1Slyšte slovo Hospodinovo, ó synové Izraelští, neboť má rozepři Hospodin s obyvateli země této, proto že není žádné věrnosti, ani žádného milosrdenství, ani žádné známosti Boží v této zemi.2Proklínání a lži a vraždy, a zlodějství i cizoložství na vrch zrostlo, a vražda vraždu postihá.3Protož kvíliti bude tato země, a umdlí všecko, což v ní přebývá, živočichové polní i ptactvo nebeské, ano i ryby mořské zhynou.4A však žádný jim nedomlouvej, aniž jich kdo tresci; nebo lid tvůj podobni jsou těm, kteříž se vadí s knězem.5Protož ve dne padneš, padne také i prorok s tebou v noci, zahladím i matku tvou.6Vyhlazen bude lid můj pro neumění. Poněvadž jsi ty pohrdl uměním, i tebou pohrdnu, abys mi kněžství nekonal; a že jsi zapomněl na zákon Boha svého, já také zapomenu se na syny tvé.7Čím se více rozmohli, tím více hřešili proti mně; slávu jejich v pohanění směním.8Oběti za hřích lidu mého jedí, protož k nepravosti jejich duše své pozdvihují.9Pročež stane se jakž lidu tak knězi. Nebo vyhledávati budu na něm cest jeho, a skutky jeho jemu vrátím.10I budou jísti, a však se nenasytí, smilniti budou, ale nerozmnoží se; nebo nechtějí pozoru míti na Hospodina.11Smilství a víno a mest odjímá srdce.12Lid můj dřeva svého se dotazuje, a hůl jeho oznamuje jemu; nebo je duch smilství v blud uvodí, aby smilnili, odcházejíce od Boha svého.13Na vrších hor obětují, a na pahrbcích kadí, pod doubím a topolím a jilmovím, nebo jest příhodný stín jejich; protož smilní dcery vaše, a nevěsty vaše cizoloží.14Nevyhledával-liž bych na dcerách vašich, že smilní, a na nevěstách vašich, že cizoloží, že tito s nevěstkami se oddělují, a s ženkami obětují? Anobrž lid, kterýž sobě nesrozumívá, padne.15Jestliže smilníš ty Izraeli, nechažť nehřeší Juda. Protož nechoďtež do Galgala, aniž vstupujte do Betaven, aniž přisahejte: Živť jest Hospodin.16Nebo jako jalovice tvrdošijná tvrdošijný jest Izrael, jižť je pásti bude Hospodin jako beránka na prostranně.17Efraim stovaryšil se s modlami, nechej ho.18Zpurné je činí nápoj jejich, velice smilní, milují: Dejte. Ochráncové jeho jsou ohyzda.19Zachvátí je vítr křídly svými, i budou zahanbeni pro své oběti.
BOŽÍ SPOR S LIDEM - — Hospodinův soud nad Izraelem - Hospodin volá k soudu kněze i lid, protože se zpronevěřili svému poslání.
1 Slyšte slovo Hospodinovo, synové izraelští! Hospodin vede při s obyvateli země, protože není věrnost ani milosrdenství ani poznání Boha v zemi. 2 Kletby a přetvářka, vraždy a krádeže a cizoložství se rozmohly, krveprolití stíhá prolitou krev. 3 Proto země truchlí, chřadnou všichni její obyvatelé, polní zvěř a nebeské ptactvo; hynou i mořské ryby. 4 Nikdo se nepři, nechtěj druhého kárat! Tvůj lid, knězi, jako by chtěl vést při, 5 ale upadneš za dne, a za noci upadne s tebou prorok; zahladím i tvou matku. 6 Můj lid zajde, protože odmítá poznání. Ty jsi zavrhl poznání a já zavrhnu tebe; nebudeš mým knězem. Zapomněls na zákon svého Boha; i já zapomenu na tvé syny. 7 Čím je jich víc, tím více proti mně hřeší; já jejich váženost zlehčím. 8 Krmí se oběťmi mého lidu za hřích, přiklánějí se k jeho nepravostem. 9 Proto dojde jak na lid, tak na kněze. Ztrestám ho za jeho cesty, za jeho skutky mu odplatím. 10 Budou jíst, a nenasytí se, budou smilnit, a nerozmohou se, protože opustili Hospodina 11 a hleděli si smilstva, vínem a moštem omamují srdce. 12 Můj lid se doptává svého dřeva, jeho hůlka mu předpovídá; tak jej zavádí duch smilstva. Smilstvím se odvrací od svého Boha. 13 Obětují na vrcholcích hor, na pahorcích pálí kadidlo, pod dubem a topolem a kdejakým posvátným stromem, protože jejich stín je příjemný. Proto vaše dcery smilní, vaše snachy cizoloží. 14 Ale nepotrestám za smilstvo jen vaše dcery, za cizoložství vaše snachy. Vždyť sami kněží se spolčují s nevěstkami, s kněžkami obětují! Je to lid nerozumný, padne. 15 Jestliže smilníš ty, Izraeli, ať se neproviňuje Juda. Nevcházejte do Gilgálu, neputujte do Bét-ávenu, nepřísahejte: “Jakože živ je Hospodin!“ 16 Izrael je umíněný jako umíněná kráva. Má je teď Hospodin pást volně jako beránka? 17 Spolčencem modlářských stvůr se stal Efrajim, nech ho být. 18 Propadl modlářským pitkám, smilní a smilní, jsou posedlí hanebnou láskou, ta je jim štítem. 19 Bude jim úzko, vítr je zachvátí svými perutěmi, za svoje oběti se budou stydět.

Protožes odmítl poznání, i já tě odmítnu od kněžství; na Zákon svého Boha nedbal jsi, ani já nebudu dbát na tvé potomky.7Jak se rozmáhali víc a víc, tím více proti mně hřešili; svou Slávu nahradili[3] mrzkostí.8Živí se oběťmi mého lidu za hřích, dychtivě baží po jejich špatnosti.9Kněz proto dopadne tak jako lid – budu je trestat za jejich způsoby, za jejich skutky jim odplatím!10Budou jíst, ale nenasytí se, budou smilnit, ale nerozmnoží se, protože opustili Hospodina a pustili se11do smilstva. Kvůli vínu, kvůli burčáku přišli o rozum!12Můj lid se radí se dřevem, nějaká hůlka jim dává předpověď; dali se obloudit duchem smilstva, smilně opustili svého Boha.13Obětují na horských vrcholech, na pahorcích kouří kadidlem, pod dubem, topolem, pod mohutným stromem, v jejichž stínu je tak příjemně. Ačkoli vaše dcery smilní a vaše snachy cizoloží,14nebudu trestat vaše smilné dcery ani ty vaše cizoložné snachy – vždyť jsou to muži, kdo chodí za nevěstkami a konají oběti s těmi kněžkami. Špatně dopadne ten tupý lid!15Jestliže, Izraeli, smilníš ty, ať aspoň Juda nehřeší! Proto nechoďte do Gilgalu, neputujte do Bet-avenu,[4] zdržte se přísahy: „Jakože žije Hospodin!“16Izrael se umíněně vzpírá jako umíněná kráva. Jak ho má Hospodin teď nechat pást svobodně jako beránka?17Efraim[5] se spřáhl s modlami – nech ho být!18Když už je pití vypito, vrhnou se na smilstvo; ti, kdo jsou lidu záštitou, chovají v lásce zkaženost.19Vítr je svými křídly zachvátí, budou se stydět za své oběti!
