1 Byl pak nemocen člověk nějaký jménem Lazar z Betany, totiž z městečka Marie a Marty, sestry její. 2 (A to byla ta Maria, kteráž pomazala Pána mastí a vytřela nohy jeho vlasy svými, jejížto bratr Lazar byl nemocen.) 3 Tedy poslaly k němu sestry jeho, řkouce: Pane, aj, ten, kteréhož miluješ, nemocen jest. 4 A uslyšav to Ježíš, řekl: Nemoc ta neníť k smrti, ale pro slávu Boží, aby oslaven byl Syn Boží skrze ni. 5 Miloval pak Ježíš Martu i sestru její i Lazara. 6 A jakž uslyšel, že by nemocen byl, i pozůstal za dva dni na tom místě, kdež byl. 7 Potom pak dí učedlníkům: Pojďme zase do Judstva. 8 Řekli jemu učedlníci: Mistře, nyní hledali tě Židé kamenovati, a ty zase tam chceš jíti? 9 Odpověděl Ježíš: Však dvanácte hodin za den jest. Chodí-li kdo ve dne, neurazí se; nebo světlo tohoto světa vidí. 10 Pakliť by kdo chodil v noci, urazíť se; nebo světla není v něm. 11 To pověděl, a potom dí jim: Lazar, přítel náš, spí, ale jduť, abych jej ze sna probudil. 12 I řekli učedlníci jeho: Pane, spí-liť, zdráv bude. 13 Ale Ježíš řekl o smrti jeho, oni pak domnívali se, že by o spání sna mluvil. 14 Tedy řekl jim Ježíš zjevně: Lazar umřel. 15 A raduji se pro vás, že jsem tam nebyl, abyste věřili. Ale pojďme k němu. 16 I řekl Tomáš, kterýž slove Didymus, spoluučedlníkům: Pojďme i my, abychom zemřeli s ním. 17 Tedy přišel Ježíš, i nalezl ho již čtyři dni v hrobě pochovaného. 18 Byla pak Betany blízko od Jeruzaléma, okolo honů patnácte. 19 Mnozí pak z Židů byli přišli k Martě a Mariji, aby je těšili pro smrt bratra jejich. 20 Tedy Marta, jakž uslyšela, že Ježíš jde, vyšla proti němu, ale Maria doma seděla. 21 I řekla Marta k Ježíšovi: Pane, kdybys ty byl zde, bratr můj byl by neumřel. 22 Ale i nyníť vím, že cožkoli požádal bys od Boha, dá tobě Bůh. 23 Dí jí Ježíš: Vstaneť bratr tvůj. 24 Řekla jemu Marta: Vím, že vstane při vzkříšení v den nejposlednější. 25 Řekl jí Ježíš: Já jsem vzkříšení i život. Kdo věří ve mne, byť pak i umřel, živ bude. 26 A každý, kdož jest živ, a věří ve mne, neumřeť na věky. Věříš-li tomu? 27 Řekla jemu: Ovšem, Pane, já jsem uvěřila, že jsi ty Kristus, Syn Boží, kterýž měl přijíti na svět. 28 A když to pověděla, odešla a zavolala tajně Marie, sestry své, řkuci: Mistr zde jest, a volá tebe. 29 Ona jakž to uslyšela, vstala rychle, a šla k němu. 30 (Ještě pak byl Ježíš nepřišel do městečka, ale byl na tom místě, kdež vyšla byla proti němu Marta.) 31 Tedy Židé, kteříž s ní byli v domě a těšili ji, viděvše Mariji, že jest rychle vstala a vyšla, šli za ní, řkouce: Jde k hrobu, aby tam plakala. 32 Ale Maria, když tam přišla, kdež byl Ježíš, uzřevši jej, padla k nohám jeho, a řekla jemu: Pane, bys ty byl zde, bratr můj byl by neumřel. 33 Ježíš pak jakž uzřel, ana pláče, i Židy, kteříž byli s ní přišli, ani plačí, zastonal duchem, a zkormoutil se. 34 A řekl: Kdež jste jej položili? Řkou jemu: Pane, pojď a pohleď. 35 I zaplakal Ježíš. 36 Tedy řekli Židé: Aj, kterak ho miloval! 37 Někteří pak z nich řekli: Nemohl-liž jest tento, kterýž otevřel oči slepého, učiniti i toho, aby tento neumřel? 38 Ježíš pak opět zastonav sám v sobě, přišel k hrobu. Byla pak jeskyně, a kámen byl svrchu položen na ni. 39 I dí Ježíš: Zdvihněte kámen. Řekla jemu Marta, sestra toho mrtvého: Pane, jižť smrdí; nebo čtyři dni v hrobě jest. 40 Dí jí Ježíš: Všakť jsem řekl, že budeš-li věřiti, uzříš slávu Boží. 41 Tedy zdvihli kámen, kdež byl mrtvý pochován. Ježíš pak pozdvihl vzhůru očí a řekl: Otče, děkuji tobě, že jsi mne slyšel. 42 Já zajisté vím, že ty mne vždycky slyšíš, ale pro zástup, kterýž okolo stojí, řekl jsem, aby věřili, že jsi ty mne poslal. 43 A to pověděv, zavolal hlasem velikým: Lazaře, pojď ven! 44 I vyšel, kterýž byl umřel, maje svázané ruce i nohy rouchami, a tvář jeho šatem byla obvinuta. Řekl jim Ježíš: Rozvěžtež jej, a nechte, ať odejde. 45 Tedy mnozí z Židů, kteříž byli přišli k Mariji, viděvše, co jest učinil Ježíš, uvěřili v něho. 46 Někteří pak z nich odešli k farizeům a pověděli jim, co jest učinil Ježíš. 47 I sešli se přední kněží a farizeové v radu, a pravili: Co činíme? Tento člověk divy mnohé činí. 48 Necháme-li ho tak, všickni uvěří v něho, i přijdou Římané, a odejmou místo naše i lid. 49 Jeden pak z nich, jménem Kaifáš, nejvyšším knězem jsa toho léta, řekl jim: Vy nic nevíte, 50 Aniž co o tom přemyšlujete, že jest užitečné nám, aby jeden člověk umřel za lid, a ne, aby všecken tento národ zahynul. 51 Toho pak neřekl sám od sebe, ale nejvyšším knězem byv léta toho, prorokoval, že jest měl Ježíš umříti za tento národ, 52 A netoliko za tento národ, ale také, aby syny Boží rozptýlené shromáždil v jedno. 53 Protož od toho dne spolu se o to radili, aby jej zabili. 54 Ježíš pak již nechodil zjevně mezi Židy, ale odšel odtud do krajiny, kteráž byla blízko pouště, do města, jenž slove Efraim, a tu bydlil s učedlníky svými. 55 Byla pak blízko velikanoc Židovská. I šli mnozí do Jeruzaléma z krajiny té před velikonocí, aby se očistili. 56 I hledali Ježíše, a rozmlouvali vespolek, v chrámě stojíce: Co se vám zdá, že nepřišel k svátku? 57 Vydali pak byli přední kněží a farizeové mandát, jestliže by kdo zvěděl, kde by byl, aby pověděl, aby jej jali.

— Vzkříšení Lazara

1 Byl nemocen jeden člověk, Lazar z Betanie, z vesnice, kde bydlela Marie a její sestra Marta. 2 To byla ta Marie, která pomazala Pána vzácným olejem a nohy mu otřela svými vlasy; a její bratr Lazar byl nemocen. 3 Sestry mu vzkázaly: „Pane, ten, kterého máš rád, je nemocen.“ 4 Když to Ježíš uslyšel, řekl: „Ta nemoc není k smrti, ale k slávě Boží, aby Syn Boží byl skrze ni oslaven.“ 5 Ježíš Martu, její sestru i Lazara miloval. 6 Když uslyšel, že je Lazar nemocen, zůstal ještě dva dny na tom místě, kde byl. 7 Teprve potom řekl svým učedníkům: „Pojďme opět do Judska!“ 8 Učedníci mu řekli: „Mistře, není to dávno, co tě chtěli Židé kamenovat, a zase tam chceš jít?“ 9 Ježíš odpověděl: „Což nemá den dvanáct hodin? Kdo chodí ve dne, neklopýtne, neboť vidí světlo tohoto světa. 10 Kdo však chodí v noci, klopýtá, poněvadž v něm není světla.“ 11 To pověděl a dodal: „Náš přítel Lazar usnul. Ale jdu ho probudit.“ 12 Učedníci mu řekli: „Pane, spí-li, uzdraví se.“ 13 Ježíš mluvil o jeho smrti, ale oni mysleli, že mluví o pouhém spánku. 14 Tehdy jim Ježíš řekl přímo: „Lazar umřel. 15 A jsem rád, že jsem tam nebyl, kvůli vám, abyste uvěřili. Pojďme k němu!“ 16 Tomáš, jinak Didymos, řekl ostatním učedníkům: „Pojďme i my, ať zemřeme spolu s ním!“ 17 Když Ježíš přišel, shledal, že Lazar je již čtyři dny v hrobě. 18 Betanie byla blízko Jeruzaléma, necelou hodinu cesty, 19 a mnozí z Židů přišli k Martě a Marii, aby je potěšili v zármutku nad jejich bratrem. 20 Když Marta uslyšela, že Ježíš přichází, šla mu naproti. Marie zůstala doma. 21 Marta řekla Ježíšovi: „Pane, kdybys byl zde, nebyl by můj bratr umřel. 22 Ale i tak vím, že začkoli požádáš Boha, Bůh ti dá.“ 23 Ježíš jí řekl: „Tvůj bratr vstane.“ 24 Řekla mu Marta: „Vím, že vstane při vzkříšení v poslední den.“ 25 Ježíš jí řekl: „Já jsem vzkříšení a život. Kdo věří ve mne, i kdyby umřel, bude žít. 26 A každý, kdo žije a věří ve mne, neumře navěky. Věříš tomu?“ 27 Řekla mu: „Ano, Pane. Já jsem uvěřila, že ty jsi Mesiáš, Syn Boží, který má přijít na svět.“ 28 S těmi slovy odešla, zavolala svou sestru Marii stranou a řekla jí: „Je tu Mistr a volá tě.“ 29 Jak to Marie uslyšela, rychle vstala a šla k němu. 30 Ježíš totiž dosud nedošel do vesnice, ale byl ještě na tom místě, kde se s ním Marta setkala. 31 Když viděli Židé, kteří byli s Marií v domě a těšili ji, že rychle vstala a vyšla, šli za ní; domnívali se, že jde k hrobu, aby se tam vyplakala. 32 Jakmile Marie přišla tam, kde byl Ježíš, a spatřila ho, padla mu k nohám a řekla: „Pane, kdybys byl zde, nebyl by můj bratr umřel.“ 33 Když Ježíš viděl, jak pláče a jak pláčou i Židé, kteří přišli s ní, v Duchu se rozhorlil a vzrušen 34 řekl: „Kam jste ho položili?“ Řekli mu: „Pane, pojď se podívat!“ 35 Ježíšovi vstoupily do očí slzy. 36 Židé říkali: „Hle, jak jej miloval!“ 37 Někteří z nich však řekli: „Když otevřel oči slepému, nemohl způsobit, aby tento člověk neumřel?“ 38 Ježíš, znovu rozhorlen, přichází k hrobu. Byla to jeskyně a na ní ležel kámen. 39 Ježíš řekl: „Zvedněte ten kámen!“ Sestra zemřelého Marta, mu řekla: „Pane, už je v rozkladu, vždyť je to čtvrtý den.“ 40 Ježíš jí odpověděl: „Neřekl jsem ti, že uvidíš slávu Boží, budeš-li věřit?“ 41 Zvedli tedy kámen. Ježíš pohlédl vzhůru a řekl: „Otče, děkuji ti, žes mě vyslyšel. 42 Věděl jsem sice, že mě vždycky slyšíš, ale řekl jsem to kvůli zástupu, který stojí kolem, aby uvěřili, že ty jsi mě poslal.“ 43 Když to řekl, zvolal mocným hlasem: „Lazare, pojď ven!“ 44 Zemřelý vyšel, měl plátnem svázány ruce i nohy a tvář zahalenu šátkem. Ježíš jim řekl: „Rozvažte ho a nechte odejít!“

45 Mnozí z Židů, kteří přišli k Marii a viděli, co Ježíš učinil, uvěřili v něho. 46 Ale někteří z nich šli k farizeům a oznámili jim, co učinil. 47 Velekněží a farizeové svolali radu a řekli: „Co si počneme? Ten člověk činí mnohá znamení. 48 Když proti němu nezakročíme, všichni v něj uvěří, a přijdou Římané a odejmou nám toto svaté místo i národ.“ 49 Jeden z nich, Kaifáš, velekněz toho roku, jim řekl: „Vy ničemu nerozumíte; 50 nechápete, že je pro vás lépe, aby jeden člověk zemřel za lid, než aby zahynul celý národ.“ 51 To však neřekl sám ze sebe, ale jako velekněz toho roku vyřkl proroctví, že Ježíš má zemřít za národ, 52 a nejenom za národ, ale také proto, aby rozptýlené děti Boží shromáždil vjedno. 53 Od toho dne byli tedy smluveni, že ho zabijí. 54 Proto Ježíš už nechodil veřejně mezi Židy, ale odešel odtud do kraje blízko pouště, do města jménem Efraim, a tam zůstal s učedníky. 55 Bylo krátce před židovskými Velikonocemi a mnozí z té krajiny přišli před svátky do Jeruzaléma, aby se očistili. 56 Hledali Ježíše, a jak stáli v chrámě, říkali si mezi sebou: „Co myslíte? Přijde na svátky?“ 57 Velekněží a farizeové vydali totiž nařízení, že každý, kdo by věděl, kde se zdržuje, má to oznámit, aby ho mohli zatknout.

Ty tam chceš jít znovu?“ 9 Ježíš odpověděl: „Nemá den dvanáct hodin? Půjdu ho probudit.“ 12 „Spánek mu prospěje, Pane,“ řekli mu na to učedníci. 13 Ježíš mluvil o jeho smrti, ale oni si mysleli, že mluví o obyčejném spánku. 14 Proto jim Ježíš řekl jasně: „Lazar zemřel. 15 A kvůli vám jsem rád, že jsem tam nebyl, abyste uvěřili. Ale pojďme k němu.“ 16 Tomáš zvaný Dvojče tehdy ostatním učedníkům řekl: „Pojďme také, ať zemřeme s ním.“ 17 Ježíš dorazil čtyři dny po Lazarově pohřbu. 18 Betanie byla blízko Jeruzaléma, asi patnáct honů,^[2] 19 a mnozí Židé přišli Martu a Marii utěšit ve smutku nad jejich bratrem. 20 Jakmile Marta uslyšela, že přichází Ježíš, vyšla mu naproti, ale Marie zůstala doma. 21 „Pane, kdybys tu byl, můj bratr by nezemřel!“ řekla mu Marta. 22 „I teď ale vím, že o cokoli Boha požádáš, to ti Bůh dá.“ 23 „Tvůj bratr vstane,“ řekl jí Ježíš. 24 „Vím, že vstane – při vzkříšení v poslední den,“ odpověděla Marta. 25 „Já jsem vzkříšení i život,“ řekl jí Ježíš. „Kdo věří ve mě, i kdyby zemřel, bude žít. 26 A každý, kdo žije a věří ve mě, nezemře navěky. Věříš tomu?“ 27 „Ano, Pane,“ odpověděla. „Já jsem uvěřila, že ty jsi Mesiáš, Boží Syn, který má přijít na svět.“ 28 A když to řekla, odešla a tajně zavolala svou sestru Marii: „Mistr je tu a volá tě.“ 29 Ta, jakmile to uslyšela, rychle vstala a šla k němu. 30 (Ježíš ještě nepřišel do vesnice, ale byl na tom místě, kam mu vyšla naproti Marta.) 31 Židé, kteří byli s Marií v domě a utěšovali ji, uviděli, že rychle vstala a šla ven, a tak se k ní přidali. Byla to jeskyně zavalená kamenem. 39 „Odvalte ten kámen,“ řekl Ježíš. „Pane, už zapáchá,“ namítla Marta, sestra mrtvého. „Vždyť je v hrobě čtvrtý den!“ 40 „Neřekl jsem ti, že když budeš věřit, uvidíš Boží slávu?“ odpověděl jí Ježíš. 41 Když pak odstranili kámen od hrobu, Ježíš pozvedl oči a řekl: „Otče, děkuji ti, že jsi mě vyslyšel. 42 Já vím, že mě vždycky slyšíš, ale říkám to kvůli zástupu, který stojí kolem, aby uvěřili, že jsi mě poslal.“ 43 Jakmile to dořekl, hlasitě zvolal: „Lazare, pojď ven!“ 44 A ten, který zemřel, vyšel ven. Ruce i nohy měl svázané plátny a tvář měl ovinutou rouškou. „Rozvažte ho a nechte ho jít,“ řekl jim Ježíš.

45 Mnozí z těch Židů, kteří přišli k Marii a viděli, co Ježíš udělal, v něj tehdy uvěřili. 46 Někteří však odešli k farizeům a pověděli jim, co Ježíš udělal. 47 Vrchní kněží a farizeové shromáždili Veleradu. „Co budeme dělat?“ říkali. „Ten člověk koná mnoho zázračných znamení! 48 Když ho necháme, všichni v něj uvěří! Přijdou Římané a připraví nás o toto posvátné místo i o národ!“ 49 Jeden z nich, Kaifáš, který byl toho roku veleknězem, jim řekl: „Vy nic nevíte! 50 Nechápete, že je pro nás lepší, aby jeden člověk zemřel za lid, než aby celý tento národ zahynul?!“ 51 (To však neřekl sám od sebe, ale protože byl toho roku veleknězem, prorokoval, že Ježíš má zemřít za tento národ. 52 A nejen za tento národ, ale také aby shromáždil rozptýlené Boží děti v jedno.) 53 Od toho dne tedy byli rozhodnuti, že ho zabijí. 54 Ježíš proto už nechodil mezi Židy veřejně, ale odešel odtud do kraje poblíž pouště, do města jménem Efraim, a tam pobýval s učedníky. 55 Blížily se židovské Velikonoce. Mnozí z toho kraje putovali na Velikonoce vzhůru do Jeruzaléma, aby se očistili. 56 Hledali tam Ježíše, a když stáli v chrámu, povídali si mezi sebou: „Co myslíte? Že by nepřišel na svátek?“ 57 Vrchní kněží a farizeové však vydali nařízení, že pokud se někdo dozví, kde je, musí to oznámit, aby ho mohli zatknout.

1 Ein Mann war krank, Lazarus aus Betanien, dem Dorf der Maria und ihrer Schwester Marta. (L 10,38) 2 Maria war jene, die den Herrn mit Öl gesalbt und seine Füße mit ihren Haaren abgetrocknet hatte; deren Bruder Lazarus war krank. (J 12,1) 3 Daher sandten die Schwestern Jesus die Nachricht: Herr, sieh: Der, den du liebst, er ist krank. 4 Als Jesus das hörte, sagte er: Diese Krankheit führt nicht zum Tod, sondern dient der Verherrlichung Gottes. Durch sie soll der Sohn Gottes verherrlicht werden. (J 11,40) 5 Jesus liebte aber Marta, ihre Schwester und Lazarus. 6 Als er hörte, dass Lazarus krank war, blieb er noch zwei Tage an dem Ort, wo er sich aufhielt. 7 Danach sagte er zu den Jüngern: Lasst uns wieder nach Judäa gehen. 8 Die Jünger sagten zu ihm: Rabbi, eben noch suchten dich die Juden zu steinigen und du gehst wieder dorthin? (J 8,59; J 10,31) 9 Jesus antwortete: Hat der Tag nicht zwölf Stunden? Wenn jemand am Tag umhergeht, stößt er nicht an, weil er das Licht dieser Welt sieht; (J 12,35) 10 wenn aber jemand in der Nacht umhergeht, stößt er an, weil das Licht nicht in ihm ist. 11 So sprach er. Dann sagte er zu ihnen: Lazarus, unser Freund, schläft; aber ich gehe hin, um ihn aufzuwecken. 12 Da sagten die Jünger zu ihm: Herr, wenn er schläft, dann wird er gesund werden. 13 Jesus hatte aber von seinem Tod gesprochen, während sie meinten, er spreche von dem gewöhnlichen Schlaf. 14 Darauf sagte ihnen Jesus unverhüllt: Lazarus ist gestorben. 15 Und ich freue mich für euch, dass ich nicht dort war; denn ich will, dass ihr glaubt. 17 Als Jesus ankam, fand er Lazarus schon vier Tage im Grab liegen. 18 Betanien war nahe bei Jerusalem, etwa fünfzehn Stadien entfernt. 19 Viele Juden waren zu Marta und Maria gekommen, um sie wegen ihres Bruders zu trösten. 20 Als Marta hörte, dass Jesus komme, ging sie ihm entgegen, Maria aber blieb im Haus sitzen. 21 Marta sagte zu Jesus: Herr, wärst du hier gewesen, dann wäre mein Bruder nicht gestorben. 22 Aber auch jetzt weiß ich: Alles, worum du Gott bittest, wird Gott dir geben. 23 Jesus sagte zu ihr: Dein Bruder wird auferstehen. 24 Marta sagte zu ihm: Ich weiß, dass er auferstehen wird bei der Auferstehung am Jüngsten Tag. 25 Jesus sagte zu ihr: Ich bin die Auferstehung und das Leben. Wer an mich glaubt, wird leben, auch wenn er stirbt, (J 5,21) 26 und jeder, der lebt und an mich glaubt, wird auf ewig nicht sterben. Glaubst du das? 27 Marta sagte zu ihm: Ja, Herr, ich glaube, dass du der Christus bist, der Sohn Gottes, der in die Welt kommen soll. 47 Da beriefen die Hohepriester und die Pharisäer eine Versammlung des Hohen Rates ein. Sie sagten: Was sollen wir tun? Dieser Mensch tut viele Zeichen. (Mt 26,3; Mk 14,1; L 22,1) 48 Wenn wir ihn gewähren lassen, werden alle an ihn glauben. Dann werden die Römer kommen und uns die heilige Stätte und das Volk nehmen. 49 Einer von ihnen, Kajaphas, der Hohepriester jenes Jahres, sagte zu ihnen: Ihr versteht nichts. 50 Ihr bedenkt nicht, dass es besser für euch ist, wenn ein einziger Mensch für das Volk stirbt, als wenn das ganze Volk zugrunde geht. (2S 20,14; Jon 1,8) 51 Das sagte er nicht aus sich selbst; sondern weil er der Hohepriester jenes Jahres war, sagte er aus prophetischer Eingebung, dass Jesus für das Volk sterben werde. 52 Aber er sollte nicht nur für das Volk sterben, sondern auch, um die versprengten Kinder Gottes wieder zu sammeln. The Death of Lazarus
