1 Und der Engel des HERRN kam von Gilgal herauf nach Bochim; und er sprach: Ich habe euch aus Ägypten heraufgeführt und euch in das Land gebracht, das ich euren Vätern zugeschworen habe. 2 und ihr, ihr sollt keinen Bund mit den Bewohnern dieses Landes schließen, ihre Altäre sollt ihr niederreißen. Aber ihr habt meiner Stimme nicht gehorcht. Was habt ihr da getan! 5 Und sie gaben jenem Ort den Namen Bochim^[2]. Und sie opferten dort dem HERRN.

Josuas Tod und Begräbnis

6 Und Josua entließ das Volk, und die Söhne Israel gingen hin, jeder in sein Erbteil, um das Land in Besitz zu nehmen. (Jos 24,28) 7 Und das Volk diente dem HERRN alle Tage Josuas und alle Tage der Ältesten, die nach Josua noch länger lebten^[3], die das ganze große Werk des HERRN gesehen hatten, das er für Israel getan hatte. (Jos 24,31) 8 Dann starb Josua, der Sohn des Nun, der Knecht des HERRN, 110 Jahre alt. (Jos 24,29; Ri 1,1) 9 Und sie begruben ihn im Gebiet seines Erbteils, in Timnat-Heres auf dem Gebirge Ephraim, nördlich vom Berg Gaasch. (Jos 24,29; Ri 1,1) 10 Und auch jene ganze Generation^[4] wurde zu ihren Vätern versammelt. Und eine andere Generation kam nach ihnen auf, die den HERRN nicht kannte und auch nicht das Werk, das er für Israel getan hatte. (2Mo 1,6; Jos 24,31; Jer 9,2)

Die Richterzeit: Eine Abfolge von Untreue, Gericht, Hilferuf und Rettung

12 Und sie verließen den HERRN, den Gott ihrer Väter, der sie aus dem Land Ägypten herausgeführt hatte, und liefen anderen Göttern nach, von den Göttern der Völker, die rings um sie her ⟨lebten⟩, und sie warfen sich vor ihnen nieder und reizten den HERRN zum Zorn. 14 Da entbrannte der Zorn des HERRN gegen Israel, und er gab sie in die Hand von Plünderern, die sie ausplünderten. Und er verkaufte sie in die Hand ihrer Feinde ringsum, sodass sie vor ihren Feinden nicht mehr standhalten konnten. 15 Überall, wohin sie auszogen, war die Hand des HERRN gegen sie zum Bösen, ganz wie der HERR geredet und wie der HERR ihnen geschworen hatte; so waren sie sehr bedrängt. (5Mo 18,20; Ri 10,9; Rut 1,13; 1Sam 12,15; 2Chr 12,1)

17 Aber auch auf ihre Richter hörten sie nicht, sondern hurten anderen Göttern nach und warfen sich vor ihnen nieder. Sie wichen schnell ab von dem Weg, den ihre Väter, um den Geboten des HERRN zu gehorchen, gegangen waren; sie handelten nicht so. (5Mo 31,16; 2Chr 36,16; Jer 3,6; Jer 6,16)

18 Und wenn der HERR ihnen Richter erstehen ließ, war der HERR mit dem Richter, und er rettete sie aus der Hand ihrer Feinde alle Tage des Richters. Denn der HERR hatte Mitleid wegen ihres Ächzens über die, die sie quälten und sie bedrängten. (2Mo 32,14; Ri 3,9; Ri 6,12; Ri 10,16; Ps 106,45)

Israel’s Disobedience

1 Now the angel of the LORD went up from Gilgal to Bochim. And he said, “I brought you up from Egypt and brought you into the land that I swore to give to your fathers. I said, ‘I will never break my covenant with you, (1Mo 17,7; 2Mo 6,4; 5Mo 31,16; Ri 2,5)

2 and you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall break down their altars.’ But you have not obeyed my voice. What is this you have done? (5Mo 7,2; 5Mo 12,3) 3 So now I say, I will not drive them out before you, but they shall become thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare to you.” (4Mo 33,55; Jos 23,13; Ri 2,21) 4 As soon as the angel of the LORD spoke these words to all the people of Israel, the people lifted up their voices and wept. 5 And they called the name of that place Bochim.^[1] And they sacrificed there to the LORD.

The Death of Joshua

6 When Joshua dismissed the people, the people of Israel went each to his inheritance to take possession of the land. 7 And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great work that the LORD had done for Israel. (Jos 24,29) 8 And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died at the age of 110 years. 9 And they buried him within the boundaries of his inheritance in Timnath-heres, in the hill country of Ephraim, north of the mountain of Gaash. (Jos 19,50; Jos 24,33) 10 And all that generation also were gathered to their fathers. And there arose another generation after them who did not know the LORD or the work that he had done for Israel.

Israel’s Unfaithfulness

11 And the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the LORD and served the Baals. (Ri 3,7; Ri 4,1; Ri 6,1; Ri 10,6; Ri 13,1)

12 And they abandoned the LORD, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt. 14 So the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he gave them over to plunderers, who plundered them. And he sold them into the hand of their surrounding enemies, so that they could no longer withstand their enemies. 15 Whenever they marched out, the hand of the LORD was against them for harm, as the LORD had warned, and as the LORD had sworn to them. And they were in terrible distress. (3Mo 26,14; 5Mo 28,15)

The Lord Raises Up Judges

16 Then the LORD raised up judges, who saved them out of the hand of those who plundered them. (Ri 3,9; Ri 3,15; Ri 3,31; Ri 10,1; Ri 10,12; Ri 10,13; Ri 12,2; Ri 12,3; Ri 13,5; 1Sam 12,11; Neh 9,27; Apg 13,20)

17 Yet they did not listen to their judges, for they whored after other gods and bowed down to them. They soon turned aside from the way in which their fathers had walked, who had obeyed the commandments of the LORD, and they did not do so. 19 But whenever the judge died, they turned back and were more corrupt than their fathers, going after other gods, serving them and bowing down to them. They did not drop any of their practices or their stubborn ways. (Ri 3,12; Ri 4,1; Ri 6,1; Ri 8,33)
