1 Stalo se pak v ten čas, že sstupuje Juda od bratří svých, uchýlil se k muži Odolamitskému, jehož jméno bylo Híra. 2 I uzřel tam Juda dceru muže Kananejského, kterýž sloul Sua; a pojav ji, všel k ní. 3 Kterážto počala a porodila syna; i nazval jméno jeho Her. 4 A počavši opět, porodila syna; a nazvala jméno jeho Onan. 5 Porodila pak ještě syna, jehož jméno nazvala Séla. A byl Juda v Chezib, když ona jej porodila. 6 I dal Juda Herovi prvorozenému svému manželku, jménem Támar. 7 A byl Her, prvorozený Judův, zlý před očima Hospodina; i zabil jej Hospodin. 8 Tedy řekl Juda Onanovi: Vejdi k ženě bratra svého, a podlé příbuznosti pojmi ji, abys vzbudil símě bratru svému. 9 Věděl pak Onan, že to símě nebude jeho. Protož kdykoli vcházel k ženě bratra svého, vypouštěl símě na zem, aby nezplodil synů bratru svému. 10 I nelíbilo se Hospodinu to, co dělal Onan; protož ho také zabil. 11 Tedy řekl Juda k Támar nevěstě své: Pobuď v domě otce svého vdovou, dokudž nedoroste Séla, syn můj. (Nebo řekl: Aby on také neumřel, jako i bratří jeho.) I odešla Támar, a bydlila v domě otce svého. 12 A po mnohých dnech umřela dcera Suova, manželka Judova. Kterýžto potěšiv se zas, šel do Tamnas k těm, kteříž střihli ovce jeho, a s ním Híra Odolamitský, přítel jeho. 13 I oznámeno jest Támar těmito slovy: Aj, tchán tvůj vstupuje do Tamnas, aby střihl ovce své. 14 Tedy ona složivši s sebe šaty své vdovské, zavila se v rouchu, a oděla se a seděla na rozcestí, kudy se jde do Tamnas. Nebo viděla, že Séla dorostl, a že není dána jemu za manželku. 15 Kteroužto uzřev Juda, za to měl, že jest nevěstka; nebo zakryla tvář svou. 16 Protož uchýliv se k ní s cesty, řekl: Dopusť medle, ať vejdu k tobě. (Nebo nevěděl, aby nevěsta jeho byla.) I řekla: Co mi dáš, jestliže vejdeš ke mně? 17 Odpověděl: Pošliť kozelce z stáda. Dí ona: Kdybys něco zastavil, dokavadž nepošleš. 18 I řekl: Cožť mám dáti v zástavě? Odpověděla ona: Pečetní prsten svůj, a halži svou, a hůl svou, kterouž máš v ruce své. I dal jí, a všel k ní; a počala z něho. 19 Tedy vstavši, odešla, a sňavši rouchu svou s sebe, oblékla se v šaty své vdovské. 20 I poslal Juda kozelce po příteli svém Odolamitském, aby vzal zase základ od ženy. A nenalezl jí. 21 I ptal se mužů toho místa, řka: Kde jest ta nevěstka, kteráž seděla na rozcestí této cesty? Řekli oni: Nebylotě zde nevěstky. 22 Tedy navrátiv se k Judovi, řekl: Nenašel jsem jí; a také muži místa toho pravili: Nebylo zde nevěstky. 23 I řekl Juda: Nechť sobě to má, abychom neuvedli se v lehkost. Jáť jsem poslal toho kozelce, ale tys jí nenalezl. 24 I stalo se okolo tří měsíců, že oznámili Judovi, řkouce: Dopustila se smilství Támar nevěsta tvá, a jest již i těhotná z smilství. I řekl Juda: Vyveďte ji, aby byla upálena. 25 Když pak vedena byla, poslala k tchánu svému, řkuci: Z muže, jehož tyto věci jsou, těhotná jsem. A při tom řekla: Pohleď, prosím, čí jsou tyto věci, pečetní prsten, halže a hůl tato? 26 Tedy pohleděv na to Juda, řekl: Spravedlivějšíť jest než já, poněvadž jsem nedal jí Sélovi synu svému. A více jí nepoznával. 27 Stalo se pak, že když přišel čas porodu jejího, aj, bliženci v životě jejím. 28 A když rodila, jeden z nich vyskytl ruku, kteroužto chytivši baba, uvázala na ni červenou nitku, řkuci: Ten vyjde prvé. 29 Když pak vtáhl ruku svou zase, hle, vyšel bratr jeho. I řekla: Jak jsi protrhl? Tvéť jest protržení. I nazváno jest jméno jeho Fáres. 30 A potom vyšel bratr jeho, kterýž měl na ruce nitku červenou. I nazváno jest jméno jeho Zára.

JUDA A TÁMAR - Juda se přízní s Kenaanci. Jeho snacha Támar usiluje o zachování potomstva a zrodí Peresa a Zeracha.

Judova manželka, dcera Šúova, zemřela. Když se Juda utěšil, putoval se svým adulámským přítelem Chírou za střihači svých ovcí do Timny. 13 Oznámili Támaře: „Tvůj tchán putuje do Timny ke stříži svých ovcí.“ 14 Tu odložila vdovské šaty, zastřela se rouškou, zahalila se a posadila se při vstupu do Énajimu, který je u cesty do Timny. A ona s ním otěhotněla. 19 Hned nato odešla, odložila roušku a oděla se do vdovských šatů. 20 Juda pak poslal kůzle po svém adulámském příteli, aby vyzvedl od té ženy zástavu; ten ji však nenalezl. 21 Vyptával se mužů toho místa: „Kde je ta kněžka, která byla v Énajimu u cesty?“ Odpověděli: „Žádná kněžka zde nebyla.“ 22 Vrátil se k Judovi a řekl: „Nenašel jsem ji. Také mužové toho místa pravili: ‚Žádná kněžka zde nebyla.‘“ 23 Juda řekl: „Ať si to nechá; jen když nebudeme v opovržení. Vždyť jsem to kůzle poslal, ale tys ji nenašel.“ 24 Asi po třech měsících bylo Judovi oznámeno: „Tvá snacha Támar se dopustila smilstva a dokonce je již z toho smilstva těhotná.“ Juda řekl: „Vyveďte ji, ať je upálena.“ 25 Když už ji vedli, poslala svému tchánovi vzkaz: „Jsem těhotná s mužem, jemuž patří tyhle věci.“ A dodala: „Pohleď jen pozorně, čí je toto pečetidlo, šňůrka a hůl!“ 26 Juda si je pozorně prohlédl a řekl: „Je spravedlivější než já; nedal jsem ji svému synu Šelovi.“ A už k ní nikdy nevešel. 27 Nastala chvíle jejího porodu, a hle, v jejím životě byla dvojčata. 28 Když rodila, jedno vystrčilo ruku. Porodní bába na ni rychle přivázala karmínovou nitku a řekla: „Toto vyjde první.“ 29 Ono však stáhlo ruku zpět, a hle, vyšel jeho bratr. Řekla: „Jakou trhlinou ses prodral!“ A pojmenovali ho Peres (to je Trhlina). 30 Potom vyšel jeho bratr, který měl na ruce karmínovou nitku. Toho pojmenovali Zerach (to je Rozbřesk).

Měl od té ženy vyzvednout zástavu, ale nemohl ji najít. 21 Vyptával se místních mužů: „Kde je ta prostitutka, co seděla v Enajim u cesty?“ Řekli mu ale: „Tady žádná prostitutka nikdy nebyla.“ 22 A tak se vrátil k Judovi se slovy: „Nemohl jsem ji najít. Místní muži mi navíc řekli, že tam žádná prostitutka nikdy nebyla.“ 23 Juda odpověděl: „Ať si to tedy nechá, abychom neměli ostudu. To kůzle jsem jí přece poslal, ale tys ji nemohl najít.“ 24 Asi za tři měsíce bylo Judovi oznámeno: „Tvoje snacha Támar se zachovala jako nevěstka! Auch ließ sie sagen: Sieh genau hin: Wem gehören der Siegelring, die Schnüre und dieser Stab? 26 Juda sah genau hin und gab zu: Sie ist mir gegenüber im Recht, weil ich sie meinem Sohn Schela nicht zur Frau gegeben habe. Danach verkehrte er mit ihr nicht mehr. 27 Als die Zeit kam, dass sie gebären sollte, siehe, da waren Zwillinge in ihrem Leib. 28 Bei der Geburt streckte einer die Hand heraus. Die Hebamme griff zu, band einen roten Faden um die Hand und sagte: Dieser ist zuerst herausgekommen. 29 Als er aber seine Hand zurückzog, siehe, da kam sein Bruder heraus. Da sagte sie: Warum hast du dir den Durchbruch erzwungen? So gab man ihm den Namen Perez - Durchbruch -. 30 Dann erst kam sein Bruder zum Vorschein, an dessen Hand der rote Faden war. 2 There Judah saw the daughter of a certain Canaanite whose name was Shua. He took her and went in to her, (1Pa 2,3) 3 and she conceived and bore a son, and he called his name Er. (Gn 46,12; Nu 26,19) 4 She conceived again and bore a son, and she called his name Onan. (Gn 38,3) 5 Yet again she bore a son, and she called his name Shelah. Judah^[1] was in Chezib when she bore him. So whenever he went in to his brother’s wife he would waste the semen on the ground, so as not to give offspring to his brother. 10 And what he did was wicked in the sight of the Lord, and he put him to death also. 11 Then Judah said to Tamar his daughter-in-law, “Remain a widow in your father’s house, till Shelah my son grows up”—for he feared that he would die, like his brothers. 13 And when Tamar was told, “Your father-in-law is going up to Timnah to shear his sheep,” 14 she took off her widow’s garments and covered herself with a veil, wrapping herself up, and sat at the entrance to Enaim, which is on the road to Timnah. 15 When Judah saw her, he thought she was a prostitute, for she had covered her face. 16 He turned to her at the roadside and said, “Come, let me come in to you,” for he did not know that she was his daughter-in-law. She said, “What will you give me, that you may come in to me?” 17 He answered, “I will send you a young goat from the flock.” And she said, “If you give me a pledge, until you send it—” 18 He said, “What pledge shall I give you?” She replied, “Your signet and your cord and your staff that is in your hand.” So he gave them to her and went in to her, and she conceived by him. Also, the men of the place said, ‘No cult prostitute has been here.’” 23 And Judah replied, “Let her keep the things as her own, or we shall be laughed at. 25 As she was being brought out, she sent word to her father-in-law, “By the man to whom these belong, I am pregnant.” And she said, “Please identify whose these are, the signet and the cord and the staff.” (Gn 38,18) 26 Then Judah identified them and said, “She is more righteous than I, since I did not give her to my son Shelah.” And he did not know her again. (Gn 38,14; 1S 24,17) 27 When the time of her labor came, there were twins in her womb. 28 And when she was in labor, one put out a hand, and the midwife took and tied a scarlet thread on his hand, saying, “This one came out first.” 29 But as he drew back his hand, behold, his brother came out. 1 And it came to pass at that time, that Judah went down from his brethren, and turned in to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah. 2 And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite, whose name was Shuah; and he took her, and went in unto her. 3 And she conceived, and bare a son; and he called his name Er. 4 And she conceived again, and bare a son; and she called his name Onan. 5 And she yet again conceived, and bare a son; and called his name Shelah: and he was at Chezib, when she bare him. 6 And Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, whose name was Tamar. 7 And Er, Judah' firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him. 8 And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother' wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother. 9 And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother' wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother. 10 And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also. 11 Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter in law, Remain a widow at thy father' house, till Shelah my son be grown: for he said, Lest peradventure he die also, as his brethren did . And Tamar went and dwelt in her father' house. 12 And in process of time the daughter of Shuah Judah' wife died; and Judah was comforted, and went up unto his sheepshearers to Timnath, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite. 13 And it was told Tamar, saying, Behold thy father in law goeth up to Timnath to shear his sheep. 14 And she put her widow' garments off from her, and covered her with a vail, and wrapped herself, and sat in an open place, which is by the way to Timnath; for she saw that Shelah was grown, and she was not given unto him to wife. 15 When Judah saw her, he thought her to be an harlot; because she had covered her face. 16 And he turned unto her by the way, and said, Go to, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee; (for he knew not that she was his daughter in law.) And she said, What wilt thou give me, that thou mayest come in unto me? 17 And he said, I will send thee a kid from the flock. And she said, Wilt thou give me a pledge, till thou send it ? 18 And he said, What pledge shall I give thee? And she said, Thy signet, and thy bracelets, and thy staff that is in thine hand. And he gave it her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him. 19 And she arose, and went away, and laid by her vail from her, and put on the garments of her widowhood. 20 And Judah sent the kid by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive his pledge from the woman' hand: but he found her not. 21 Then he asked the men of that place, saying, Where is the harlot, that was openly by the way side? And they said, There was no harlot in this place . 22 And he returned to Judah, and said, I cannot find her; and also the men of the place said, that there was no harlot in this place . 23 And Judah said, Let her take it to her, lest we be shamed: behold, I sent this kid, and thou hast not found her. 24 And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar thy daughter in law hath played the harlot; and also, behold, she is with child by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt. 25 When she was brought forth, she sent to her father in law, saying, By the man, whose these are, am I with child: and she said, Discern, I pray thee, whose are these, the signet, and bracelets, and staff. 26 And Judah acknowledged them , and said, She hath been more righteous than I; because that I gave her not to Shelah my son. And he knew her again no more. 27 And it came to pass in the time of her travail, that, behold, twins were in her womb. 28 And it came to pass, when she travailed, that the one put out his hand: and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying, This came out first. 29 And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came out: and she said, How hast thou broken forth? this breach be upon thee: therefore his name was called Pharez. 30 And afterward came out his brother, that had the scarlet thread upon his hand: and his name was called Zarah.
