— Doufat v Boha, ne v člověka - Zatvrzelost Judejců. Kdo spoléhají na Boha, jsou požehnaní. Osobní Jeremjášovo vyznání víry v Boha.
1 Judův hřích je zapsán železným rydlem, je vyryt diamantovým hrotem na tabulku jejich srdcí, na rohy vašich oltářů. 2 I jejich synové si připomínají jejich oltáře a posvátné kůly u zelených stromů na vysokých pahorcích. 3 „Horo má v poli, vydám v plen tvé zboží, všechny tvé poklady, tvá posvátná návrší pro hřích páchaný po celém tvém území. 4 Budeš muset uvolnit své dědictví, které jsem ti dal. Dám tě tvým nepřátelům do otroctví v zemi, kterou neznáš. Zanítili jste oheň mého hněvu, navěky bude hořet.“ 5 Toto praví Hospodin: „Proklet buď muž, který doufá v člověka, opírá se o pouhé tělo a srdcem se odvrací od Hospodina. 6 Bude jako jalovec v pustině, který neokusí přicházející dobro. Bude přebývat ve vyprahlém kraji, v poušti, v zemi solných plání, kde nelze bydlet. 7 Požehnán buď muž, který doufá v Hospodina, který důvěřuje Hospodinu. 8 Bude jako strom zasazený u vody; své kořeny zapustil u vodního toku, nezakusí přicházející žár. Jeho listí je zelené, v roce sucha se ničeho neobává, nepřestává nést plody.“ 9 „Nejúskočnější ze všeho je srdce a nevyléčitelné. Kdopak je zná? 10 Já Hospodin zpytuji srdce a zkoumám ledví, já každému splatím podle jeho cesty, podle ovoce jeho skutků.“ 11 Koroptev sedí na vejcích, ale mladé nevyvede. Tak ten, kdo nabude bohatství nespravedlivě, v půlce života je opustí a skončí jako bloud. 12 Trůne slávy, od počátku vyvýšený, místo naší svatyně, 13 naděje Izraele, Hospodine, všichni, kdo tě opouštějí, propadnou hanbě. Ti, kdo se ode mne odvracejí, jsou zapsáni v zemi stínů, protože opustili zdroj živých vod, Hospodina. 14 Uzdrav mě, Hospodine, a budu zdráv, spas mě a budu spasen, neboť ty jsi můj chvalozpěv. 15 Hle, oni mi říkají: „Kde je Hospodinovo slovo? Ať se přece splní!“ 16 Nedral jsem se o to být tvým pastýřem, netoužil jsem po dnu zkázy. Ty víš, co vyšlo z mých rtů; je to přímo před tebou. 17 Nebuď mi tím, kdo děsí. Tys mé útočiště ve zlý den. 18 Ať propadnou hanbě ti, kdo mě pronásledují, a já ať se hanbit nemusím. Ať oni jsou zděšeni, a já ať zděšen nejsem. Uveď na ně zlý den a dvojnásob těžkou ranou je rozdrť!
— Světit den odpočinku - Prorok vyzývá lid k plnění Božích požadavků týkajících se dne odpočinku.
19 Toto mi praví Hospodin: „Jdi a postav se v bráně synů mého lidu, jíž vcházejí a vycházejí judští králové, a ve všech jeruzalémských branách.20 Řekni jim: Judští králové, celé Judsko a všichni obyvatelé Jeruzaléma, kteří vcházíte těmito branami, slyšte slovo Hospodinovo: 21 Toto praví Hospodin: Bedlivě dbejte, abyste nenosili břemena v den odpočinku a nepřinášeli je do jeruzalémských bran.22 Nevynášejte břemena ze svých domů v den odpočinku a nevykonávejte žádnou práci, ale ať je vám den odpočinku svatý, jak jsem přikázal vašim otcům.23 Ale neposlechli a ucho nenaklonili, nýbrž zůstali tvrdošíjní, neslyšeli a nepřijali napomenutí.24 Budete-li mě opravdu poslouchat, je výrok Hospodinův, a v den odpočinku nebudete přinášet břemena do bran tohoto města, ale bude vám den odpočinku svatý a nebudete v něm konat žádnou práci,25 budou vcházet branami tohoto města králové a velmožové, kteří dosednou na Davidův trůn, budou jezdit na voze a na koních, oni i jejich velmožové, muži judští a obyvatelé Jeruzaléma, a toto město bude trvat navěky.26 Z judských měst a z okolí Jeruzaléma, ze země Benjamínovy, z Přímořské nížiny, z pohoří, z Negebu přijdou a přinesou do Hospodinova domu oběť zápalnou, obětní hod i oběť přídavnou a kadidlo, přinesou i oběť děkovnou.27 Nebudete-li mě poslouchat a den odpočinku vám nebude svatý, ale budete-li v den odpočinku nosit břemena a vcházet s nimi do jeruzalémských bran, zanítím v jeho branách oheň a ten pozře jeruzalémské paláce a neuhasne.“

Jeremiah Prays for Deliverance

Keep the Sabbath Holy
19Thus said the Lord to me: “Go and stand in the People’s Gate, by which the kings of Judah enter and by which they go out, and in all the gates of Jerusalem, (Jr 13,13)20and say: ‘Hear the word of the Lord, you kings of Judah, and all Judah, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, who enter by these gates. (Jr 17,19)21Thus says the Lord: Take care for the sake of your lives, and do not bear a burden on the Sabbath day or bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem. (Neh 13,15; J 5,10)22And do not carry a burden out of your houses on the Sabbath or do any work, but keep the Sabbath day holy, as I commanded your fathers.
