1 In those days, when again a great crowd had gathered, and they had nothing to eat, he called his disciples to him and said to them, (Mt 15:32; Mr 6:32) 2 “I have compassion on the crowd, because they have been with me now three days and have nothing to eat. (Mt 9:36) 3 And if I send them away hungry to their homes, they will faint on the way. And some of them have come from far away.” 4 And his disciples answered him, “How can one feed these people with bread here in this desolate place?” 5 And he asked them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, “Seven.” (Mt 16:10) 6 And he directed the crowd to sit down on the ground. And he took the seven loaves, and having given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to set before the people; and they set them before the crowd. (Mt 26:27; Mr 14:23; Lu 22:17; Lu 22:19; Joh 6:11; Joh 6:23; Ac 27:35; Ro 14:6; 1Co 10:30; 1Co 11:24; 1Co 14:16; 1Ti 4:3) 7 And they had a few small fish. And having blessed them, he said that these also should be set before them. (Mt 14:19) 8 And they ate and were satisfied. And they took up the broken pieces left over, seven baskets full. (2Ki 4:42; Mr 8:5) 9 And there were about four thousand people. And he sent them away. 10 And immediately he got into the boat with his disciples and went to the district of Dalmanutha.[1] (Mt 15:39; Mr 3:9) 11 The Pharisees came and began to argue with him, seeking from him a sign from heaven to test him. (Mt 12:38; Mt 16:1; Lu 11:16; Lu 21:11; Joh 8:6; 1Co 1:22) 12 And he sighed deeply in his spirit and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Truly, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.” (Mr 7:34; Joh 11:33) 13 And he left them, got into the boat again, and went to the other side. (Mt 4:13; Mt 21:17) 14 Now they had forgotten to bring bread, and they had only one loaf with them in the boat. 15 And he cautioned them, saying, “Watch out; beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.”[2] (Mr 3:6; Mr 12:13; Lu 12:1; 1Co 5:6; Ga 5:9) 16 And they began discussing with one another the fact that they had no bread. 17 And Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why are you discussing the fact that you have no bread? Do you not yet perceive or understand? Are your hearts hardened? (Mt 26:10; Mr 6:52; Mr 7:18) 18 Having eyes do you not see, and having ears do you not hear? And do you not remember? (Isa 42:18; Isa 43:8; Jer 5:21; Eze 12:2; Mt 13:13) 19 When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” They said to him, “Twelve.” (Mr 6:41; Mr 6:44) 20 “And the seven for the four thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” And they said to him, “Seven.” (Mr 8:6; Mr 8:9) 21 And he said to them, “Do you not yet understand?” 22 And they came to Bethsaida. And some people brought to him a blind man and begged him to touch him. (Mr 6:45) 23 And he took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village, and when he had spit on his eyes and laid his hands on him, he asked him, “Do you see anything?” (Mr 5:23; Mr 7:33; Joh 9:6) 24 And he looked up and said, “I see people, but they look like trees, walking.” 25 Then Jesus[3] laid his hands on his eyes again; and he opened his eyes, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. 26 And he sent him to his home, saying, “Do not even enter the village.” (Mt 8:4; Mr 8:23) 27 And Jesus went on with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And on the way he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” (Mt 16:13; Lu 9:18) 28 And they told him, “John the Baptist; and others say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.” (Mt 14:2; Mt 17:10; Mr 6:14; Mr 9:11; Lu 9:7; Lu 9:8; Joh 1:21) 29 And he asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered him, “You are the Christ.” (Mt 1:17; Mr 14:61; Joh 11:27) 30 And he strictly charged them to tell no one about him. (Mt 12:16; Mt 16:20; Lu 9:21) 31 And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again. (Mt 12:40; Mt 16:21; Mt 17:12; Mt 17:22; Mt 27:63; Mr 9:30; Mr 10:33; Mr 10:34; Mr 12:10; Lu 9:22; Lu 13:33; Lu 17:25; Lu 24:7; Joh 2:19; 1Pe 2:4) 32 And he said this plainly. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. (Joh 16:25) 33 But turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.” (Mt 4:10; Ro 8:5; Php 2:5; Php 3:19; Col 3:2) 34 And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. (Mt 10:38; 2Ti 2:12) 35 For whoever would save his life[4] will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it. (Mr 8:34; Mr 10:29; 1Co 9:23; 2Ti 1:8; Phm 1:13) 36 For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? (Lu 12:20) 37 For what can a man give in return for his soul? 1 V těch dnech když opět velmi veliký zástup byl s ním, a neměli, co by jedli, svolav Ježíš učedlníky své, řekl jim: 2 Lítost mám nad zástupy; nebo již tři dni trvají se mnou a nemají, co by jedli. 3 A rozpustím-li je lačné do domů jejich, zhynou na cestě; nebo někteří z nich zdaleka přišli. 4 Odpověděli mu učedlníci jeho: I odkud bude moci kdo tyto nakrmiti chleby zde na poušti? 5 I otázal se jich: Kolik chlebů máte? A oni řekli: Sedm. 6 I kázal zástupu posaditi se na zemi. A vzav sedm chlebů, díky učiniv, lámal a dával učedlníkům svým, aby předkládali. I kladli před zástup. 7 A měli také rybiček maličko. Jichž požehnav, kázal i ty před ně klásti. 8 I jedli a nasyceni jsou; a sebrali, což pozůstalo drobtů, sedm košů. 9 Těch pak, kteříž jedli, bylo okolo čtyř tisíců. I rozpustil je. 10 Potom hned vstoupiv na lodí s učedlníky svými, přeplavil se do krajin Dalmanutských. 11 I vyšli farizeové a počali se s ním hádati, hledajíce od něho znamení s nebe, pokoušejíce ho. 12 A on vzdech duchem svým, dí: Co pokolení toto znamení hledá? Amen pravím vám: Nebude dáno znamení pokolení tomuto. 13 A opustiv je, vstoupil zase na lodí, i plavil se přes moře. 14 I zapomenuli s sebou vzíti chlebů, a neměli než jeden chléb s sebou na lodí. 15 Tedy přikazoval jim, řka: Vizte a pilně se šetřte kvasu farizejského a kvasu Herodesova. 16 I přemyšlovali, řkouce jeden k druhému: Chleba nemáme. 17 A znaje to Ježíš, řekl jim: Co přemyšlujete o tom, že chleba nemáte? Ještě neznáte, ani rozumíte? Ještě máte oslepené srdce vaše? 18 Oči majíce, nevidíte? A uši majíce, neslyšíte? A nepomníte, 19 Že jsem pět chlebů lámal mezi pět tisíců? A kolik jste plných košů drobtů sebrali? Řekli jemu: Dvanácte. 20 A když také sedm chlebů lámal jsem mezi čtyři tisíce, kolik jste plných košů drobtů vzali? I řkou jemu: Sedm. 21 I řekl jim: Kterakž tedy ještě nerozumíte? 22 I přišel do Betsaidy, a přivedli k němu slepého, prosíce ho, aby se ho dotekl. 23 I ujav slepého za ruku, vyvedl jej ven z městečka, a plinuv na oči jeho a vloživ na něj ruce, otázal se ho, viděl-li by co. 24 A on pohleděv, řekl: Znamenám lidi; nebo vidím, že chodí jako stromové. 25 Potom opět vložil ruce na oči jeho, a kázal mu hleděti. I uzdraven jest, takže i zdaleka jasně viděl všecky. 26 I odeslal jej do domu jeho, řka: Aniž do toho městečka choď, aniž komu z městečka co o tom prav. 27 Tedy vyšel Ježíš a učedlníci jeho do městeček Cesaree Filipovy. A na cestě tázal se učedlníků svých, řka jim: Kým mne praví býti lidé? 28 Kteřížto odpověděli: Janem Křtitelem, a jiní Eliášem, jiní pak jedním z proroků. 29 Tedy on řekl jim: Vy pak kým mne býti pravíte? Odpověděv Petr, řekl jemu: Ty jsi Kristus. 30 I přikázal jim, aby toho o něm žádnému nepravili. 31 I počal učiti je, že Syn člověka musí mnoho trpěti, a potupen býti od starších a předních kněží a zákoníků, a zabit býti, a ve třech dnech z mrtvých vstáti. 32 Zjevně to slovo mluvil. A chytiv jej Petr, počal mu domlouvati. 33 Kterýžto obrátiv se a pohleděv na učedlníky své, přimluvil Petrovi, řka: Jdiž za mnou, satane; nebo nechápáš, co jest Božího, ale co lidského. 34 A svolav zástup s učedlníky svými, řekl jim: Chce-li kdo za mnou přijíti, zapři sebe sám, a vezmi kříž svůj, a následujž mne. 35 Nebo chtěl-li by kdo duši svou zachovati, ztratíť ji; pakli by kdo ztratil duši svou pro mne a pro evangelium, tenť ji zachová. 36 Nebo co prospěje člověku, by všecken svět získal, a své duši škodu učinil? 37 Aneb jakou dá člověk odměnu za duši svou? 38 Nebo kdož by se koli za mne styděl a za má slova v tomto pokolení cizoložném a hříšném, i Syn člověka styděti se bude za něj, když přijde v slávě Otce svého s anděly svatými.
