1 След като мадиамският жрец Йотор, Моисеевият тъст, чу за всичко, което Бог извършил за Моисей и за народа Си Израил, как ГОСПОД извел Израил от Египет, (Изх 2:16; Изх 3:1; Пс 44:1; Пс 77:14; Пс 77:15; Пс 78:4; Пс 105:5; Пс 105:43; Пс 106:2; Пс 106:8) 2 то Моисеевият тъст Йотор взе Сепфора, Моисеевата жена (след като я беше изпратил назад), (Изх 4:26) 3 и двамата и сина (от които името на единия беше Гирсом[1], защото Моисей беше казал: Пришълец станах в чужда земя; (Изх 2:22; Д А 7:29) 4 името на другия беше Елиезер[2], защото Моисей беше казал: Бащиният ми Бог ми стана помощник и ме избави от фараоновия меч); 5 и Йотор, Моисеевият тъст, дойде при Моисей със синовете му и с жена му в пустинята до Божията планина, където се беше разположил на стан, (Изх 3:1; Изх 3:12) 6 и извести на Моисей: Аз, тъст ти Йотор, идвам при тебе с жена ти и двамата и сина с нея. (Бит 14:17; Бит 18:2; Бит 19:1; 3 Цар 2:19) 7 Тогава Моисей излезе да посрещне тъста си, поклони се и го целуна; и като се разпитаха един друг за здравето си, влязоха в шатъра. (Бит 29:13; Бит 33:4) 8 И Моисей разказа на тъста си всичко, което беше направил ГОСПОД на фараона и на египтяните заради Израил, и всички мъчнотии, които ги сполетяха по пътя, и как ГОСПОД ги избави. (Пс 78:42; Пс 81:7; Пс 106:10; Пс 107:2) 9 А Йотор се зарадва много за цялото добро, което ГОСПОД беше направил на Израил, като го избави от ръката на египтяните. 10 Тогава Йотор каза: Благословен ГОСПОД, Който ви избави от ръката на египтяните и от фараоновата ръка, Който избави народа от ръката на египтяните. (Бит 14:20; 2 Цар 18:28; Лк 1:68) 11 Сега зная, че ГОСПОД е по-велик от всички богове – даже и в това, с което те се гордееха, Той ги превъзхожда. (Изх 1:10; Изх 1:16; Изх 1:22; Изх 5:2; Изх 5:7; Изх 14:8; Изх 14:18; 1 Цар 2:3; 2 Лет 2:5; Неем 9:10; Неем 9:16; Неем 9:29; Йов 40:11; Йов 40:12; Пс 31:23; Пс 95:3; Пс 97:9; Пс 119:21; Пс 135:5; Лк 1:51) 12 Тогава Моисеевият тъст Йотор взе всеизгаряне и жертви, за да принесе на Бога; и Аарон и всички израилски старейшини дойдоха да ядат хляб с Моисеевия тъст пред Бога. (Вт 12:7; 1 Лет 29:22; 1 Кор 10:18; 1 Кор 10:21; 1 Кор 10:31) 13 На другия ден Моисей седна да съди народа; и народът стоеше около Моисей от сутрин до вечер. 14 А Моисеевият тъст, като видя всичко, което той вършеше за народа, каза: Какво е това, което правиш с народа? Защо седиш сам и целият народ стои около теб от сутрин до вечер? 15 А Моисей отговори на тъста си: Защото народът идва при мене да се допитва до Бога. (Лев 24:12; Чис 15:34; Чис 15:35) 16 Когато имат дело, идват при мен; и аз съдя между двамата противници и им пояснявам Божиите наредби и закони. (Изх 23:7; Изх 24:14; Лев 24:15; Чис 15:35; Чис 27:6; Чис 36:6; Вт 17:8; 2 Цар 15:3; Йов 31:13; Д А 18:15; 1 Кор 6:1) 17 Но Моисеевият тъст каза: Това, което правиш, не е добро. 18 И ти ще се измъчиш, и този народ, който е с тебе, защото това е много тежко за тебе; не можеш да го вършиш сам. (Чис 11:14; Чис 11:17; Вт 1:9; Вт 1:12) 19 Сега послушай думите ми; ще те посъветвам – и Бог да бъде с тебе. Ти стой между народа и Бога, за да представяш делата пред Бога; (Изх 3:12; Изх 4:16; Изх 20:19; Чис 27:5; Вт 5:5) 20 и ги поучавай в наредбите и законите и им показвай пътя, по който трябва да ходят, и делата, които трябва да вършат. (Вт 1:18; Вт 4:1; Вт 4:5; Вт 5:1; Вт 6:1; Вт 6:2; Вт 7:11; Пс 143:8) 21 Но при това измежду целия народ си избери способни мъже, които се боят от Бога, обичат истината и мразят несправедливата печалба, и постави над народа такива за хилядници, стотници, петдесетници и десетници; (Бит 42:18; Изх 18:25; Вт 1:15; Вт 1:16; Вт 16:18; Вт 16:19; 2 Цар 23:3; 2 Лет 19:5; Ез 18:8; Д А 6:3) 22 и те нека съдят народа винаги – всяко голямо дело нека донасят пред теб, а всяко малко дело нека отсъждат сами; така ще ти олекне и те ще носят товара заедно с теб. (Изх 18:26; Лев 24:11; Чис 11:17; Чис 15:33; Чис 27:2; Чис 36:1; Вт 1:17; Вт 17:8) 23 Ако направиш това и ако Бог така ти заповяда, тогава ще можеш да издържиш; и целият този народ ще се разотиде доволен. (Бит 18:33; Бит 30:25; Изх 16:29; Изх 18:18; 2 Цар 19:39) 24 И Моисей послуша думите на тъста си и направи всичко, което му каза. 25 Моисей избра способни мъже измежду целия Израил, които постави началници над народа – хилядници, стотници, петдесетници и десетници. (Вт 1:15; Д А 6:5) 26 Те съдеха народа по всяко време; трудните дела донасяха на Моисей, а за всяко малко дело отсъждаха сами. (Изх 18:22; Йов 29:16) 27 След това Моисей изпрати тъста си и той се върна в своята земя. (Чис 10:29; Чис 10:30)

1 Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses’ father-in-law, heard of all that God had done for Moses and for Israel his people, how the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt. (Изх 2:16; Изх 2:18; Изх 18:12) 2 Now Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, had taken Zipporah, Moses’ wife, after he had sent her home, 3 along with her two sons. The name of the one was Gershom ( for he said, “I have been a sojourner[1] in a foreign land”), (Изх 2:22; Изх 4:20; Пс 39:12; Д А 7:29; Евр 11:13) 4 and the name of the other, Eliezer[2] (for he said, “The God of my father was my help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh”). 5 Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, came with his sons and his wife to Moses in the wilderness where he was encamped at the mountain of God. (Изх 3:1) 6 And when he sent word to Moses, “I,[3] your father-in-law Jethro, am coming to you with your wife and her two sons with her,” 7 Moses went out to meet his father-in-law and bowed down and kissed him. And they asked each other of their welfare and went into the tent. (Неем 9:9; Пс 78:12; Пс 78:42; Пс 106:7) 9 And Jethro rejoiced for all the good that the LORD had done to Israel, in that he had delivered them out of the hand of the Egyptians. 10 Jethro said, “Blessed be the LORD, who has delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians and out of the hand of Pharaoh and has delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians. (Бит 31:54; Вт 12:7; Вт 14:26; 1 Лет 24:11; 1 Лет 29:22) 13 The next day Moses sat to judge the people, and the people stood around Moses from morning till evening. 14 When Moses’ father-in-law saw all that he was doing for the people, he said, “What is this that you are doing for the people? Why do you sit alone, and all the people stand around you from morning till evening?” 15 And Moses said to his father-in-law, “Because the people come to me to inquire of God; (Лев 24:12; Чис 15:34) 16 when they have a dispute, they come to me and I decide between one person and another, and I make them know the statutes of God and his laws.” (Изх 24:14; Вт 4:5; Вт 5:1; Вт 17:8; 2 Цар 15:2; 2 Цар 15:3; 1 Кор 6:1) 17 Moses’ father-in-law said to him, “What you are doing is not good. 18 You and the people with you will certainly wear yourselves out, for the thing is too heavy for you. You are not able to do it alone. (Чис 11:14; Чис 11:17; Вт 1:9; Вт 1:12) 19 Now obey my voice; I will give you advice, and God be with you! You shall represent the people before God and bring their cases to God, (Изх 4:16; Изх 20:19; Чис 27:5; Вт 5:5) 20 and you shall warn them about the statutes and the laws, and make them know the way in which they must walk and what they must do. (Вт 1:18; Пс 143:8) 21 Moreover, look for able men from all the people, men who fear God, who are trustworthy and hate a bribe, and place such men over the people as chiefs of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens. (Вт 1:15; Вт 16:18; 2 Лет 19:5; Д А 6:3) 22 And let them judge the people at all times. Every great matter they shall bring to you, but any small matter they shall decide themselves. So it will be easier for you, and they will bear the burden with you. (Изх 18:26; Лев 24:11; Чис 11:17; Чис 15:33; Чис 27:2; Чис 36:1; Вт 1:17; Вт 17:8) 23 If you do this, God will direct you, you will be able to endure, and all this people also will go to their place in peace.” (Изх 18:18) 24 So Moses listened to the voice of his father-in-law and did all that he had said. 25 Moses chose able men out of all Israel and made them heads over the people, chiefs of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens. (Вт 1:15) 26 And they judged the people at all times. Any hard case they brought to Moses, but any small matter they decided themselves. (Изх 18:22) 27 Then Moses let his father-in-law depart, and he went away to his own country. (Чис 10:29; Чис 10:30)
