1 Тогава Ефремовите синове казаха на Гедеон: Защо направи това? Защо не ни повика, когато отиде да воюваш против Мадиам? И се караха разпалено с него. (Съд 12:1; 2 Цар 19:41) 2 А той им отговори: Какво съм извършил аз сега в сравнение с вас? Ефремовите баберки не са ли по-добри от Авиезеровия гроздобер? 3 Във вашите ръце Бог предаде мадиамските началници Орив и Зив; а какво съм могъл аз да извърша в сравнение с вас? Тогава гневът им към него утихна, след като той каза това. (Съд 7:24; Съд 7:25; Пр 15:1; Фил 2:3) 4 Когато Гедеон дойде при Йордан, той премина с тристата мъже, които бяха с него. Въпреки че бяха уморени, те продължиха преследването. 5 Там Гедеон каза на жителите на Сокхот: Дайте няколко хляба на народа, който върви след мене, защото са изнемощели; аз гоня мадиамските царе Зевей и Салман. (Съд 4:6; Пс 89:12) 19 А Гедеон каза: Мои братя бяха, синовете на моята майка. Заклевам се в живота на ГОСПОДА, ако ги бяхте оставили живи, аз не бих ви убил. 20 И каза на първородния си син Йетер: Стани, убий ги. Но младежът не изтегли меча си, защото се боеше, понеже беше още млад. 21 Тогава Зевей и Салман казаха: Стани ти и ни нападни; защото според човека е и силата му. И така, Гедеон стана, уби Зевей и Салман и взе украшенията с форма на полумесец, които бяха на вратовете на камилите им. (Пс 83:11) 22 Тогава израилските мъже казаха на Гедеон: Владей над нас ти и синът ти, и внукът ти, защото ти ни освободи от ръката на Мадиам. 23 А Гедеон отговори: Нито аз ще владея над вас, нито синът ми ще владее над вас. ГОСПОД ще владее над вас. (1 Цар 8:7; 1 Цар 10:19; 1 Цар 12:12) 24 Гедеон обаче добави: Едно нещо ще поискам от вас – дайте ми всички обиците от плячката си. (Защото неприятелите, понеже бяха исмаиляни, носеха златни обици.) (Бит 25:13; Бит 37:25; Бит 37:28) 25 А те отговориха: Ще ги дадем. И като простряха една дреха на земята, всеки хвърляше обиците от плячката си. 26 И теглото на златните обици, които Гедеон си поиска, беше хиляда и седемстотин златни сикъла освен украшенията с форма на полумесец, огърлиците и моравите дрехи, които бяха върху мадиамските царе, и освен златните вериги, които бяха на вратовете на камилите им. 27 От тях Гедеон направи ефод, който постави в града си, в Офра. Там целият Израил блудстваше след ефода; и той стана примка на Гедеон и дома му. (Вт 7:16; Съд 6:24; Съд 17:5; Пс 106:39) 28 Така Мадиам беше покорен пред израилтяните и не повдигна повече глава. И земята беше спокойна четиридесет години в дните на Гедеон. (Съд 5:31) 29 Тогава Йероваал, Йоасовият син, отиде и заживя в дома си. 30 Гедеон имаше седемдесет синове, родени на самия него, защото имаше много жени. (Съд 9:2; Съд 9:5) 31 Също и наложницата му, която беше в Сихем, му роди син, когото той нарече Авимелех. (Съд 9:1) 32 И Гедеон, Йоасовият син, умря в дълбока старост и беше погребан в гроба на баща си Йоас, в Офра Авиезерова. (Бит 25:8; Съд 6:24; Съд 8:27; Йов 5:26) 33 А когато Гедеон умря, израилтяните пак се обърнаха и блудстваха след ваалимите, поставиха си Ваалверит за бог. (Съд 2:17; Съд 2:19; Съд 9:4; Съд 9:46) 34 И израилтяните не си спомниха за ГОСПОДА, своя Бог, Който ги беше избавил от всичките им околни неприятели. (Пс 78:11; Пс 78:42; Пс 106:13; Пс 106:21) 35 Нито пък показаха благост към дома на Йероваал (Гедеон) в съответствие с всички добрини, които той беше сторил на Израил. (Съд 9:16; Екл 9:14; Екл 9:15)

1 Then the men of Ephraim said to him, “What is this that you have done to us, not to call us when you went to fight against Midian?” And they accused him fiercely. (Съд 12:1; 2 Цар 19:41) 2 And he said to them, “What have I done now in comparison with you? Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the grape harvest of Abiezer? (Ис 24:13; Ер 49:9; Авд 1:5; Мих 7:1) 3 God has given into your hands the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb. What have I been able to do in comparison with you?” Then their anger[1] against him subsided when he said this. (Съд 7:24; Съд 7:25; Пр 15:1) 4 And Gideon came to the Jordan and crossed over, he and the 300 men who were with him, exhausted yet pursuing. (Пс 83:11) 13 Then Gideon the son of Joash returned from the battle by the ascent of Heres. 14 And he captured a young man of Succoth and questioned him. And he wrote down for him the officials and elders of Succoth, seventy-seven men. 15 And he came to the men of Succoth and said, “Behold Zebah and Zalmunna, about whom you taunted me, saying, ‘Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna already in your hand, that we should give bread to your men who are exhausted?’” (Съд 8:6) 16 And he took the elders of the city, and he took thorns of the wilderness and briers and with them taught the men of Succoth a lesson. 17 And he broke down the tower of Penuel and killed the men of the city. (Съд 6:32; Съд 7:1) 30 Now Gideon had seventy sons, his own offspring,[3] for he had many wives. (Съд 9:2; Съд 9:5) 31 And his concubine who was in Shechem also bore him a son, and he called his name Abimelech. (Съд 9:1; Съд 9:2) 32 And Gideon the son of Joash died in a good old age and was buried in the tomb of Joash his father, at Ophrah of the Abiezrites. (Бит 15:15; Бит 25:8; Съд 6:24; Йов 5:26) 33 As soon as Gideon died, the people of Israel turned again and whored after the Baals and made Baal-berith their god. (Съд 2:19; Съд 8:27; Съд 9:4; Съд 9:46) 34 And the people of Israel did not remember the LORD their God, who had delivered them from the hand of all their enemies on every side, (Пс 78:11; Пс 78:42; Пс 106:13; Пс 106:21) 35 and they did not show steadfast love to the family of Jerubbaal (that is, Gideon) in return for all the good that he had done to Israel.
