1Tedy řekl Hospodin ke mně: Byť se postavil Mojžíš i Samuel před oblíčejem mým, nikoli srdce nemohu míti k lidu tomuto. Pusť je ode mne, a nechť jdou pryč.2A řeknou-liť: Kam bychom šli? tedy díš jim: Takto praví Hospodin: Kdo k smrti, na smrt, a kdo k meči, pod meč, a kdo k hladu, k hladu, a kdo k zajetí, do zajetí.3Představím zajisté jim to čtvero, dí Hospodin: Meč k zmordování, a psy, aby je rozsmýkali, a ptactvo nebeské i zvěř zemskou, aby je sežrala a zkazila.4A musejí se smýkati po všech královstvích země příčinou Manassesa syna Ezechiášova, krále Judského, pro ty věci, kteréž páchal v Jeruzalémě.5Nebo kdo by se slitoval nad tebou, Jeruzaléme? Přivedu na ně, na matky, na mládence zhoubce i v poledne; způsobím to, aby náhle připadli na to město, i budou zděšeni.9Zemdlí i ta, kteráž rodívala po sedmerém; vypustí duši svou, zapadne jí slunce ještě ve dne, hanbiti a styděti se bude. Ostatek pak jich vydám pod meč před oblíčejem nepřátel jejich, dí Hospodin.10Běda mně, matko má, že jsi mne porodila, muže sváru a muže různice vší zemi. Nepůjčoval jsem jim, aniž mi oni půjčovali, a každý mi zlořečí.11I řekl Hospodin: Zdaliž tobě, kterýž pozůstaneš, nebude dobře? Zdaliž nebudu tvým zástupcím u nepřítele v čas trápení a v čas ssoužení?12Zdaliž železo poláme půlnoční železo a ocel?13Jmění tvé, ó Judo, i poklady tvé vydám v rozchvátání darmo, po všech končinách tvých, a to pro všelijaké hříchy tvé.14A způsobím to, že musíš jíti s nepřátely svými do země cizí, když oheň zanícený v prchlivosti mé na vás pálati bude.15Ty znáš mne, Hospodine, rozpomeň se na mne, a navštěv mne, a pomsti mne nad těmi, kteříž dotírají na mne. Shovívaje jim, nezachvacuj mne; věz, že snáším pro tebe pohanění.16Když se naskytly řeči tvé, snědl jsem je, a měl jsem slovo tvé za radost a potěšení srdce svého, poněvadž jsi ty mne povolal sám, ó Hospodine Bože zástupů.17Nesedám v radě posměvačů, aniž pléši; pro přísnost tvou samotný sedám, nebo prchlivostí naplnils mne.18Proč má býti bolest má věčná, a rána má smrtelná, kteráž se nechce zhojiti? Proč mi býti máš naprosto jako oklamavatelný, jako vody nestálé?19Protož takto praví Hospodin: Jestliže se obrátíš, také tě zase obrátím, abys stál před oblíčejem mým; oddělíš-li věc drahou od ničemné, jako ústa má budeš. Nechť se oni obrátí k tobě, ty pak neobracej se k nim.20Nebo jsem tě postavil proti lidu tomuto jako zed měděnou pevnou. Kteříž bojovati budou proti tobě, ale neodolají tobě; nebo já jsem s tebou, abych tě vysvobozoval a vytrhoval, dí Hospodin.21Vytrhnu tě zajisté z rukou nešlechetníků, a vykoupím tě z ruky násilníků.
— Ani Mojžíš a Samuel nepomohou - Prorok ohlašuje Boží hněv proti Judovi a Jeruzalému. Hospodin už není ochoten slyšet přímluvné prosby.
1 Hospodin mi řekl: „I kdyby se přede mne postavil Mojžíš a Samuel, nepřiklonil bych se k tomuto lidu. Bude se stydět, rdít studem. Ty, kteří zůstanou, vydám meči před tváří jejich nepřátel, je výrok Hospodinův.“

10 Běda mi, matko má, že jsi mě zrodila, muže sporu a sváru pro celou zemi. Nic jsem si nevypůjčil, nikdo mi nepůjčil, všichni mi klnou. 11 Hospodin praví: „Nepřichystal jsem ti dobro? Nesrazil jsem kvůli tobě nepřítele v čase zlém, v čase soužení? 12 Dá se přerazit železo, železo ze severu, či bronz? 13 Tvé zboží a poklady vydám bez náhrady v plen za všechny tvé hříchy, páchané po celém tvém území. 14 Dám tě odvést tvými nepřáteli do země, kterou neznáš. Budou proti tobě bojovat, ale nepřemohou tě, neboť já jsem s tebou, abych tě spasil a vysvobodil, je výrok Hospodinův. 21 Vysvobodím tě z rukou zlovolníků a vykoupím tě ze spárů katanů.“

Budeš mými ústy
10Běda mi, matko, že jsem se ti narodil – muž, který má s celou zemí svár a při! Nic jsem si nevypůjčil, nikdo mi nedluží, a přesto mi všichni zlořečí.11Hospodin praví: „Pro vaše vlastní dobro vás jistě pošlu pryč; přivedu na vás nepřítele v čase bídy, v čase soužení.12Dá se snad ocel ze severu přerazit železem či bronzem?13Vaše bohatství a vaše poklady nechám bez náhrady padnout za kořist kvůli všem hříchům, jež jste páchali po celém vašem území.14Nechám vás otročit vašim nepřátelům v neznámé zemi,[2] neboť můj hněv proti vám už hoří – šlehají z něho plameny!“15Hospodine, ty rozumíš, vzpomeň si na mě, ke mně přijď, pomsti se za mě na mých pronásledovatelích! Ve své trpělivosti mi ještě dovol žít – považ, jaké kvůli tobě snáším urážky!16Jakmile tvá slova přišla, ihned jsem je sněd, tvá slova mě potěšila, vnesla radost do srdce. Hospodine, Bože zástupů, patřím přece tobě!17Nesedávám s těmi, kdo se veselí, neoslavuji s nimi. Sedím sám, protože jsi na mě ruku položil a naplnil mě nevolí.18Proč má bolest nikdy nekončí, proč se má hrozná rána nechce zahojit? Stal ses mi zdrojem zklamání – copak jsi potok bez vody?19Nuže, toto praví Hospodin: „Pokud se obrátíš, já tě obnovím, abys stál přede mnou jako můj služebník. Budeš-li rozlišovat mezi vzácným a bezcenným, budeš mými ústy. Ať se oni obrátí k tobě, ty se neobracej k nim.20Postavil jsem tě proti tomuto lidu jako pevnou bronzovou hradbu. Budou proti tobě bojovat, ale nepřemohou tě – vždyť já jsem s tebou, abych tě zachraňoval a vysvobozoval, praví Hospodin.[3]21Z rukou zlých lidí tě vysvobodím a ze spárů tyranů tě vykoupím.“
