1 Ahora bien, había en la iglesia que está en Antioquía, profetas y maestros: Bernabé, Simón (llamado Negro), Lucio (el cireneo), Manaén (colactáneo de Herodes el tetrarca), y Saulo. 2 Estando éstos ministrando al Señor y ayunando, dijo el Espíritu Santo: Apartadme a Bernabé y a Saulo para la obra a la que los he llamado. 3 Y habiendo ayunado y orado, les impusieron las manos y los dejaron marchar. 4 Así que ellos, enviados por el Santo Espíritu, bajaron a Seleucia, y de allí navegaron a Chipre. 5 Llegando a Salamina, proclamaron la palabra de Dios en las sinagogas de los judíos, teniendo a Juan como ayudante. 6 Y atravesando toda la isla hasta Pafos, hallaron a cierto judío, mago y falso profeta, que respondía al nombre de Barjesús, 7 el cual estaba con el procónsul Sergio Paulo, varón inteligente. Éste, llamando a Bernabé y a Saulo, deseaba oír la palabra de Dios, 8 pero se les oponía el mago Elimas (pues así se traduce su nombre), intentando apartar de la fe al procónsul. 9 Entonces Saulo (que también es Pablo), lleno del Espíritu Santo, fijando los ojos en él, 10 dijo: ¡Oh, lleno de todo engaño y de toda maldad, hijo del diablo, enemigo de toda justicia! ¿no cesarás de trastornar los caminos rectos del Señor? 11 ¡He aquí la mano del Señor ahora contra ti, y estarás ciego, y no verás la luz del sol por un tiempo! Y al instante cayeron sobre él tinieblas y oscuridad; y daba vueltas buscando lazarillos. 12 Viendo lo sucedido, el procónsul creyó, maravillado a causa de la doctrina del Señor. 13 Después de zarpar de Pafos, Pablo y sus compañeros fueron a Perge de Panfilia; pero Juan se alejó de ellos y regresó a Jerusalem. 14 Ellos, pasando de Perge, llegaron a Antioquía (la de Pisidia), y entrando a la sinagoga en el día de sábado, se sentaron. 15 Después de la lectura de la ley y los profetas, los principales de la sinagoga se dirigieron a ellos, diciendo: Varones hermanos, si tenéis alguna palabra de exhortación para el pueblo, hablad. 16 Entonces Pablo se levantó y haciendo señal de silencio con la mano, dijo: Varones israelitas, y los que teméis a Dios, oíd: 17 El Dios de este pueblo de Israel escogió a nuestros padres, y enalteció al pueblo, durante la permanencia en tierra de Egipto, y con brazo levantado los sacó de ella, 18 y como por un tiempo de cuarenta años los soportó en el desierto; 19 y habiendo destruido siete naciones en tierra de Canaán, dio en herencia la tierra de ellas 20 como por cuatrocientos cincuenta años. Después dio jueces hasta el profeta Samuel. 21 Y entonces pidieron rey, y Dios les dio a Saúl, hijo de Cis, un varón de la tribu de Benjamín, durante cuarenta años; 22 pero después de deponerlo, les levantó a David como rey, de quien dio también testimonio, diciendo: Hallé a David, el de Isaí, un varón conforme a mi corazón, el cual hará todos mis deseos. 23 De la simiente de éste, conforme a la promesa, Dios levantó a Jesús por Salvador para Israel, 24 después que Juan predicó, antes de su llegada, un bautismo de arrepentimiento a todo el pueblo de Israel. 25 Y cuando Juan terminaba la carrera, decía: ¿Qué pensáis que soy yo? No soy yo; sino que detrás de mí viene uno de quien no soy digno de desatar la sandalia de sus pies. 26 Varones hermanos, hijos del linaje de Abraham, y los que entre vosotros teméis a Dios: Para nosotros fue enviada la palabra de esta salvación. 27 Porque los que habitan en Jerusalem, y sus gobernantes, no reconociendo a éste, ni las voces de los profetas que se leen cada sábado, las cumplieron al condenarlo, 28 y no hallando causa alguna de muerte, pidieron a Pilato que lo matara. 29 Y cuando cumplieron todas las cosas que habían sido escritas acerca de Él, bajándolo del madero, lo pusieron en un sepulcro. 30 Pero Dios lo levantó de entre los muertos, 31 y se apareció durante muchos días a los que subieron juntamente con Él de Galilea a Jerusalem, los cuales son sus testigos ante el pueblo. 32 Nosotros también os traemos las buenas nuevas de la promesa que fue hecha a los padres, 33 pues Dios la ha cumplido a nosotros, sus hijos, resucitando a Jesús, como también está escrito en el salmo segundo: Mi hijo eres Tú, Yo te he engendrado hoy. 34 Y que lo levantó de entre los muertos, para nunca más volver a corrupción, lo ha dicho así: Os daré las misericordias y fieles promesas hechas a David. 35 Por lo cual dice también en otro salmo: No permitirás que tu Santo vea corrupción. 36 Porque David, ciertamente, habiendo servido al propósito de Dios en su propia generación, durmió, fue sepultado con sus padres y vio corrupción. 37 Pero Aquél a quien Dios levantó no vio corrupción. 38 Sea pues bien sabido, varones hermanos, que por medio de Éste os es anunciado el perdón de los pecados. De todas las cosas que no pudisteis ser justificados por la ley de Moisés, 39 gracias a Éste es justificado todo el que cree. 40 Cuidad pues, no sea que os sobrevenga lo dicho en los profetas: 41 Mirad menospreciadores, asombraos y desapareced; porque Yo hago una obra en vuestros días, una obra que de ningún modo creeríais, si alguien os la relatara. 42 Al salir ellos, les rogaban que en el sábado siguiente les hablaran las mismas palabras. 43 Y disuelta la reunión, muchos de los judíos y de los prosélitos que adoran a Dios siguieron a Pablo y a Bernabé, los cuales, hablando con ellos, los persuadían a permanecer fieles a la gracia de Dios. 44 El siguiente sábado se congregó casi toda la ciudad a oír la palabra del Señor. 45 Pero los judíos, viendo a las multitudes, se llenaron de envidia y blasfemando, contradecían las palabras que Pablo hablaba. 46 Así que Pablo y Bernabé, dijeron con todo denuedo: A vosotros primero era necesario que se hablara la palabra de Dios, pero ya que la rechazáis y no os consideráis dignos de la vida eterna, he aquí nos volvemos a los gentiles. 47 Porque así nos lo ha mandado el Señor: Te he puesto por luz de las naciones, a fin de que seas para salvación hasta lo último de la tierra. 48 Y los gentiles, al oírlo, se regocijaban y glorificaban la palabra del Señor. Y creyeron todos los que estaban destinados a la vida eterna, 49 y la palabra del Señor se difundía por toda la región. 50 Pero los judíos soliviantaron a distinguidas mujeres adoradoras de Dios, y a líderes de la ciudad, y provocaron una persecución contra Pablo y Bernabé, y los echaron de sus territorios. 51 Éstos entonces, sacudiendo el polvo de sus pies contra ellos, se fueron a Iconio. 52 Pero los discípulos quedaron llenos de gozo y del Espíritu Santo.

1 Now there were in the church at Antioch prophets and teachers, Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger,[1] Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen a lifelong friend of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. (Lc 3:1; Hch 11:22; Hch 11:27; Hch 15:32; Hch 19:6; Hch 21:9; Ro 12:6; 1 Co 12:28) 2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” (Hch 8:29; Hch 9:15; Hch 20:28; Ro 1:1; Gl 1:15) 3 Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off. (Hch 6:6; Hch 14:26) 4 So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus. (Hch 13:2; Hch 16:6) 5 When they arrived at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. And they had John to assist them. (Mt 7:15; Hch 8:9; Hch 8:11) 7 He was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of intelligence, who summoned Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God. (Hch 13:8; Hch 13:12; Hch 18:12; Hch 19:38) 8 But Elymas the magician (for that is the meaning of his name) opposed them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith. (Ex 7:11; Hch 13:6; Hch 13:7; Hch 13:12; 2 Ti 3:8) 9 But Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him (Hch 4:8) 10 and said, “You son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, full of all deceit and villainy, will you not stop making crooked the straight paths of the Lord? (Os 14:9; Miq 3:9; Mt 13:38; Hch 18:14; Hch 18:25; 2 P 2:15) 11 And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and unable to see the sun for a time.” Immediately mist and darkness fell upon him, and he went about seeking people to lead him by the hand. (Ex 9:3; 1 S 5:6; 1 S 5:11; Sal 32:4; Hch 9:8; Hch 11:21; Hch 22:11; Heb 10:31; 1 P 5:6) 12 Then the proconsul believed, when he saw what had occurred, for he was astonished at the teaching of the Lord. (Hch 13:49; Hch 15:35) 13 Now Paul and his companions set sail from Paphos and came to Perga in Pamphylia. And John left them and returned to Jerusalem, (Hch 12:12; Hch 13:5) 14 but they went on from Perga and came to Antioch in Pisidia. And on the Sabbath day they went into the synagogue and sat down. (Hch 13:5; Hch 13:42; Hch 13:44; Hch 16:13; Hch 17:2; Hch 18:4) 15 After the reading from the Law and the Prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent a message to them, saying, “Brothers, if you have any word of encouragement for the people, say it.” (Mr 5:22; Lc 16:16; Hch 15:21; Heb 13:22) 16 So Paul stood up, and motioning with his hand said: “Men of Israel and you who fear God, listen. (Hch 10:2; Hch 10:22; Hch 12:17; Hch 13:26) 17 The God of this people Israel chose our fathers and made the people great during their stay in the land of Egypt, and with uplifted arm he led them out of it. (Ex 1:1; Ex 1:7; Ex 1:12; Ex 6:6; Ex 13:14; Ex 13:16; Nm 24:7; Dt 7:6; Sal 105:23; Mt 15:31; Hch 7:17) 18 And for about forty years he put up with[2] them in the wilderness. (Dt 9:5; Hch 7:36) 19 And after destroying seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land as an inheritance. (Dt 7:1; Jos 14:1; Jos 19:51; Sal 78:55; Sal 136:21; Hch 7:45) 20 All this took about 450 years. And after that he gave them judges until Samuel the prophet. (Jue 2:16; Jue 3:9; Hch 3:24) 21 Then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years. (1 S 8:5; 1 S 9:1; 1 S 10:1) 22 And when he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king, of whom he testified and said, ‘I have found in David the son of Jesse a man after my heart, who will do all my will.’ (1 S 13:14; 1 S 15:23; 1 S 15:26; 1 S 15:28; 1 S 16:1; 1 S 16:13; 2 S 2:4; 2 S 5:3; Sal 89:20; Os 13:11; Hch 7:46; Hch 13:36) 23 Of this man’s offspring God has brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus, as he promised. (Sal 132:11; Mt 1:1; Lc 2:11; Hch 13:32) 24 Before his coming, John had proclaimed a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. (Mt 3:1; Mt 3:11; Mr 1:4; Lc 3:3; Hch 1:22; Hch 2:38; Hch 19:4) 25 And as John was finishing his course, he said, ‘What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. No, but behold, after me one is coming, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’ (Mt 3:11; Mr 1:7; Lc 3:16; Jn 1:20; Jn 1:27) 26 “Brothers, sons of the family of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, to us has been sent the message of this salvation. (Hch 4:12; Hch 5:20; Hch 10:36; Hch 13:16; Ef 1:13) 27 For those who live in Jerusalem and their rulers, because they did not recognize him nor understand the utterances of the prophets, which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him. (Lc 24:20; Lc 24:26; Lc 24:44; Hch 3:17; Hch 13:15; Hch 15:21; 2 Co 3:14) 28 And though they found in him no guilt worthy of death, they asked Pilate to have him executed. (Mr 15:41; Lc 24:48; Hch 1:3; Hch 1:8; Hch 1:11; Hch 2:7) 32 And we bring you the good news that what God promised to the fathers, (Hch 26:6; Ro 4:13; Ro 9:4; Ro 15:8; Gl 3:16) 33 this he has fulfilled to us their children by raising Jesus, as also it is written in the second Psalm, “‘You are my Son, today I have begotten you.’ (Sal 2:7; Lc 1:69; Hch 13:23; Heb 1:5; Heb 5:5) 34 And as for the fact that he raised him from the dead, no more to return to corruption, he has spoken in this way, “‘I will give you the holy and sure blessings of David.’ (Is 55:3; Hch 13:35; Ro 6:9; Heb 9:25) 35 Therefore he says also in another psalm, “‘You will not let your Holy One see corruption.’ (Sal 16:10; Hch 2:27) 36 For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep and was laid with his fathers and saw corruption, (Jue 2:10; 2 S 7:12; 1 R 2:10; Hch 2:29; Hch 13:22; Hch 20:27) 37 but he whom God raised up did not see corruption. (Hch 13:30) 38 Let it be known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, (Lc 24:47; Hch 5:31; 1 Jn 2:12) 39 and by him everyone who believes is freed[3] from everything from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses. (Hch 10:43; Ro 2:13; Ro 3:20; Ro 3:28; Ro 8:3; Gl 2:16; Gl 3:11; Ef 2:9; 2 Ti 1:9; Tit 3:5; Heb 7:19) 40 Beware, therefore, lest what is said in the Prophets should come about: 41 “‘Look, you scoffers, be astounded and perish; for I am doing a work in your days, a work that you will not believe, even if one tells it to you.’” (Is 29:14; Hab 1:5) 42 As they went out, the people begged that these things might be told them the next Sabbath. 43 And after the meeting of the synagogue broke up, many Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who, as they spoke with them, urged them to continue in the grace of God. (Mt 23:15; Hch 2:11; Hch 6:5; Hch 11:23; Hch 13:50; Hch 16:14; Hch 17:4; Hch 17:17; Jud 1:4; Jud 1:21) 44 The next Sabbath almost the whole city gathered to hear the word of the Lord. 45 But when the Jews[4] saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and began to contradict what was spoken by Paul, reviling him. (Hch 5:17; Hch 18:6; Hch 19:9; Hch 26:11; 1 Ts 2:16; 1 Ti 1:20) 46 And Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, saying, “It was necessary that the word of God be spoken first to you. Since you thrust it aside and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we are turning to the Gentiles. (Mt 21:43; Mt 22:8; Hch 3:26; Hch 9:15; Hch 13:5; Hch 13:14; Hch 18:6; Hch 22:21; Hch 26:17; Hch 26:20; Hch 28:28) 47 For so the Lord has commanded us, saying, “‘I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’” (Is 42:6; Is 45:22; Is 49:6; Lc 2:32; Hch 1:8; Hch 11:18; Hch 13:26) 48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord, and as many as were appointed to eternal life believed. (2 Ts 1:12) 49 And the word of the Lord was spreading throughout the whole region. 50 But the Jews incited the devout women of high standing and the leading men of the city, stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and drove them out of their district. (Hch 14:2; Hch 14:19; Hch 17:5; Hch 17:12; Hch 17:13; Hch 18:12; Hch 20:3; Hch 20:19; Hch 21:27; 1 Ts 2:15; 2 Ti 3:11) 51 But they shook off the dust from their feet against them and went to Iconium.
