Anschlag der Hohen Priester und Verrat des Judas – Salbung Jesu in Betanien
1Und es geschah, als Jesus alle diese Reden beendet hatte, sprach er zu seinen Jüngern: (Mt 7,28)2Ihr wisst, dass nach zwei Tagen das Passah ist, und der Sohn des Menschen wird überliefert, um gekreuzigt zu werden. (Mt 16,21)3Dann versammelten sich die Hohen Priester[1] und die Ältesten des Volkes in dem Hof des Hohen Priesters, der Kaiphas hieß, (Lk 3,2; Joh 11,47)4und ratschlagten miteinander, um Jesus mit List zu greifen und zu töten. (Ps 31,14; Mt 12,14; Mt 27,1)5Sie sagten aber: Nicht an dem Fest, damit nicht ein Aufruhr unter dem Volk entsteht. (Mk 14,3; Lk 22,6; Joh 12,1)6Als aber Jesus in Betanien war, im Hause Simons, des Aussätzigen[2],7kam eine Frau zu ihm, die ein Alabasterfläschchen mit sehr kostbarem Salböl hatte, und goss es aus auf ⟨sein⟩ Haupt, als er zu Tisch lag. (Lk 7,37)8Als aber die Jünger es sahen, wurden sie unwillig und sprachen: Wozu diese Verschwendung?9Denn dies hätte teuer verkauft und ⟨der Erlös⟩ den Armen gegeben werden können.10Als aber Jesus es erkannte, sprach er zu ihnen: Was macht ihr der Frau Mühe? Sie hat doch ein gutes Werk an mir getan;11denn die Armen habt ihr allezeit bei euch, mich aber habt ihr nicht allezeit. (5Mo 15,11)12Denn als sie dieses Salböl über meinen Leib goss, tat sie es zu meinem Begräbnis.13Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wo dieses Evangelium gepredigt werden wird in der ganzen Welt, wird auch von dem geredet werden, was sie getan hat, zu ihrem Gedächtnis. (1Sam 2,30; Mk 14,10; Lk 22,3)14Dann ging einer von den Zwölfen, Judas Iskariot[3] mit Namen, zu den Hohen Priestern (Mt 10,4; Joh 11,57)15und sprach: Was wollt ihr mir geben, und ich werde ihn euch überliefern? Sie aber setzten ihm dreißig Silberlinge fest. (Mt 27,3; 1Tim 6,10)16Und von da an suchte er Gelegenheit, ihn zu überliefern. (Mk 14,12; Lk 22,7)
Vorbereitung des Passahmahls
17Am ersten ⟨Tag des Festes⟩ der ungesäuerten Brote aber traten die Jünger zu Jesus und sprachen: Wo willst du, dass wir dir das Passah⟨mahl⟩ zu essen bereiten? (2Mo 12,11; 2Mo 12,18; 3Mo 23,5; 4Mo 28,16; 5Mo 16,2)18Er aber sprach: Geht in die Stadt zu dem und dem und sprecht zu ihm: Der Lehrer sagt: Meine Zeit ist nahe; bei dir halte ich das Passah mit meinen Jüngern. (Mt 21,3)19Und die Jünger taten, wie Jesus ihnen befohlen hatte, und bereiteten das Passah. (Mk 14,17; Lk 22,14; Joh 13,18)
Bezeichnung des Verräters
20Als es aber Abend geworden war, legte er sich mit den Zwölfen zu Tisch.21Und während sie aßen, sprach er: Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Einer von euch wird mich überliefern. (Joh 6,70)22Und sie wurden sehr betrübt, und jeder von ihnen fing an, zu ihm zu sagen: Ich bin es doch nicht, Herr?23Er aber antwortete und sprach: Der mit mir die Hand in die Schüssel eintaucht, der wird mich überliefern.24Der Sohn des Menschen geht zwar dahin, wie über ihn geschrieben steht. Wehe aber jenem Menschen, durch den der Sohn des Menschen überliefert wird! Es wäre jenem Menschen gut, wenn er nicht geboren wäre. (Jes 53,7; Dan 9,26; Mt 18,7; Mt 26,54; Lk 18,31; 1Petr 1,11)25Judas aber, der ihn überlieferte, antwortete und sprach: Ich bin es doch nicht, Rabbi[4]? Er spricht zu ihm: Du hast es gesagt. (Mk 14,22; Lk 22,15; 1Kor 11,23)
Einsetzung des Herrenmahls
26Während sie aber aßen, nahm Jesus Brot und segnete, brach und gab es den Jüngern und sprach: Nehmt, esst, dies ist mein Leib! (Mt 14,19)27Und er nahm einen Kelch und dankte und gab ihnen ⟨den⟩ und sprach: Trinkt alle daraus!28Denn dies ist mein Blut des Bundes, das für viele vergossen wird zur Vergebung der Sünden. (2Mo 24,8; Jer 31,31; Sach 9,11; Mt 20,28; Eph 1,7; Hebr 9,22; Hebr 10,16)29Ich sage euch aber, dass ich von nun an nicht mehr von diesem Gewächs des Weinstocks trinken werde bis zu jenem Tag, da ich es neu mit euch trinken werde in dem Reich[5] meines Vaters.30Und als sie ein Loblied[6] gesungen hatten, gingen sie hinaus zum Ölberg. Ankündigung der Verleugnung durch Petrus
31Darauf spricht Jesus zu ihnen: Ihr werdet alle in dieser Nacht an mir Anstoß nehmen[7]; denn es steht geschrieben: »Ich werde den Hirten schlagen, und die Schafe der Herde werden zerstreut werden.« (Sach 13,7; Mt 11,6; Mt 26,56; Joh 16,32)32Nachdem ich aber auferweckt sein werde, werde ich euch voran nach Galiläa gehen. (Mt 28,7)33Petrus aber antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Wenn alle an dir Anstoß nehmen werden, ich werde niemals Anstoß nehmen[8].34Jesus sprach zu ihm: Wahrlich, ich sage dir, dass du in dieser Nacht, ehe der Hahn kräht, mich dreimal verleugnen wirst. (Mt 26,75)35Petrus spricht zu ihm: Selbst wenn ich mit dir sterben müsste, werde ich dich nicht verleugnen. Ebenso sprachen auch alle Jünger. (Mk 14,32; Lk 22,39; Joh 11,16)
Gethsemane
36Dann kommt Jesus mit ihnen an ein Gut[9], genannt Gethsemane, und er spricht zu den Jüngern: Setzt euch hier, bis ich hingegangen bin und dort gebetet habe! (Joh 18,1)37Und er nahm den Petrus und die zwei Söhne des Zebedäus mit und fing an, betrübt und geängstigt zu werden. (Mt 17,1)38Dann spricht er zu ihnen: Meine Seele ist sehr betrübt, bis zum Tod. Bleibt hier und wacht mit mir! (Ps 88,4; Lk 12,50)39Und er ging ein wenig weiter und fiel auf sein Angesicht und betete und sprach: Mein Vater, wenn es möglich ist, so gehe dieser Kelch an mir vorüber! Doch nicht wie ich will, sondern wie du ⟨willst⟩. (Mt 20,22; Joh 4,34; Phil 2,8)40Und er kommt zu den Jüngern und findet sie schlafend; und er spricht zu Petrus: Also nicht eine Stunde konntet ihr mit mir wachen? (Ps 69,21)41Wacht und betet, damit ihr nicht in Versuchung kommt! Der Geist zwar ist willig, das Fleisch aber schwach. (Lk 18,1; Röm 7,18; Eph 6,18; 1Petr 5,8)42Wiederum, zum zweiten Mal, ging er hin und betete und sprach: Mein Vater, wenn dieser ⟨Kelch⟩ nicht vorübergehen kann, ohne dass ich ihn trinke, so geschehe dein Wille! (Mt 6,10; Joh 18,11)43Und als er kam, fand er sie wieder schlafend, denn ihre Augen waren beschwert. (Lk 9,32)44Und er ließ sie, ging wieder hin, betete zum dritten Mal und sprach wieder dasselbe Wort. (2Kor 12,8)45Dann kommt er zu den Jüngern und spricht zu ihnen: So schlaft denn fort und ruht aus! Siehe, die Stunde ist nahe gekommen, und der Sohn des Menschen wird in Sünderhände überliefert. (Mt 17,22; Joh 12,23)46Steht auf, lasst uns gehen! Siehe, nahe ist gekommen, der mich überliefert. Gefangennahme
47Und während er noch redete, siehe, da kam Judas, einer der Zwölf, und mit ihm eine große Menge mit Schwertern und Stöcken, von den Hohen Priestern und Ältesten des Volkes.48Der ihn aber überlieferte, hatte ihnen ein Zeichen gegeben und gesagt: Wen ich küssen werde, der ist es, den ergreift!49Und sogleich trat er zu Jesus und sprach: Sei gegrüßt, Rabbi[10]!, und küsste ihn[11]. (2Sam 20,9; Ps 55,22)50Jesus aber sprach zu ihm: Freund, wozu bist du gekommen? Dann traten sie heran und legten die Hände an Jesus und ergriffen ihn.51Und siehe, einer von denen, die mit Jesus waren, streckte die Hand aus, zog sein Schwert und schlug den Knecht[12] des Hohen Priesters und hieb ihm das Ohr ab.52Da spricht Jesus zu ihm: Stecke dein Schwert wieder an seinen Ort! Denn alle, die das Schwert nehmen, werden durchs Schwert umkommen. (1Mo 9,6; Offb 13,10)53Oder meinst du, dass ich nicht meinen Vater bitten könne und er mir jetzt mehr als zwölf Legionen Engel stellen werde?54Wie sollten denn die Schriften erfüllt werden, dass es so geschehen muss? (Mt 26,24)55In jener Stunde sprach Jesus zu den Volksmengen: Seid ihr ausgezogen wie gegen einen Räuber mit Schwertern und Stöcken, mich zu fangen? Täglich saß ich bei euch im Tempel und lehrte, und ihr habt mich nicht gegriffen. (Lk 19,47)56Aber dies alles ist geschehen, damit die Schriften der Propheten erfüllt wurden. Da verließen ihn die Jünger alle und flohen. (Ps 88,19; Mt 26,31; Mt 27,9; Mk 14,53; Lk 22,54; Joh 18,13)
Vor dem Hohen Rat
57Die aber Jesus gegriffen hatten, führten ihn weg zu Kaiphas, dem Hohen Priester, wo die Schriftgelehrten und die Ältesten versammelt waren.58Petrus aber folgte ihm von Weitem bis zu dem Hof des Hohen Priesters und ging hinein und setzte sich zu den Dienern, um den Ausgang zu sehen.59Die Hohen Priester aber und der ganze Hohe Rat[13] suchten falsches Zeugnis gegen Jesus, um ihn zu Tode zu bringen; (Apg 6,11)60und sie fanden keins, obwohl viele falsche Zeugen herzutraten. Zuletzt aber traten zwei falsche Zeugen herbei (5Mo 19,15; Ps 27,12)61und sprachen: Dieser sagte: Ich kann den Tempel Gottes abbrechen und in drei Tagen ihn wieder aufbauen. (Mt 27,40; Joh 2,19)62Und der Hohe Priester stand auf und sprach zu ihm: Antwortest du nichts? Was zeugen diese gegen dich?63Jesus aber schwieg. Und der Hohe Priester sagte zu ihm: Ich beschwöre dich bei dem lebendigen Gott, dass du uns sagst, ob du der Christus bist, der Sohn Gottes! (Ps 38,14; Jes 53,7; Mt 27,12; Lk 23,9; Joh 5,18; Joh 19,9)64Jesus spricht zu ihm: Du hast es gesagt. Doch ich sage euch: Von nun an werdet ihr den Sohn des Menschen sitzen sehen zur Rechten der Macht und kommen auf den Wolken des Himmels. (Mt 16,27; Mk 16,19; Lk 21,27; Hebr 1,3; Offb 1,7)65Da zerriss der Hohe Priester seine Kleider und sprach: Er hat gelästert. Was brauchen wir noch Zeugen? Siehe, jetzt habt ihr die Lästerung gehört. (3Mo 21,10; Mt 9,3; Mk 2,7; Joh 10,33)66Was meint ihr? Sie aber antworteten und sprachen: Er ist des Todes schuldig. (3Mo 24,16; Mt 20,18)67Dann spien sie ihm ins Angesicht und schlugen ihn mit Fäusten; einige aber schlugen ⟨ihn ins Gesicht⟩ (Ps 69,8; Jes 50,6; Jes 53,7; Mt 27,30; Mk 10,34)68und sprachen: Weissage uns, Christus, wer ist es, der dich schlug? (Mk 14,66; Lk 22,56; Joh 18,15)
Verleugnung durch Petrus
69Petrus aber saß draußen im Hof; und es trat eine Magd zu ihm und sprach: Auch du warst mit Jesus, dem Galiläer. (Mt 21,11)70Er aber leugnete vor allen und sprach: Ich weiß nicht, was du sagst.71Als er aber in das Torgebäude hinausgegangen war, sah ihn eine andere; und sie spricht zu denen, die dort waren: Auch dieser war mit Jesus, dem Nazoräer[14]. (Mt 2,22)72Und wieder leugnete er mit einem Eid: Ich kenne den Menschen nicht!73Kurz nachher aber traten die Umstehenden herbei und sprachen zu Petrus: Wahrhaftig, auch du bist ⟨einer⟩ von ihnen, denn auch deine Sprache verrät dich.74Da fing er an zu fluchen und zu schwören: Ich kenne den Menschen nicht! Und gleich darauf krähte der Hahn.75Und Petrus erinnerte sich an das Wort Jesu, der gesagt hatte: Ehe der Hahn kräht, wirst du mich dreimal verleugnen. Und er ging hinaus und weinte bitterlich. (Mt 26,34; Mk 15,1; Lk 22,66; Lk 23,1; Joh 18,28)
1When Jesus had finished saying all these things, he said to his disciples,2‘As you know, the Passover is two days away – and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.’3Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas,4and they schemed to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him.5‘But not during the festival,’ they said, ‘or there may be a riot among the people.’
Jesus anointed at Bethany
6While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of Simon the Leper,7a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table.8When the disciples saw this, they were indignant. ‘Why this waste?’ they asked.9‘This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor.’10Aware of this, Jesus said to them, ‘Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me.11The poor you will always have with you,[1] but you will not always have me. (5Mo 15,11)12When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial.13Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.’
Judas agrees to betray Jesus
14Then one of the Twelve – the one called Judas Iscariot – went to the chief priests15and asked, ‘What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?’ So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver.16From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.
The Last Supper
17On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked, ‘Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?’18He replied, ‘Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, “The Teacher says: my appointed time is near. I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.” ’19So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover.20When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the Twelve.21And while they were eating, he said, ‘Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.’22They were very sad and began to say to him one after the other, ‘Surely you don’t mean me, Lord?’23Jesus replied, ‘The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me.24The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.’25Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, ‘Surely you don’t mean me, Rabbi?’ Jesus answered, ‘You have said so.’26While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, ‘Take and eat; this is my body.’27Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, ‘Drink from it, all of you.28This is my blood of the[2] covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.29I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.’30When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
Jesus predicts Peter’s denial
31Then Jesus told them, ‘This very night you will all fall away on account of me, for it is written: ‘ “I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.” (Sach 13,7)32But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.’33Peter replied, ‘Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will.’34‘Truly I tell you,’ Jesus answered, ‘this very night, before the cock crows, you will disown me three times.’35But Peter declared, ‘Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you.’ And all the other disciples said the same.
Gethsemane
36Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, ‘Sit here while I go over there and pray.’37He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled.38Then he said to them, ‘My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.’39Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, ‘My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.’40Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. ‘Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?’ he asked Peter.41‘Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.’42He went away a second time and prayed, ‘My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.’43When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy.44So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing.45Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, ‘Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour has come, and the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners.46Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!’
Jesus arrested
47While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived. With him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and the elders of the people.48Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: ‘The one I kiss is the man; arrest him.’49Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, ‘Greetings, Rabbi!’ and kissed him.50Jesus replied, ‘Do what you came for, friend.’[3] Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him.51With that, one of Jesus’ companions reached for his sword, drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.52‘Put your sword back in its place,’ Jesus said to him, ‘for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.53Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?54But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?’55In that hour Jesus said to the crowd, ‘Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple courts teaching, and you did not arrest me.56But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled.’ Then all the disciples deserted him and fled.
Jesus before the Sanhedrin
57Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the teachers of the law and the elders had assembled.58But Peter followed him at a distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest. He entered and sat down with the guards to see the outcome.59The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death.60But they did not find any, though many false witnesses came forward. Finally two came forward61and declared, ‘This fellow said, “I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.” ’62Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, ‘Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?’63But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, ‘I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.’64‘You have said so,’ Jesus replied. ‘But I say to all of you: from now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.’[4] (Ps 110,1; Dan 7,13)65Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, ‘He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy.66What do you think?’ ‘He is worthy of death,’ they answered.67Then they spat in his face and struck him with their fists. Others slapped him68and said, ‘Prophesy to us, Messiah. Who hit you?’
Peter disowns Jesus
69Now Peter was sitting out in the courtyard, and a servant-girl came to him. ‘You also were with Jesus of Galilee,’ she said.70But he denied it before them all. ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about,’ he said.71Then he went out to the gateway, where another servant-girl saw him and said to the people there, ‘This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth.’72He denied it again, with an oath: ‘I don’t know the man!’73After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, ‘Surely you are one of them; your accent gives you away.’74Then he began to call down curses, and he swore to them, ‘I don’t know the man!’ Immediately a cock crowed.75Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: ‘Before the cock crows, you will disown me three times.’ And he went outside and wept bitterly.

Jésus lui répondit: Tu l'as dit.26Pendant qu'ils mangeaient, Jésus prit du pain; et, après avoir rendu grâces, il le rompit, et le donna aux disciples, en disant: Prenez, mangez, ceci est mon corps.27Il prit ensuite une coupe; et, après avoir rendu grâces, il la leur donna, en disant: Buvez-en tous;28car ceci est mon sang, le sang de l'alliance, qui est répandu pour plusieurs, pour la rémission des péchés.29Je vous le dis, je ne boirai plus désormais de ce fruit de la vigne, jusqu'au jour où j'en boirai du nouveau avec vous dans le royaume de mon Père.30Après voir chanté les cantiques, ils se rendirent à la montagne des oliviers.31Alors Jésus leur dit: Je serai pour vous tous, cette nuit, une occasion de chute; car il est écrit: Je frapperai le berger, et les brebis du troupeau seront dispersées.32Mais, après que je serai ressuscité, je vous précèderai en Galilée.33Pierre, prenant la parole, lui dit: Quand tu serais pour tous une occasion de chute, tu ne le seras jamais pour moi.34Jésus lui dit: Je te le dis en vérité, cette nuit même, avant que le coq chante, tu me renieras trois fois.35Pierre lui répondit: Quand il me faudrait mourir avec toi, je ne te renierai pas. Et tous les disciples dirent la même chose.36Là-dessus, Jésus alla avec eux dans un lieu appelé Gethsémané, et il dit aux disciples: Asseyez-vous ici, pendant que je m'éloignerai pour prier.37Il prit avec lui Pierre et les deux fils de Zébédée, et il commença à éprouver de la tristesse et des angoisses.38Il leur dit alors: Mon âme est triste jusqu'à la mort; restez ici, et veillez avec moi.39Puis, ayant fait quelques pas en avant, il se jeta sur sa face, et pria ainsi: Mon Père, s'il est possible, que cette coupe s'éloigne de moi! Toutefois, non pas ce que je veux, mais ce que tu veux.40Et il vint vers les disciples, qu'il trouva endormis, et il dit à Pierre: Vous n'avez donc pu veiller une heure avec moi!41Veillez et priez, afin que vous ne tombiez pas dans la tentation; l'esprit es bien disposé, mais la chair est faible.42Il s'éloigna une seconde fois, et pria ainsi: Mon Père, s'il n'est pas possible que cette coupe s'éloigne sans que je la boive, que ta volonté soit faite!43Il revint, et les trouva encore endormis; car leurs yeux étaient appesantis.44Il les quitta, et, s'éloignant, il pria pour la troisième fois, répétant les mêmes paroles.45Puis il alla vers ses disciples, et leur dit: Vous dormez maintenant, et vous vous reposez! Voici, l'heure est proche, et le Fils de l'homme est livré aux mains des pécheurs.46Levez-vous, allons; voici, celui qui me livre s'approche.47Comme il parlait encore, voici, Judas, l'un des douze, arriva, et avec lui une foule nombreuse armée d'épées et de bâtons, envoyée par les principaux sacrificateurs et par les anciens du peuple.48Celui qui le livrait leur avait donné ce signe: Celui que je baiserai, c'est lui; saisissez-le.49Aussitôt, s'approchant de Jésus, il dit: Salut, Rabbi! Et il le baisa.50Jésus lui dit: Mon ami, ce que tu es venu faire, fais-le. Alors ces gens s'avancèrent, mirent la main sur Jésus, et le saisirent.51Et voici, un de ceux qui étaient avec Jésus étendit la main, et tira son épée; il frappa le serviteur du souverain sacrificateur, et lui emporta l'oreille.52Alors Jésus lui dit: Remets ton épée à sa place; car tous ceux qui prendront l'épée périront par l'épée.53Penses-tu que je ne puisse pas invoquer mon Père, qui me donnerait à l'instant plus de douze légions d'anges?54Comment donc s'accompliraient les Écritures, d'après lesquelles il doit en être ainsi?55En ce moment, Jésus dit à la foule: Vous êtes venus, comme après un brigand, avec des épées et des bâtons, pour vous emparer de moi. J'étais tous les jours assis parmi vous, enseignant dans le temple, et vous ne m'avez pas saisi.56Mais tout cela est arrivé afin que les écrits des prophètes fussent accomplis. Alors tous les disciples l'abandonnèrent, et prirent la fuite.57Ceux qui avaient saisi Jésus l'emmenèrent chez le souverain sacrificateur Caïphe, où les scribes et les anciens étaient assemblés.58Pierre le suivit de loin jusqu'à la cour du souverain sacrificateur, y entra, et s'assit avec les serviteurs, pour voir comment cela finirait.59Les principaux sacrificateurs et tout le sanhédrin cherchaient quelque faux témoignage contre Jésus, suffisant pour le faire mourir.60Mais ils n'en trouvèrent point, quoique plusieurs faux témoins se fussent présentés. Enfin, il en vint deux, qui dirent:61Celui-ci a dit: Je puis détruire le temple de Dieu, et le rebâtir en trois jours.62Le souverain sacrificateur se leva, et lui dit: Ne réponds-tu rien? Qu'est-ce que ces hommes déposent contre toi?63Jésus garda le silence. Et le souverain sacrificateur, prenant la parole, lui dit: Je t'adjure, par le Dieu vivant, de nous dire si tu es le Christ, le Fils de Dieu.64Jésus lui répondit: Tu l'as dit. De plus, je vous le déclare, vous verrez désormais le Fils de l'homme assis à la droite de la puissance de Dieu, et venant sur les nuées du ciel.65Alors le souverain sacrificateur déchira ses vêtements, disant: Il a blasphémé! Qu'avons-nous encore besoin de témoins? Voici, vous venez d'entendre son blasphème. Que vous en semble?66Ils répondirent: Il mérite la mort.67Là-dessus, ils lui crachèrent au visage, et lui donnèrent des coups de poing et des soufflets en disant:68Christ, prophétise; dis-nous qui t'a frappé.69Cependant, Pierre était assis dehors dans la cour. Une servante s'approcha de lui, et dit: Toi aussi, tu étais avec Jésus le Galiléen.70Mais il le nia devant tous, disant: Je ne sais ce que tu veux dire.71Comme il se dirigeait vers la porte, une autre servante le vit, et dit à ceux qui se trouvaient là; Celui-ci était aussi avec Jésus de Nazareth.72Il le nia de nouveau, avec serment: Je ne connais pas cet homme.73Peu après, ceux qui étaient là, s'étant approchés, dirent à Pierre: Certainement tu es aussi de ces gens-là, car ton langage te fait reconnaître.74Alors il se mit à faire des imprécations et à jurer: Je ne connais pas cet homme. Aussitôt le coq chanta.75Et Pierre se souvint de la parole que Jésus avait dite: Avant que le coq chante, tu me renieras trois fois. Et étant sorti, il pleura amèrement.
1Quando Gesù ebbe finito di parlare di queste cose, disse ai discepoli:2«Come sapete, fra due giorni inizia la festa di Pasqua, ed io sarò arrestato e crocifisso».3Proprio in quel momento i capi sacerdoti e gli alti esponenti del popolo sʼincontravano in casa di Caifa, il sommo sacerdote,4per studiare il modo di catturare Gesù senza dare nellʼocchio, per poi ucciderlo.5«Ma non durante la celebrazione della Pasqua», sʼaccordarono, «altrimenti cʼè pericolo di una rivolta popolare».6Nel frattempo, Gesù era andato a Betania, in casa di Simone, il lebbroso.7Mentre stavano mangiando, gli si avvicinò una donna con un vasetto dʼalabastro pieno di prezioso profumo, che versò sul capo di Gesù.8-9I discepoli erano indignati: «Perché tutto questo spreco?» dicevano fra loro. «Quella donna avrebbe potuto vendere quel profumo per un sacco di soldi e darli poi ai poveri!»10Gesù, sapendo ciò che stavano pensando, disse: «Perché la criticate? Ella ha compiuto una buona azione verso di me.11Voi avete sempre dei poveri fra di voi, ma non sempre avrete me.12Questa donna, versando il suo profumo sulla mia testa, ha preparato il mio corpo per la sepoltura.13Per questa azione ella sarà sempre ricordata. La storia di ciò che ha fatto sarà raccontata per tutto il mondo, ovunque sarà predicato il Vangelo».14Allora Giuda Iscariota, uno dei dodici apostoli, si recò dai capi sacerdoti15e chiese: «Quanto mi date per avere Gesù in vostro potere?» Essi gli diedero trenta monete dʼargento.16Da quel momento Giuda cercò lʼoccasione propizia per fare arrestare Gesù.17Il primo giorno delle feste di Pasqua, quando in ogni casa ebraica si prepara il pane senza lievito, i discepoli vennero a chiedere a Gesù: «Dove vuoi che ti prepariamo il pranzo di Pasqua?»18Gesù rispose: «Andate in città dal tal dei tali e ditegli: “Il nostro maestro dice che sta per arrivare il suo momento e farà il pranzo di Pasqua con i suoi discepoli a casa tua”».19I discepoli fecero come Gesù aveva loro ordinato e prepararono là per la cena.20-21Quella sera, mentre sedeva a tavola con i dodici, Gesù disse: «Uno di voi mi tradirà».22I discepoli diventarono molto tristi e cominciarono a chiedergli uno alla volta: «Sono io quello che ti tradirà, Signore?»23E Gesù rispose: «È quello che ho servito per primo.24Devo morire, proprio come dice la profezia, ma guai allʼuomo da cui sono tradito! Sarebbe stato molto meglio per lui se non fosse mai nato!»25Anche Giuda, il traditore, gli chiese: «Maestro, sono io quello?» E Gesù gli rispose: «Sì».26Mentre stavano mangiando, Gesù prese del pane, lo benedì, lo spezzò, poi lo diede ai discepoli, dicendo: «Prendete e mangiate, questo è il mio corpo».27Poi prese una coppa di vino, ringraziò Dio e la diede ai discepoli, dicendo: «Bevetene tutti,28perché questo è il mio sangue, che suggella il Nuovo Patto. È versato per perdonare i peccati di molti.29Ricordate le mie parole: non berrò più vino fino al giorno in cui non ne berrò del nuovo con voi nel Regno di mio Padre».30E, dopo aver cantato un inno, si avviarono verso il Monte degli Ulivi.31Allora Gesù disse loro: «Stanotte tutti voi mi abbandonerete. Perché nelle Scritture è scritto che Dio colpirà il Pastore, e le pecore del gregge saranno disperse.32Ma dopo che sarò risorto, vi precederò in Galilea, e là vʼincontrerò».33Pietro disse: «Anche se tutti ti abbandonano, io non lo farò mai!»34Allora Gesù rispose: «Io invece ti dico che proprio stanotte, prima che il gallo canti allʼalba, tu mi rinnegherai tre volte!»35«Morirei piuttosto!» insistette Pietro. Ed anche tutti gli altri discepoli asserivano lo stesso.
Gesù prega
36Allora Gesù li portò in un orto, detto Getsemani, e disse loro di sedere ed aspettare mentre andava avanti a pregare.37Prese con sé Pietro e i due figli di Zebedeo, Giacomo e Giovanni, e cominciò a sentirsi angosciato e disperato.38Poi disse loro: «La mia anima è oppressa dallʼorrore e dalla tristezza della morte… Restate qui… restate svegli con me!…»39Li precedette di poco, poi cadde a faccia in terra e pregò: «Padre mio! Se è possibile, allontana da me questo calice di dolore! Ma sia fatta la tua volontà, non la mia».40Poi tornò dai tre discepoli e li trovò addormentati. «Pietro», disse Gesù, «non siete neppure capaci di rimanere svegli con me per unʼora?41State svegli e pregate! Altrimenti sarete sopraffatti dalla tentazione. Perché senza dubbio lo spirito è pronto, ma il corpo è tanto debole!»42Li lasciò di nuovo e tornò a pregare: «Padre mio! Se questo calice non può essere allontanato da me finché non lo abbia bevuto completamente, sia fatta la tua volontà!»43Poi tornò dai discepoli e di nuovo li trovò addormentati, perché non erano riusciti a tenere gli occhi aperti.44Così se ne ritornò a pregare da solo per la terza volta, ripetendo le stesse parole.45Poi si avvicinò ai discepoli e disse: «Dormite pure e riposatevi. Ormai è giunta lʼora! Sono tradito e consegnato a degli uomini malvagi.46Su, andiamo. Ecco che arriva lʼuomo che mi tradisce!»47Non aveva ancora finito di parlare, che arrivò Giuda, uno dei dodici, e con lui cʼerano molti uomini armati di spade e bastoni, mandati dai capi giudei.48Giuda aveva detto loro di arrestare lʼuomo che egli avrebbe baciato, perché era lui quello che cercavano.49Perciò, Giuda si avvicinò a Gesù e disse: «Salve Maestro!» Poi lo baciò.50Gesù disse: «Amico, fai pure ciò per cui sei venuto fin qui». Allora gli altri gli furono addosso.51Uno degli uomini che erano con Gesù sfoderò una spada e staccò di netto lʼorecchio di un servo del sommo sacerdote.52«Metti via quella spada!» lo rimproverò Gesù. «Perché quelli che usano le spade, finiranno uccisi.53Non ti rendi conto che potrei chiedere a mio Padre dodici legioni di angeli per proteggerci, e me li manderebbe immediatamente?54Ma se lo facessi, come si avvererebbero le Scritture che descrivono ciò che sta accadendo ora?»55Poi Gesù disse a quegli uomini: «Sono forse un criminale così pericoloso, da armarvi di spade e bastoni per venire ad arrestarmi? Tutti i giorni ero seduto nel tempio ad insegnare, e non mi avete arrestato allora.56Ma tutto questo sta avvenendo, perché si adempiano le parole dei profeti nelle Scritture». A questo punto, tutti i discepoli lo abbandonarono e scapparono via.57Allora la folla lo portò alla residenza di Caifa, il sommo sacerdote, dove si erano riuniti tutti i capi giudei.58Intanto, Pietro li aveva seguiti da lontano ed era entrato nel cortile della casa del sommo sacerdote. Là si mise a sedere con i soldati per vedere come andava a finire.59I capi sacerdoti e tutta la Corte Suprema Ebraica, si erano riuniti in assemblea e cercavano testimoni che mentissero sul conto di Gesù, per fargli un processo che si concludesse con una condanna a morte.60-61Ma, nonostante avessero trovato molti falsi testimoni, costoro si erano sempre contraddetti a vicenda. Finalmente si presentarono due uomini che dichiararono: «Questʼuomo ha detto: “Io posso distruggere il tempio di Dio e ricostruirlo in tre giorni”».62Allora il sommo sacerdote si alzò e si rivolse a Gesù: «Ebbene cosa rispondi? Hai detto così, sì o no?»63Ma Gesù taceva. Poi il sommo sacerdote gli disse: «Esigo nel nome del Dio Vivente di dirci se sei tu il Messia, il Figlio di Dio!»64«Sì», rispose Gesù, «sono io. Anzi, vi dico che in futuro vedrete me, il Figlio dellʼUomo, sedere alla destra di Dio onnipotente e ritornare sulle nuvole del cielo».65-66Allora il sommo sacerdote si stracciò le vesti, gridando: «Questa è una bestemmia! Che bisogno abbiamo di altri testimoni? Lo avete udito tutti con le vostre orecchie! Qual è la vostra sentenza?» E gli altri risposero: «Deve essere condannato a morte!»67Poi gli sputarono in faccia, lo presero a pugni ed alcuni lo schiaffeggiarono,68dicendo: «Indovina un poʼ, Cristo profeta, chi ti ha colpito questa volta?»
Pietro nega di conoscere Gesù
69Nel frattempo, mentre Pietro sedeva nel cortile, una serva gli si avvicinò e gli disse: «Tu eri con Gesù, perché venite tutti e due dalla Galilea!»70Ma Pietro lo negò a gran voce, dicendo: «Non so nemmeno di che cosa stai parlando!»71Più tardi, fuori dal cancello, una altra serva lo notò e disse a quelli che stavano lì intorno: «Questʼuomo era con Gesù di Nazaret!»72Di nuovo Pietro lo negò, stavolta con un giuramento: «Non lo conosco nemmeno quellʼuomo!» disse.73Ma, poco dopo, alcune persone gli si avvicinarono e gli dissero: «Sappiamo che sei uno dei suoi discepoli, si capisce dal tuo accento che sei della Galilea!»74Pietro cominciò a maledire e a spergiurare. «Non lo conosco nemmeno quellʼuomo là!» diceva. Improvvisamente il gallo cantò.75Allora Pietro si ricordò di ciò che Gesù gli aveva detto: «Prima che il gallo canti, tu mi rinnegherai tre volte». E si allontanò, piangendo amaramente.
