1Byl pak muž z pokolení Beniamin, jménem Cis, syn Abiele syna Seror, syna Bechorat, syna Afia, syna muže Jemini, muž udatný.2Ten měl syna jménem Saule, mládence krásného, tak že žádného z synů Izraelských nebylo pěknějšího nad něj; od ramene svého vzhůru převyšoval všecken lid.3Byly se pak ztratily oslice Cis, otce Saulova. I řekl Cis Saulovi synu svému: Vezmi i hned s sebou jednoho z služebníků, a vstana, jdi, hledej oslic.4A tak šel přes horu Efraim, a prošel až do země Salisa, a nic nenalezli; prošli také zemi Sálim, a nic nenalezli. Ještě přešli i zemi Jemini, a nenalezli.5Když pak přišli do země Zuf, řekl Saul služebníku svému, kterýž byl s ním: Poď, a navraťme se, aby otec můj nechaje těch oslic, neměl starosti o nás.6Kterýž řekl jemu: Aj, nyní muž Boží jest v městě tomto, a muž ten jest znamenitý; cožkoli praví, všecko se tak stává. Medle, jděme tam, zdali by oznámil nám cestu naši, kterouž bychom jíti měli.7Odpověděl Saul služebníku svému: Aj, půjdeme. Co pak přineseme muži tomu? Nebo jsme chléb vytrávili z pytlíků našich, ani daru nemáme, kterýž bychom přinesli muži Božímu. Což máme?8I doložil služebník, odpovídaje Saulovi, a řekl: Hle, nalezl jsem u sebe čtvrt lotu stříbra; to dám muži Božímu, aby nám oznámil cestu naši.9(Za starodávna v Izraeli tak říkával každý, kdož jíti měl raditi se s Bohem: Poďte, a půjdeme až k vidoucímu. Nebo ten, kterýž nyní slove prorok, za starodávna sloul vidoucí.)10Řekl tedy Saul služebníku svému: Dobrá jest řeč tvá, nu, jděmež. I šli do města, v kterémž byl muž Boží.11A když vcházeli na horu města, potkali se s děvečkami, vycházejícími vážit vody. I řekli jim: Jest-li zde vidoucí?12Kteréž odpověděly jim a řekly: Jest. Hle, a on před tebou, pospěš tedy; nebo dnes přišel do města, proto že obětuje dnes lid na té hoře.13Hned jakž vejdete do města, tedy naleznete ho, prvé než vstoupí na horu k jídlu. Lid zajisté nebude jísti, dokudž on nepřijde, nebo on požehná obětí, a potom pozvaní jísti budou. A protož jděte, nebo v tuto chvíli naleznete ho.14I šli do města. A když vcházeli do prostřed města, aj, Samuel vycházel proti nim, aby vstoupil na tu horu.15Hospodin pak zjevil Samuelovi o jeden den prvé, nežli přišel Saul, řka:16V tuto chvíli zítra pošli k tobě muže z země Beniamin, kteréhož pomažeš, aby byl vůdce lidu mého Izraelského, a vysvobodíť lid můj z ruky Filistinských; vzhlédlť jsem zajisté na lid svůj, nebo přišlo volání jeho ke mně.17A když Samuel uzřel Saule, řekl jemu Hospodin: Aj, teď ten muž, o kterémž pravil jsem tobě: tenť spravovati bude lid můj.18Tedy přistoupil Saul k Samuelovi v bráně, a řekl: Ukaž mi, prosím, kde jest tuto dům vidoucího?19I odpověděl Samuel Saulovi: Já jsem vidoucí. Vstupiž přede mnou na horu, a budete dnes jísti se mnou; potom ráno propustím tě, a cožkoli jest v srdci tvém, oznámím tobě.20O oslice pak, kteréžť se ztratily dnes třetí den, nic se nestarej, nebo nalezeny jsou. Ale na koho žádost všeho Izraele? Zdali ne na tebe a na všecken dům otce tvého?21I odpověděl Saul a řekl: Zdaliž já nejsem syn Jemini, z nejmenšího pokolení Izraelského? Ano i čeled má jest nejchaternejší ze všech čeledí pokolení Beniaminova. Pročež jsi tedy ke mně mluvil taková slova?22A pojav Samuel Saule i služebníka jeho, uvedl je do pokoje, a dal jim místo nejpřednější mezi pozvanými, jichž bylo okolo třidcíti mužů.23I řekl Samuel kuchaři: Dej sem ten díl, kterýž jsem dal tobě, o kterémžť jsem řekl: Schovej jej obzvláštně.24Když tedy přinesl kuchař plece i s tím, což se ho přídrželo, položil Samuel před Saule, a řekl: Teď, což pozůstalo, vezmi sobě, jez; až k této chvíli zajisté zachováno jest to pro tebe, jakž jsem řekl: Lidu jsem pozval. I jedl Saul s Samuelem v ten den.25A když sešli s hory do města, mluvil s Saulem na vrchní podlaze.26Potom vstali velmi ráno. I stalo se, když záře vzcházela, že zavolal Samuel Saule na hůru, řka: Vstaň, a propustím tě. Vstal tedy Saul, a vyšli oba ven, on i Samuel.27A když přicházeli na konec města, řekl Samuel Saulovi: Rci služebníku, ať jde napřed, (i šel); ty pak pozastav se málo, ažť oznámím řeč Boží.
— Pomazání Saula za krále - Při hledání ztracených oslic se Saul dostane k Samuelovi, který ho z rozkazu Hospodinova pomaže za vévodu nad Izraelem. Při návratu se Saul octne mezi proroky.
1 Byl muž z Benjamínova pokolení jménem Kíš, syn Abíela, syna Seróra, syna Bekórata, syna Afíacha, syna jednoho Jemínce, statečný bohatýr.2 Ten měl syna jménem Saul, hezkého mladíka. Mezi Izraelci nebylo hezčího muže nad něj; od ramen vzhůru převyšoval všechen lid.3 Saulovu otci Kíšovi se ztratily oslice. Kíš proto řekl svému synu Saulovi: „Vezmi s sebou některého z mládenců a vydej se ty oslice hledat.“4 Prošel tedy Efrajimské pohoří, prošel zemi Šališu, ale nenašli nic. Prošel též zemi Šaalím, a nikde nic. Prošel i zemi Jemíní, a nenašli nic.5 Když přišli do země Súfu, řekl Saul svému mládenci, který byl s ním: „Pojď, vraťme se, aby můj otec místo o oslice neměl obavy o nás.“6 On mu řekl: „Hle, v tom městě je muž Boží. A ten muž je vážený. Všechno, co řekne, se skutečně stane. Pojďme tedy tam, snad nám oznámí, kterou cestou se máme dát.“7Saul svému mládenci odvětil: „Tak pojďme! Ale co tomu muži přineseme? Vždyť chléb nám v brašně došel. Nemáme dárek, který bychom muži Božímu přinesli. Co máme u sebe?“8 Nato mládenec Saulovi odpověděl: „Mám u sebe čtvrt šekelu stříbra. Dám jej muži Božímu, a on nám oznámí cestu.“ 9 Když se dříve někdo v Izraeli šel dotazovat Boha, říkal: „Nuže, pojďme k vidoucímu.“ Dnešní prorok se dříve nazýval vidoucí. 10 Saul svému mládenci řekl: „Dobře jsi promluvil. Nuže, pojďme.“ A šli do města, kde byl muž Boží.11 Když stoupali do svahu k městu, zastihli dívky, které šly čerpat vodu. Otázali se jich: „Je zde vidoucí?“12 „Ano, je,“ odpověděly, „máš ho před sebou. Pospěš si! Právě dnes přišel do města, protože lid má dnes na posvátném návrší obětní hod.13 Až vejdete do města, zastihnete ho, ještě než vystoupí na posvátné návrší, kde se bude jíst. Lid totiž nebude jíst, dokud on nepřijde. Teprve až on požehná obětnímu hodu, budou pozvaní jíst. Jděte tedy nahoru, dnes ho zastihnete.“14 Stoupali tedy k městu. Když přicházeli do středu města, zrovna proti nim vycházel Samuel, aby vystoupil na posvátné návrší. 15 Den před Saulovým příchodem odhalil Hospodin Samuelovu uchu toto:16 „Zítra touto dobou pošlu k tobě muže z benjamínské země. Pomažeš ho za vévodu nad mým izraelským lidem; on můj lid vysvobodí z rukou Pelištejců. Pohlédl jsem na svůj lid, jehož úpěnlivé volání ke mně proniklo.“17 Když Samuel uviděl Saula, Hospodin ho upozornil: „To je ten muž, o němž jsem ti řekl, že bude spravovat můj lid.“18 Vtom Saul přistoupil uprostřed brány k Samuelovi a řekl: „Pověz mi prosím, kde je tu dům vidoucího.“19 Samuel Saulovi odpověděl: „Já jsem vidoucí. Vystup přede mnou na posvátné návrší, dnes budete jíst se mnou. Ráno tě propustím a odpovím ti na vše, co máš na srdci.20 Pokud jde o oslice, které se ti před třemi dny ztratily, neměj o ně starost, neboť se nalezly. Koho si však Izrael tolik žádá? Zdalipak ne tebe a celý dům tvého otce?“ 21 Saul odpověděl: „Což nejsem Benjamínec? Z těch nejmenších izraelských kmenů? A má čeleď je ze všech čeledí Benjamínova kmene nejnepatrnější! Jak mi můžeš říkat něco takového?“ 22 Ale Samuel vzal Saula i jeho mládence, uvedl je do hodovní síně a dal jim místo v čele pozvaných. Těch bylo na třicet mužů.23 Kuchařovi Samuel řekl: „Podej tu část, kterou jsem ti dal a o níž jsem ti řekl: Ulož ji u sebe.“24 Kuchař pozdvihl kýtu i to, co bylo na ní, a položil vše před Saula. Samuel řekl: „Hle, polož před sebe, co zůstalo, a jez. Bylo to uchováno pro tebe na tento slavnostní okamžik.“ A dodal: „Proto jsem svolal lid.“ Tak jedl onoho dne Saul se Samuelem.25 Potom sestoupili z posvátného návrší do města a Samuel mluvil se Saulem na střeše.26 Za časného jitra, když vycházela jitřenka, zavolal Samuel na Saula na střeše: „Vstaň, propustím tě.“ Saul tedy vstal a oba, on i Samuel, vyšli ven.27 Sestupovali k okraji města. Tu řekl Samuel Saulovi: „Řekni mládenci, ať jde před námi.“ A když je předešel: „A ty se na chvíli zastav, ohlásím ti Boží slovo.“

Prošel kraj Jemini, a pořád nic nenašli.5Když dorazili až do kraje Cuf, řekl Saul mládenci, kterého měl s sebou: „Pojďme se vrátit, ať se můj otec místo o oslice nezačne bát o nás.“6„Víš co?“ odpověděl mu mládenec. „V tomhle městě bývá Boží muž. Je to vážený člověk; všechno, co řekne, se opravdu stane. Co se tam teď vydat? Třeba nám ukáže cestu, kterou máme jít.“7Saul mu na to řekl: „Co ale tomu muži přineseme, když za ním půjdeme? Jídlo nám už v mošnách došlo. Nemáme pro Božího muže žádnou odměnu. Co u sebe máme?“8„Podívej,“ odpověděl mládenec Saulovi, „mám u sebe čtvrt šekelu[1] stříbra. Dám je Božímu muži, aby nám ukázal cestu.“9(Když se v dávných dobách v Izraeli někdo šel dotázat Boha, říkal: Pojďme, půjdeme za vidoucím. Dnešní prorok byl tehdy nazýván vidoucí.)10„Dobrá,“ řekl Saul svému mládenci, „pojďme tedy.“ A tak šli do města, kde byl Boží muž.11Když pak stoupali nahoru k městu, potkali se s děvečkami, které vyšly pro vodu. „Je tu vidoucí?“ zeptali se jich.12„Ano,“ odpověděly jim, „kousek před tebou. Pospěš si! Přišel dnes do města, protože lidé pořádají na návrší obětní hostinu.13Vyhledejte ho, hned jak přijdete do města, než se vydá k hostině na návrší. Lidé nezačnou jíst, dokud nepřijde, protože on má obětní hod požehnat. Teprve pak se pozvaní dají do jídla. Když vyrazíte hned, zastihnete ho právě včas.“14Šli tedy do města. Jakmile vešli do města, hle – proti nim jde Samuel a míří vzhůru na návrší.15Den před Saulovým příchodem Hospodin Samuelovi prozradil:16„Zítra touto dobou k tobě pošlu muže z kraje Benjamín a ty ho pomažeš za vůdce nad mým lidem Izraelem. On vysvobodí můj lid z ruky Filištínů. Shlédl jsem totiž na svůj lid, neboť ke mně dolehl jejich nářek.“17Jakmile Samuel spatřil Saula, Hospodin promluvil: „Hle, to je ten muž, o němž jsem ti řekl, že bude spravovat můj lid.“18Saul uprostřed brány přistoupil k Samuelovi a požádal ho: „Ukaž mi, prosím, kde tu bydlí vidoucí.“19„Já jsem vidoucí,“ odpověděl mu Samuel. „Pojď přede mnou na návrší; dnes budete jíst se mnou. Než se s tebou ráno rozloučím, povím ti všechno, co máš na srdci.20A o ty oslice, které se ti před třemi dny ztratily, si nedělej starosti. Už se našly. Vždyť ke komu se upíná touha celého Izraele? Přece k tobě a tvému otcovskému rodu!“21„Cože?“ opáčil Saul. „Já jsem přece Benjamínek, z nejmenšího kmene v Izraeli! A můj rod je navíc ze všech benjamínských rodů ten poslední. Co mi to tu říkáš?“22Samuel ale Saula i s jeho mládencem vzal, přivedl je do síně a dal jim čelní místo mezi pozvanými, kterých bylo asi třicet.23Samuel řekl kuchaři: „Přines tu porci, kterou jsem ti dal; tu, o níž jsem ti řekl, ať ji dáš stranou.“24Kuchař tedy vytáhl kýtu i s tím, co bylo na ní, a položil ji před Saula. „To bylo připraveno pro tebe,“ řekl Samuel. „Přijmi to a jez. Pro tuto chvíli, právě pro tebe to bylo určeno, ještě než jsem pozval ostatní.“ A tak Saul toho dne pojedl se Samuelem.25Když potom sestoupili z návrší do města, Samuel ještě se Saulem pohovořil na střešní terase.26Brzy ráno, ještě za rozbřesku, pak Samuel na Saula na střeše zavolal: „Vstávej, ať se s tebou rozloučím.“ Saul tedy vstal a společně se Samuelem vyšli ven.27Když se blížili k okraji města, Samuel Saulovi řekl: „Pošli toho mládence napřed.“ Když odešel, řekl mu: „Zastav se na chvíli. Uslyšíš ode mě Boží slovo.“

Da sagte Kisch zu seinem Sohn Saul: Nimm einen von den Knechten, mach dich mit ihm auf den Weg und such die Eselinnen!4Sie durchquerten das Gebirge Efraim und durchstreiften das Gebiet von Schalischa, fanden sie aber nicht. Sie zogen durch das Gebiet von Schaalim - ohne Erfolg; dann durchwanderten sie das Land Jemini, fanden sie aber wieder nicht. (2Kr 4,42)5Als sie in das Gebiet von Zuf gekommen waren, sagte Saul zu seinem Knecht, der ihn begleitete: Komm, wir wollen umkehren, sonst macht sich mein Vater um uns noch mehr Sorgen als um die Eselinnen.6Der Knecht erwiderte ihm: In dieser Stadt wohnt doch ein Gottesmann. Er ist sehr angesehen; alles, was er sagt, trifft mit Sicherheit ein. Lasst uns jetzt zu ihm gehen; vielleicht kann er uns sagen, welchen Weg wir hätten gehen sollen. (1S 2,27)7Saul antwortete dem Knecht: Was sollen wir dem Mann mitbringen, wenn wir hingehen? Das Brot in unseren Taschen ist zu Ende. Wir haben nichts, was wir dem Gottesmann als Geschenk bringen könnten. Oder haben wir sonst etwas? (Nu 22,7; 1Kr 14,3)8Darauf antwortete ihm der Knecht: Sieh her, ich habe noch einen Viertel-Silberschekel bei mir. Den will ich dem Gottesmann geben, damit er uns Auskunft über den Weg gibt.9- Früher sagte man in Israel, wenn man hinging, um Gott zu befragen: Wir wollen zum Seher gehen. Denn wer heute Prophet genannt wird, hieß früher Seher. - (Iz 30,10; Sír 46,15)10Saul sagte zu seinem Knecht: Dein Vorschlag ist gut. Komm, wir wollen hingehen. Sie gingen also in die Stadt, wo der Gottesmann wohnte.11Als sie die Steige zur Stadt hinaufgingen, trafen sie einige Mädchen, die herauskamen, um Wasser zu schöpfen. Sie fragten sie: Ist der Seher hier? (Gn 24,11)12Sie antworteten ihnen: Ja, er ist da, da vorn. Beeilt euch aber, denn er ist gerade in die Stadt gekommen, weil das Volk heute auf der Kulthöhe ein Opferfest feiert. (1S 16,1)13Wenn ihr in die Stadt kommt, werdet ihr ihn gerade noch treffen, bevor er zur Kulthöhe hinaufsteigt, um am Mahl teilzunehmen. Denn das Volk isst nicht, ehe er kommt, weil er das Opfer segnet; erst dann essen die Eingeladenen. Geht also hinauf; denn jetzt könnt ihr ihn treffen.14Da gingen sie weiter zur Stadt hinauf. Und als sie zur Mitte der Stadt gekommen waren, kam ihnen gerade Samuel entgegen, der zur Kulthöhe hinaufgehen wollte.15Der HERR aber hatte Samuel, einen Tag bevor Saul kam, das Ohr für eine Offenbarung geöffnet und gesagt: (1S 3,7)16Morgen um diese Zeit schicke ich einen Mann aus dem Gebiet Benjamins zu dir. Ihn sollst du zum Fürsten meines Volkes Israel salben. Er wird mein Volk aus der Hand der Philister befreien; denn ich habe mein Volk Israel gesehen und sein Hilfeschrei ist zu mir gedrungen. (Ex 3,7; Sd 13,5; 1Kr 14,5)17Als Samuel Saul sah, sagte der HERR zu ihm: Das ist der Mann, von dem ich dir gesagt habe: Der wird über mein Volk herrschen. (1S 16,12)18Saul trat mitten im Tor zu Samuel und fragte: Sag mir doch, wo das Haus des Sehers ist!19Samuel antwortete Saul: Ich bin der Seher. Geh vor mir her zur Kulthöhe hinauf! Ihr sollt heute mit mir essen. Morgen früh will ich dich dann weiterziehen lassen. Ich werde dir Auskunft über alles geben, was du auf dem Herzen hast.20Über die Eselinnen, die dir vor drei Tagen abhandengekommen sind, brauchst du dir keine Gedanken zu machen. Sie wurden gefunden. Wem gehört, was in Israel kostbar ist? Gehört es nicht dir und dem ganzen Haus deines Vaters?21Da antwortete Saul: Bin ich nicht ein Benjaminiter, also aus dem kleinsten Stamm Israels? Ist meine Sippe nicht die geringste von allen Sippen des Stammes Benjamin? Warum sagst du so etwas zu mir? (Sd 6,15; 1S 15,17; Ž 68,28)22Samuel nahm Saul und seinen Knecht mit, führte sie in das Haus und wies ihnen Ehrenplätze unter den Eingeladenen an; es waren etwa dreißig Männer.23Samuel sagte zum Koch: Bring das Stück her, das ich dir gegeben habe, das, von dem ich dir gesagt habe: Halt es bei dir zurück!24Da trug der Koch die Keule auf und setzte sie Saul vor; er sagte: Das ist das, was übrig blieb. Greif zu und iss! Als ich das Volk eingeladen hatte, ist dieses Stück für dich und für diese Stunde aufgehoben worden. An jenem Tag aß Saul zusammen mit Samuel. (Lv 7,32; Nu 18,18)25Dann stiegen sie von der Kulthöhe in die Stadt hinab und Samuel hatte mit Saul auf dem Flachdach eine Unterredung.26Früh am Morgen, als die Dämmerung anbrach, rief Samuel zu Saul aufs Dach hinauf: Steh auf! Ich will dir das Geleit geben. Saul stand auf und beide gingen zusammen hinaus.27Als sie zur Grenze des Stadtgebietes gekommen waren, sagte Samuel zu Saul: Sag dem Knecht, er soll vorausgehen; du aber bleib nun hier stehen! Ich will dir ein Gotteswort verkünden. Da ging der Knecht voraus.

So Kish said to Saul his son, “Take one of the young men with you, and arise, go and look for the donkeys.”4And he passed through the hill country of Ephraim and passed through the land of Shalishah, but they did not find them. And they passed through the land of Shaalim, but they were not there. Then they passed through the land of Benjamin, but did not find them. (Jz 24,33; 2Kr 4,42)5When they came to the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant[1] who was with him, “Come, let us go back, lest my father cease to care about the donkeys and become anxious about us.” (1S 10,2)6But he said to him, “Behold, there is a man of God in this city, and he is a man who is held in honor; all that he says comes true. So now let us go there. Perhaps he can tell us the way we should go.” (Dt 33,1; Sd 13,6; 1S 3,19; 1Kr 13,1)7Then Saul said to his servant, “But if we go, what can we bring the man? For the bread in our sacks is gone, and there is no present to bring to the man of God. What do we have?” (1Kr 14,3; 2Kr 4,42; 2Kr 8,8)8The servant answered Saul again, “Here, I have with me a quarter of a shekel[2] of silver, and I will give it to the man of God to tell us our way.”9(Formerly in Israel, when a man went to inquire of God, he said, “Come, let us go to the seer,” for today’s “prophet” was formerly called a seer.) (Gn 25,22)10And Saul said to his servant, “Well said; come, let us go.” So they went to the city where the man of God was.11As they went up the hill to the city, they met young women coming out to draw water and said to them, “Is the seer here?” (Gn 24,11)12They answered, “He is; behold, he is just ahead of you. Hurry. He has come just now to the city, because the people have a sacrifice today on the high place. (Gn 31,54; 1S 10,5; 1S 16,2; 1S 20,29; 1Kr 3,2)13As soon as you enter the city you will find him, before he goes up to the high place to eat. For the people will not eat till he comes, since he must bless the sacrifice; afterward those who are invited will eat. Now go up, for you will meet him immediately.”14So they went up to the city. As they were entering the city, they saw Samuel coming out toward them on his way up to the high place.15Now the day before Saul came, the Lord had revealed to Samuel: (Rt 4,4; 1S 15,1; Sk 13,21)16“Tomorrow about this time I will send to you a man from the land of Benjamin, and you shall anoint him to be prince[3] over my people Israel. He shall save my people from the hand of the Philistines. For I have seen[4] my people, because their cry has come to me.” (Ex 2,25; Ex 3,7; Ex 3,9; 1S 10,1)17When Samuel saw Saul, the Lord told him, “Here is the man of whom I spoke to you! 1Now there was a man of Benjamin, whose name was Kish, the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Bechorath, the son of Aphiah, a Benjamite, a mighty man of power.2And he had a son, whose name was Saul, a choice young man, and a goodly: and there was not among the children of Israel a goodlier person than he: from his shoulders and upward he was higher than any of the people.3And the asses of Kish Saul' father were lost.
