(1Thess 1,6)

1 Now there were in the church at Antioch prophets and teachers, Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger,[1] Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen a lifelong friend of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. (Lk 3,1; Apg 11,22; Apg 11,27; Apg 15,32; Apg 19,6; Apg 21,9; Apg 21,10; Röm 12,6; Röm 12,7; 1Kor 12,28; 1Kor 12,29)2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” (Apg 8,29; Apg 9,15; Apg 20,28; Röm 1,1; Gal 1,15)3 Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off. (Apg 6,6; Apg 14,26)4 So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus. (Apg 13,2; Apg 16,6; Apg 16,7)5 When they arrived at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. And they had John to assist them. (Mk 6,2; Apg 9,20; Apg 12,12; Apg 13,14; Apg 13,46; Apg 14,1; Apg 17,1; Apg 17,2; Apg 17,10; Apg 17,17; Apg 18,4; Apg 18,19; Apg 19,8; Apg 19,22)6 When they had gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they came upon a certain magician, a Jewish false prophet named Bar-Jesus. (Mt 7,15; Apg 8,9; Apg 8,11)7 He was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of intelligence, who summoned Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God. (Apg 13,8; Apg 18,12; Apg 19,38)8 But Elymas the magician (for that is the meaning of his name) opposed them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith. (2Mo 7,11; Apg 13,6; Apg 13,7; 2Tim 3,8)9 But Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him (Apg 4,8)10 and said, “You son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, full of all deceit and villainy, will you not stop making crooked the straight paths of the Lord? (Hos 14,9; Mi 3,9; Mt 13,38; Apg 18,14; Apg 18,25; Apg 18,26; 2Petr 2,15)11 And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and unable to see the sun for a time.” Immediately mist and darkness fell upon him, and he went about seeking people to lead him by the hand. (2Mo 9,3; 1Sam 5,6; 1Sam 5,7; 1Sam 5,11; Ps 32,4; Apg 9,8; Apg 11,21; Apg 22,11; Hebr 10,31; 1Petr 5,6)12 Then the proconsul believed, when he saw what had occurred, for he was astonished at the teaching of the Lord. (Apg 15,35)13 Now Paul and his companions set sail from Paphos and came to Perga in Pamphylia. And John left them and returned to Jerusalem, (Apg 12,12; Apg 13,5)14 but they went on from Perga and came to Antioch in Pisidia. And on the Sabbath day they went into the synagogue and sat down. (Apg 5,1; Apg 13,42; Apg 16,13; Apg 17,2; Apg 18,4)15 After the reading from the Law and the Prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent a message to them, saying, “Brothers, if you have any word of encouragement for the people, say it.” (Mk 5,22; Lk 16,16; Apg 15,21; Hebr 13,22)16 So Paul stood up, and motioning with his hand said: “Men of Israel and you who fear God, listen. (Apg 10,2; Apg 10,22; Apg 12,17; Apg 13,26)17 The God of this people Israel chose our fathers and made the people great during their stay in the land of Egypt, and with uplifted arm he led them out of it. (2Mo 1,1; 2Mo 1,7; 2Mo 1,12; 2Mo 6,6; 2Mo 13,14; 2Mo 13,16; 4Mo 24,7; 5Mo 7,6; Ps 105,23; Ps 105,24; Mt 15,31; Apg 7,17)18 And for about forty years he put up with[2] them in the wilderness. (5Mo 9,5; Apg 7,36)19 And after destroying seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land as an inheritance. (5Mo 7,1; Jos 14,1; Jos 14,2; Jos 19,51; Ps 78,55; Ps 136,21; Ps 136,22; Apg 7,45)20 All this took about 450 years. And after that he gave them judges until Samuel the prophet. (Ri 2,16; Ri 3,9; Apg 3,24)21 Then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years. (1Sam 8,5; 1Sam 9,1; 1Sam 9,2; 1Sam 10,1)22 And when he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king, of whom he testified and said, ‘I have found in David the son of Jesse a man after my heart, who will do all my will.’ (1Sam 13,14; 1Sam 15,23; 1Sam 15,26; 1Sam 15,28; 1Sam 16,1; 1Sam 16,13; 2Sam 2,4; 2Sam 5,3; Ps 89,20; Hos 13,11; Apg 7,46; Apg 13,36)23 Of this man’s offspring God has brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus, as he promised. (Ps 132,11; Mt 1,1; Lk 2,11; Apg 13,32)24 Before his coming, John had proclaimed a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. (Mt 3,1; Mt 3,11; Mk 1,4; Lk 2,38; Lk 3,3; Apg 1,22; Apg 19,4)25 And as John was finishing his course, he said, ‘What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. No, but behold, after me one is coming, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’ (Mt 3,11; Mk 1,7; Lk 3,16; Joh 1,20; Joh 1,27)26 “Brothers, sons of the family of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, to us has been sent the message of this salvation. (Apg 4,12; Apg 5,20; Apg 10,36; Apg 13,16; Eph 1,13)27 For those who live in Jerusalem and their rulers, because they did not recognize him nor understand the utterances of the prophets, which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him. (Lk 24,20; Lk 24,26; Lk 24,27; Lk 24,44; Apg 13,15; Apg 15,21; 2Kor 3,14; 2Kor 3,15; 2Kor 3,17)28 And though they found in him no guilt worthy of death, they asked Pilate to have him executed. (Mk 14,55; Lk 23,22; Lk 23,23; Apg 2,23; Apg 3,14; Apg 3,15)29 And when they had carried out all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb. (Mt 27,59; Mt 27,60; Mk 15,46; Lk 18,31; Lk 23,53; Lk 24,44; Joh 19,28; Joh 19,30; Joh 19,36; Joh 19,37; Joh 19,38; Joh 19,41; Joh 19,42; Apg 5,30)30 But God raised him from the dead, (Apg 2,24)31 and for many days he appeared to those who had come up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are now his witnesses to the people. (Mk 15,41; Lk 24,48; Apg 1,3; Apg 1,8; Apg 1,11; Apg 2,7)32 And we bring you the good news that what God promised to the fathers, (Apg 26,6; Röm 4,13; Röm 9,4; Röm 15,8; Gal 3,16)33 this he has fulfilled to us their children by raising Jesus, as also it is written in the second Psalm, “‘You are my Son, today I have begotten you.’ (Ps 2,7; Lk 1,69; Hebr 1,5; Hebr 5,5)34 And as for the fact that he raised him from the dead, no more to return to corruption, he has spoken in this way, “‘I will give you the holy and sure blessings of David.’ (Jes 55,3; Apg 13,35; Röm 6,9; Hebr 9,25)35 Therefore he says also in another psalm, “‘You will not let your Holy One see corruption.’ (Ps 16,10; Apg 2,27)36 For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep and was laid with his fathers and saw corruption, (Ri 2,10; 2Sam 7,12; 1Kön 2,10; 1Kön 2,29; Apg 13,22; Apg 20,27)37 but he whom God raised up did not see corruption. (Apg 13,30)38 Let it be known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, (Lk 24,47; Apg 5,31; 1Joh 2,12)39 and by him everyone who believes is freed[3] from everything from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses. (Apg 10,43; Röm 2,13; Röm 3,20; Röm 3,28; Röm 8,3; Gal 2,16; Gal 3,11; Eph 2,9; 2Tim 1,9; Tit 3,5; Hebr 7,19)40 Beware, therefore, lest what is said in the Prophets should come about:41 “‘Look, you scoffers, be astounded and perish; for I am doing a work in your days, a work that you will not believe, even if one tells it to you.’” (Jes 29,14; Hab 1,5)42 As they went out, the people begged that these things might be told them the next Sabbath.43 And after the meeting of the synagogue broke up, many Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who, as they spoke with them, urged them to continue in the grace of God. (Mt 23,15; Apg 2,11; Apg 6,5; Apg 11,23; Apg 13,50; Apg 16,14; Apg 17,4; Apg 17,17; Jud 1,4; Jud 1,21)44 The next Sabbath almost the whole city gathered to hear the word of the Lord.45 But when the Jews[4] saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and began to contradict what was spoken by Paul, reviling him. (Apg 5,17; Apg 18,6; Apg 19,9; Apg 26,11; 1Thess 2,16; 1Tim 1,20)46 And Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, saying, “It was necessary that the word of God be spoken first to you. Since you thrust it aside and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we are turning to the Gentiles. (Mt 21,43; Mt 22,8; Apg 3,26; Apg 9,15; Apg 13,5; Apg 18,6; Apg 22,21; Apg 26,17; Apg 26,18; Apg 26,20; Apg 28,28)47 For so the Lord has commanded us, saying, “‘I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’” (Jes 42,6; Jes 45,22; Jes 49,6; Lk 2,32; Apg 1,8; Apg 11,18)48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord, and as many as were appointed to eternal life believed. (2Thess 1,12)49 And the word of the Lord was spreading throughout the whole region.50 But the Jews incited the devout women of high standing and the leading men of the city, stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and drove them out of their district. (Apg 14,2; Apg 14,19; Apg 17,5; Apg 17,12; Apg 17,13; Apg 18,12; Apg 20,3; Apg 20,19; Apg 21,27; 1Thess 2,15; 2Tim 3,11)51 But they shook off the dust from their feet against them and went to Iconium. (Mt 10,14; Mk 6,11; Lk 9,5; Lk 18,6)52 And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit. (Apg 2,4; 1Thess 1,6)

Apostelgeschichte 13

King James Version

1 Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.3 And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.4 So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus.5 And when they were at Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews: and they had also John to their minister.6 And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Bar-jesus:7 Which was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God.8 But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith.9 Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him,10 And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?11 And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.12 Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.13 Now when Paul and his company loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem.14 But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.15 And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.16 Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, give audience.17 The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm brought he them out of it.18 And about the time of forty years suffered he their manners in the wilderness.19 And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Chanaan, he divided their land to them by lot.20 And after that he gave unto them judges about the space of four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet.21 And afterward they desired a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by the space of forty years.22 And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.23 Of this man's seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:24 When John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.25 And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am not he. But, behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.26 Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.27 For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him.28 And though they found no cause of death in him, yet desired they Pilate that he should be slain.29 And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre.30 But God raised him from the dead:31 And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people.32 And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers,33 God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.34 And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David.35 Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.36 For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:37 But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.38 Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:39 And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.40 Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the prophets;41 Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you.42 And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.43 Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.44 And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.45 But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming.46 Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.47 For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.49 And the word of the Lord was published throughout all the region.50 But the Jews stirred up the devout and honourable women, and the chief men of the city, and raised persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them out of their coasts.51 But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came unto Iconium.52 And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost.
