1Jákob pak bydlil v zemi putování otce svého, v zemi Kananejské.2Tito jsou příběhové Jákobovi: Jozef, když byl v sedmnácti letech, pásl s bratřími svými dobytek, (a byl mládeneček), s syny Bály a Zelfy, žen otce svého. Z té příčiny ještě více nenáviděli ho pro sny jeho, a pro slova jeho.9Potom ještě měl jiný sen, a vypravoval jej bratřím svým, řka: Hle, opět jsem měl sen, a aj, slunce a měsíc, a jedenácte hvězd klanělo mi se.10I vypravoval otci svému a bratřím svým. A domlouval mu otec jeho, a řekl jemu: Jakýž jest to sen, kterýž jsi měl? Zdaliž přijdeme, já a matka tvá i bratří tvoji, abychom se klaněli před tebou až k zemi?11Tedy záviděli mu bratří jeho; ale otec jeho měl pozor na tu věc.12Odešli pak bratří jeho, aby pásli dobytek otce svého v Sichem.13A řekl Izrael Jozefovi: Zdaliž nepasou bratří tvoji v Sichem: Poď, a pošli tě k nim. Kterýžto odpověděl: Aj, teď jsem.14I řekl jemu: Jdi nyní, zvěz, jak se mají bratří tvoji, a co se děje s dobytkem; a zase mi povíš o tom. A tak poslal ho z údolí Hebron, a on přišel do Sichem.15Našel ho pak muž nějaký, an bloudí po poli. I zeptal se ho muž ten, řka: Čeho hledáš?16Odpověděl: Bratří svých hledám; pověz mi, prosím, kde oni pasou?17I řekl muž ten: Odešli odsud; nebo slyšel jsem je, ani praví: Poďme do Dothain. A pozdvihše očí svých, uzřeli, a aj, množství Izmaelitských přicházejících z Galád, kteřížto na velbloudích svých nesli vonné věci a kadidlo a mirru do Egypta.26I řekl Juda bratřím svým: Jaký zisk míti budeme, zabijeme-li bratra svého, a zatajíme-li krve jeho?27Poďte, prodejme ho Izmaelitským, a nevztahujme na něj rukou svých, nebo bratr náš, tělo naše jest. I uposlechli ho bratří jeho.28Když pak mimo ně jeli muži ti, kupci Madianští, vytáhli a vyvedli Jozefa z té čisterny, a prodali jej Izmaelitským za dvadceti stříbrných. Ti zavedli Jozefa do Egypta.29A navrátil se Ruben k čisterně, a aj, již nebylo Jozefa v ní. I roztrhl roucha svá.30A navrátiv se k bratřím svým, řekl: Pacholete není, a já kam se mám podíti?31Tedy vzali sukni Jozefovu, a zabivše kozla, smočili sukni tu ve krvi.32A poslali sukni tu proměnných barev, a dali ji donésti k otci svému, aby řekli: Tuto jsme nalezli; pohleď nyní, jest-li sukně syna tvého, či není?33A on poznav ji, řekl: Sukně syna mého jest; zvěř lítá sežrala jej, konečně roztrhán jest Jozef.34I roztrhl Jákob roucha svá, a vloživ žíni na bedra svá, zámutek nesl po synu svém za mnoho dní.35Sešli se pak všickni synové jeho, a všecky dcery jeho, aby ho těšili. Ale on nedal se potěšiti, a řekl: Nýbrž já tak v zámutku sstoupím za synem svým do hrobu. A plakal ho otec jeho.36Mezi tím Madianští prodali Jozefa do Egypta Putifarovi, dvořeninu Faraonovu, hejtmanu žoldnéřů.
JOSEF A JEHO BRATŘI - Bratři nenávidí Josefa, kterého otec obzvlášť miluje. Snaží se ho zahubit a prodají ho do Egypta.
1 I usadil se Jákob v zemi, v níž jeho otec pobýval jako host, v zemi kenaanské.2 Toto je rodopis Jákobův. Sedmnáctiletý Josef pásal se svými bratry ovce. Byl to mládenec, který býval se syny žen svého otce, Bilhy a Zilpy. Josef přinášel svému otci o svých bratrech zlé zprávy.3 Izrael Josefa miloval ze všech svých synů nejvíce; vždyť to byl syn jeho stáří. Proto mu udělal pestře tkanou suknici.4 Když bratři viděli, že ho otec miluje nade všechny bratry, začali ho nenávidět a nepromluvili na něho pokojného slova. 5 Jednou měl Josef sen a pověděl jej svým bratrům; nenáviděli ho pak ještě více.6 Řekl jim totiž: „Slyšte prosím, jaký jsem měl sen:7 Vážeme na poli snopy. Tu povstane můj snop a zůstane stát. A hle, vaše snopy obcházely kolem něho a klaněly se mému snopu.“8 Bratři mu odpověděli: „To budeš nad námi kralovat jako král či mezi námi vládnout jako vladař?“ A nenáviděli ho pro jeho sny a pro jeho slova ještě víc.9 Měl pak ještě jiný sen a vypravoval jej svým bratrům: „Měl jsem opět sen: Klanělo se mi slunce, měsíc a jedenáct hvězd.“10 To vyprávěl otci a bratrům. Otec ho okřikl: „Jaký žes to měl sen? Že i já, tvá matka a tvoji bratři přijdeme, abychom se před tebou skláněli k zemi?“11 Bratři na něho žárlili, ale otec na to nepřestával myslet. 12 Bratři pak odešli, aby pásli ovce svého otce v Šekemu.13 Tu Izrael řekl Josefovi: „Zdalipak nepasou tvoji bratři v Šekemu? Pojď, rád bych tě za nimi poslal.“ On mu odvětil: „Tu jsem.“14 Izrael mu řekl: „Jdi a podívej se, je-li s tvými bratry a s ovcemi vše v pořádku, a podej mi zprávu.“ Poslal ho tedy z chebrónské doliny a on přišel do Šekemu.15 Tu ho nalezl nějaký muž, jak bloudí po poli, a zeptal se ho: „Co hledáš?“16 Odvětil: „Hledám své bratry. Pověz mi prosím, kde pasou.“17 Muž mu řekl: „Odtáhli odtud. Slyšel jsem, jak říkají: ‚Pojďme do Dótanu.‘“ Josef tedy šel za svými bratry a nalezl je v Dótanu.18 Jakmile ho v dálce spatřili, ještě než se k nim přiblížil, smluvili se proti němu, že ho usmrtí.19 Řekli si mezi sebou: „Hle, mistr snů sem přichází!20 Pojďte, zabijme ho! Pak ho vhodíme do některé cisterny a řekneme: Sežrala ho divá zvěř. A uvidíme, co bude z jeho snů!“21 Když to uslyšel Rúben, rozhodl se vysvobodit ho z jejich rukou. Zvolal: „Přece ho nebudeme ubíjet!“22 Dále jim Rúben řekl: „Neprolévejte krev. Vhoďte ho do cisterny, která je ve stepi, ale ruku na něj nevztahujte!“ Chtěl ho z rukou bratrů vysvobodit a přivést k otci.23 Jakmile Josef přišel k bratrům, strhli z něho suknici, tu suknici pestře tkanou, kterou měl na sobě.24 Vzali ho a hodili do cisterny. Cisterna byla prázdná, bez vody. 25 Pak se posadili, aby jedli chléb. Tu se rozhlédli a spatřili, jak od Gileádu přichází karavana Izmaelců; jejich velbloudi nesli ladanum, mastix a masti. Ti přivedli Josefa do Egypta.29 Když se Rúben vrátil k cisterně, vidí, že tam Josef není. Roztrhl své roucho,30 vrátil se k bratrům a naříkal: „Ten hoch tam není. Co si jen, co si jen počnu?“ 31 Tu vzali bratři Josefovu suknici, porazili kozla a suknici namočili v krvi.32 Tu pestře tkanou suknici pak dali donést otci se vzkazem: „Tohle jsme nalezli. Pozorně si to prosím prohlédni: Je to suknice tvého syna, nebo není?“33 Když si ji prohlédl, zvolal: „Suknice mého syna! Sežrala ho divá zvěř! Rozsápán, rozsápán je Josef!“34 I roztrhl Jákob svůj šat, přes bedra přehodil žíněné roucho a truchlil pro syna mnoho dní.35 Přišli všichni jeho synové a všechny jeho dcery, aby ho potěšili, ale on se potěšit nedal. Naříkal: „Ve smutku sestoupím za synem do podsvětí.“ Tak oplakával otec Josefa.36 A Medanci ho prodali do Egypta faraónovu dvořanu Potífarovi, veliteli tělesné stráže.

To se ti já s tvojí matkou a bratry máme klanět k zemi?“11Bratři pak na něj žárlili, ale jeho otec o tom všem přemýšlel.12Když pak jeho bratři odešli pást ovce svého otce do Šechemu,13řekl Izrael Josefovi: „Nešli tvoji bratři pást do Šechemu? Pojď, pošlu tě za nimi.“ Odpověděl mu: „Jsem připraven.“14Izrael mu řekl: „Jdi se prosím podívat, zda jsou tví bratři i ovce v pořádku, a přijď mi to povědět.“ A tak ho vyslal z hebronského údolí. Když dorazil k Šechemu,15potkal ho nějaký muž. Viděl, že bloudí krajinou, a zeptal se ho: „Co hledáš?“16„Hledám své bratry,“ odpověděl Josef. „Řekni mi prosím, kde pasou.“17Muž odvětil: „Odešli odsud. Slyšel jsem je říkat: ‚Pojďme k Dotanu.‘“ Josef se tedy vydal za svými bratry a poblíž Dotanu je našel.18Spatřili ho už zdálky, a ještě než k nim dorazil, domluvili se, že ho zabijí.19Řekli si spolu: „Podívejme, přichází mistr snů!20Pojďme ho zabít. Hodíme ho do nějaké jámy a řekneme: Sežrala ho divoká zvěř! Uvidíme, co pak bude z jeho snů!“21Když to však uslyšel Ruben, chtěl ho před nimi zachránit, a tak řekl: „Neberme mu život!“22Ruben pokračoval: „Neprolévejme krev; hoďme ho do téhle jámy zde v pustině, ale nevztahujme na něj ruku!“ (To řekl, aby ho před nimi zachránil a vrátil ho jeho otci.)23A tak se stalo, že když Josef přišel ke svým bratrům, strhli mu suknici, tu zdobenou suknici, co nosil,24popadli ho a hodili do jámy. A ta jáma byla prázdná, bez vody.25Potom se posadili k jídlu. Pozvedli oči a hle, spatřili od Gileádu přicházet karavanu Izmaelitů. Co teď, co si počnu?“31A tak vzali Josefovu suknici, zabili kozla a namočili ji do krve.32Potom tu zdobenou suknici poslali svému otci. Nechali mu ji donést se slovy: „Tohle jsme našli. Poznáváš v tom suknici svého syna?“33Poznal ji hned: „To je suknice mého syna! Sežrala ho divá zvěř! Rozsápán, Josef je rozsápán!“34Jákob v zoufalství roztrhl svůj plášť, přepásal se pytlovinou a truchlil nad svým synem po mnoho dní.35Všichni jeho synové i dcery vstali a šli ho utěšit, ale on se nedal utěšit a říkal: „Nikoli! Půjdu za svým synem do hrobu v zármutku!“ A tak ho jeho otec oplakával.36Midiánci zatím Josefa v Egyptě prodali faraonovu dvořanu Potifarovi, veliteli stráže.

Und ich, wohin soll ich nun gehen?31Da nahmen sie Josefs Gewand, schlachteten einen Ziegenbock und tauchten das Gewand in das Blut.32Dann schickten sie den bunten Rock zu ihrem Vater und ließen ihm sagen: Das haben wir gefunden. Sieh doch genau nach, ob das der Rock deines Sohnes ist oder nicht!33Als er ihn genau angesehen hatte, sagte er: Der Rock meines Sohnes! Ein wildes Tier hat ihn gefressen. Zerfetzt ist Josef, zerfetzt.34Jakob zerriss seine Kleider, legte ein Trauergewand an und trauerte um seinen Sohn viele Tage.35Alle seine Söhne und Töchter machten sich auf, um ihn zu trösten. Er aber ließ sich nicht trösten und sagte: Ich will voller Trauer zu meinem Sohn in die Unterwelt hinabsteigen. So beweinte ihn sein Vater.36Die Midianiter aber verkauften Josef nach Ägypten an Potifar, einen Hofbeamten des Pharao, den Obersten der Leibwache.

Joseph, being seventeen years old, was pasturing the flock with his brothers. He was a boy with the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah, his father’s wives. Behold, the sun, the moon, and eleven stars were bowing down to me.”10But when he told it to his father and to his brothers, his father rebuked him and said to him, “What is this dream that you have dreamed? 12Now his brothers went to pasture their father’s flock near Shechem. (Gn 33,18)13And Israel said to Joseph, “Are not your brothers pasturing the flock at Shechem? Come, I will send you to them.” And he said to him, “Here I am.”14So he said to him, “Go now, see if it is well with your brothers and with the flock, and bring me word.” So he sent him from the Valley of Hebron, and he came to Shechem. (Gn 13,18; Gn 35,27)15And a man found him wandering in the fields. And the man asked him, “What are you seeking?”16“I am seeking my brothers,” he said. “Tell me, please, where they are pasturing the flock.”17And the man said, “They have gone away, for I heard them say, ‘Let us go to Dothan.’” So Joseph went after his brothers and found them at Dothan. (2Kr 6,13)18They saw him from afar, and before he came near to them they conspired against him to kill him. 1And Jacob dwelt in the land wherein his father was a stranger, in the land of Canaan.2These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brethren; and the lad was with the sons of Bilhah, and with the sons of Zilpah, his father' wives: and Joseph brought unto his father their evil report.3Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours.4And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him.5And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more.6And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed:7For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf.8And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us?
