1 Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread drew near, which is called the Passover. (Mt 26:2; Mr 14:1; Joh 6:4) 2 And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to put him to death, for they feared the people. (Mt 21:46; Joh 11:53) 3 Then Satan entered into Judas called Iscariot, who was of the number of the twelve. (Mt 26:14; Mt 27:3; Mr 14:10; Lu 6:16; Joh 6:71; Joh 12:4; Joh 13:2; Joh 13:27; Joh 13:30; Ac 1:16; Ac 5:3) 4 He went away and conferred with the chief priests and officers how he might betray him to them. (Ac 4:1; Ac 5:24; Ac 5:26) 5 And they were glad, and agreed to give him money. 6 So he consented and sought an opportunity to betray him to them in the absence of a crowd. (Mt 20:18) 7 Then came the day of Unleavened Bread, on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. (Ex 12:18; Mt 26:17; Mr 14:12; 1Co 5:7) 8 So Jesus[1] sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat it.” 9 They said to him, “Where will you have us prepare it?” 10 He said to them, “Behold, when you have entered the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him into the house that he enters 11 and tell the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ (Lu 2:7; Joh 11:28) 12 And he will show you a large upper room furnished; prepare it there.” (Ac 1:13) 13 And they went and found it just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover. (Lu 19:32) 14 And when the hour came, he reclined at table, and the apostles with him. (Mt 26:20; Mr 14:17) 15 And he said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. 16 For I tell you I will not eat it[2] until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” (Lu 14:15; Lu 22:30; Re 19:9) 17 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he said, “Take this, and divide it among yourselves. (Mt 15:36) 18 For I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” (Mt 26:29; Mr 14:25; Lu 22:16) 19 And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. (Ps 41:9; Mt 26:21; Mr 14:18; Joh 13:18; Joh 13:21) 22 For the Son of Man goes as it has been determined, but woe to that man by whom he is betrayed!” (Ac 2:23) 23 And they began to question one another, which of them it could be who was going to do this. 24 A dispute also arose among them, as to which of them was to be regarded as the greatest. (Mr 9:34; Lu 9:46) 25 And he said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those in authority over them are called benefactors. (Mt 18:1; Mt 20:25; Mr 10:42; 1Pe 5:3) 26 But not so with you. Rather, let the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves. (Mt 23:11; Lu 9:48; Lu 22:25) 27 For who is the greater, one who reclines at table or one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at table? But I am among you as the one who serves. (Mt 20:28; Lu 12:37) 28 “You are those who have stayed with me in my trials, (Heb 2:18; Heb 4:15) 29 and I assign to you, as my Father assigned to me, a kingdom, (Mt 25:34; Mt 28:18; Joh 17:18; Ac 14:22; 2Ti 2:12; Re 1:6) 30 that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.” (Ps 51:13; Joh 17:9; Joh 17:11; Joh 17:15; Joh 21:15) 33 Peter[5] said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death.” (Joh 21:19; Ac 12:4) 34 Jesus[6] said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow this day, until you deny three times that you know me.” (Mt 26:33; Mr 14:29; Joh 13:37) 35 And he said to them, “When I sent you out with no moneybag or knapsack or sandals, did you lack anything?” They said, “Nothing.” (Mt 10:9; Mr 6:8; Lu 9:3; Lu 10:4) 36 He said to them, “But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack. And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one. 37 For I tell you that this Scripture must be fulfilled in me: ‘And he was numbered with the transgressors.’ For what is written about me has its fulfillment.” (Isa 53:12; Mt 1:22; Lu 13:33; Joh 17:4; Joh 19:30; Ac 1:16) 38 And they said, “Look, Lord, here are two swords.” And he said to them, “It is enough.” (De 3:26; Mr 14:41; Lu 22:49) 39 And he came out and went, as was his custom, to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed him. (Mt 21:1; Mt 26:30; Mr 14:26; Lu 21:37; Joh 18:1; Joh 18:2) 40 And when he came to the place, he said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.” (Mt 6:13; Mt 26:36; Mr 14:32; Joh 18:2; 1Pe 4:7) 41 And he withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed, (Ac 7:60) 42 saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” (Mt 6:10; Mt 20:22; Heb 5:7) 43 And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. (Mt 4:11; Heb 1:14) 44 And being in agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.[7] (Lu 22:42) 45 And when he rose from prayer, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping for sorrow, 46 and he said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation.” (Lu 22:40) 47 While he was still speaking, there came a crowd, and the man called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He drew near to Jesus to kiss him, (Mt 26:47; Mr 14:43; Lu 22:3; Joh 18:3) 48 but Jesus said to him, “Judas, would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?” 49 And when those who were around him saw what would follow, they said, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?” (Lu 22:38) 50 And one of them struck the servant[8] of the high priest and cut off his right ear. 51 But Jesus said, “No more of this!” And he touched his ear and healed him. 52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests and officers of the temple and elders, who had come out against him, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs? (Lu 22:4) 53 When I was with you day after day in the temple, you did not lay hands on me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness.” (Mr 14:35; Mr 14:41; Lu 2:46; Joh 8:2; Joh 12:27; Joh 16:4; Joh 18:20; Ac 26:18; Eph 6:12) 54 Then they seized him and led him away, bringing him into the high priest’s house, and Peter was following at a distance. (Mt 26:57; Mt 26:58; Mr 14:53; Mr 14:54; Joh 18:15) 55 And when they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat down among them. (Mt 26:3; Mt 26:69; Mr 14:66; Joh 18:16; Joh 18:25) 56 Then a servant girl, seeing him as he sat in the light and looking closely at him, said, “This man also was with him.” 57 But he denied it, saying, “Woman, I do not know him.” 58 And a little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not.” 59 And after an interval of about an hour still another insisted, saying, “Certainly this man also was with him, for he too is a Galilean.” (Ac 12:15) 60 But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are talking about.” And immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed. 61 And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the saying of the Lord, how he had said to him, “Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.” (Mr 10:21; Lu 22:34; Ac 3:13) 62 And he went out and wept bitterly. 63 Now the men who were holding Jesus in custody were mocking him as they beat him. (Mt 26:67; Mr 14:65; Joh 18:22) 64 They also blindfolded him and kept asking him, “Prophesy! Who is it that struck you?” (Lu 7:39; Lu 22:63) 65 And they said many other things against him, blaspheming him. (Mt 27:39) 66 When day came, the assembly of the elders of the people gathered together, both chief priests and scribes. And they led him away to their council, and they said, (Mt 5:22; Mt 26:63; Mt 27:1; Mr 14:61; Mr 15:1; Lu 22:67; Joh 18:19; Joh 18:28; Ac 22:5) 67 “If you are the Christ, tell us.” But he said to them, “If I tell you, you will not believe, (Mt 1:17; Joh 10:24) 68 and if I ask you, you will not answer. 69 But from now on the Son of Man shall be seated at the right hand of the power of God.” (Mr 16:19; Ac 7:56; Heb 1:3) 70 So they all said, “Are you the Son of God, then?” And he said to them, “You say that I am.” (Mt 14:33; Mt 26:25; Mt 27:11; Mr 15:2; Lu 23:3) 71 Then they said, “What further testimony do we need? We have heard it ourselves from his own lips.”

1 Es war kurz vor dem Fest der Ungesäuerten Brote, dem Passafest. (Ex 12:1; Ex 12:15; Mt 26:1; Mr 14:1; Joh 11:45) 2 Die führenden Priester und die Gesetzeslehrer suchten nach einer Möglichkeit, Jesus zu beseitigen, aber so, dass es kein Aufsehen erregte; denn sie hatten Angst vor dem Volk. (Mr 11:18; Lu 19:47) 3 Da fuhr der Satan in Judas, der auch Iskariot genannt wird. Judas war einer aus dem Kreis der Zwölf. (Mt 26:14; Mr 14:10; Lu 4:13; Lu 10:18; Lu 22:31; Lu 22:53; Joh 12:4) 4 Er ging zu den führenden Priestern und den Hauptleuten der Tempelwache und besprach mit ihnen, wie er ihnen Jesus in die Hände spielen könnte. 5 Sie freuten sich und boten ihm eine Geldsumme an. 6 Judas war einverstanden. Er suchte von da an eine günstige Gelegenheit, Jesus zu verraten, ohne dass das Volk etwas merkte. 7 Es kam nun der Tag, von dem an ungesäuertes Brot gegessen wurde und an dem die Passalämmer geschlachtet werden mussten. (Ex 12:6; Mt 26:17; Mr 14:12) 8 Jesus gab Petrus und Johannes den Auftrag: »Geht und bereitet das Passamahl für uns vor!« 9 »Wo willst du es vorbereitet haben?«, fragten sie. 10 Er sagte: »Hört zu! Wenn ihr in die Stadt kommt, werdet ihr einen Mann treffen, der einen Wasserkrug trägt. Folgt ihm in das Haus, in das er geht, 11 und sagt zum Hausherrn dort: ›Unser Lehrer lässt dich fragen: Welchen Raum kannst du zur Verfügung stellen, dass ich dort mit meinen Jüngern das Passamahl feiere?‹ 12 Er wird euch ein großes Zimmer im Obergeschoss zeigen, das mit Polstern ausgestattet ist. Dort bereitet alles vor.« 13 Die beiden gingen und fanden alles so, wie Jesus es ihnen gesagt hatte, und sie bereiteten das Passamahl vor. 14 Als die Stunde gekommen war, setzte sich Jesus zu Tisch und die Apostel mit ihm. (Mt 26:20; Mr 14:17; Lu 6:13; 1Co 11:23) 15 Er sagte: »Ich habe mich sehr danach gesehnt, dieses Passamahl mit euch zu feiern, bevor ich leiden muss. 16 Denn ich sage euch: Ich werde es erst wieder feiern, wenn das, worauf jedes Passamahl hinweist, in der neuen Welt Gottes[1] zur Erfüllung gekommen ist.« 17 Dann nahm er den Becher mit Wein, sprach darüber das Dankgebet und sagte: »Nehmt diesen Becher und teilt ihn unter euch! 18 Denn ich sage euch: Ich werde erst wieder Wein trinken, wenn die neue Welt Gottes da ist.« 19 Dann nahm Jesus ein Brot, sprach darüber das Dankgebet, brach es in Stücke und gab es ihnen mit den Worten: »Das ist mein Leib, der für euch geopfert wird. Tut das immer wieder, damit unter euch gegenwärtig ist, was ich für euch getan habe!«[2] 20 Ebenso nahm er nach dem Essen den Becher mit Wein und sagte: »Dieser Becher ist Gottes neuer Bund, der in Kraft gesetzt wird durch mein Blut, das für euch vergossen wird. (Ex 24:6; Jer 31:31; Ro 11:27; 1Co 11:25; 2Co 3:6; Ga 4:24; Heb 8:6) 21 Aber ihr müsst wissen: Der Verräter sitzt hier mit mir am gleichen Tisch. (Joh 13:2; Joh 13:21) 22 Der Menschensohn muss zwar den Weg gehen, der ihm bestimmt ist; aber wehe dem Menschen, der ihn verrät.« 23 Da fingen sie an, einander zu fragen, wer von ihnen es wohl sei, der so etwas tun würde. 24 Es kam unter ihnen auch ein Streit darüber auf, wer von ihnen als der Größte zu gelten habe. (Mt 19:28; Mt 20:25; Mr 10:42; Lu 9:46) 25 Da sagte Jesus zu ihnen: »Die Könige üben Macht über ihre Völker aus, und die Tyrannen lassen sich sogar noch ›Wohltäter des Volkes‹ nennen. 26 Bei euch muss es anders sein! Der Größte unter euch muss wie der Geringste werden und der Führende wie einer, der dient. (Mt 23:11) 27 Wer ist denn größer: der am Tisch sitzt oder der bedient? Natürlich der am Tisch! Aber ich bin unter euch wie der Diener. (Joh 13:4; Joh 13:12) 28 Ihr habt mit mir durchgehalten in allen Prüfungen, die ich zu bestehen hatte. 29 Dafür werde ich euch an der Herrschaft beteiligen, die mein Vater mir übertragen hat. (Lu 12:32) 30 Wenn ich meine Herrschaft angetreten habe, werdet ihr an meinem Tisch essen und trinken und über die zwölf Stämme Israels herrschen.« (Mt 19:28) 31 »Simon, Simon! Pass gut auf! Gott hat dem Satan erlaubt, euch auf die Probe zu stellen und die Spreu vom Weizen zu scheiden. (Job 1:6; Job 2:1; Lu 22:3; Joh 13:36) 32 Aber ich habe für dich gebetet, dass dein Glaube an mich nicht aufhört. Wenn du dann wieder zu mir zurückgefunden hast, musst du deine Brüder und Schwestern[3] im Glauben an mich stärken!« (Mt 16:18; Lu 22:62; Lu 24:34) 33 Petrus antwortete: »Herr, ich bin bereit, mit dir ins Gefängnis zu gehen, ja mit dir zu sterben!« (Mr 14:30) 34 Jesus antwortete: »Ich sage dir, Petrus, noch ehe heute der Hahn kräht, wirst du mich dreimal verleugnen und behaupten, dass du mich nicht kennst.« (Lu 22:61) 35 Dann fragte Jesus die Apostel: »Als ich euch ohne Geldbeutel, Vorratstasche und Schuhe auf den Weg schickte, habt ihr da an irgendetwas Mangel gehabt?« »Nein, an nichts«, sagten sie. (Lu 9:3; Lu 10:4) 36 Jesus erwiderte: »Von jetzt ab gilt etwas anderes: Wer einen Geldbeutel hat, soll ihn mitnehmen, und wer eine Vorratstasche hat, ebenso! Wer nichts hat als sein Obergewand, soll es verkaufen und sich ein Schwert dafür beschaffen. (Mt 10:34) 37 Denn ich sage euch, es muss an mir in Erfüllung gehen, was in den Heiligen Schriften steht: ›Er wurde unter die Verbrecher gezählt.‹ Mit mir geht es jetzt zu Ende.« (Isa 53:12) 38 Die Apostel sagten: »Herr, da haben wir zwei Schwerter!« Jesus antwortete: »Ihr versteht mich nicht.«[4] 39 Jesus ging wie gewohnt zum Ölberg und seine Jünger folgten ihm. (Mt 26:30; Mt 26:36; Mr 14:32; Lu 5:16; Lu 21:37; Joh 18:1) 40 Als er dort war, sagte er zu ihnen: »Betet darum, dass ihr in der kommenden Prüfung nicht versagt.« 41 Dann ging er allein weiter. Einen Steinwurf von ihnen entfernt kniete er nieder und betete: 42 »Vater, wenn es dein Wille ist, dann erspare es mir, diesen Kelch trinken zu müssen.[5] Aber dein Wille soll geschehen, nicht der meine!« (Mt 6:10; Mr 10:38; Joh 12:27) 43 Da erschien ihm ein Engel vom Himmel und gab ihm Kraft. 44 In seiner Todesangst betete Jesus noch angespannter und sein Schweiß tropfte wie Blut auf den Boden.[6] 45 Als er sich vom Gebet erhob und wieder zu den Jüngern kam, schliefen sie; so erschöpft waren sie vor Kummer. 46 »Wie könnt ihr schlafen?«, sagte er zu ihnen. »Steht auf und betet, damit ihr in der kommenden Prüfung nicht versagt!« 47 Noch während Jesus das sagte, kam ein Trupp von Männern, voran Judas, einer von den Zwölf. Er ging auf Jesus zu und wollte ihm den Begrüßungskuss geben. (Mt 26:47; Mr 14:43; Joh 18:3) 48 Aber Jesus sagte zu ihm: »Judas, mit einem Kuss willst du den Menschensohn verraten?« 49 Da merkten auch die Jünger, was bevorstand, und fragten: »Herr, sollen wir mit dem Schwert zuschlagen?« 50 Und einer von ihnen hieb auf den Bevollmächtigten des Obersten Priesters ein und schlug ihm das rechte Ohr ab. 51 Aber Jesus sagte: »Halt! Hört auf!« Er berührte das Ohr und heilte den Mann. 52 Dann wandte er sich an die führenden Priester, die Hauptleute der Tempelwache und die Ratsältesten, die ihn festnehmen wollten: »Warum rückt ihr hier mit Schwertern und Knüppeln an; bin ich denn ein Verbrecher? 53 Täglich war ich bei euch im Tempel und ihr seid nicht gegen mich vorgegangen. Aber jetzt ist eure Stunde gekommen. Jetzt haben die dunklen Mächte Gewalt über mich.« (Lu 19:47; Lu 22:3) 54 Sie nahmen Jesus fest, führten ihn ab und brachten ihn in das Haus des Obersten Priesters. Petrus folgte ihnen in weitem Abstand. (Mt 26:57; Mt 26:69; Mr 14:53; Mr 14:66; Joh 18:12; Joh 18:25) 55 Im Hof war ein Feuer angezündet. Viele saßen darum herum, und Petrus setzte sich mitten unter sie. 56 Eine Dienerin bemerkte ihn im Schein des Feuers, sah ihn genauer an und sagte: »Der da war auch mit ihm zusammen!« 57 Aber Petrus stritt es ab: »Frau, ich kenne ihn überhaupt nicht!« 58 Bald darauf wurde ein Mann auf ihn aufmerksam und sagte: »Du gehörst doch auch zu denen!« Aber Petrus widersprach: »Mensch, ich habe nichts mit ihnen zu tun!« 59 Etwa eine Stunde später bestand ein anderer darauf und sagte: »Kein Zweifel, der war auch mit ihm zusammen, er ist doch auch aus Galiläa.« 60 Aber Petrus stritt es ab: »Mensch, ich weiß überhaupt nicht, wovon du sprichst!« Und sofort, während er noch redete, krähte ein Hahn. 61 Der Herr drehte sich um und sah Petrus an. Da fiel Petrus ein, was er zu ihm gesagt hatte: »Bevor heute der Hahn kräht, wirst du mich dreimal verleugnen und behaupten, dass du mich nicht kennst.« (Mr 14:30; Lu 22:34) 62 Und er ging hinaus und begann, bitter zu weinen. 63 Die Männer, die Jesus bewachten, trieben ihren Spott mit ihm. (Mt 26:67; Mr 14:65) 64 Sie warfen ihm ein Tuch über den Kopf, sodass er nichts sehen konnte; dann schlugen sie ihn und riefen: »Du bist doch ein Prophet! Sag uns: Wer war es, der dich gerade schlug?« (Lu 7:16) 65 Und noch viele andere Schmähungen musste er sich gefallen lassen. 66 Als es Tag wurde, versammelten sich die Ältesten des Volkes, dazu die führenden Priester und die Gesetzeslehrer, und ließen Jesus vor ihre Ratsversammlung bringen. (Mt 26:57; Mt 26:63; Mt 27:1; Mr 14:53; Mr 14:61; Mr 15:1; Joh 18:19) 67 Sie forderten ihn auf: »Wenn du Christus bist, der versprochene Retter, dann sag es uns!« Jesus antwortete: »Wenn ich es euch sage, werdet ihr mir nicht glauben, (Jer 38:15; Mr 8:29; Lu 9:20; Joh 4:25; Ac 5:42) 68 und wenn ich euch etwas frage, werdet ihr keine Antwort geben. 69 Aber von nun an wird der Menschensohn an der rechten Seite des allmächtigen Gottes sitzen!« (Mr 12:36) 70 Da riefen sie alle: »Dann bist du also der Sohn Gottes?« Er antwortete: »Ihr sagt es: Ich bin’s.« (Mt 14:33; Lu 1:32; Lu 1:35) 71 Darauf erklärten sie: »Was brauchen wir noch eine Zeugenaussage? Wir haben es selbst aus seinem Mund gehört!«
