1 Byla pak truhla Hospodinova v krajině Filistinské za sedm měsíců. 2 Tedy Filistinští povolavše kněží a hadačů, řekli: Co učiníme s truhlou Hospodinovou? Oznamte nám, kterak bychom ji odeslali na místo její? 3 Kteříž odpověděli: Jestliže odešlete truhlu Boha Izraelského, neodsílejte jí prázdné, ale všelijak dejte jí obět za provinění; tehdy uzdraveni budete, a poznáte, proč ruka jeho neodešla od vás. 4 I řekli: Jakáž jest to obět za hřích, kterouž jí dáti máme? Odpověděli: Vedlé počtu knížat Filistinských pět zadků zlatých a pět myší zlatých; nebo rána jednostejná jest na všechněch, i na knížatech vašich. 5 Uděláte tedy podobenství zadků svých a podobenství myší svých, kteréž pokazily zemi, i dáte slávu Bohu Izraelskému; snad pozlehčí ruky své nad vámi, i nad bohy vašimi a nad zemí vaší. 6 A proč obtěžujete srdce svá, jako jsou obtížili Egyptští a Farao srdce své? Zdaliž, když divné věci prokázal při nich, nepropustili jich, a oni odešli? 7 A protož udělejte vůz nový jeden a vezměte dvě krávy otelené, na kteréž jha nebylo vzkládáno, a zapřáhněte ty krávy do vozu, a zavřete telata jejich doma, aby za nimi nešla. 8 A vezmouce truhlu Hospodinovu, vstavte ji na vůz; nádoby pak zlaté, kteréž jste dali jí za provinění, položte v škřiňce po boku jejím, a propusťte ji, ať odejde. 9 A šetřte: Jestližeť cestou k cíli svému půjde do Betsemes, onť jest nám způsobil všecko toto zlé přenáramné; pakli nic, poznáme, že ne ruka jeho dotkla se nás, ale náhodou nám to přišlo. 10 Učinili tedy ti muži tak, a vzavše dvě krávy otelené, zapřáhli je do toho vozu, a telata jejich zavřeli doma. 11 A vstavili truhlu Hospodinovu na vůz, i škřiňku i myši zlaté, a podobizny zadků svých. 12 I šly upřímo krávy cestou, kteráž vede do Betsemes, silnicí jednou předce jdouce a řičíce, aniž se uchýlily na pravo aneb na levo. Knížata také Filistinská šla za nimi až ku pomezí Betsemes. 13 Betsemští pak žali tehdáž pšenici v údolí, a pozdvihše očí svých, uzřeli truhlu; i veselili se, vidouce ji. 14 A když přijel vůz na pole Jozue Betsemského, tu se zastavil. I byl tu kámen veliký. Tedy zsekavše dříví vozu toho i ty krávy, obětovali je v obět zápalnou Hospodinu. 15 Levítové pak složili truhlu Hospodinovu i škřiňku, kteráž byla při ní, v níž byly nádoby zlaté, a postavili na ten kámen veliký. Muži pak Betsemští dodávali obětí zápalných, a obětovali oběti v ten den Hospodinu. 16 Což viděvše knížata Filistinská, navrátili se do Akaron téhož dne. 17 Tito jsou pak zadkové zlatí, kteréž dali Filistinští za své provinění Hospodinu, za Azot jeden, za Gázu jeden, za Aškalon jeden, za Gát jeden, za Akaron jeden. 18 Myši také zlaté, vedlé počtu všech měst Filistinských, za patero knížetství, od města hrazeného až do vsi nehrazené, a až k kameni tomu velikému, na němž postavili truhlu Hospodinovu, kterýž jest až do tohoto dne na poli Jozue Betsemského. 19 Pobil pak Hospodin z mužů Betsemských, kteříž hleděli do truhly Hospodinovy, pobil, pravím, z lidu padesát tisíců a sedmdesáte mužů. I kvílil lid, proto že učinil Hospodin v lidu porážku velikou. 20 Protož řekli muži Betsemští: Kdož bude moci ostáti před Hospodinem Bohem svatým tímto? A k komu odejde od nás? 21 I poslali posly k obyvatelům Kariatjeharim, řkouce: Vrátili zase Filistinští truhlu Hospodinovu; přiďte, vezměte ji k sobě.

— Vrácení Boží schrány - S Boží schránou posílají Pelištejci také dary na usmířenou. Z Bét-šemeše je schrána dopravena do Kirjat-jearímu.

1 Po sedm měsíců byla Hospodinova schrána na poli Pelištejců. 2 Pelištejci svolali kněze a věštce a ptali se: „Co máme s Hospodinovou schránou udělat? Sdělte nám, jakým způsobem ji odeslat na její místo.“ 3 Ti jim odpověděli: „Jestliže budete posílat schránu Boha Izraele, nesmíte ji poslat s prázdnou. Musíte jí přinést oběť za provinění. Teprve pak budete uzdraveni a bude vám zřejmé, proč se jeho ruka od vás neodvracela.“ 4 Dále se tázali: „Jakou oběť za provinění jí máme přinést?“ A oni řekli: „Pět zlatých nádorů a pět zlatých myší podle počtu pelištejských knížat, neboť stejná pohroma postihla všechny, i vaše knížata. 5 Uděláte napodobeniny svých nádorů a napodobeniny svých myší, které přinášejí zemi zkázu, a vzdáte přitom slávu Bohu Izraele. Snad nadlehčí svou ruku, která dolehla na vás, na vaše bohy a na vaši zemi. 6 Proč byste byli neoblomní v srdci, jako byli neoblomní Egypťané a farao? Když proti nim Bůh zasáhl, zdalipak je nepustili, aby šli? 7 Nyní tedy udělejte nový vůz a přiveďte dvě krávy po otelení, na které ještě nebylo vloženo jho, zapřáhněte krávy do vozu, ale jejich telata odveďte od nich zpět domů. 8 Pak vezmete Hospodinovu schránu a dáte ji na vůz; zlaté předměty, které jí přinesete jako oběť za provinění, vložíte do vaku po jejím boku a pustíte ji, ať jede, 9 a uvidíte: Jestliže bude směřovat ke svému území do Bét-šemeše, pak nám způsobil toto veliké zlo on; jestliže nikoli, tedy poznáme, že nás neranila jeho ruka, ale stalo se nám to náhodou.“ 10 Mužové tak učinili. Vzali dvě krávy po otelení, zapřáhli je do vozu a jejich telata zadrželi doma; 11 na vůz vložili Hospodinovu schránu, vak a do něho zlaté myši a napodobeniny svých hlíz. 12 Krávy zamířily přímou cestou na Bét-šemeš, šly stále po téže silnici a bučely, neuchýlily se napravo ani nalevo. Pelištejská knížata šla za nimi až k území Bét-šemeše. 13 Bétšemešané právě sklízeli v dolině pšenici. Tu se rozhlédli a spatřili schránu a zaradovali se, že ji vidí. 14 Vůz dojel na pole Jóšuy Bétšemešského a tam se zastavil. Byl tam veliký kámen. I rozštípali dříví vozu a obětovali krávy Hospodinu v zápalnou oběť. 15 Lévijci složili Hospodinovu schránu a vak, který byl při ní a v němž byly zlaté předměty, a položili je na ten veliký kámen. Onoho dne přinesli bétšemešští muži zápalné oběti a připravili obětní hody Hospodinu. 16 Pět pelištejských knížat to vidělo a vrátilo se onoho dne do Ekrónu. 17 Toto jsou zlaté hlízy, které odvedli Pelištejci Hospodinu v oběť za provinění: jedna za Ašdód, jedna za Gázu, jedna za Aškalón, jedna za Gat a jedna za Ekrón. 18 Zlaté myši odpovídaly počtu všech pelištejských měst s pěti knížaty, od opevněného města až po venkovskou obec, až po kámen Velikého truchlení, na který uložili Hospodinovu schránu; ten je na poli Jóšuy Bétšemešského dodnes. 19 Hospodin však ranil bétšemešské muže za to, že se podívali do Hospodinovy schrány. Sedmdesát mužů z lidu ranil, a bylo tu padesát tisíc mužů. Proto lid truchlil, že Hospodin postihl lid zdrcující ranou. 20 Muži z Bét-šemeše se ptali: „Kdo může obstát před Hospodinem, tímto svatým Bohem? A ke komu poputuje od nás?“ 21 I poslali posly k obyvatelům Kirjat-jearímu se vzkazem: „Pelištejci vrátili Hospodinovu schránu. Přijďte a odneste si ji.“

1 Hospodinova truhla zůstala ve filištínském kraji sedm měsíců. 2 Filištíni svolali své kněze a věštce: „Co máme dělat s Hospodinovou truhlou?“ ptali se. „Oznamte nám, jak ji máme poslat, kam patří.“ 3 Ti odpověděli: „Až budete odesílat truhlu izraelského boha, neodesílejte ji s prázdnou. Rozhodně ji musíte poslat zpátky s odškodněním. Tak se uzdravíte a poznáte, proč se jeho ruka od vás neodvracela.“ 4 „A jaké odškodnění s ní máme poslat zpět?“ otázali se. „Pět zlatých nádorů a pět zlatých krys podle počtu filištínských vládců,“ zněla odpověď, „neboť tatáž pohroma postihla všechny včetně vašich vládců. 5 Zhotovte podobizny svých nádorů a podobizny krys, které ničí vaši zem, a vzdejte čest bohu Izraele. Snad nadlehčí svou ruku nad vámi, vašimi bohy i vaší zemí. 6 Proč byste měli zatvrzovat své srdce, jako to udělali Egypťané a farao? Když se s nimi tento bůh vypořádal, nakonec je stejně propustili a oni šli. 7 Proto teď připravte jeden nový vůz a dvě otelené krávy, na něž nebylo nikdy vloženo jho. Obě krávy zapřáhněte do vozu a jejich telata od nich odveďte domů. 8 Vezměte Hospodinovu truhlu, naložte ji na vůz, ty zlaté předměty, které s ní vracíte jako odškodnění, přidejte do mošny po straně a pošlete ji pryč. 9 Pak uvidíte: Zamíří-li do svého kraje směrem k Bet-šemeši, pak nám toto hrozné neštěstí způsobil on. Pokud ne, budete vědět, že nás nezasáhla jeho ruka, ale stalo se nám to náhodou.“ 10 A tak to udělali. Vzali dvě otelené krávy, zapřáhli je do vozu a jejich telata zavřeli doma. 11 Hospodinovu truhlu naložili na vůz spolu s mošnou, v níž byly ty zlaté krysy a podobizny nádorů. 12 Krávy zamířily rovnou k Bet-šemeši. Šly stále stejným směrem po téže silnici. Bučely, ale neuhnuly napravo ani nalevo. Filištínští vládci kráčeli za nimi až k hranici u Bet-šemeše. 13 Obyvatelé Bet-šemeše právě v údolí sklízeli pšenici. Když pozvedli zrak a spatřili Truhlu, ten pohled je rozradostnil. 14 Vůz dojel až k poli Jošuy Betšemešského a zastavil tam u velikého kamene. Místní pak ten vůz rozštípali na dříví a krávy přinesli jako zápalnou oběť Hospodinu. 15 Levité hned složili Truhlu Hospodinovu a s ní i mošnu, ve které byly ony zlaté předměty, a položili je u toho velikého kamene. Obyvatelé Bet-šemeše toho dne přinášeli zápalné oběti a připravili obětní hody Hospodinu. 16 Když to pětice filištínských vládců viděla, vrátili se toho dne zpátky do Ekronu. 17 Toto jsou zlaté nádory, které Filištíni vrátili jako odškodné Hospodinu: jeden za Ašdod, jeden za Gazu, jeden za Aškelon, jeden za Gat a jeden za Ekron. 18 I zlatých krys bylo do počtu podle všech filištínských měst náležejících oněm pěti vladařům od opevněného města až po venkovskou obec. Onen veliký kámen,^[1] na který složili Hospodinovu truhlu, je toho svědkem až dodnes na poli Jošuy Betšemešského. 19 Hospodin ale srazil ty obyvatele Bet-šemeše, kteří nahlíželi do Truhly Hospodinovy. Lid pak držel smutek, protože Hospodin ranil lid tou hroznou ranou. 20 Proto si obyvatelé Bet-šemeše říkali: „Kdo může obstát před Hospodinem, tak svatým Bohem? A ke komu má zamířit od nás?“ 21 Vyslali tedy posly k obyvatelům Kiriat-jearimu: „Filištíni vrátili Truhlu Hospodinovu! Pojďte si ji odnést k sobě.“

1 Die Lade des HERRN war sieben Monate lang im Gebiet der Philister. 2 Dann riefen die Philister ihre Priester und Wahrsager herbei und fragten sie: Was sollen wir mit der Lade des HERRN machen? Gebt uns Auskunft, auf welche Weise wir sie an den Ort zurückschicken sollen, an den sie gehört. (Iz 44,25) 3 Sie antworteten: Wenn ihr die Lade des Gottes Israels zurückschickt, dann schickt sie nicht ohne Gabe zurück! Ihr müsst ihm vielmehr ein Sühnegeschenk entrichten. Dann werdet ihr Heilung finden und ihr werdet erkennen, warum seine Hand nicht von euch ablässt. 4 Sie fragten weiter: Was für ein Sühnegeschenk sollen wir ihm entrichten? Sie antworteten: Fünf goldene Geschwüre und fünf goldene Mäuse, entsprechend der Zahl der Philisterfürsten; denn alle hat die gleiche Plage getroffen, auch eure Fürsten. They answered, Five golden emerods, and five golden mice, according to the number of the lords of the Philistines: for one plague was on you all, and on your lords. 5 Wherefore ye shall make images of your emerods, and images of your mice that mar the land; and ye shall give glory unto the God of Israel: peradventure he will lighten his hand from off you, and from off your gods, and from off your land. 6 Wherefore then do ye harden your hearts, as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts? when he had wrought wonderfully among them, did they not let the people go, and they departed? 7 Now therefore make a new cart, and take two milch kine, on which there hath come no yoke, and tie the kine to the cart, and bring their calves home from them: 8 And take the ark of the LORD, and lay it upon the cart; and put the jewels of gold, which ye return him for a trespass offering, in a coffer by the side thereof; and send it away, that it may go. 9 And see, if it goeth up by the way of his own coast to Bethshemesh, then he hath done us this great evil: but if not, then we shall know that it is not his hand that smote us: it was a chance that happened to us. 10 And the men did so; and took two milch kine, and tied them to the cart, and shut up their calves at home: 11 And they laid the ark of the LORD upon the cart, and the coffer with the mice of gold and the images of their emerods. 12 And the kine took the straight way to the way of Bethshemesh, and went along the highway, lowing as they went, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left; and the lords of the Philistines went after them unto the border of Bethshemesh. 13 And they of Bethshemesh were reaping their wheat harvest in the valley: and they lifted up their eyes, and saw the ark, and rejoiced to see it . 14 And the cart came into the field of Joshua, a Bethshemite, and stood there, where there was a great stone: and they clave the wood of the cart, and offered the kine a burnt offering unto the LORD. 15 And the Levites took down the ark of the LORD, and the coffer that was with it, wherein the jewels of gold were , and put them on the great stone: and the men of Bethshemesh offered burnt offerings and sacrificed sacrifices the same day unto the LORD. 16 And when the five lords of the Philistines had seen it , they returned to Ekron the same day. 17 And these are the golden emerods which the Philistines returned for a trespass offering unto the LORD; for Ashdod one, for Gaza one, for Askelon one, for Gath one, for Ekron one; 18 And the golden mice, according to the number of all the cities of the Philistines belonging to the five lords, both of fenced cities, and of country villages, even unto the great stone of Abel, whereon they set down the ark of the LORD: which stone remaineth unto this day in the field of Joshua, the Bethshemite. 19 And he smote the men of Bethshemesh, because they had looked into the ark of the LORD, even he smote of the people fifty thousand and threescore and ten men: and the people lamented, because the LORD had smitten many of the people with a great slaughter. 20 And the men of Bethshemesh said, Who is able to stand before this holy LORD God? and to whom shall he go up from us? 21 And they sent messengers to the inhabitants of Kirjathjearim, saying, The Philistines have brought again the ark of the LORD; come ye down, and fetch it up to you.
