Zweite Rede des Elifas: Er rügt Hiob wegen des unangemessenen Redens gegen Gott – Unheil für den Gottlosen
1Und Elifas von Teman antwortete und sagte: (Hi 4,1)2Wird ⟨etwa⟩ ein Weiser windige Erkenntnis zur Antwort geben, oder wird er sein Inneres mit Ostwind füllen? (Hi 8,2; Spr 16,23; Pred 5,15; Hos 12,2)3Wird er mit nutzlosen Worten streiten[1] oder mit Reden, mit denen er nicht hilft?4Ja, du zerstörst die Gottesfurcht und beschneidest die Andacht vor Gott.5Denn deine Schuld belehrt deinen Mund, und du wählst die Sprache der Listigen. (Hi 22,5; Hi 32,2; Lk 6,45)6Dein Mund verdammt dich und nicht ich; und deine Lippen sagen gegen dich aus. (1Kön 20,40; Hi 9,20; Mt 12,37; Lk 19,22)7Bist du als erster der Menschen geboren, oder bist du vor den Hügeln hervorgebracht worden? (Hi 38,4; Ps 90,2; Spr 8,25)8Hörst du im Rat Gottes zu, und reißt du die Weisheit an dich? (Röm 11,34)9Was hast du erkannt, das wir nicht erkannt hätten? Was verstehst du, das uns nicht bekannt wäre[2]? (Hi 13,2)10Unter uns sind auch Alte, auch Greise, reicher an Tagen als dein Vater. (Hi 12,12)11Sind dir die Tröstungen Gottes zu wenig oder ein Wort, das sanft mit dir ⟨verfuhr⟩? (Ps 77,3)12Was reißt dein Herz dich hin, und was rollen[3] deine Augen,13dass du dein Schnauben gegen Gott kehrst und ⟨solche⟩ Reden aus deinem Mund hast hervorgehen lassen? (1Mo 4,5; 2Kön 6,33; Spr 19,3; Kla 3,39; Hes 18,25)14Was ist der Mensch, dass er rein dastehen könnte, und der von einer Frau Geborene, dass er gerecht wäre? (1Kön 8,46; Hi 14,1; Ps 14,2; Ps 143,2; Röm 3,10)15Siehe, ⟨selbst⟩ auf seine Heiligen vertraut er nicht, und der Himmel ist nicht rein in seinen Augen, (Hi 4,18)16wie viel weniger der Abscheuliche und Verdorbene, der Mann, der Unrecht trinkt wie Wasser! (Hi 34,7)17Ich will dir verkünden, höre mir zu! Und was ich geschaut habe, will ich erzählen,18was die Weisen mitgeteilt und nicht verhehlt haben von ihren Vätern her[4] – (Hi 8,8)19ihnen allein war das Land gegeben, und kein Fremder zog in ihrer Mitte umher –: (5Mo 32,12)20All seine Tage quält sich der Gottlose in Angst, und eine ⟨kleine⟩ Zahl von Jahren ist dem Gewalttätigen aufbewahrt. (1Mo 4,14; Ps 55,24)21Der Ton des Schreckens ⟨gellt⟩ in seinen Ohren, im Frieden kommt der Verwüster über ihn. (Est 7,6; Hi 18,11; Spr 28,1; Jer 6,26)22Er glaubt nicht daran, aus der Finsternis zurückkehren zu können, und er ist ausersehen[5] für das Schwert.23Er irrt umher nach Brot – wo ⟨ist es⟩? Er hat erkannt, dass sich neben ihm ⟨schon⟩ ein finsterer Tag bereithält. (Hi 18,12; Ps 59,16; Spr 10,3; Spr 16,4)24Not und Bedrängnis schrecken ihn, sie überwältigen ihn[6] wie ein König, der zum Sturm bereit ist. (Hi 19,11)25Denn er hat seine Hand gegen Gott ausgestreckt, und dem Allmächtigen gegenüber hat er sich überheblich gebärdet. (Jer 48,26; Jer 50,24)26Mit ⟨hartem⟩ Nacken rannte er gegen ihn an, mit der Dicke seiner Schildbuckel. (2Mo 5,2; Ps 75,6)27Denn er hat sein Gesicht bedeckt mit seinem Fett und Speck an der Lende angesetzt, (Ps 73,4)28und er bewohnte zerstörte Städte, Häuser, in denen man nicht wohnen soll, die zu Steinhaufen bestimmt waren.29Er wird nicht reich, und sein Vermögen hat keinen Bestand; und nicht neigt sich zur Erde seine Ähre[7].30Er entweicht der Finsternis nicht; seine Triebe[8] dörrt die Flamme aus,[9] und er muss weichen beim Hauch seines[10] Mundes[11]. (Hi 4,9; Hi 18,5; Hi 20,26; Jes 11,4; Hos 6,5; 2Thess 2,8)31Er verlasse sich nicht auf Nichtiges, er wird irregeführt; denn Nichtiges wird sein Eintausch dafür sein. (Jer 37,9)32Wenn sein Tag noch nicht da ist, so erfüllt es sich ⟨schon⟩[12]; und sein Spross wird nicht grün. (Spr 10,27)33Wie der Weinstock stößt er seine unreifen Trauben ab, und wie der Olivenbaum wirft er seine Blüte ab.34Denn die Schar des Ruchlosen ist unfruchtbar, und Feuer frisst die Zelte der Bestechung. (Hi 18,15)35Sie sind schwanger mit Mühsal und gebären Unrecht, und ihr Inneres bereitet Verrat. (Ps 7,15; Jes 59,4; Mi 2,1; Jak 1,14)

And do you limit wisdom to yourself? (1Mo 1,26; 1Mo 3,22; Hi 29,4; Jer 23,18)9What do you know that we do not know? What do you understand that is not clear to us? (Hi 12,3; Hi 13,2)10Both the gray-haired and the aged are among us, older than your father. (Hi 12,12; Hi 32,6)11Are the comforts of God too small for you, or the word that deals gently with you?12Why does your heart carry you away, and why do your eyes flash,13that you turn your spirit against God and bring such words out of your mouth? (Hi 21,4)14What is man, that he can be pure? Or he who is born of a woman, that he can be righteous? (Hi 14,1; Hi 14,4; Hi 25,4; Ps 14,3; Spr 20,9; Pred 7,20; 1Joh 1,8; 1Joh 1,10)15Behold, God[2] puts no trust in his holy ones, and the heavens are not pure in his sight; (Hi 4,18; Hi 5,1)16how much less one who is abominable and corrupt, a man who drinks injustice like water! (Hi 9,14; Hi 34,7; Ps 14,3; Ps 53,1; Spr 19,28; Spr 26,6)17“I will show you; hear me, and what I have seen I will declare18(what wise men have told, without hiding it from their fathers, (Hi 8,8; Ps 44,1)19to whom alone the land was given, and no stranger passed among them). (Joe 3,17)20The wicked man writhes in pain all his days, through all the years that are laid up for the ruthless. (Hi 6,23; Hi 21,19; Hi 24,1; Hi 27,13)21Dreadful sounds are in his ears; in prosperity the destroyer will come upon him. (Hi 18,11; 1Thess 5,3)22He does not believe that he will return out of darkness, and he is marked for the sword.23He wanders abroad for bread, saying, ‘Where is it?’ He knows that a day of darkness is ready at his hand; (Ps 59,15; Ps 109,10)24distress and anguish terrify him; they prevail against him, like a king ready for battle. (Hi 14,20)25Because he has stretched out his hand against God and defies the Almighty,26running stubbornly against him with a thickly bossed shield; (Hi 16,14; Ps 75,5; Dan 8,6)27because he has covered his face with his fat and gathered fat upon his waist (Ps 17,10)28and has lived in desolate cities, in houses that none should inhabit, which were ready to become heaps of ruins;29he will not be rich, and his wealth will not endure, nor will his possessions spread over the earth;[3]30he will not depart from darkness; the flame will dry up his shoots, and by the breath of his mouth he will depart. (Hi 4,9)31Let him not trust in emptiness, deceiving himself, for emptiness will be his payment. (Jes 59,4)32It will be paid in full before his time, and his branch will not be green. (Hi 22,16; Ps 55,23; Ps 102,24; Pred 7,17)33He will shake off his unripe grape like the vine, and cast off his blossom like the olive tree.34For the company of the godless is barren, and fire consumes the tents of bribery. (Hi 16,7; Hi 20,26)35They conceive trouble and give birth to evil, and their womb prepares deceit.” (Hi 15,2; Ps 7,14; Jes 59,4; Hos 10,13)
