1Stalo se pak léta čtvrtého Joakima syna Joziášova, krále Judského, stalo se slovo toto k Jeremiášovi od Hospodina, řkoucí:2Vezmi sobě knihu, a zapiš do ní všecka slova, kteráž jsem mluvil tobě proti Izraelovi, a proti Judovi, i všechněm národům od toho dne, jakž jsem mluvíval s tebou, ode dnů Joziášových, až do dne tohoto,3Zdali aspoň uslyšíce dům Judský o všem tom zlém, kteréž já myslím učiniti jim, navrátí se jeden každý z cesty své zlé, abych odpustil nepravost jejich a hřích jejich.4Protož zavolal Jeremiáš Bárucha syna Neriášova, i sepsal Báruch do knihy z úst Jeremiášových všecka slova Hospodinova, kteráž mluvil jemu.5Potom přikázal Jeremiáš Báruchovi, řka: Já zápověd maje, nemohu jíti do domu Hospodinova.6Protož jdi ty, a čti v knize této, což jsi napsal z úst mých, slova Hospodinova, při přítomnosti lidu v domě Hospodinově, v den postu, též také při přítomnosti všech Judských, kteříž by se z měst svých sešli, čti je,7Zda by snad poníženě a pokorně modléce se před Hospodinem, i navrátili by se jeden každý z cesty své zlé; neboť jest veliký hněv a prchlivost, v níž mluvil Hospodin proti lidu tomuto.8I učinil Báruch syn Neriášův všecko, jakž přikázal jemu Jeremiáš prorok, čta v knize té slova Hospodinova v domě Hospodinově.9Stalo se pak léta pátého za Joakima syna Joziášova, krále Judského, měsíce devátého, že vyhlásili půst před Hospodinem všemu lidu v Jeruzalémě, a všemu lidu, kteříž se byli sešli z měst Judských do Jeruzaléma.10I četl Báruch z knihy slova Jeremiášova v domě Hospodinově, v pokoji Gemariáše syna Safanova, písaře, na síni hořejší, u dveří brány domu Hospodinova nové, při přítomnosti všeho lidu.11Když pak vyslyšel Micheáš syn Gemariášův, syna Safanova, všecka slova Hospodinova z té knihy,12Hned šel do domu královského, do pokoje kancléřova, a aj, tam všecka knížata seděla: Elisama ten kancléř, a Delaiáš syn Semaiášův, a Elnatan syn Achborův, a Gemariáš syn Safanův, a Sedechiáš syn Chananiášův, i všecka knížata.13A oznámil jim Micheáš všecka slova, kteráž slyšel, když četl Báruch v knize při přítomnosti lidu.14Protož poslala všecka knížata k Báruchovi Judu syna Netaniášova, syna Selemiášova, syna Chuzova, aby řekl: Tu knihu, v níž jsi četl při přítomnosti lidu, vezmi do ruky své a poď. I vzal Báruch syn Neriášův tu knihu do ruky své, a přišel k nim.15Kteříž řekli jemu: Seď medle a čti ji před námi. I četl Báruch před nimi.16Stalo se pak, když uslyšeli všecka slova ta, že předěšeni byli všickni, a řekli Báruchovi: Jistotně oznámíme králi všecka slova tato.17Potom otázali se Bárucha, řkouce: Oznam již nám, jak jsi všecka slova ta sepsal z úst jeho?18Jimž řekl Báruch: Z úst svých pravil mi všecka slova tato, a já psal jsem na knihách černidlem.19Tedy řekla ta knížata Báruchovi: Jdi schovej se ty i Jeremiáš, ať žádný neví, kde jste.20Potom vešli k králi na síň, když tu knihu schovati dali v pokoji Elisama kancléře, a oznámili králi všecka slova ta.21I poslal král Judu, aby vzal tu knihu. Kterýžto vzal ji z pokoje Elisama kancléře, a četl ji Juda při přítomnosti krále, a při přítomnosti všech knížat stojících před králem.22Král pak seděl v domě, v němž v zimě býval, měsíce devátého, a na ohništi před ním hořelo.23Tedy stalo se, jakž jen přečtl Juda tři listy neb čtyři, že pořezal ji škriptorálem, a házel na oheň, kterýž byl na ohništi, až shořela všecka kniha ta ohněm tím, kterýž byl na ohništi.24Ale neulekli se, aniž roztrhl roucha svá král a všickni služebníci jeho, kteříž slyšeli všecka slova ta.25Nýbrž ještě když Elnatan a Delaiáš a Gemariáš přimlouvali se k králi, aby nepálil té knihy, tedy neuposlechl jich.26Ale přikázal král Jerachmeelovi synu královu, a Saraiášovi synu Azrielovu, a Selemiášovi synu Abdeelovu, aby jali Bárucha písaře a Jeremiáše proroka. Ale skryl je Hospodin.27Stalo se pak slovo Hospodinovo k Jeremiášovi, když spálil král tu knihu a slova, kteráž byl sepsal Báruch z úst Jeremiášových, řkoucí:28Vezmi sobě zase knihu jinou, a napiš na ní všecka slova první, kteráž byla v té knize prvnější, kterouž spálil Joakim král Judský.29O Joakimovi pak králi Judském rci: Takto praví Hospodin: Ty jsi spálil knihu tuto, pravě: Proč jsi psal v ní, řka: Jistotně přitáhne král Babylonský, a zkazí zemi tuto, a vyhladí z ní lidi i hovada?30Protož takto praví Hospodin o Joakimovi králi Judském: Nebude míti, kdo by seděl na stolici Davidově, a tělo jeho mrtvé bude vyvrženo na horko ve dne a na mráz v noci.31Nebo trestati budu na něm, a na semeni jeho, i na služebnících jeho nepravost jejich, a uvedu na ně, a na obyvatele Jeruzalémské, i na muže Judské všecko to zlé, o kterémž jsem mluvíval jim, a neposlouchali.32I vzal Jeremiáš knihu jinou, a dal ji Báruchovi synu Neriášovu, písaři, kterýž sepsal do ní z úst Jeremiášových všecka slova té knihy, kterouž byl spálil Joakim král Judský ohněm. A ještě přidáno jest k těm slovům mnoho těm podobných.
JEREMJÁŠ VE VĚZENÍ - — Báruk sepisuje slova Jeremjášova - Prorok nadiktuje Bárukovi podle Hospodinova příkazu svěřené poselství.
1 Ve čtvrtém roce vlády Jójakíma, syna Jóšijášova, krále judského, stalo se od Hospodina k Jeremjášovi toto slovo:2 „Vezmi si svitek knihy a napiš do něho všechna slova, která jsem k tobě mluvil o Izraeli a Judovi i o všech pronárodech ode dne, kdy jsem k tobě promluvil, ode dnů Jóšijášových až dodnes.3 Snad až dům judský uslyší o všem zlu, které jim zamýšlím učinit, odvrátí se každý od své zlé cesty a já jim jejich nepravost a jejich hřích odpustím.“ 4 Jeremjáš tedy zavolal Báruka, syna Nerijášova. Báruk zapsal do svitku knihy všechna slova z Jeremjášových úst, která k němu Hospodin mluvil.5 Pak Jeremjáš Bárukovi přikázal: „Jsem ve vazbě a nesmím chodit do Hospodinova domu.6 Ale ty jdi a ze svitku, do něhož jsi zapsal Hospodinova slova z mých úst, předčítej lidu v domě Hospodinově v den postu, předčítej je i všem Judejcům, kteří přijdou ze svých měst.7 Snad padnou na kolena a budou prosit před Hospodinem o smilování a každý se odvrátí od své zlé cesty. Vždyť veliký je hněv a rozhořčení, o němž Hospodin tomuto lidu mluvil!“8 Báruk, syn Nerijášův, učinil všechno, co mu přikázal prorok Jeremjáš, a četl v Hospodinově domě z knihy Hospodinova slova.
— Znepokojení při četbě knihy - Báruk předčítá Jeremjášova slova veřejně v chrámu a vyvolá veliké znepokojení.
9 V pátém roce vlády Jójakíma, syna Jóšijášova, krále judského, v devátém měsíci, vyhlásili půst před Hospodinem pro všechen lid v Jeruzalémě i pro všechen lid, přicházející do Jeruzaléma z judských měst.10 Báruk předčítal z knihy Jeremjášova slova všemu lidu v Hospodinově domě v síni písaře Gemarjáše, syna Šáfanova, na horním nádvoří u vchodu do Nové brány Hospodinova domu.11 Míkajáš, syn Gemarjáše, syna Šáfanova, slyšel z té knihy všechna Hospodinova slova.12 Sešel dolů do královského domu do síně písařovy, kde zasedali všichni velmožové: písař Elíšama, Delajáš, syn Šemajášův, Elnátan, syn Akbórův, Gemarjáš, syn Šáfanův, a Sidkijáš, syn Chananjášův. Byli tam všichni velmožové.13 Míkajáš jim oznámil všechna slova, která slyšel, když Báruk lidu předčítal z knihy. 14 Všichni ti velmožové poslali k Bárukovi Jehúdího, syna Netanjáše, syna Šelemjáše, syna Kúšiho, se vzkazem: „Vezmi s sebou svitek, z něhož jsi lidu předčítal, a pojď.“ Báruk, syn Nerijášův, vzal s sebou svitek a přišel k nim.15 Vyzvali jej: „Posaď se a předčítej nám.“ Báruk jim tedy předčítal.16 Když slyšeli všechna ta slova, chvěli se jeden jako druhý strachem a řekli Bárukovi: „Všechna tato slova musíme oznámit králi.“17 Požádali Báruka: „Sděl nám, jak jsi všechna tato slova napsal. Z jeho úst?“18 Báruk jim odpověděl: „Vlastními ústy ke mně všechna tato slova pronášel a já jsem je zapisoval černidlem do knihy.“ 19 Velmožové Bárukovi řekli: „Jdi a skryj se i s Jeremjášem, ať nikdo neví, kde jste!“20 Pak vešli ke králi do dvorany. Svitek uschovali v síni písaře Elíšamy a oznámili králi všechna ta slova.
— Král zničí svitek, Báruk pořídí nový - Král se domnívá, že Hospodinovo slovo umlčí, když pobuřující svitek spálí. Prorok na příkaz Hospodinův dává všechna slova sepsat znovu.
21 Král poslal Jehúdího pro svitek. Ten jej vzal ze síně písaře Elíšamy a předčítal z něho králi i všem velmožům, kteří stáli kolem krále.22 Král bydlel v zimním domě, byl totiž devátý měsíc, a na ohništi před ním hořelo.23 Jak Jehúdí přečetl tři čtyři sloupce, král je ze svitku odřízl nožíkem a házel je do ohně na ohništi, až celý svitek na ohništi shořel.24 Král ani jeho služebníci se nezachvěli strachem a neroztrhli svá roucha, když slyšeli všechna ta slova. 25 Ačkoli Elnátan, Delajáš a Gemarjáš na krále naléhali, aby svitek nepálil, neuposlechl je.26 Král přikázal Jerachmeelovi, synu královskému, Serajášovi, synu Azríelovu, a Šelemjášovi, synu Abdeelovu, aby písaře Báruka i proroka Jeremjáše jali; Hospodin je však ukryl. 27 I stalo se k Jeremjášovi slovo Hospodinovo poté, když král spálil svitek se slovy, která zapsal Báruk z Jeremjášových úst:28 „Znovu si vezmi jiný svitek a napiš na něj všechna předešlá slova, která byla na svitku předešlém, který Jójakím, král judský, spálil.29 A Jójakímovi, králi judskému, řekni: Toto praví Hospodin: Ty jsi ten svitek spálil a řekl jsi: ‚Proč jsi na něm napsal, že určitě přitáhne babylónský král a přinese této zemi zkázu, takže v ní nebudou lidé ani dobytek?‘ 30 Proto praví Hospodin o Jójakímovi, králi judském, toto: Nebude mít nikoho, kdo by seděl na Davidově trůnu. Jeho mrtvola bude pohozena na denním vedru a na nočním chladu.31 Jej i jeho potomky a jeho služebníky za jejich nepravosti ztrestám. Uvedu na ně a na obyvatele Jeruzaléma i na muže judské všechno to zlo, které jsem jim ohlásil, a oni neposlechli.“ 32 Jeremjáš vzal tedy jiný svitek, dal jej písaři Bárukovi, synu Nerijášovu, a ten do něho zapsal z Jeremjášových úst všechna slova té knihy, kterou Jójakím, král judský, v ohni spálil. Bylo k nim přidáno ještě mnoho podobných slov.
1Ve čtvrtém roce vlády judského krále Joakima, syna Jošiášova,[1] dostal Jeremiáš slovo od Hospodina:2„Vezmi si svitek a zapiš do něj všechna slova, která jsem k tobě mluvil o Izraeli a Judovi a o všech národech ode dne, kdy jsem k tobě promluvil za dnů Jošiášových až dodnes.3Když dům Judy uslyší o všem tom zlu, které na ně chci dopustit, snad se každý z nich odvrátí od své zlé cesty, abych jim odpustil jejich hříchy a zločiny.“4Jeremiáš tedy zavolal Barucha, syna Neriášova, a nadiktoval mu všechno, co mu Hospodin řekl. Baruch ta slova zapsal do svitku.5Potom Jeremiáš Baruchovi řekl: „Mám zákaz vstupu do Hospodinova domu.6Proto tam jdi ty a přečti lidem Hospodinova slova, která jsi zapsal do svitku, jak jsem ti je diktoval. Přečti je všem, kdo budou v postní den přicházet z judských měst do Hospodinova domu.7Snad začnou Hospodina prosit o slitování a každý se odvrátí od své zlé cesty. Vždyť Hospodin tomuto lidu hrozí velikým a zuřivým hněvem!“8Baruch, syn Neriášův, udělal všechno, co mu prorok Jeremiáš řekl, a v Hospodinově chrámu předčítal z oné knihy slova Hospodinova.9V devátém měsíci pátého roku vlády judského krále Joakima, syna Jošiášova,[2] byl pro veškerý lid v Jeruzalémě i pro veškerý lid, který do Jeruzaléma přicházel z judských měst, vyhlášen půst před Hospodinem.10Tehdy šel Baruch do Hospodinova chrámu, do síně písaře Gemariáše, syna Šafanova, jež stála na horním nádvoří hned vedle vchodu do Nové chrámové brány. Odtud pak všemu lidu předčítal Jeremiášova slova z oné knihy.11Jakmile Michajáš, syn Gemariáše, syna Šafanova, uslyšel všechna Hospodinova slova z té knihy,12odešel do královského paláce, do písařské síně, kde právě zasedali všichni velmoži: písař Elišama, Delajáš, syn Šemajášův, Elnatan, syn Achborův, Gemariáš, syn Šafanův, Cidkiáš, syn Chananiášův a všichni ostatní velmoži.13Michajáš jim oznámil všechno, co slyšel, když Baruch předčítal lidu z oné knihy.14Všichni velmoži tedy poslali Jehudiho, syna Netaniáše, syna Šelemiáše, syna Kušiho, ať Baruchovi vyřídí: „Přijď a vezmi s sebou ten svitek, z něhož jsi předčítal lidu.“ Baruch, syn Neriášův, tedy vzal svitek a přišel za nimi.15„Posaď se a přečti nám to,“ vyzvali ho. Baruch jim to tedy přečetl.16Když uslyšeli všechna ta slova, vyděšeně se podívali jeden na druhého a řekli Baruchovi: „Musíme to všechno oznámit králi.17Pověz nám, jak jsi všechna ta slova sepsal,“ ptali se Barucha. „Diktoval ti to Jeremiáš?“18„Ano, on sám mi všechna ta slova diktoval,“ odpověděl jim Baruch, „a já jsem je zapisoval inkoustem do knihy.“19„Běžte se s Jeremiášem ukrýt,“ řekli na to velmoži Baruchovi. „Ať nikdo neví, kde jste.“20Schovali tedy svitek v síni písaře Elišamy, vstoupili do dvorany před krále a všechno mu to oznámili.21Král poslal Jehudiho pro svitek. Jehudi jej přinesl ze síně písaře Elišamy a začal z něj předčítat králi i všem velmožům stojícím kolem.22Král seděl v zimním křídle svého paláce – byl totiž devátý měsíc – a před ním stála nádoba se sálajícím řeřavým uhlím.23Jakmile Jehudi přečetl tři čtyři sloupce, král je vždy perořízkem odřízl a vhodil do ohně v nádobě. Nakonec v tom ohni skončil celý svitek.24Když král a všichni jeho dvořané slyšeli všechna ta slova, vůbec se nelekali, natož aby si roztrhli roucha.25Ani když Elnatan, Delajáš a Gemariáš krále prosili, aby svitek nepálil, nedal na ně.26Naopak přikázal princi Jerachmeelovi a také Serajášovi, synu Azrielovu, a Šelemiášovi, synu Abdeelovu, aby písaře Barucha i proroka Jeremiáše zatkli. Hospodin je ale skryl.27Poté, co král spálil svitek se slovy, která Baruch zapsal, jak mu je Jeremiáš diktoval, dostal Jeremiáš slovo Hospodinovo:28„Vezmi si další svitek a znovu do něj zapiš všechna slova, která byla v tom prvním svitku, který judský král Joakim spálil.29O judském králi Joakimovi pak řekni: Tak praví Hospodin: Ty jsi ten svitek spálil. Myslel sis: ‚Jak se mohl opovážit napsat, že přijde babylonský král a zničí tuhle zem, takže z ní zmizí lidé i dobytek?‘30A proto tak praví Hospodin o judském králi Joakimovi: Nikdo z jeho potomků nebude sedět na Davidově trůnu. Jeho mrtvola bude pohozena napospas dennímu horku a nočnímu mrazu.31Ztrestám ho, jeho potomky i jeho dvořany za jejich zločiny. Přivedu na ně i na obyvatele Jeruzaléma a na judské muže všechno to zlo, před kterým jsem je varoval, ale nechtěli to poslouchat.“32Jeremiáš tedy vzal jiný svitek a dal ho písaři Baruchovi, synu Neriášovu. Ten do něj zapsal, jak mu Jeremiáš diktoval, všechna slova oné knihy, kterou judský král Joakim spálil v ohni. A bylo k nim přidáno ještě mnoho slov jim podobných.

(Jr 25,3)3Vielleicht hört das Haus Juda all das Unheil, das ich ihnen zu tun gedenke, sodass sie umkehren von ihrem bösen Weg, und ich kann ihnen Schuld und Sünde verzeihen. Auch allen Judäern, die aus ihren Städten herbeiströmen, sollst du sie vorlesen.7Vielleicht gelangt ihr Flehen um Gnade vor den HERRN und sie kehren um, jeder von seinem bösen Weg; denn groß ist der Zorn und Grimm, den der HERR diesem Volk angekündigt hat.8Baruch, der Sohn Nerijas, handelte genau nach dem Auftrag des Propheten Jeremia und las im Haus des HERRN die Worte des HERRN aus dem Buch vor.9Und es geschah: Im fünften Jahr Jojakims, des Sohnes Joschijas, des Königs von Juda, hatte man im neunten Monat ein Fasten vor dem HERRN ausgerufen, für alles Volk in Jerusalem und alle, die aus den Städten Judas nach Jerusalem kamen.10Nun las Baruch im Haus des HERRN dem ganzen Volk aus dem Buch die Worte Jeremias vor, und zwar in der Halle Gemarjas, des Sohnes des Schreibers Schafan, im oberen Vorhof am Eingang des Neuen Tempeltores.11Als Micha, der Sohn Gemarjas, des Sohnes Schafans, alle Worte des HERRN aus dem Buch vernommen hatte,12ging er hinab in den Königspalast zur Halle des Schreibers. Und siehe, dort saßen alle hohen Beamten zusammen: der Schreiber Elischama, Delaja, der Sohn Schemajas, Elnatan, der Sohn Achbors, Gemarja, der Sohn Schafans, Zidkija, der Sohn Hananjas, und alle sonstigen Beamten.13Micha teilte ihnen alle Worte mit, die er gehört hatte, als Baruch dem Volk aus dem Buch vorlas.14Da schickten die versammelten Beamten Jehudi, den Sohn Netanjas, des Sohnes Schelemjas, des Sohnes Kuschis, zu Baruch und ließen ihm sagen: Nimm die Rolle, aus der du dem Volk vorgelesen hast, und komm hierher! Sogleich nahm Baruch, der Sohn Nerijas, die Rolle in seine Hand und kam zu ihnen.15Sie sagten zu ihm: Setz dich und lies sie uns vor! Nun las ihnen Baruch vor.16Als sie all die Worte hörten, schauten sie einander erschrocken an und sagten zu Baruch: Wir müssen unbedingt dem König alle diese Worte mitteilen.17Sie fragten Baruch: Sag uns doch, wie hast du alle diese Worte nach seinem Diktat niedergeschrieben?[1]18Baruch erwiderte ihnen: Jeremia hat mir alle diese Worte diktiert und ich habe sie mit Tinte in das Buch geschrieben.19Darauf sagten die Beamten zu Baruch: Geh und verbirg dich, du und auch Jeremia! Niemand soll wissen, wo ihr seid.20Dann begaben sie sich zum König in den Palasthof, nachdem sie die Rolle in der Halle des Schreibers Elischama verwahrt hatten, und teilten dem König alle Worte mit.21Da sandte der König den Jehudi, um die Rolle zu holen, und dieser holte sie aus der Halle des Schreibers Elischama. Und Jehudi las sie dem König und allen Beamten vor, die um den König standen.22Der König wohnte im Winterhaus, es war ja der neunte Monat, und das Kohlenbecken vor ihm war angezündet.23Und es geschah: Sooft Jehudi drei oder vier Spalten gelesen hatte, schnitt sie der König mit dem Schreibermesser ab und warf sie in das Feuer auf dem Kohlenbecken, bis die ganze Rolle im Feuer auf dem Kohlenbecken vernichtet war.24Weder der König noch alle seine Diener, die alle diese Worte hörten, erschraken und sie zerrissen auch nicht ihre Kleider. (2Kr 22,11)25Selbst als Elnatan, Delaja und Gemarja den König drängten, die Rolle nicht zu verbrennen, hörte er nicht auf sie.26Vielmehr befahl der König dem Prinzen Jerachmeël, ferner Seraja, dem Sohn Asriëls, und Schelemja, dem Sohn Abdeëls, den Schreiber Baruch und den Propheten Jeremia festzunehmen; aber der HERR hielt sie verborgen.27Und das Wort des HERRN erging an Jeremia, nachdem der König die Rolle und die Worte verbrannt hatte, die Baruch nach dem Diktat Jeremias niedergeschrieben hatte:28Nimm dir eine andere Rolle und schreib all die früheren Worte darauf, die auf der ersten Rolle standen, die Jojakim, der König von Juda, verbrannt hat.29Über Jojakim aber, den König von Juda, sollst du sagen: So spricht der HERR: Du hast diese Rolle verbrannt und gesagt: Warum hast du darauf geschrieben, der König von Babel werde bestimmt kommen, dieses Land verheeren und Mensch und Vieh darin vernichten?30Darum - so spricht der HERR über Jojakim, den König von Juda: Er wird keinen Nachkommen mehr haben, der auf dem Thron Davids sitzt, und sein Leichnam soll hinausgeworfen werden in die Hitze des Tags und die Kälte der Nacht. (Jr 22,19)31Ich suche ihn, seine Nachkommen und seine Diener heim für ihre Schuld. Ich bringe über sie, über die Einwohner Jerusalems und die Leute von Juda all das Unheil, das ich ihnen angekündigt habe. Sie aber haben nicht gehört.32Da nahm Jeremia eine andere Rolle und übergab sie dem Schreiber Baruch, dem Sohn Nerijas. Dieser schrieb auf sie nach dem Diktat Jeremias alle Worte des Buches, das Jojakim, der König von Juda, im Feuer verbrannt hatte. Ihnen wurden noch viele ähnliche Worte hinzugefügt.
1In the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from the Lord: (Jr 25,1; Jr 36,9; Jr 45,1)2“Take a scroll and write on it all the words that I have spoken to you against Israel and Judah and all the nations, from the day I spoke to you, from the days of Josiah until today. (Ezd 6,2; Ž 40,7; Jr 1,2; Jr 25,2; Jr 25,3; Jr 25,15; Jr 30,2; Jr 51,60; Ez 2,9; Za 5,1)3It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the disaster that I intend to do to them, so that every one may turn from his evil way, and that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.” (Jr 18,8; Jr 26,3; Jr 31,34; Ez 12,3; Am 5,15; Sf 2,3)4Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah, and Baruch wrote on a scroll at the dictation of Jeremiah all the words of the Lord that he had spoken to him. (Jr 35,2)11When Micaiah the son of Gemariah, son of Shaphan, heard all the words of the Lord from the scroll, (2Pa 34,8; 2Pa 34,15; 2Pa 34,18; Jr 26,24; Jr 40,5)12he went down to the king’s house, into the secretary’s chamber, and all the officials were sitting there: Elishama the secretary, Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, Elnathan the son of Achbor, Gemariah the son of Shaphan, Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the officials. Was it at his dictation?”18Baruch answered them, “He dictated all these words to me, while I wrote them with ink on the scroll.” (Jr 36,32; Ř 16,22)19Then the officials said to Baruch, “Go and hide, you and Jeremiah, and let no one know where you are.”20So they went into the court to the king, having put the scroll in the chamber of Elishama the secretary, and they reported all the words to the king. (Jr 36,12)21Then the king sent Jehudi to get the scroll, and he took it from the chamber of Elishama the secretary. And Jehudi read it to the king and all the officials who stood beside the king.22It was the ninth month, and the king was sitting in the winter house, and there was a fire burning in the fire pot before him. (Jr 36,9; Am 3,15; J 10,22)23As Jehudi read three or four columns, the king would cut them off with a knife and throw them into the fire in the fire pot, until the entire scroll was consumed in the fire that was in the fire pot.24Yet neither the king nor any of his servants who heard all these words was afraid, nor did they tear their garments. (Jz 7,6; Jr 36,16)25Even when Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah urged the king not to burn the scroll, he would not listen to them. (Iz 59,16; Jr 36,12)26And the king commanded Jerahmeel the king’s son and Seraiah the son of Azriel and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel to seize Baruch the secretary and Jeremiah the prophet, but the Lord hid them. (1Kr 22,26; Jr 36,14; Jr 45,1; Sf 1,8)27Now after the king had burned the scroll with the words that Baruch wrote at Jeremiah’s dictation, the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah:28“Take another scroll and write on it all the former words that were in the first scroll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah has burned.29And concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah you shall say, ‘Thus says the Lord, You have burned this scroll, saying, “Why have you written in it that the king of Babylon will certainly come and destroy this land, and will cut off from it man and beast?” (Jr 26,9)30Therefore thus says the Lord concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah: He shall have none to sit on the throne of David, and his dead body shall be cast out to the heat by day and the frost by night. (Jr 22,2; Jr 22,4; Jr 22,19; Jr 22,30)31And I will punish him and his offspring and his servants for their iniquity. I will bring upon them and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem and upon the people of Judah all the disaster that I have pronounced against them, but they would not hear.’” (Jr 1,16)32Then Jeremiah took another scroll and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah, who wrote on it at the dictation of Jeremiah all the words of the scroll that Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire.
