1Bylo pak jedenáctého léta, třetího měsíce, prvního dne téhož měsíce, že se stalo slovo Hospodinovo ke mně, řkoucí:2Synu člověčí, rci Faraonovi králi Egyptskému i množství jeho: K komu jsi podoben v své velikosti?3Aj, Assur byl jako cedr na Libánu, pěkných ratolestí, a větvovím zastěňující, a vysokého zrůstu, jehož vrchové byli mezi hustými větvemi.4Vody k zrůstu přivedly jej, propast jej vyvýšila, potoky jejími opuštěn byl vůkol kmen jeho, ješto jen praménky své vypouštěla na všecka dříví polní.5Takž se vyvýšil zrůst jeho nade všecka dříví polní, a rozmnožili se výstřelkové jeho, a pro hojnost vod roztáhly se ratolesti jeho, kteréž vypustil.6Na ratolestech jeho hnízdilo se všelijaké ptactvo nebeské, a pod větvemi jeho rodili se všelijací živočichové polní, a v stínu jeho sedali všickni národové velicí.7I byl ušlechtilý pro svou velikost, a pro dlouhost větví svých; nebo kořen jeho byl při vodách mnohých.8Cedrové v zahradě Boží nepřikryli ho, jedle nevrovnaly se ratolestem jeho, a stromové kaštanoví nebyli podobni větvem jeho. Žádné dřevo v zahradě Boží nebylo rovné jemu v kráse své.9Ozdobil jsem jej množstvím větvoví jeho, tak že mu záviděla všecka dříví Eden, kteráž byla v zahradě Boží.10Protož takto praví Panovník Hospodin: Proto že vysoce vyrostl, a vypustil vrch svůj mezi husté větvoví, a pozdvihlo se srdce jeho příčinou vysokosti jeho:11Protož vydal jsem jej v ruku nejsilnějšího z národů, aby s ním přísně nakládal; pro bezbožnost jeho vyhnal jsem jej.12A tak vyťali jej cizozemci, nejukrutnější národové, a nechali ho tu. Po horách i po všech údolích opadly větve jeho, a slomeny jsou ratolesti jeho na všecky prudké potoky té země. Pročež vystoupili z stínu jeho všickni národové země, a opustili jej.13Na němž padlém bydlí všelijaké ptactvo nebeské, a na ratolestech jeho jsou všelijací živočichové polní,14Proto aby se nevyvyšovalo v zrostu svém žádné dříví při vodách, a aby nevypouštělo vrchů svých mezi hustými větvemi, a nevypínalo se nad jiné vysokostí svou žádné dřevo zapojené vodami, proto že všickni ti oddáni jsou k smrti, dolů do země mezi syny lidské s těmi, kteříž sstupují do jámy.15Takto praví Panovník Hospodin: Toho dne, v kterýž on sstoupil do hrobu, přivedl jsem k kvílení, a přikryl jsem příčinou jeho propast, a zadržel jsem potoky její, aby se zastavily vody mnohé, a učinil jsem, aby smutek nesl příčinou jeho Libán, a všecko dříví polní příčinou jeho aby umdlelo.16Od hřmotu pádu jeho učinil jsem, že se třásli národové, když jsem jej svedl do hrobu s těmi, kteříž sstupují do jámy. Nad čímž se potěšila na zemi dole všecka dříví Eden, což výborného a dobrého jest na Libánu, vše což zapojeného jest vodou.17I ti s ním sstoupili do hrobu k těm, kteříž jsou zbiti mečem, i rámě jeho, i kteříž sedali v stínu jeho u prostřed národů.18Kterému z stromů Eden podoben jsi tak v slávě a velikosti? Však svržen budeš s dřívím Eden dolů na zem, mezi neobřezanci s zbitými mečem lehneš. Toť jest Farao i všecko množství jeho, praví Panovník Hospodin.
— Podobenství o cedru - Farao je varován příkladem Ašúru, který se podobal libanónskému cedru a přece byl ze své výše sražen do jámy.
1 Jedenáctého roku v třetím měsíci, prvního dne toho měsíce, stalo se ke mně slovo Hospodinovo:2 „Lidský synu, řekni faraónovi, králi egyptskému, i jeho hlučícímu davu: Komu se podobáš ve své velikosti? 3 Hle, Ašúr byl jako cedr na Libanónu, krásně rozvětvený, vrhající hluboký stín, vysokého vzrůstu, jeho vrcholek byl mezi košatými korunami. 4 Vody mu daly velikost, propastná tůň ho vyhnala do výše, její proudy protékaly kolem místa, kde byl vysazen; své potůčky vysílala ke všem stromům pole. 5 Proto se svým vzrůstem vynášel nad všechny stromy pole, jeho větve se rozrostly, ratolesti se prodloužily díky hojným vodám, když vyrůstal. 6 V jeho větvích hnízdilo kdejaké nebeské ptactvo, pod jeho ratolestmi se rodila kdejaká polní zvěř, v jeho stínu sídlily kdejaké početné pronárody. 7 Byl krásný svou velikostí a délkou svého větvoví, neboť zakořenil u hojných vod. 8 Nepřesahovaly ho cedry v zahradě Boží, cypřiše se nevyrovnaly jeho větvím, platany nebyly jako jeho ratolesti. Žádný strom v zahradě Boží se mu krásou nevyrovnal. 9 Krásným jsem jej učinil množstvím jeho větvoví, záviděly mu všechny stromy Edenu, které byly v zahradě Boží.“ 10 Proto praví Panovník Hospodin toto: „Protože se vynáší svým vzrůstem, vyhnal totiž svůj vrcholek mezi košaté koruny a pro jeho výšku se pozdvihlo jeho srdce,11 vydám jej do rukou samovládce nad pronárody a ten s ním naloží podle své zvůle; zapudím ho.12 Cizáci, nejkrutější z pronárodů, ho vytnou a odvrhnou. Jeho větvoví padne na hory a do všech údolí. Jeho ratolesti se roztříští a padnou do všech řečišť země. Všechny národy země vystoupí z jeho stínu a odvrhnou ho. 13 Až padne, usadí se na něm kdejaké nebeské ptactvo, mezi jeho ratolestmi bude kdejaká polní zvěř. 14 Aby se žádný strom u vod nevynášel svým vzrůstem a nevyháněl svůj vrcholek mezi košaté koruny, aby se žádný mohutný strom nestavěl svou výškou nad ostatní stromy napájené vodami, budou všichni vydáni smrti, do nejhlubších útrob země, mezi lidské syny, k těm, kdo sestupují do jámy.“ 15 Toto praví Panovník Hospodin: „V den, kdy sestoupí do podsvětí, zavřu nad ním propastnou tůň a způsobím, aby truchlila, zadržím její proudy, hojné vody budou zastaveny. Zármutkem nad ním sklíčím Libanón a všechny stromy pole pro něho povadnou.16 Hřmotem jeho pádu otřesu pronárody, až jej srazím do podsvětí s těmi, kdo sestupují do jámy. V nejhlubších útrobách země se potěší všechny stromy Edenu, vše výborné a líbezné, co bylo na Libanónu, co bývalo napájeno vodou.17 Také ti, kdo byli jeho paží, ti, kdo přebývali v jeho stínu mezi pronárody, sestoupí spolu s ním do podsvětí ke skoleným mečem.18 Kterému ze stromů Edenu ses podobal slávou i velikostí? Se stromy Edenu budeš sražen do nejhlubších útrob země, mezi neobřezance, budeš ležet mezi skolenými mečem. Tak dopadne farao i celý jeho hlučící dav, je výrok Panovníka Hospodina.“
1Prvního dne třetího měsíce jedenáctého roku[1] jsem dostal slovo Hospodinovo:2„Synu člověčí, řekni faraonovi, králi Egypta, a jeho hordám: Kdo se ti může vznešeností vyrovnat?3Hle, Asýrie byla jak cedr v Libanonu s krásnými větvemi a stinnou korunou, cedr neobyčejného vzrůstu se špicí sahající k oblakům.4Vody mu daly jeho vzrůst, tyčil se dík hlubokým pramenům proudícím kolem jeho kořenů dál k ostatním stromům v okolí.5Takto se tyčil do výšky nad všechny stromy v okolí. Měl větví stále víc a víc, jeho ratolesti rostly do délky, dík množství vláhy košatil.6Všichni ptáci hnízdili v jeho koruně, pod jeho větvemi rodila všechna zvěř, v jeho stínu žily všechny mocné národy.7Svou velikostí byl nádherný a svými dlouhými větvemi, protože zapouštěl kořeny až k vodám vydatným.8Ani cedry v Boží zahradě nebyly jemu naroveň; jeho větvím se nerovnaly ani cypřiše, platany nepředčily jeho haluze; žádný strom v Boží zahradě mu nebyl krásou podoben.9Udělal jsem ho nádherně, tak bohatým na větve; celý Eden mu mohl závidět – všechny stromy v Boží zahradě!10Nuže, tak praví Panovník Hospodin: Protože se tyčil tak vysoko a špicí sahal až k oblakům, takže jeho srdce tou výškou zpychlo,11vydám jej do rukou vůdce národů, aby s ním naložil, jak si za svou špatnost zaslouží. Zavrhl jsem ho12a cizáci, ti nejukrutnější mezi pohany, jej porazili a nechali ho být. Jeho větve padly na hory i všechna údolí, jeho haluze leží polámány ve všech roklích na zemi. Všechny národy země opustily jeho stín a nechaly ho být.13Na jeho padlém kmeni hnízdí všelijací ptáci a mezi jeho větvemi je všelijaká zvěř.14To proto, aby se už žádné stromy u vody takto netyčily do výšky, aby svou špicí nesahaly k oblakům a ve své pýše se nestavěly nad ostatní stromy napájené vodami. Jeden jak druhý přece musí umřít – směřují pod zem mezi smrtelníky, kteří sestupují do jámy.15Tak praví Panovník Hospodin: V den, kdy sestoupil do podsvětí, zahalil jsem hlubinu smutkem nad ním; zadržel jsem její prameny, až se ty vydatné vody zastavily. I Libanon jsem kvůli němu zachmuřil a všechny lesní stromy kvůli němu povadly.16Rachotem jeho pádu jsem rozechvěl národy, když jsem ho srazil do podsvětí k těm, kdo klesli do jámy. Pod zemí tehdy došly útěchy všechny stromy Edenu, ty nejlepší ze skvělých stromů napájených v Libanonu.17I ony totiž jako on sestoupily do podsvětí k mečem pobitým, stejně jako jeho spojenci žijící v jeho stínu mezi národy.18Který strom v Edenu se ti mohl slávou a vznešeností vyrovnat? Stejně jako ty edenské stromy však skončíš mezi neobřezanci dole pod zemí, ulehneš k mečem pobitým. Tak je tomu s faraonem a se všemi jeho hordami, praví Panovník Hospodin.“

1Es geschah im elften Jahr, im dritten Monat, am ersten Tag des Monats, da erging das Wort des HERRN an mich:2Menschensohn, sag zum Pharao, dem König von Ägypten, und zu seinem Gefolge:
Wem warst du in deiner Größe vergleichbar? (Ez 29,2; Ez 32,2)3Siehe, Assur: / Eine Zeder auf dem Libanon,
prächtig war das Geäst, / reichlich der Schatten, / hoch der Wuchs
und in die Wolken ragte ihr Wipfel. (Ez 17,3; Ez 19,11; Ez 32,22; Da 4,7)4Wasser machte sie groß. / Die Flut in der Tiefe ließ sie hoch emporwachsen.
Ihre Ströme flossen rings um den Ort, / wo sie gepflanzt war,
sie leitete ihre Kanäle / zu allen Bäumen des Feldes. (Ez 17,7; Ez 34,29)5Darum war sie höher gewachsen / als alle Bäume des Feldes.
Ihre Zweige wurden sehr zahlreich / und ihre Äste breiteten sich aus
wegen des Reichtums an Wasser, / als sie emporwuchs.6Alle Vögel des Himmels / hatten ihr Nest in ihren Zweigen.
Alle wilden Tiere / brachten unter den Ästen ihre Jungen zur Welt.
All die vielen Nationen / wohnten in ihrem Schatten. (Ez 17,23)7Schön war sie in ihrer Größe / mit ihrem breiten Geäst;
denn ihre Wurzeln / hatten viel Wasser.8Keine Zeder im Garten Gottes / war ihr vergleichbar.
Keine Zypresse hatte Zweige wie sie, / keine Platane so mächtige Äste wie sie.

Voll Eifersucht auf sie waren im Garten Gottes / alle Bäume von Eden.10Darum - so spricht GOTT, der Herr: Weil du so hoch emporwuchsest - da sie mit ihrem Wipfel in die Wolken ragte und ihr Herz wegen ihrer Höhe überheblich wurde -, (Da 5,20)11deshalb gebe ich sie in die Hand des Herrschers der Nationen. Er handelt, ja behandelt sie nach ihrer Schlechtigkeit; ich vertreibe sie.12Fremde, die gewalttätigsten unter den Völkern, werden sie umhauen und hinwerfen. Ihre Zweige fallen auf die Berge und in alle Täler, ihre Äste zerbrechen in allen Schluchten der Erde. Alle Völker der Erde verlassen den Schatten der Zeder und lassen sie liegen.13Auf ihren gefällten Stamm setzen sich alle Vögel des Himmels, die wilden Tiere hausen in ihren Zweigen.14Dies, damit keiner der Bäume am Wasser sich seiner Größe wegen erhebt und mit seinem Wipfel in die Wolken ragt und keiner der vom Wasser getränkten Bäume in seiner Größe gegen sie aufsteht. Denn sie alle werden dem Tod ausgeliefert und sie müssen in das Land der Tiefe hinab inmitten der Menschensöhne, zu denen, die in die Grube hinabgestiegen sind.15So spricht GOTT, der Herr: Am Tag, da die Zeder in die Unterwelt hinabsteigt, rufe ich Trauer aus, ich bedecke ihretwegen die Flut; ich halte ihre Ströme zurück, sodass der Reichtum an Wasser versiegt. Ihretwegen hülle ich den Libanon in Trauer und alle Bäume des Feldes sinken ihretwegen in Ohnmacht.
