1 Živa pak byla Sára sto a sedmmecítma let; ta jsou léta života Sáry. 2 A umřela v městě Arbe, kteréž slove Hebron, v zemi Kananejské. I přišel Abraham, aby kvílil nad Sárou, a plakal jí. 3 Potom vstav Abraham od mrtvého svého, mluvil k synům Het, řka: 4 Hostem a příchozím jsem u vás; dejte mi místo ku pohřbu u vás, abych pochoval mrtvého svého od tváři své. 5 A odpovídajíce synové Het Abrahamovi, řekli jemu: 6 Slyš nás, pane milý! Kníže Boží jsi u prostřed nás, v nejpřednějších hrobích našich pochovej mrtvého svého; žádný z nás hrobu svého nebude zbraňovati tobě, abys neměl pochovati v něm mrtvého svého. 7 Abraham pak vstav, poklonil se lidu země té, totiž synům Het. 8 A mluvil s nimi, řka: Jestliže se vám líbí, abych pochoval mrtvého svého od tváři své, slyšte mne, a přimluvte se za mne k Efronovi synu Sohar, 9 Ať mi dá jeskyni Machpelah, kterouž má na konci pole svého; za slušné peníze ať mi ji dá u prostřed vás, k dědičnému pohřbu. 10 (Ten pak Efron seděl u prostřed synů Het.) Tedy odpověděl Efron Hetejský Abrahamovi při přítomnosti synů Het, přede všemi, kteříž vcházejí do brány města jeho, řka: 11 Nikoli, pane můj, ale slyš mne: Pole to dávám tobě, dávámť také i jeskyni, kteráž na něm jest; před očima synů lidu svého dávám ji tobě; pochovejž mrtvého svého. 12 Tedy poklonil se Abraham před lidem země té, 13 A mluvil k Efronovi v přítomnosti lidu země, řka: A však jestliže ty jsi ten, prosím, vyslyš mne! Dámť stříbro za pole, vezmi je ode mne, a pochovám mrtvého svého tam. 14 A odpovídaje Efron Abrahamovi, řekl jemu: 15 Můj pane, poslechni mne: Země ta za čtyři sta lotů stříbrných jest; ale mezi mnou a tebou co jest o to? Mrtvého svého pochovej. 16 I uposlechl Abraham Efrona, a odvážil mu stříbra, jakž oznámil při přítomnosti synů Het, čtyři sta lotů stříbrných, běžných mezi kupci. 17 A odvedeno jest pole Efronovo, kteréž bylo v Machpelah, proti Mamre, pole a jeskyně na něm, a všecko stromoví, což ho na tom poli i na všech mezech jeho vůkol, 18 Abrahamovi v držení, před očima synů Het, a všech, kteříž vcházejí do brány města toho. 19 A potom pochoval Abraham Sáru,manželku svou, v jeskyni pole Machpelah, proti Mamre, (to slove Hebron), v zemi Kananejské. 20 Protož odevzdáno jest pole to i jeskyně, kteráž byla na něm, Abrahamovi k dědičnému pohřbu od synů Het.

— Smrt a hrob Sáry - Abraham kupuje pohřebiště, aby měl vlastní hrob, a pochovává svou ženu.

1 Sára byla živa sto dvacet sedm let; to jsou léta Sářina života. 2 Zemřela v Kirjat-arbě, což je Chebrón v kenaanské zemi. Abraham přišel, aby nad Sárou naříkal a oplakával ji. 3 Pak od zemřelé vstal a promluvil k Chetejcům: 4 „Jsem tu u vás host a přistěhovalec. Nikdo z nás ti neodepře svůj hrob, abys mohl zemřelou pohřbít.“ 7 Abraham se nato Chetejcům, lidu té země, uklonil 8 a promluvil k nim dále: „Souhlasíte-li, abych zde svou zemřelou pohřbil, slyšte vy mne: Přimluvte se za mne u Efróna, syna Sócharova, 9 ať mi přenechá svou makpelskou jeskyni, která je na konci jeho pole; ať mi ji před vámi přenechá za plnou cenu stříbra, abych měl vlastní hrob.“ 10 Efrón zasedal uprostřed Chetejců. Efrón chetejský tedy Abrahamovi v přítomnosti Chetejců odpověděl přede všemi, kteří měli přístup do rady v bráně toho města: 11 „Nikoli, pane; slyš ty mne. To pole je tvé, i ta jeskyně na něm je tvá; dávám ti ji před očima synů svého lidu. Tam pochovej svou zemřelou.“ 12 I uklonil se Abraham před lidem té země 13 a v přítomnosti lidu té země pravil Efrónovi: „Raději slyš ty mne. Dám za to pole stříbro. Vezmi je ode mne a já tam svou zemřelou pochovám.“ 14 Efrón Abrahamovi odpověděl: 15 „Pane, slyš ty mne. Pozemek má cenu čtyř set šekelů stříbra. Co to pro nás znamená? Jen pochovej svou zemřelou.“ 16 Abraham souhlasil a odvážil Efrónovi stříbro, jak on sám v přítomnosti Chetejců navrhl, čtyři sta šekelů stříbra, běžných mezi obchodníky. 17 Tak připadlo Efrónovo pole v Makpele naproti Mamre, pole i s jeskyní na něm a všechno stromoví na poli i na všem jeho pomezí kolem, 18 do Abrahamova majetku před očima Chetejců, všech, kdo měli přístup do rady v bráně jeho města. 19 Abraham potom svou ženu Sáru pohřbil v té jeskyni na poli v Makpele naproti Mamre, jež je u Chebrónu v kenaanské zemi. 20 Tak připadlo pole Chetejců i s jeskyní na něm Abrahamovi, aby měl vlastní hrob.

Ať mi ji uprostřed vás poskytne za plnou cenu ve stříbře jako pohřebiště.“ 10 Efron Chetejský ovšem seděl mezi ostatními Chetejci. Odpověděl Abrahamovi přede všemi Chetejci vcházejícími do brány jeho města: 11 „Nikoli, můj pane. Poslyš mne: To pole ti dávám, dávám ti i jeskyni, která je na něm. Dávám ti je v přítomnosti synů svého lidu; pochovej svou mrtvou.“ 12 Abraham se před lidem té země poklonil a v přítomnosti lidu té země 13 promluvil k Efronovi: „Kéž bys mne, prosím, raději vyslyšel. Dám ti za to pole peníze. Přijmi je ode mne, ať tam pochovám svou mrtvou.“ 14 Efron Abrahamovi odpověděl: 15 „Poslyš mne, můj pane. Ta země stojí 400 šekelů^[1] stříbra. Co je to pro tebe a pro mě? Pochovej svou mrtvou!“ 16 Abraham Efrona vyslechl a odvážil mu množství stříbra, které zmínil před ostatními Chetejci: 400 šekelů stříbra běžných mezi obchodníky. 17 Efronovo pole v Makpele naproti Mamre – pole i s jeskyní stojící na něm, i se všemi stromy rostoucími po obvodu pole – to vše tenkrát přešlo 18 do Abrahamova vlastnictví před očima Chetejců, přede všemi, kdo vcházejí do brány jeho města. 19 Poté Abraham pochoval svou manželku Sáru v jeskyni pole Makpela naproti Mamre (což je Hebron) v kanaánské zemi. 20 Tak tedy to pole i s jeskyní, která je na něm, přešlo od Chetejců do Abrahamova vlastnictví jako pohřebiště.

1 Das Leben Saras währte hundertsiebenundzwanzig Jahre; das waren die Lebensjahre Saras. 2 Sara starb in Kirjat-Arba, das ist Hebron, im Land Kanaan. Abraham kam, um die Totenklage für Sara zu halten und sie zu beweinen. 3 Danach stand Abraham auf, ging von seiner Toten weg und redete mit den Hetitern. Er sagte: 4 Fremder und Beisasse bin ich unter euch. Gebt mir ein Grab bei euch als Eigentum, damit ich meine Tote hinausbringen und begraben kann! 5 Die Hetiter antworteten Abraham: 6 Hör uns an, mein Herr! Du bist ein Gottesfürst in unserer Mitte. In der vornehmsten unserer Grabstätten begrabe deine Tote! Keiner von uns wird dir seine Grabstätte versagen und deiner Toten das Begräbnis verweigern. 7 Da stand Abraham auf, verneigte sich tief vor dem Volk des Landes, vor den Hetitern, 8 und redete mit ihnen und sagte: Wenn es in eurem Sinne ist, dass ich meine Tote hinausbringe und begrabe, dann hört mich an und setzt euch für mich ein bei Efron, dem Sohn Zohars! 9 Er soll mir die Höhle von Machpela geben, die ihm gehört, am Rand seines Feldes. Zum vollen Geldwert soll er sie mir geben als Grabstätte und Eigentum mitten unter euch. 10 Efron saß mitten unter den Hetitern. Der Hetiter Efron antwortete Abraham, sodass es die Hetiter, alle, die zum Tor seiner Stadt Zutritt hatten, hören konnten: 11 Nein, mein Herr, höre mich an: Ich gebe dir das Feld und die Höhle darauf gebe ich dir; in Gegenwart der Söhne meines Volkes gebe ich sie dir. Begrab deine Tote! 12 Da verneigte sich Abraham tief vor dem Volk des Landes 13 und sagte zu Efron, sodass es das Volk des Landes hören konnte: Ach, möchtest du mich nur anhören: Ich zahle das Geld für das Feld. Nimm es von mir an, damit ich dort meine Tote begrabe! 14 Efron antwortete Abraham: 15 Mein Herr, höre mich an! Land im Wert von vierhundert Silberstücken, was bedeutet das schon unter uns? Begrab nur deine Tote! 16 Abraham hörte auf Efron und wog dem Efron den Geldbetrag ab, den er in Gegenwart der Hetiter genannt hatte, vierhundert Silberstücke zum üblichen Handelswert. 17 So ging das Feld Efrons in Machpela gegenüber von Mamre, das Feld mit der Höhle darauf und mit allen Bäumen auf dem Feld in seiner ganzen Ausdehnung ringsum, 18 an Abraham über, als ein erworbenes Eigentum, in Gegenwart der Hetiter, aller, die zum Tor seiner Stadt Zutritt hatten. 19 Dann begrub Abraham seine Frau Sara in der Höhle des Grundstücks von Machpela gegenüber von Mamre, das jetzt Hebron heißt, im Land Kanaan. 20 Das Feld samt der Höhle darauf war also von den Hetitern als Grabstätte in das Eigentum Abrahams übergegangen. Sarah’s Death and Burial

5 The Hittites answered Abraham, 6 “Hear us, my lord; you are a prince of God^[2] among us. Bury your dead in the choicest of our tombs. None of us will withhold from you his tomb to hinder you from burying your dead.” 7 Abraham rose and bowed to the Hittites, the people of the land. 8 And he said to them, “If you are willing that I should bury my dead out of my sight, hear me and entreat for me Ephron the son of Zohar, 9 that he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he owns; it is at the end of his field. For the full price let him give it to me in your presence as property for a burying place.” 10 Now Ephron was sitting among the Hittites, and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the hearing of the Hittites, of all who went in at the gate of his city, (Gn 34,20; Gn 34,24; Rt 4,1) 11 “No, my lord, hear me: I give you the field, and I give you the cave that is in it. In the sight of the sons of my people I give it to you. Accept it from me, that I may bury my dead there.” 14 Ephron answered Abraham, 15 “My lord, listen to me: a piece of land worth four hundred shekels^[3] of silver, what is that between you and me? Bury your dead.” (Ex 30,13; Ez 45,12) 16 Abraham listened to Ephron, and Abraham weighed out for Ephron the silver that he had named in the hearing of the Hittites, four hundred shekels of silver, according to the weights current among the merchants. (1Pa 21,25; Jr 32,9; Za 11,12) 17 So the field of Ephron in Machpelah, which was to the east of Mamre, the field with the cave that was in it and all the trees that were in the field, throughout its whole area, was made over (Gn 25,9; Gn 49,29; Gn 50,13) 18 to Abraham as a possession in the presence of the Hittites, before all who went in at the gate of his city. 19 After this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah east of Mamre (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan. 20 The field and the cave that is in it were made over to Abraham as property for a burying place by the Hittites.
