1 Jako potůčkové vod jest srdce královo v ruce Hospodinově; kamžkoli chce, nakloňuje ho. 2 Všeliká cesta člověka přímá se zdá jemu, ale kterýž zpytuje srdce, Hospodin jest. 3 Vykonávati spravedlnost a soud více se líbí Hospodinu nežli obět. 4 Vysokost očí, širokost srdce, a orání bezbožných jest hříchem. 5 Myšlení bedlivého všelijak ku prospěchu přicházejí, ale každého toho, kdož kvapný jest, toliko k nouzi. 6 Pokladové jazykem lživým shromáždění jsou marnost pomíjející hledajících smrti. 7 Zhouba, kterouž činí bezbožníci, bydliti bude u nich; nebo se zpěčují činiti soudu. 8 Muž, jehož cesta převrácená jest, cizí jest, čistého pak dílo přímé jest. 9 Lépe jest bydliti v koutě na střeše,nežli s ženou svárlivou v domě společném. 10 Duše bezbožného žádá zlého, ani přítel jeho jemu příjemný nebývá. 11 Posměvač když bývá trestán, hloupý bývá moudřejší; a když se uměle nakládá s moudrým, přijímá umění. 12 Vyučuje Bůh spravedlivého na domě bezbožného, kterýž vyvrací bezbožné pro zlost. 13 Kdo zacpává ucho své k volání chudého, i on sám volati bude, a nebude vyslyšán. 14 Dar skrytý ukrocuje prchlivost, a pocta v klíně hněv prudký. 15 Radostí jest spravedlivému činiti soud, ale hrůzou činitelům nepravosti. 16 Člověk bloudící z cesty rozumnosti v shromáždění mrtvých odpočívati bude. 17 Muž milující veselost nuzníkem bývá, a kdož miluje víno a masti, nezbohatne. 18 Výplatou za spravedlivého bude bezbožný, a za upřímé ošemetný. 19 Lépe jest bydliti v zemi pusté než s ženou svárlivou a zlostnou. 20 Poklad žádostivý a olej jest v příbytku moudrého, bláznivý pak člověk zžírá jej. 21 Kdo snažně následuje spravedlnosti a milosrdenství, nalézá život, spravedlnost i slávu. 22 Do města silných vchází moudrý, a boří pevnost doufání jeho. 23 Kdo ostříhá úst svých a jazyka svého, ostříhá od úzkosti duše své. 24 Hrdého a pyšného jméno jest posměvač, kterýž vše s neochotností a pýchou dělá. 25 Žádost lenivého zabijí jej, nebo nechtí ruce jeho dělati. 26 Každého dne žádostí hoří, spravedlivý pak dává a neskoupí se. 27 Obět bezbožných ohavností jest, ovšem pak jestliže by ji s nešlechetností obětovali. 28 Svědek lživý zahyne, ale muž, kterýž co slyší, stále mluviti bude. 29 Muž bezbožný zatvrzuje tvář svou, upřímý pak měří cestu svou. 30 Není žádné moudrosti, ani opatrnosti, ani rady proti Hospodinu. 31 Kůň strojen bývá ke dni boje, ale Hospodinovo jest vysvobození.

1 Královo srdce je v Hospodinových rukou jako vodní toky; nakloní je, kam se mu zlíbí. 2 Člověku se všechny jeho cesty zdají přímé, ale srdce zpytuje Hospodin. 3 Prosazovat spravedlnost a právo je před Hospodinem výbornější než oběť. 4 Pýcha očí a nadutost srdce, ač jsou svévolníkům světlem, jsou hříchem. 5 Plány jsou pilnému k užitku, ale každý, kdo se ukvapuje, bude mít nedostatek. 6 Poklady dobývané zrádným jazykem jsou jen odvátý přelud těch, kdo vyhledávají smrt. 7 Svévolníky zachvátí zhouba, kterou rozpoutali, neboť odmítali zjednat právo. 8 Klikatá je cesta muže proradného, ryzí člověk v jednání je přímý. 9 Lépe je bydlet na střeše v koutku než se svárlivou ženou ve společném domě. 10 Svévolník je chtivý zlého, v jeho očích nenalezne slitování ani přítel. 11 Když pokutují posměvače, prostoduchý zmoudří, když je k prozíravosti veden moudrý, nabývá poznání. 12 Spravedlivý prozíravě vede v patrnosti dům svévolníka; svévolníky vyvrací pro jejich zlobu. 13 Kdo před křikem nuzného si zacpe uši, bude také volat, a odpověď nedostane. 14 Tajný dar tlumí hněv a postranní úplatek prudké rozhořčení. 15 Prosazovat právo je radostí spravedlivému, ale zkázou pachatelům ničemnosti. 16 Člověk zbloudivší z cesty prozíravosti spočine v shromáždění říše stínů. 17 Nedostatek pozná, kdo miluje radovánky, kdo miluje víno a olej, nezbohatne. 18 Výkupným za spravedlivého bude svévolník, za přímé lidi věrolomník. 19 Lépe je bydlet v zemi pusté než se ženou svárlivou a zlostnou. 20 Žádoucí poklad a olej jsou v obydlí moudrého, kdežto hloupý člověk je prohýří. 21 Kdo jde za spravedlností a milosrdenstvím, najde život, spravedlnost a slávu. 22 Moudrý vstoupí do města bohatýrů a srazí baštu, na niž spoléhali. 23 Kdo střeží svá ústa a jazyk, střeží svou duši před soužením. 24 Pyšný opovážlivec jménem posměvač jedná bezmezně zpupně. 25 Lenocha usmrtí choutky, neboť jeho ruce odmítají práci; 26 choutky ho stravují neustále, ale spravedlivý dává a nešetří. 27 Oběť svévolníků je ohavností, tím spíše, když se přináší s mrzkým záměrem. 28 Lživý svědek zahyne, ale muž, který vypoví, co slyšel, bude mít poslední slovo. 29 Svévolník vystupuje s nestoudnou tváří, přímý jde však rovnou cestou. 30 Žádná moudrost, žádná rozumnost, žádný úradek nic nesvedou proti Hospodinu. 31 Kůň je strojen pro den boje, ale vítězství je u Hospodina.

1 Královo srdce je v Hospodinově ruce – jak vodní strouhu je směruje, kam chce. 2 Člověk má všechny své cesty za správné, srdce však zpytuje Hospodin. 3 Když se děje spravedlnost a právo, Hospodin to má raději než oběti. 4 Povýšené oči, naduté srdce, úsilí ničemů – to vše je hřích. 5 Plány pracovitých vedou k zisku, zbrklost přináší jenom chudobu. 6 Poklady získané lživými řečmi jsou pomíjivá marnost, smrtelná past.^[1] 7 Darebáci budou smeteni vlastní krutostí; konat spravedlnost totiž odmítli. 8 Cesta podvodníka je klikatá, povaha čistých je upřímná. 9 Lepší je stěhovat se do kouta na střechu než s hašteřivou ženou sdílet dům. 10 Darebák tíhne ke zlu celou svou duší, nebude laskavý ani k příteli. 11 Když trestají drzouna, prosťáček zmoudří, když vzdělávají moudrého, dojde poznání. 12 Spravedlivý se učí na domě darebáka: darebáci jsou sráženi pro svou zkaženost. 13 Kdo dělá, že neslyší volání ubožáka, nebude vyslyšen, až bude volat sám. 14 Tajný dárek dokáže utišit hněv, postranní úplatek i velkou zuřivost. 15 Poctivému je radostí prosazení práva, pro bídáky je to však záhuba. 16 Z cesty rozumu kdo ztratil se, ve shromáždění mrtvých spočine. 17 Milovník radovánek je vlastně chudák; milovník přepychu a vína nebude bohatý. 18 Darebák bude výkupným za spravedlivého, na místě poctivých se ocitne podvodník. 19 Lepší je bydlet někde v pustině než s hašteřivou ženou hádat se. 20 Moudrý má doma olej a vzácné poklady, tupec však všechno rozhází. 21 Komu jde o spravedlnost a soucit, nalezne život, spravedlnost a slávu. 22 Do města siláků vnikl moudrý a zbořil pevnost, na niž se spolehli! 23 Ten, kdo si hlídá ústa a jazyk, chrání svou duši před trápením. 24 Nadutý domýšlivec se drzoun jmenuje, jeho zpupnost nezná žádnou mez. 25 Lenocha umoří jeho vlastní touhy, jeho rukám práce nevoní. 26 Celý den jenom toužebně touží, spravedlivý však rozdává a neskrblí. 27 Sama ohavnost je oběť ničemů, zvlášť když se obětuje ze zlých úmyslů! 28 Falešný svědek bídně zhyne; poslední slovo má, kdo umí naslouchat. 29 Darebák jde a na nic nedbá, poctivý však svou cestu zvažuje. 30 Žádná moudrost, žádná šikovnost, žádná rada na Hospodina nestačí. 31 Kůň bývá chystán pro den boje, Hospodinovo je však vítězství.
