1Und der König David war alt, hochbetagt. Man bedeckte ihn mit Kleidern, aber es wurde ihm nicht warm. Und auch war er sehr schön von Gestalt; und seine Mutter[2] hatte ihn nach Absalom geboren. (1Sam 3,13; 2Sam 14,25; 1Chr 3,2; Spr 29,15)7Und er hatte seine Verabredungen mit Joab, dem Sohn der Zeruja, ⟨getroffen⟩ und mit dem Priester Abjatar; und sie standen mit ihrer Hilfe hinter Adonija[3]. (1Kön 2,22; 1Kön 2,26; 1Chr 27,34)8Aber der Priester Zadok und Benaja, der Sohn Jojadas, und der Prophet Nathan und Schimi und Reï und die Helden, die David hatte, waren nicht mit Adonija. (2Sam 7,2; 2Sam 12,25; 2Sam 20,23; 2Sam 23,8; 1Kön 4,18)9Und Adonija schlachtete Schafe und Rinder und Mastvieh bei dem Stein Sohelet[4], der neben En-Rogel[5] ist; und er lud alle seine Brüder, die Söhne des Königs, ein und alle Männer von Juda, die im Dienst des Königs standen[6]. Salomos Salbung zum König
11Da sagte Nathan zu Batseba, der Mutter Salomos: Hast du nicht gehört, dass Adonija, der Sohn der Haggit, König geworden ist? Und unser Herr David hat nichts ⟨davon⟩ erkannt. (2Sam 15,10; 1Kön 1,10)12Und nun komm, ich will dir einen Rat geben, und ⟨so⟩ rette dein Leben und das Leben deines Sohnes Salomo! (Spr 27,9)13Auf, geh zum König David hinein und sage zu ihm: »Hast nicht du selbst, mein Herr König, deiner Magd geschworen und gesagt: Dein Sohn Salomo soll nach mir König sein, und er soll es sein, der auf meinem Thron sitzen wird? Warum aber ist Adonija König geworden?« (1Kön 2,12; 1Chr 28,5; 1Chr 29,23)14Siehe, während du dort noch mit dem König redest, werde ich nach dir hineinkommen und deine Worte bekräftigen[7].15Da ging Batseba zum König hinein in das Gemach; der König aber war sehr alt, und Abischag, die Schunemiterin, bediente den König. (1Kön 1,1)16Und Batseba verneigte sich und fiel vor dem König nieder. Da sagte der König: Was hast du? (1Sam 20,41; 1Petr 2,17)17Und sie sagte zu ihm: Mein Herr, du selbst hast ja deiner Magd bei dem HERRN, deinem Gott, geschworen: »Dein Sohn Salomo soll nach mir König sein, und er soll es sein, der auf meinem Thron sitzen wird.«18Und nun siehe, Adonija ist König geworden, und du[8], mein Herr und König, hast nichts ⟨davon⟩ erkannt.19Und er hat Stiere und Mastvieh und Schafe in Menge geschlachtet und hat alle Söhne des Königs und den Priester Abjatar und den Heerobersten Joab eingeladen; aber deinen Knecht Salomo hat er nicht eingeladen.20Auf dich aber, mein Herr und König, auf dich sind die Augen von ganz Israel ⟨gerichtet⟩, dass du ihnen bekannt gibst, wer auf dem Thron meines Herrn, des Königs, nach ihm sitzen soll.21Und es wird geschehen, wenn mein Herr, der König, bei seinen Vätern liegt, dass ich und mein Sohn Salomo als Sünder dastehen. (Ri 9,5; 1Kön 2,10; 2Chr 22,10)22Und siehe, während sie noch mit dem König redete, kam der Prophet Nathan herein.23Und man meldete dem König: Der Prophet Nathan ist da! Und er kam herein vor den König und warf sich vor dem König auf sein Angesicht zur Erde nieder. (1Sam 20,41; 1Petr 2,17)24Und Nathan sagte: Mein Herr und König, du hast ⟨wohl⟩ selbst angeordnet: Adonija soll nach mir König sein, und er soll es sein, der auf meinem Thron sitzen wird!25Denn er ist heute hinabgegangen, hat Stiere und Mastvieh und Schafe in Menge geschlachtet und hat alle Söhne des Königs und die Heerobersten und den Priester Abjatar eingeladen; und siehe, sie essen und trinken vor ihm und sagen: Es lebe der König Adonija! (1Sam 10,24; 2Sam 16,16; 1Kön 1,34; 1Kön 2,15; 2Kön 9,13; 2Kön 11,12)26Mich selbst aber, deinen Knecht, und den Priester Zadok und Benaja, den Sohn Jojadas, und deinen Knecht Salomo hat er nicht eingeladen. Und sie kam herein vor den König und trat vor den König.29Und der König schwor und sprach: So wahr der HERR lebt, der meine Seele aus jeder Not gerettet hat, (1Mo 48,16)30ja, wie ich dir ⟨einst⟩ bei dem HERRN, dem Gott Israels geschworen habe, indem ich sprach: Gewiss, dein Sohn Salomo soll nach mir König sein, und er soll der sein, der an meiner Stelle auf meinem Thron sitzen wird, ja, so werde ich am heutigen Tag tun. Und sie kamen herein vor den König.33Und der König sprach zu ihnen: Nehmt die Diener eures Herrn mit euch und lasst meinen Sohn Salomo auf meiner eigenen Mauleselin reiten und führt ihn zum Gihon hinab! (2Chr 33,14; Est 6,8)34Und der Priester Zadok und der Prophet Nathan sollen ihn dort zum König über Israel salben. Und ihr sollt ins Horn stoßen und sagen: Es lebe der König Salomo! Er ist es, der an meiner Stelle König sein soll. Und ihn habe ich dazu bestimmt, Fürst über Israel und über Juda zu sein. (1Kön 2,12; 1Chr 23,1; 1Chr 28,5; 1Chr 29,23)36Da antwortete Benaja, der Sohn Jojadas, dem König und sagte: Amen! So spreche[10] der HERR, der Gott meines Herrn, des Königs! (Jer 28,6; Offb 5,14)37So wie der HERR mit meinem Herrn, dem König, gewesen ist, so möge er mit Salomo sein und seinen Thron ⟨noch⟩ größer machen als den Thron meines Herrn, des Königs David! (Jos 1,17; 1Chr 29,25)38So zogen der Priester Zadok und der Prophet Nathan und Benaja, der Sohn Jojadas, und die Kreter und Pleter[11] hinab und ließen Salomo auf der Mauleselin des Königs David reiten und führten ihn zum Gihon. (2Sam 8,18; 1Kön 2,35; Sach 9,9; Offb 19,11)39Und der Priester Zadok holte das Ölhorn aus dem Zelt und salbte Salomo; und sie stießen ins Horn, und alles Volk sprach: Es lebe der König Salomo! Adonijas Unterwerfung
41Und Adonija hörte es und alle die Geladenen, die bei ihm waren, als sie eben aufgehört hatten zu essen. Und Joab hörte den Schall des Horns und sagte: Weshalb hört man die Stadt so lärmen?42Während er noch redete, siehe, da kam Jonatan, der Sohn des Priesters Abjatar. Und Adonija sagte: Komm, denn du bist ein zuverlässiger Mann und wirst gute Botschaft bringen! (2Sam 15,27; 2Sam 18,27)43Da antwortete Jonatan und sagte zu Adonija: Nein! Unser Herr, der König David, hat Salomo zum König gemacht.44Und der König hat den Priester Zadok und den Propheten Nathan und Benaja, den Sohn Jojadas, und die Kreter und Pleter mit ihm gesandt, und sie haben ihn auf der Mauleselin des Königs reiten lassen.45Und der Priester Zadok und der Prophet Nathan haben ihn am Gihon zum König gesalbt. Dann sind sie von dort mit Freuden⟨geschrei⟩ heraufgezogen, und die Stadt ist in Bewegung. Das ist das Geschrei, das ihr gehört habt.46Und außerdem: Salomo hat sich auf den Königsthron[12] gesetzt. (1Chr 29,23)47Und außerdem sind die Diener des Königs hineingegangen, um unserem Herrn, dem König David, Segenswünsche zu überbringen[13], indem sie sagten: Dein Gott mache den Namen Salomos ⟨noch⟩ herrlicher als deinen Namen und mache seinen Thron ⟨noch⟩ größer als deinen Thron! Und der König hat sich auf dem Lager anbetend geneigt. (1Mo 47,31)48Und außerdem hat der König so gesprochen: Gepriesen sei der HERR, der Gott Israels, der heute einen ⟨von meinen Söhnen⟩ eingesetzt hat, der auf meinem Thron sitzt – und meine Augen dürfen ⟨es noch⟩ sehen! (1Kön 2,4; 1Kön 3,6; 1Kön 8,20; Ps 41,14; Ps 132,11; Lk 1,68; Lk 2,30)49Da erschraken all die Geladenen, die bei Adonija waren, und standen auf und gingen weg, jeder seines Weges. (Spr 24,21)50Und Adonija fürchtete sich vor Salomo; und er machte sich auf, ging hin und ergriff die Hörner des Altars. (2Mo 27,2; 1Kön 2,28)51Das wurde Salomo berichtet, indem man sagte: Siehe, Adonija fürchtet den König Salomo, und siehe, er hält die Hörner des Altars fest und sagt: Der König Salomo schwöre mir heute, dass er seinen Knecht nicht mit dem Schwert töten wird!52Und Salomo sagte: Wenn er sich als ein zuverlässiger Mann erweist, soll von seinem Haar keines auf die Erde fallen. Wenn aber Böses an ihm gefunden wird, dann soll er sterben. (2Sam 14,11; 1Kön 2,24; Spr 13,6; Röm 13,4)53Und der König Salomo sandte hin, und man holte ihn vom Altar herunter; und er kam und warf sich vor dem König Salomo nieder. Und Salomo sagte zu ihm: Geh in dein Haus! (2Sam 14,33)
1When King David was very old, he could not keep warm even when they put covers over him.2So his attendants said to him, ‘Let us look for a young virgin to serve the king and take care of him. She can lie beside him so that our lord the king may keep warm.’3Then they searched throughout Israel for a beautiful young woman and found Abishag, a Shunammite, and brought her to the king.4The woman was very beautiful; she took care of the king and waited on him, but the king had no sexual relations with her.5Now Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, put himself forward and said, ‘I will be king.’ So he got chariots and horses[1] ready, with fifty men to run ahead of him.6(His father had never rebuked him by asking, ‘Why do you behave as you do?’ He was also very handsome and was born next after Absalom.)7Adonijah conferred with Joab son of Zeruiah and with Abiathar the priest, and they gave him their support.8But Zadok the priest, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei and Rei and David’s special guard did not join Adonijah.9Adonijah then sacrificed sheep, cattle and fattened calves at the Stone of Zoheleth near En Rogel. He invited all his brothers, the king’s sons, and all the royal officials of Judah,10but he did not invite Nathan the prophet or Benaiah or the special guard or his brother Solomon.11Then Nathan asked Bathsheba, Solomon’s mother, ‘Have you not heard that Adonijah, the son of Haggith, has become king, and our lord David knows nothing about it?12Now then, let me advise you how you can save your own life and the life of your son Solomon.13Go in to King David and say to him, “My lord the king, did you not swear to me your servant: ‘Surely Solomon your son shall be king after me, and he will sit on my throne’? Why then has Adonijah become king?”14While you are still there talking to the king, I will come in and add my word to what you have said.’15So Bathsheba went to see the aged king in his room, where Abishag the Shunammite was attending him.16Bathsheba bowed down, prostrating herself before the king. ‘What is it you want?’ the king asked.17She said to him, ‘My lord, you yourself swore to me your servant by the Lord your God: “Solomon your son shall become king after me, and he will sit on my throne.”18But now Adonijah has become king, and you, my lord the king, do not know about it.19He has sacrificed great numbers of cattle, fattened calves, and sheep, and has invited all the king’s sons, Abiathar the priest and Joab the commander of the army, but he has not invited Solomon your servant.20My lord the king, the eyes of all Israel are on you, to learn from you who will sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.21Otherwise, as soon as my lord the king is laid to rest with his ancestors, I and my son Solomon will be treated as criminals.’22While she was still speaking with the king, Nathan the prophet arrived.23And the king was told, ‘Nathan the prophet is here.’ So he went before the king and bowed with his face to the ground.24Nathan said, ‘Have you, my lord the king, declared that Adonijah shall be king after you, and that he will sit on your throne?25Today he has gone down and sacrificed great numbers of cattle, fattened calves, and sheep. He has invited all the king’s sons, the commanders of the army and Abiathar the priest. At this very moment they are eating and drinking with him and saying, “Long live King Adonijah!”26But me your servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and your servant Solomon he did not invite.27Is this something my lord the king has done without letting his servants know who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?’
David makes Solomon king
28Then King David said, ‘Call in Bathsheba.’ So she came into the king’s presence and stood before him.29The king then took an oath: ‘As surely as the Lord lives, who has delivered me out of every trouble,30I will surely carry out this very day what I swore to you by the Lord, the God of Israel: Solomon your son shall be king after me, and he will sit on my throne in my place.’31Then Bathsheba bowed down with her face to the ground, prostrating herself before the king, and said, ‘May my lord King David live for ever!’32King David said, ‘Call in Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet and Benaiah son of Jehoiada.’ When they came before the king,33he said to them: ‘Take your lord’s servants with you and put Solomon my son on my own mule and take him down to Gihon.34There shall Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him king over Israel. Blow the trumpet and shout, “Long live King Solomon!”35Then you are to go up with him, and he is to come and sit on my throne and reign in my place. I have appointed him ruler over Israel and Judah.’36Benaiah son of Jehoiada answered the king, ‘Amen! May the Lord, the God of my lord the king, so declare it.37As the Lord was with my lord the king, so may he be with Solomon to make his throne even greater than the throne of my lord King David!’38So Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, the Kerethites and the Pelethites went down and put Solomon on King David’s mule, and they escorted him to Gihon.39Zadok the priest took the horn of oil from the sacred tent and anointed Solomon. Then they sounded the trumpet and all the people shouted, ‘Long live King Solomon!’40And all the people went up after him, playing pipes and rejoicing greatly, so that the ground shook with the sound.41Adonijah and all the guests who were with him heard it as they were finishing their feast. On hearing the sound of the trumpet, Joab asked, ‘What’s the meaning of all the noise in the city?’42Even as he was speaking, Jonathan son of Abiathar the priest arrived. Adonijah said, ‘Come in. A worthy man like you must be bringing good news.’43‘Not at all!’ Jonathan answered. ‘Our lord King David has made Solomon king.44The king has sent with him Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, the Kerethites and the Pelethites, and they have put him on the king’s mule,45and Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king at Gihon. From there they have gone up cheering, and the city resounds with it. That’s the noise you hear.46Moreover, Solomon has taken his seat on the royal throne.47Also, the royal officials have come to congratulate our lord King David, saying, “May your God make Solomon’s name more famous than yours and his throne greater than yours!” And the king bowed in worship on his bed48and said, “Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, who has allowed my eyes to see a successor on my throne today.” ’49At this, all Adonijah’s guests rose in alarm and dispersed.50But Adonijah, in fear of Solomon, went and took hold of the horns of the altar.51Then Solomon was told, ‘Adonijah is afraid of King Solomon and is clinging to the horns of the altar. He says, “Let King Solomon swear to me today that he will not put his servant to death with the sword.” ’52Solomon replied, ‘If he shows himself to be worthy, not a hair of his head will fall to the ground; but if evil is found in him, he will die.’53Then King Solomon sent men, and they brought him down from the altar. And Adonijah came and bowed down to King Solomon, and Solomon said, ‘Go to your home.’
