1 Tedy přišli muži Kariatjeharim a vzali odtud truhlu Hospodinovu, a vnesli ji do domu Abinadabova na pahrbek, a Eleazara syna jeho posvětili, aby ostříhal truhly Hospodinovy. 2 Stalo se pak, že od toho času, jakž zůstala truhla v Kariatjeharim, když bylo přeběhlo mnoho dní, a byl již rok dvadcátý, teprv se roztoužil všecken dům Izraelský po Hospodinu. 3 Nebo byl mluvil Samuel ke všemu domu Izraelskému, řka: Jestliže celým srdcem svým obracíte se k Hospodinu, odejměte bohy cizí z prostředku sebe i Astarota, a ustavte srdce své při Hospodinu, a služte jemu samému, a vysvobodí vás z ruky Filistinských. 4 A tak zavrhli synové Izraelští Bálim i Astarota, a sloužili Hospodinu samému. 5 Byl také řekl Samuel: Shromažďte všecken lid Izraelský do Masfa, a modliti se budu za vás Hospodinu. 6 I shromáždili se do Masfa, a vážíce vodu, vylévali před Hospodinem, a postíce se v ten den, řekli tam: Zhřešili jsme proti Hospodinu. A soudil Samuel syny Izraelské v Masfa. 7 Uslyšavše pak Filistinští, že synové Izraelští shromáždili se do Masfa, vytáhla knížata Filistinská proti Izraelovi. Což když uslyšeli synové Izraelští, báli se příchodu Filistinských. 8 Pročež řekli synové Izraelští Samuelovi: Nepřestávej volati za nás k Hospodinu Bohu našemu, aby nás vysvobodil z ruky Filistinských. 9 Vzav tedy Samuel beránka jednoho, kterýž ještě ssal, obětoval ho celého v obět zápalnou Hospodinu. I modlil se Samuel Hospodinu za Izraele, a uslyšel jej Hospodin. 10 I bylo, že když Samuel obětoval obět zápalnou, Filistinští přiblížili se, aby bojovali proti Izraelovi, ale zahřměl Hospodin hřímáním náramným v ten den nad Filistinskými, a potřel je, i poraženi jsou před tváří Izraele. 11 Vytáhše pak muži Izraelští z Masfa, stihali Filistinské, a bili je až pod Betchar. 12 Tehdy vzav Samuel kámen jeden, položil jej mezi Masfa a mezi Sen, a nazval jméno jeho Eben-Ezer; nebo řekl: Až potud pomáhal nám Hospodin. 13 A tak sníženi jsou Filistinští, a netáhli více na pomezí Izraelské; a byla ruka Hospodinova proti Filistinským po všecky dny Samuelovy. 14 Navrácena jsou také města Izraelovi, kteráž byli Filistinští odtrhli od Izraele, počna od Akaron až do Gát; i pomezí jejich vysvobodil Izrael z ruky Filistinských. A byl pokoj mezi Izraelem a Amorejskými. 15 I soudil Samuel Izraele po všecky dny života svého. 16 A chodě každého roku, obcházel Bethel a Galgala i Masfa, a soudil Izraele na všech těch místech. 17 (Potom navracoval se do Ramata, nebo tam byl dům jeho, a tam soudil Izraele.) Tam také vzdělal oltář Hospodinu.

On vás vysvobodí z rukou Pelištejců.“ 4 Izraelci tedy odstranili baaly a aštarty a sloužili jenom Hospodinu. 5 Samuel vyhlásil: „Shromážděte celý Izrael do Mispy a já se budu za vás modlit k Hospodinu.“ 6 Shromáždili se tedy do Mispy, čerpali vodu a vylévali ji před Hospodinem; také se onoho dne postili a říkali tam: „Zhřešili jsme proti Hospodinu.“ A Samuel soudil Izraelce v Mispě. 7 Když se Pelištejci doslechli, že se Izraelci shromáždili do Mispy, vytáhla pelištejská knížata proti Izraeli. Izraelci to uslyšeli a báli se Pelištejců. 8 Naléhali na Samuela: „Nepřestaň za nás úpěnlivě volat k Hospodinu, našemu Bohu, ať nás zachrání z rukou Pelištejců.“ 9 Samuel vzal jedno neodstavené jehňátko a obětoval je Hospodinu v zápalnou oběť, celopal, a úpěnlivě volal k Hospodinu za Izraele. A Hospodin mu odpověděl. 10 Když Samuel obětoval zápalnou oběť, Pelištejci vyrazili k bitvě s Izraelci. Ale Hospodin onoho dne zahřměl mocným hlasem proti Pelištejcům a uvedl je ve zmatek. Byli před Izraelem poraženi. 11 Izraelští mužové vytáhli z Mispy, pronásledovali Pelištejce a pobíjeli je až pod Bét-kar. 12 I vzal Samuel jeden kámen a položil jej mezi Mispu a Šén. Dal mu jméno Eben-ezer (to je Kámen pomoci) a prohlásil: „Až potud nám Hospodin pomáhal.“ 13 Pelištejci byli pokořeni a nadále už nepronikali na izraelské území. Hospodinova ruka na Pelištejce doléhala po všechny Samuelovy dny. 14 Města, která Pelištejci Izraeli odňali, od Ekrónu až po Gat, připadla zase Izraeli a Izrael vysvobodil z rukou Pelištejců i jejich pomezí. Jakmile to Izraelci uslyšeli, dostali z Filištínů strach 8 a říkali Samuelovi: „Teď nesmíš mlčet! Nepřestávej za nás volat k Hospodinu, našemu Bohu, ať nás vysvobodí z ruky Filištínů!“ 9 Samuel tedy vzal jedno ještě neodstavené jehně a přinesl je celé jako zápalnou oběť Hospodinu. Pak volal k Hospodinu za Izrael a Hospodin mu odpověděl. 10 Zatímco Samuel přinášel zápalnou oběť, Filištíni se už chystali k útoku na Izrael. Hospodin ale toho dne nad Filištíny zaburácel mohutným hromem, takže propadli zmatku a byli před Izraelem poraženi. 11 Izraelští muži vyrazili z Micpy, pustili se za Filištíny a pobíjeli je až pod Bet-kar. 12 Tehdy vzal Samuel jeden kámen, umístil ho mezi Micpu a Šen a nazval ho Eben-ezer, Kámen pomoci. Wendet euer Herz wieder dem HERRN zu und dient ihm allein; dann wird er euch aus der Gewalt der Philister befreien.
