1 Als er aber die Zwölf zusammengerufen hatte, gab er ihnen Kraft und Vollmacht über alle Dämonen und zur Heilung von Krankheiten. (Lk 6,13) 2 Und er sandte sie, das Reich[1] Gottes zu predigen und die Kranken gesund zu machen. (Mk 3,14; Lk 8,1; Apg 28,31) 3 Und er sprach zu ihnen: Nehmt nichts mit auf den Weg: weder Stab noch Tasche noch Brot noch Geld, noch soll jemand zwei Unterkleider haben! (Lk 22,35) 4 Und in welches Haus ihr eintretet, dort bleibt, und von da geht weiter! 5 Und wo immer sie[2] euch nicht aufnehmen werden – geht fort aus jener Stadt und schüttelt auch den Staub von euren Füßen, zum Zeugnis gegen sie! 6 Sie gingen aber hinaus und durchzogen die Dörfer nacheinander, indem sie die gute Botschaft verkündigten und überall heilten. (Mt 14,1; Mk 6,14; Mk 16,20) 7 Es hörte aber Herodes[3], der Vierfürst[4], alles, was geschehen war, und er war in Verlegenheit, weil von einigen gesagt wurde, dass Johannes aus den Toten auferweckt worden sei; 8 von einigen aber, dass Elia erschienen, von anderen aber, dass einer der alten Propheten auferstanden sei. (Lk 9,19) 9 Und Herodes sprach: Johannes habe ich enthauptet. Wer aber ist dieser, von dem ich solches höre? Und er suchte ihn zu sehen. (Mt 14,10; Mt 14,13; Mk 6,30; Mk 8,1; Lk 23,8; Joh 6,1) 10 Und als die Apostel zurückkehrten, erzählten sie ihm alles, was sie getan hatten; und er nahm sie mit und zog sich abseits zurück nach einer Stadt mit Namen Betsaida. (Lk 10,17) 11 Als aber die Volksmengen es erfuhren, folgten sie ihm; und er nahm sie auf und redete zu ihnen vom Reich[5] Gottes, und die Heilung brauchten, machte er gesund. 12 Der Tag aber begann sich zu neigen, und die Zwölf traten herbei und sprachen zu ihm: Entlass die Volksmenge, dass sie in die Dörfer ringsum und auf die Höfe gehen und Herberge und Speise finden! Denn hier sind wir an einem öden Ort. 13 Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Gebt ihr ihnen zu essen! Sie aber sprachen: Wir haben nicht mehr als fünf Brote und zwei Fische – es sei denn, dass wir hingingen und für dieses ganze Volk Speise kauften. 14 Denn es waren etwa fünftausend Männer. Er sprach aber zu seinen Jüngern: Lasst sie sich in Gruppen zu je fünfzig lagern! 15 Und sie taten so und ließen alle sich lagern. 16 Er nahm aber die fünf Brote und die zwei Fische, blickte auf zum Himmel und segnete sie; und er brach sie und gab sie den Jüngern, damit sie der Volksmenge vorlegten. (1Sam 9,13; Apg 27,35) 17 Und sie aßen und wurden alle gesättigt; und es wurde aufgehoben, was ihnen an Brocken übrig geblieben war, zwölf Handkörbe ⟨voll⟩. (Mt 16,13; Mk 8,27) 18 Und es geschah, als er für sich allein betete, waren die Jünger bei ihm; und er fragte sie und sprach: Was sagen die Volksmengen, wer ich bin? (Lk 5,16) 19 Sie aber antworteten und sprachen: Johannes der Täufer; andere aber: Elia; andere aber, dass einer der alten Propheten auferstanden sei. (Lk 9,7) 20 Er sprach aber zu ihnen: Ihr aber, was sagt ihr, wer ich bin? Petrus aber antwortete und sprach: Der Christus Gottes. (Joh 6,69) 21 Er aber redete ihnen ernstlich zu und gebot ihnen, dies niemand zu sagen, (Lk 5,14) 22 und sprach: Der Sohn des Menschen muss vieles leiden und verworfen werden von den Ältesten und Hohen Priestern[6] und Schriftgelehrten und getötet und am dritten Tag auferweckt werden. (Mt 16,21; Mt 16,24; Mk 8,34; Lk 9,44) 23 Er sprach aber zu allen: Wenn jemand mir nachkommen will, verleugne er sich selbst und nehme sein Kreuz auf täglich und folge mir nach! (Lk 14,27; 2Kor 4,11) 24 Denn wer sein Leben[7] retten will, wird es verlieren; wer aber sein Leben[8] verliert um meinetwillen, der wird es retten. (Lk 17,33) 25 Denn was wird es einem Menschen nützen, wenn er die ganze Welt gewönne, sich selbst aber verlöre oder einbüßte? 26 Denn wer sich meiner und meiner Worte schämt, dessen wird der Sohn des Menschen sich schämen, wenn er kommen wird in seiner Herrlichkeit und der des Vaters und der heiligen Engel. (Lk 12,9; Lk 21,27) 27 Ich sage euch aber in Wahrheit: Es sind einige unter denen, die hier stehen, die den Tod nicht schmecken werden, bis sie das Reich[9] Gottes gesehen haben. (Mt 17,1; Mk 9,2; 2Petr 1,16) 28 Es geschah aber etwa acht Tage nach diesen Worten, dass er Petrus und Johannes und Jakobus mitnahm und auf den Berg stieg, um zu beten. (Lk 5,16; Lk 8,51) 29 Und als er betete, veränderte sich das Aussehen seines Angesichts, und sein Gewand wurde weiß, strahlend. 30 Und siehe, zwei Männer redeten mit ihm, es waren Mose und Elia. (5Mo 34,5; 2Kön 2,11) 31 Diese erschienen in Herrlichkeit und besprachen seinen Ausgang, den er in Jerusalem erfüllen sollte. (Lk 9,51) 32 Petrus aber und die mit ihm waren, waren beschwert vom Schlaf; als sie aber völlig aufgewacht waren, sahen sie seine Herrlichkeit und die zwei Männer, die bei ihm standen. (Mt 26,43) 33 Und es geschah, als sie von ihm schieden, sprach Petrus zu Jesus: Meister, es ist gut, dass wir hier sind; und lass uns drei Hütten machen, dir eine und Mose eine und Elia eine. Und er wusste nicht, was er sagte. 34 Als er aber dies sagte, kam eine Wolke und überschattete sie. Sie fürchteten sich aber, als sie in die Wolke hineinkamen; 35 und es geschah eine Stimme aus der Wolke, die sagte: Dieser ist mein auserwählter[10] Sohn, ihn hört! (Mk 1,11; Lk 1,35) 36 Und während die Stimme geschah, war Jesus wieder allein[11]. Und sie schwiegen und verkündeten in jenen Tagen niemand etwas von dem, was sie gesehen hatten. (Mt 17,14; Mk 9,14) 37 Es geschah aber am folgenden Tag, als sie von dem Berg herabgestiegen waren, da kam ihm eine große Volksmenge entgegen. 38 Und siehe, ein Mann aus der Volksmenge rief laut und sprach: Lehrer, ich bitte dich, blicke hin auf meinen Sohn, denn er ist mein einziger; (Lk 7,12) 39 und siehe, ein Geist ergreift ihn, und plötzlich schreit er, und er zerrt ihn unter Schäumen, und kaum einmal lässt er von ihm ab, er reibt ihn auf. (Lk 8,29) 40 Und ich bat deine Jünger, dass sie ihn austreiben möchten, und sie konnten es nicht. 41 Jesus aber antwortete und sprach: Ungläubiges und verkehrtes Geschlecht, bis wann soll ich bei euch sein und euch ertragen? Bring deinen Sohn her! (Ps 78,8; Mk 16,14; Lk 24,11) 42 Aber noch während er herbeikam, warf ihn der Dämon nieder und zerrte ihn zusammen. Jesus aber bedrohte den unreinen Geist und heilte den Jungen und gab ihn seinem Vater zurück. 43 Sie erstaunten aber alle sehr über die herrliche Größe Gottes. Als sich aber alle verwunderten über alles, was er tat, sprach er zu seinen Jüngern: (Mt 17,22; Mk 5,42; Mk 9,30; Lk 8,25) 44 Nehmt ihr diese Worte in eure Ohren, nämlich dass der Sohn des Menschen überliefert werden wird in die Hände der Menschen. (Lk 9,22) 45 Sie aber verstanden dieses Wort nicht, und es war vor ihnen verborgen, dass sie es nicht begriffen; und sie fürchteten sich, ihn über dieses Wort zu fragen. (Mt 18,1; Mk 9,33; Lk 2,50) 46 Es stieg aber unter ihnen eine Überlegung auf, wer wohl der Größte unter ihnen sei. (Lk 22,24) 47 Als Jesus aber die Überlegung ihres Herzens erkannte, nahm er ein Kind und stellte es neben sich (Lk 5,22) 48 und sprach zu ihnen: Wer dieses Kind aufnehmen wird in meinem Namen, nimmt mich auf, und wer mich aufnehmen wird, nimmt den auf, der mich gesandt hat; denn wer der Kleinste ist unter euch allen, der ist groß. (Lk 10,16; Lk 22,26; Joh 13,20) 49 Johannes aber antwortete und sprach: Meister, wir sahen jemand Dämonen austreiben in deinem Namen, und wir wehrten ihm, weil er ⟨dir⟩ nicht mit uns nachfolgt. 50 Und Jesus sprach zu ihm: Wehrt nicht! Denn wer nicht gegen euch ist, ist für euch. (Lk 11,23) 51 Es geschah aber, als sich die Tage seiner Aufnahme erfüllten, da richtete er sein Angesicht fest darauf, nach Jerusalem zu gehen. (Mt 16,21; Mk 10,32; Lk 9,31; Lk 13,22; Lk 17,11; Lk 18,31; Lk 19,28) 52 Und er sandte Boten vor seinem Angesicht her; und sie gingen hin und kamen in ein Dorf der Samaritaner, um für ihn ⟨Unterkunft⟩ zu bereiten. (Lk 10,1) 53 Und sie nahmen ihn nicht auf, weil er entschlossen war, nach Jerusalem zu gehen[12]. (Joh 4,9) 54 Als aber seine Jünger Jakobus und Johannes das sahen, sprachen sie: Herr, willst du, dass wir sagen, dass Feuer vom Himmel herabfallen und sie verzehren soll[13]? (Mk 3,17) 55 Er wandte sich aber um und schalt sie.[14] 56 Und sie gingen nach einem anderen Dorf. (Mt 8,18) 57 Es geschah aber, als sie auf dem Weg dahinzogen, sprach einer zu ihm: Ich will dir nachfolgen, wohin du auch gehst, Herr. 58 Und Jesus sprach zu ihm: Die Füchse haben Höhlen und die Vögel des Himmels Nester; aber der Sohn des Menschen hat nicht, wo er sein Haupt hinlegt. (Lk 2,7) 59 Er sprach aber zu einem anderen: Folge mir nach! Der aber sprach: Herr, erlaube mir, vorher hinzugehen und meinen Vater zu begraben. (Lk 5,27) 60 Jesus aber sprach zu ihm: Lass die Toten ihre Toten begraben, du aber geh hin und verkündige das Reich[15] Gottes! 61 Es sprach aber auch ein anderer: Ich will dir nachfolgen, Herr; vorher aber erlaube mir, Abschied zu nehmen von denen, die in meinem Hause sind. (1Kön 19,20) 62 Jesus aber sprach zu ihm: Niemand, der seine Hand an den Pflug gelegt hat und zurückblickt, ist tauglich für das Reich[16] Gottes. (Mt 10,5; Mk 6,7; Phil 3,13; Hebr 10,38)

1 And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, (Mt 10,1; Mk 3,13; Mk 6,7) 2 and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal. (Mt 10,5; Mt 10,7; Lk 4,43; Lk 9,11; Lk 9,60; Lk 10,1; Lk 10,9) 3 And he said to them, “Take nothing for your journey, no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not have two tunics.[1] (Mt 10,9; Mk 6,8; Lk 10,4; Lk 22,35) 4 And whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart. 5 And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them.” (Neh 5,13; Mk 1,44; Apg 13,51; Apg 18,6; Jak 5,3) 6 And they departed and went through the villages, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere. 1 Habiendo reunido a los doce, Jesús les dio poder y autoridad para expulsar a todos los demonios y para sanar enfermedades. 2 Entonces los envió a predicar el reino de Dios y a sanar a los enfermos. 3 «No lleven nada para el camino: ni bastón, ni bolsa, ni pan, ni dinero, ni dos mudas de ropa —les dijo—. 4 En cualquier casa que entren, quédense allí hasta que salgan del pueblo. 5 Si no los reciben bien, al salir de ese pueblo, sacúdanse el polvo de los pies como un testimonio contra sus habitantes.» 6 Así que partieron y fueron por todas partes de pueblo en pueblo, predicando el evangelio y sanando a la gente. 7 Herodes el tetrarca se enteró de todo lo que estaba sucediendo. También sanó a los que lo necesitaban. 12 Al atardecer se le acercaron los doce y le dijeron: —Despide a la gente, para que vaya a buscar alojamiento y comida en los campos y pueblos cercanos, pues donde estamos no hay nada.[1] 13 —Denles ustedes mismos de comer —les dijo Jesús. —No tenemos más que cinco panes y dos pescados, a menos que vayamos a comprar comida para toda esta gente —objetaron ellos, 14 porque había allí unos cinco mil hombres. Pero Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: —Hagan que se sienten en grupos como de cincuenta cada uno. 15 Así lo hicieron los discípulos, y se sentaron todos. 16 Entonces Jesús tomó los cinco panes y los dos pescados, y mirando al cielo, los bendijo. Luego los partió y se los dio a los discípulos para que se los repartieran a la gente. 17 Todos comieron hasta quedar satisfechos, y de los pedazos que sobraron se recogieron doce canastas. 18 Un día cuando Jesús estaba orando para sí, estando allí sus discípulos, les preguntó: —¿Quién dice la gente que soy yo? 19 —Unos dicen que Juan el Bautista, otros que Elías, y otros que uno de los antiguos profetas ha resucitado —respondieron. 20 —Y ustedes, ¿quién dicen que soy yo? —El Cristo de Dios —afirmó Pedro. 21 Jesús les ordenó terminantemente que no dijeran esto a nadie. Y les dijo: 22 —El Hijo del hombre tiene que sufrir muchas cosas y ser rechazado por los ancianos, los jefes de los sacerdotes y los maestros de la ley. Es necesario que lo maten y que resucite al tercer día. 23 Dirigiéndose a todos, declaró: —Si alguien quiere ser mi discípulo, que se niegue a sí mismo, lleve su cruz cada día y me siga. 24 Porque el que quiera salvar su vida, la perderá; pero el que pierda su vida por mi causa, la salvará. 25 ¿De qué le sirve a uno ganar el mundo entero si se pierde o se destruye a sí mismo? 26 Si alguien se avergüenza de mí y de mis palabras, el Hijo del hombre se avergonzará de él cuando venga en su gloria y en la gloria del Padre y de los santos ángeles. 27 Además, les aseguro que algunos de los aquí presentes no sufrirán la muerte sin antes haber visto el reino de Dios. 28 Unos ocho días después de decir esto, Jesús, acompañado de Pedro, Juan y Jacobo, subió a una montaña a orar. 29 Mientras oraba, su rostro se transformó, y su ropa se tornó blanca y radiante. 30 Y aparecieron dos personajes —Moisés y Elías— que conversaban con Jesús. 31 Tenían un aspecto glorioso, y hablaban de la partida[2] de Jesús, que él estaba por llevar a cabo en Jerusalén. 32 Pedro y sus compañeros estaban rendidos de sueño, pero cuando se despabilaron, vieron su gloria y a los dos personajes que estaban con él. 33 Mientras éstos se apartaban de Jesús, Pedro, sin saber lo que estaba diciendo, propuso: —Maestro, ¡qué bien que estemos aquí! Podemos levantar tres albergues: uno para ti, otro para Moisés y otro para Elías. 34 Estaba hablando todavía cuando apareció una nube que los envolvió, de modo que se asustaron. 35 Entonces salió de la nube una voz que dijo: «Éste es mi Hijo, mi escogido; escúchenlo.» 36 Después de oírse la voz, Jesús quedó solo. Los discípulos guardaron esto en secreto, y por algún tiempo a nadie contaron nada de lo que habían visto. 37 Al día siguiente, cuando bajaron de la montaña, le salió al encuentro mucha gente. 38 Y un hombre de entre la multitud exclamó: —Maestro, te ruego que atiendas a mi hijo, pues es el único que tengo. 39 Resulta que un espíritu se posesiona de él, y de repente el muchacho se pone a gritar; también lo sacude con violencia y hace que eche espumarajos. Cuando lo atormenta, a duras penas lo suelta. 40 Ya les rogué a tus discípulos que lo expulsaran, pero no pudieron. 41 —¡Ah, generación incrédula y perversa! —respondió Jesús—. ¿Hasta cuándo tendré que estar con ustedes y soportarlos? Trae acá a tu hijo. 42 Estaba acercándose el muchacho cuando el demonio lo derribó con una convulsión. Pero Jesús reprendió al espíritu maligno, sanó al muchacho y se lo devolvió al padre. 43 Y todos se quedaron asombrados de la grandeza de Dios. En medio de tanta admiración por todo lo que hacía, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: 44 —Presten mucha atención a lo que les voy a decir: El Hijo del hombre va a ser entregado en manos de los hombres. 45 Pero ellos no entendían lo que quería decir con esto. Les estaba encubierto para que no lo comprendieran, y no se atrevían a preguntárselo. 46 Surgió entre los discípulos una discusión sobre quién de ellos sería el más importante. 47 Como Jesús sabía bien lo que pensaban, tomó a un niño y lo puso a su lado. 48 —El que recibe en mi nombre a este niño —les dijo—, me recibe a mí; y el que me recibe a mí, recibe al que me envió. El que es más insignificante entre todos ustedes, ése es el más importante. 49 —Maestro —intervino Juan—, vimos a un hombre que expulsaba demonios en tu nombre; pero como no anda con nosotros, tratamos de impedírselo. 50 —No se lo impidan —les replicó Jesús—, porque el que no está contra ustedes está a favor de ustedes. 51 Como se acercaba el tiempo de que fuera llevado al cielo, Jesús se hizo el firme propósito de ir a Jerusalén. 52 Envió por delante mensajeros, que entraron en un pueblo samaritano para prepararle alojamiento; 53 pero allí la gente no quiso recibirlo porque se dirigía a Jerusalén. 54 Cuando los discípulos Jacobo y Juan vieron esto, le preguntaron: —Señor, ¿quieres que hagamos caer fuego del cielo para[3]que los destruya? 55 Pero Jesús se volvió a ellos y los reprendió. 56 Luego[4] siguieron la jornada a otra aldea. 57 Iban por el camino cuando alguien le dijo: —Te seguiré a dondequiera que vayas. 58 —Las zorras tienen madrigueras y las aves tienen nidos —le respondió Jesús—, pero el Hijo del hombre no tiene dónde recostar la cabeza. 59 A otro le dijo: —Sígueme. —Señor —le contestó—, primero déjame ir a enterrar a mi padre. 60 —Deja que los muertos entierren a sus propios muertos, pero tú ve y proclama el reino de Dios —le replicó Jesús. 61 Otro afirmó: —Te seguiré, Señor; pero primero déjame despedirme de mi familia. 62 Jesús le respondió: —Nadie que mire atrás después de poner la mano en el arado es apto para el reino de Dios.

1 Gesù, convocati i dodici, diede loro potere e autorità su tutti i demòni e di guarire le malattie. 2 Li mandò ad annunciare il regno di Dio e a guarire {i malati}. 3 E disse loro: «Non prendete nulla per il viaggio: né bastone, né sacca, né pane, né denaro, e non abbiate tunica di ricambio. 4 In qualunque casa entrerete, rimanete lì e da lì ripartite. 5 Quanto a quelli che non vi riceveranno, uscendo da quella città, scuotete la polvere dai vostri piedi[1], in testimonianza contro di loro». 6 Ed essi, partiti, andavano di villaggio in villaggio, evangelizzando e operando guarigioni dappertutto. 7 Erode il tetrarca udì parlare di tutti quei fatti; ne era perplesso, perché alcuni dicevano: «Giovanni è risuscitato dai morti», 8 altri dicevano: «È apparso Elia» e altri: «È risuscitato uno degli antichi profeti». 9 Ma Erode disse: «Giovanni l’ho fatto decapitare; chi è dunque costui del quale sento dire queste cose?» E cercava di vederlo. 10 Gli apostoli ritornarono e raccontarono a Gesù tutte le cose che avevano fatte; ed egli li prese con sé e si ritirò in disparte verso una città chiamata Betsàida. 11 Ma le folle, avendolo saputo, lo seguirono; ed egli li accolse e parlava loro del regno di Dio, e guariva quelli che avevano bisogno di guarigione. 12 Or il giorno cominciava a declinare; e i dodici, avvicinatisi, gli dissero: «Lascia andare la folla, perché se ne vada per i villaggi e per le campagne vicine per trovarvi cibo e alloggio, perché qui siamo in un luogo deserto». 13 Ma egli disse loro: «Date loro voi da mangiare». Ed essi obiettarono: «Noi non abbiamo altro che cinque pani e due pesci; a meno che non andiamo noi a comprare dei viveri per tutta questa gente». 14 Perché c’erano circa cinquemila uomini. Ed egli disse ai suoi discepoli: «Fateli sedere a gruppi di una cinquantina». 15 E così li fecero accomodare tutti. 16 Poi Gesù prese i cinque pani e i due pesci, alzò lo sguardo al cielo e li benedisse, li spezzò e li diede ai suoi discepoli perché li distribuissero alla gente. 17 Tutti mangiarono e furono saziati, e dei pezzi avanzati si portarono via dodici ceste. 18 Mentre egli stava pregando in disparte, i discepoli erano con lui; ed egli domandò loro: «Chi dice la gente che io sia?» 19 E quelli risposero: «Alcuni dicono Giovanni il battista; altri, Elia, e altri, uno dei profeti antichi che è risuscitato». 20 Ed egli disse loro: «E voi, chi dite che io sia?» Pietro rispose: «Il Cristo di Dio». 21 Ed egli ordinò loro di non dirlo a nessuno, e aggiunse: 22 «Bisogna che il Figlio dell’uomo soffra molte cose e sia respinto dagli anziani, dai capi dei sacerdoti e dagli scribi, sia ucciso e risusciti il terzo giorno». 23 Diceva poi a tutti: «Se uno vuol venire dietro a me, rinunci a se stesso, prenda ogni giorno la sua croce e mi segua. 24 Perché chi vorrà salvare la sua vita la perderà, ma chi avrà perduto la propria vita per causa mia la salverà. 25 Infatti, che serve all’uomo guadagnare tutto il mondo, se poi perde o rovina se stesso? 26 Perché se uno ha vergogna di me e delle mie parole, il Figlio dell’uomo avrà vergogna di lui, quando verrà nella gloria sua e del Padre e dei santi angeli. 27 Ora io vi dico in verità che alcuni di quelli che sono qui presenti non gusteranno la morte, finché non abbiano visto il regno di Dio». 28 Circa otto giorni dopo questi discorsi, Gesù prese con sé Pietro, Giovanni e Giacomo, e salì sul monte a pregare. 29 Mentre pregava, l’aspetto del suo volto fu mutato e la sua veste divenne di un candore sfolgorante. 30 Ed ecco, due uomini conversavano con lui: erano Mosè ed Elia, 31 i quali, apparsi in gloria, parlavano della sua dipartita che stava per compiersi in Gerusalemme. 32 Pietro e quelli che erano con lui erano oppressi dal sonno; e, quando si furono svegliati, videro la sua gloria e i due uomini che erano con lui. 33 Come questi si separavano da lui, Pietro disse a Gesù: «Maestro, è bene che stiamo qui; facciamo tre tende: una per te, una per Mosè e una per Elia». Egli non sapeva quello che diceva. 34 Mentre parlava così, venne una nuvola che li avvolse; e i discepoli temettero quando essi entrarono nella nuvola. 35 E una voce venne dalla nuvola, dicendo: «Questo è mio Figlio, colui che io ho scelto; ascoltatelo». 36 Mentre la voce parlava, Gesù si trovò solo. Ed essi tacquero e in quei giorni non riferirono nulla a nessuno di quello che avevano visto. 37 Il giorno seguente, quando essi scesero dal monte, una gran folla andò incontro a Gesù. 38 Un uomo dalla folla gridò: «Maestro, ti prego, volgi lo sguardo a mio figlio: è l’unico che io abbia. 39 Ecco, uno spirito si impadronisce di lui e subito egli grida; e lo spirito lo contorce, facendolo schiumare, e a fatica si allontana da lui, dopo averlo straziato. 40 Ho pregato i tuoi discepoli di scacciarlo, ma non hanno potuto». 41 Gesù rispose: «O generazione incredula e perversa, fino a quando sarò con voi e vi sopporterò? Porta qui tuo figlio». 42 Mentre il ragazzo si avvicinava, il demonio lo gettò per terra e cominciò a contorcerlo con le convulsioni; ma Gesù sgridò lo spirito immondo, guarì il ragazzo e lo rese a suo padre. 43 E tutti rimasero sbalorditi della grandezza di Dio. Mentre tutti si meravigliavano di tutte le cose che Gesù faceva, egli disse ai suoi discepoli: 44 «Voi, tenete bene in mente queste parole: il Figlio dell’uomo sta per essere consegnato nelle mani degli uomini». 45 Ma essi non capivano queste parole che erano per loro velate, così da risultare incomprensibili, e temevano di interrogarlo su quanto aveva detto. 46 Poi cominciarono a discutere su chi di loro fosse il più grande. 47 Ma Gesù, conosciuto il pensiero del loro cuore, prese un bambino, se lo pose accanto e disse loro: 48 «Chi riceve questo bambino nel nome mio, riceve me; e chi riceve me, riceve Colui che mi ha mandato. Perché chi è il più piccolo tra tutti voi, quello è grande». 49 Allora Giovanni disse: «Maestro, noi abbiamo visto un tale che scacciava demòni nel tuo nome, e glielo abbiamo vietato perché non ti segue con noi». 50 Ma Gesù gli disse: «Non glielo vietate, perché chi non è contro di voi è per voi». 51 Poi, mentre si avvicinava il tempo in cui sarebbe stato tolto dal mondo, Gesù si mise risolutamente in cammino per andare a Gerusalemme. 52 Mandò davanti a sé dei messaggeri, i quali, partiti, entrarono in un villaggio dei Samaritani per preparargli un alloggio. 53 Ma quelli non lo ricevettero perché era diretto verso Gerusalemme[2]. 54 Veduto ciò, i suoi discepoli Giacomo e Giovanni dissero: «Signore, vuoi che diciamo che un fuoco scenda dal cielo e li consumi?» 55 Ma egli si voltò verso di loro e li sgridò. 56 E se ne andarono in un altro villaggio. 57 Mentre camminavano per la via, qualcuno gli disse: «Io ti seguirò dovunque andrai». 58 E Gesù gli rispose: «Le volpi hanno delle tane e gli uccelli del cielo dei nidi, ma il Figlio dell’uomo non ha dove posare il capo». 59 A un altro disse: «Seguimi». Ed egli rispose: «{Signore,} permettimi di andare prima a seppellire mio padre». 60 Ma egli gli disse: «Lascia che i morti seppelliscano i loro morti; ma tu va’ ad annunciare il regno di Dio». 61 Un altro ancora gli disse: «Ti seguirò, Signore, ma lasciami prima salutare quelli di casa mia». 62 Ma Gesù {gli disse}: «Nessuno che abbia messo la mano all’aratro e poi volga lo sguardo indietro è adatto per il regno di Dio».
