Klage über die Nichtigkeit des Menschenlebens – Vergebliches Hoffen auf Trost nach dem Tod
1Der Mensch, von der Frau geboren, lebt kurze Zeit[1] und ist mit Unruhe gesättigt. (1Mo 47,9; Hi 5,7; Hi 9,25; Hi 15,14; Hi 25,4; Ps 39,6; Jer 20,18)2Wie eine Blume kommt er hervor und verwelkt[2]; und wie der Schatten flieht er und kann nicht bestehen. (Hi 8,9; Ps 39,7; Ps 90,6; Jak 1,10)3Doch über einen solchen hast du deine Augen geöffnet, und mich führst du ins Gericht mit dir! (Hi 7,17; Ps 143,2)4Wie könnte ein Reiner vom Unreinen ⟨kommen⟩? Nicht ein Einziger! (Ps 51,7; Joh 3,6)5Wenn seine ⟨Lebens⟩tage festgesetzt sind, die Zahl seiner Monate bei dir ⟨feststeht⟩, wenn du ⟨ihm⟩ sein Ziel gesetzt hast, dass er es nicht überschreiten kann, (1Sam 26,10; Hi 16,22; Pred 3,2; Pred 8,8; Apg 17,26)6so blicke weg von ihm, sodass er Ruhe hat, damit er wie ein Tagelöhner seinen Tag genießen kann! (Hi 7,1; Hi 7,16)7Denn für den Baum gibt es Hoffnung. Wird er abgehauen, so schlägt er wieder aus, und seine Triebe bleiben nicht aus. (Jes 6,13)8Wenn seine Wurzel ⟨auch⟩ in der Erde altert und sein Stumpf im Staub abstirbt –9vom Duft des Wassers sprosst er wieder und treibt Gezweig wie ein Setzling. (Dan 4,12)10Ein Mann aber stirbt und liegt da; und ein Mensch verscheidet, und wo ist er ⟨dann⟩? (1Chr 29,15; Hi 7,8; Hi 20,7; Pred 3,20)11Das Wasser verrinnt aus dem Meer, und der Fluss trocknet aus und versiegt;12so legt der Mensch sich hin und steht nicht wieder auf. Bis der Himmel nicht mehr ist, erwacht er nicht und wird nicht aufgeweckt aus seinem Schlaf[3]. (Hi 3,13; Hi 7,9; Pred 11,8; 2Petr 3,10)13Dass du mich doch im Scheol verstecktest, mich verbärgest, bis dein Zorn sich abwendet, mir ein Ziel setztest und dann meiner gedächtest!14– Wenn ein Mann stirbt, wird er etwa wieder leben? – Alle Tage meines Dienstes[4] wollte ich harren, bis meine Ablösung käme! (Hi 20,7; Pred 3,20; Jes 8,17)15Du würdest rufen, und ich würde dir antworten, nach dem Werk deiner Hände würdest du dich sehnen. (Hi 13,22)16Denn dann würdest du ⟨zwar⟩ meine Schritte zählen, aber gäbest nicht acht auf meine Sünde![5] (Hi 10,6; Hi 13,27; Hi 31,4; Hi 33,11; Hi 34,21)17Mein Verbrechen wäre versiegelt in einem Bündel, und du würdest meine Schuld zudecken[6]. (Hi 9,20; Hos 13,12)18Und doch, ein Berg stürzt ein, zerfällt, und ein Fels rückt fort von seiner Stelle. (Hi 18,4)19Wasser zerreibt Steine, seine Fluten schwemmen den Staub der Erde hinweg. So machst du die Hoffnung des Menschen zunichte. (Hi 7,6; Hi 17,15; Hi 19,10)20Du überwältigst ihn für immer, und er geht dahin; sein Gesicht entstellst du und schickst ihn fort.21Kommen seine Kinder zu Ehren, er weiß es nicht, und werden sie gering, er achtet nicht auf sie. (Hi 21,21; Pred 9,5)22Sein Fleisch fühlt nur noch für sich selber Schmerz, und seine Seele trauert nur um sich[7].

(Hi 15,14; Ps 51,5; Joh 3,6)5Since his days are determined, and the number of his months is with you, and you have appointed his limits that he cannot pass, (Hi 7,1; Hi 21,21; Ps 39,4)6look away from him and leave him alone,[1] that he may enjoy, like a hired hand, his day. (Hi 7,1; Hi 7,19)7“For there is hope for a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that its shoots will not cease.8Though its root grow old in the earth, and its stump die in the soil, (Jes 11,1)9yet at the scent of water it will bud and put out branches like a young plant. (Hi 29,19)10But a man dies and is laid low; man breathes his last, and where is he? (Hi 29,7)11As waters fail from a lake and a river wastes away and dries up, (Jes 19,5)12so a man lies down and rises not again; till the heavens are no more he will not awake or be roused out of his sleep. (5Mo 11,21; Ps 72,5; Ps 89,29; Mt 5,18; Joh 11,11)13Oh that you would hide me in Sheol, that you would conceal me until your wrath be past, that you would appoint me a set time, and remember me! (Hi 21,13; Ps 27,5; Ps 31,20; Jes 26,20)14If a man dies, shall he live again? All the days of my service I would wait, till my renewal[2] should come. (Hi 7,1; Hi 13,15)15You would call, and I would answer you; you would long for the work of your hands. (Hi 10,3; Hi 13,22)16For then you would number my steps; you would not keep watch over my sin; (Hi 10,6; Hi 31,4; Hi 34,21)17my transgression would be sealed up in a bag, and you would cover over my iniquity. (5Mo 32,34; Hos 13,12)18“But the mountain falls and crumbles away, and the rock is removed from its place; (Hi 18,4; Jes 34,4)19the waters wear away the stones; the torrents wash away the soil of the earth; so you destroy the hope of man.20You prevail forever against him, and he passes; you change his countenance, and send him away.21His sons come to honor, and he does not know it; they are brought low, and he perceives it not. (Pred 9,5)22He feels only the pain of his own body, and he mourns only for himself.”
