1 Lepší jest chudý, jenž chodí v upřímnosti své, nežli převrácený ve rtech svých, kterýž jest blázen. 2 Jistě že bez umění duši není dobře, a kdož jest kvapných noh, hřeší. 3 Bláznovství člověka převrací cestu jeho, ačkoli proti Hospodinu zpouzí se srdce jeho. 4 Statek přidává přátel množství, ale chudý od přítele svého odloučen bývá. 5 Svědek falešný nebude bez pomsty, a kdož mluví lež, neuteče. 6 Mnozí pokoří se před knížetem, a každý jest přítel muži štědrému. 7 Všickni bratří chudého v nenávisti jej mají; čím více přátelé jeho vzdalují se od něho! Když volá za nimi, není jich. 8 Ten, kdož miluje duši svou, nabývá moudrosti, a ostříhá opatrnosti, aby nalezl dobré. 9 Svědek falešný nebude bez pomsty, a kdož mluví lež, zahyne. 10 Nesluší na blázna rozkoš, a ovšem, aby služebník nad knížaty panoval. 11 Rozum člověka zdržuje hněv jeho, a čest jeho jest prominouti provinění. 12 Prchlivost královská jako řvání mladého lva jest, a ochotnost jeho jako rosa na bylinu. 13 Trápení otci svému jest syn bláznivý, a ustavičné kapání žena svárlivá. 14 Dům a statek jest po rodičích, ale od Hospodina manželka rozumná. 15 Lenost přivodí tvrdý sen, a duše váhavá lačněti bude. 16 Ten, kdož ostříhá přikázaní, ostříhá duše své; ale kdož pohrdá cestami svými, zahyne. 17 Kdo uděluje chudému, půjčuje Hospodinu, a onť za dobrodiní jeho odplatí jemu. 18 Tresci syna svého, dokudž jest o něm naděje, a k zahynutí jeho neodpouštěj jemu duše tvá. 19 Veliký hněv ukazuj, odpouštěje trestání, proto že poněvadž odpouštíš, potom více trestati budeš. 20 Poslouchej rady, a přijímej kázeň, abys vždy někdy moudrý byl. 21 Mnozí úmyslové jsou v srdci člověka, ale uložení Hospodinovo toť ostojí. 22 Žádaná věc člověku jest dobře činiti jiným, ale počestnější jest chudý než muž lživý. 23 Bázeň Hospodinova k životu. Takový jsa nasycen, bydlí, aniž neštěstím navštíven bývá. 24 Lenivý schovává ruku svou za ňadra, ani k ústům svým jí nevztáhne. 25 Ubí posměvače, ať se hlupec dovtípí; a potresci rozumného, ať porozumí umění. 26 Syn, kterýž hanbu a lehkost činí, hubí otce, a zahání matku. 27 Přestaň, synu můj, poslouchati učení, kteréž od řečí rozumných odvozuje. 28 Svědek nešlechetný posmívá se soudu, a ústa bezbožných přikrývají nepravost. 29 Nebo na posměvače hotoví jsou nálezové, a rány na hřbet bláznů.

Kdo se honí za slovy, nemá z toho nic. 8 Kdo získal rozum, má rád svůj život, kdo dbá na rozumnost, najde dobro. 9 Křivý svědek nezůstane bez trestu, zahyne ten, kdo šíří lži. 10 Nepřísluší blahobyt hlupákovi, natož otroku vláda nad knížaty. 11 Prozíravost činí člověka shovívavým, promíjet přestupky je jeho ozdobou. 12 Jak řev mladého lva je králova zlost, jak rosa na bylinu jeho přízeň. 13 Neštěstím pro otce je syn hlupák; svárlivá žena jak neustálé zatékání vody. 14 Dům a majetek lze zdědit po otcích, ale prozíravá žena je od Hospodina. 15 Lenost uvede do mrákot; zahálčivá duše bude hladovět. 16 Kdo zachovává přikázání, střeží svůj život, zemře, kdo jeho cestami zhrdá. 17 Hospodinu půjčuje, kdo se nad nuzným smilovává, on mu odplatí jeho dobročinnost. 18 Trestej syna, dokud je naděje, a nechtěj mu přivodit smrt! 19 Velká vznětlivost volá po pokutě, odpustíš-li, budeš muset přidat. 20 Poslechni radu, přijmi i trest, abys byl napříště moudrý. 21 Člověk má v srdci mnoho plánů, ale úradek Hospodinův obstojí. 22 Na člověku se žádá, aby byl milosrdný; chudák je na tom lépe než lhář. 23 Bázeň před Hospodinem vede k životu; nasycen přečkáš noc a nic zlého tě nepostihne. 24 Lenoch sáhne rukou do mísy, ale k ústům už ji nevrátí. 25 Bij posměvače a prostoduchý se stane chytřejším, domluv rozumnému a porozumí poznání. 26 Kdo týrá otce a vyhání matku, je syn hanebný a hnusný. 27 Přestaneš-li, synu, poslouchat kárání, od výroků poznání zbloudíš. 28 Ničemný svědek se posmívá právu a ústa svévolníků hltají ničemnosti. 29 Na posměvače jsou schystány soudy, na hřbet hlupáků výprask.

1 Lepší chudý poctivec než prolhaný pitomec. 2 Nadšení bez poznání nestačí, zbrklý se dopouští mnoha chyb. 3 Člověk padá pro vlastní hloupost, v srdci má ale na Hospodina zlost. 4 Boháč má přátel habaděj, chuďas je opuštěn bez přátel. 5 Křivopřísežník trestu neujde, neunikne, kdo šíří lež. 6 Štědrého člověka si mnozí předcházejí, s tím, kdo rozdává, se každý přátelí. 7 Chuďase nesnáší ani jeho bratři – tím spíše se mu vyhnou přátelé! Snaží se najít slova, ale zbytečně. 8 Kdo se má rád, snaží se získat rozum, kdo rozvahy se drží, štěstí dosáhne. 9 Křivopřísežník neujde trestu, kdo šíří klam, ten zahyne. 10 Tupci nesluší žádný přepych, tím méně otroku vláda nad pány. 11 Prozíravost brání člověku se hněvat, promíjet vinu je jeho ozdoba. 12 Králova zlost – to je lví řev, jeho přízeň – rosa na trávě. 13 Tupý syn je neštěstím svého otce, hašteřivá žena pak crčení bez konce! 14 Dům a majetek bývá po rodičích, rozumnou ženu však dává Hospodin. 15 Lenost ukolébá člověka k spánku; kdo je váhavý, zůstane o hladu. 16 Kdo dbá na přikázání, dbá na vlastní duši; komu je lhostejné, jak žije, zahyne. 17 Kdo pomáhá chudým, půjčuje Hospodinu; on sám mu jeho dobrodiní odplatí. 18 Napravuj syna, dokud máš naději, jeho smrt nechtěj dopustit. 19 Vztekloun zasluhuje potrestání; ušetříš-li ho, zkazíš ho ještě víc. 20 Poslechni radu, přijmi poučení, abys byl příště moudřejší. 21 Člověk má v srdci mnohé plány, stane se ale, co chce Hospodin. 22 Po člověku se žádá, aby byl laskavý; lépe je být chudák nežli podvodník. 23 Úcta k Hospodinu přináší život; v sytosti a klidu pak člověk může spát. 24 Lenoch k talíři natáhne ruku, k ústům ji už ale nezvedne. 25 Nabij drzounovi, a prosťáček zmoudří, pokárej rozumného, a dojde poznání. 26 Napadá otce, vyhání matku syn hanebný a nestoudný. 27 Přestaň, synu, naslouchat poučení, a zabloudíš od slov poznání. 28 Ničemný svědek se vysmívá právu, ústa darebáků hltají hanebnost. 29 Na drzouny čekají soudy, na hřbety tupců rány.
