1 Hospodine, proč jen stojíš v dáli, v dobách soužení se skrýváš? 2 Ponížený je pro zpupnost svévolníka v jednom ohni. Ať se zapletou v těch piklech, které vymýšlejí! 3 Když svévolník chválí, pak jen pro své choutky, když chamtivec dobrořečí, znevažuje Hospodina. (Nún) 4 Svévolník ve zpupném hněvu říká: „Bůh nic nevypátrá, Bůh tu není.“ Odtud všechny jeho pikle. 5 Úspěšné jsou jeho cesty v každé době, vysoko jsou od něho tvé soudy, soptí proti všem svým protivníkům. 6 Říkává si v srdci: „Mnou nic neotřese. Z pokolení do pokolení mě nepotká nic zlého.“ (Pé) 7 V ústech má jen samou kletbu, lest a útisk, na jazyku trápení a ničemnosti. 8 Na nádvořích číhá na čekané, v skrýších vraždí nevinného, (Ajin) jeho oči pasou po bezbranném. 9 Číhá v úkrytu jak v houští lev, číhá na poníženého, aby se ho zmocnil, zmocnil se ho, do sítě ho vtáhl. 10 Plíží se a krčí a bezbranní upadají do jeho spárů. 11 Říkává si v srdci: „Bůh vše zapomíná, skryl svou tvář, nikdy nic neuvidí.“ (Kóf) 12 Povstaň, Hospodine Bože, pozvedni svou ruku, nezapomeň na ponižované! 13 Smí svévolník znevažovat Boha, říkat si v srdci: „Ty nic nevypátráš?“ (Réš) 14 Ty však vidíš trápení a hoře. Shlédneš a vše vezmeš do svých rukou. Bezbranný se spoléhá na tebe, sirotkovi poskytuješ pomoc. (Šín) 15 Přeraz paži svévolníka, paži zlého. Jeho svévoli vypátráš, nic ti neunikne. 16 Hospodin je Králem navěky a navždy, pronárody zmizí z jeho země. (Táv) 17 Tužbu pokorných vyslýcháš, Hospodine, jejich srdce posiluješ, máš pozorné ucho, 18 zjednáš právo sirotkovi, právo zdeptanému; člověk na zemi už nebude vzbuzovat strach.
