1Filistinští pak vzali truhlu Boží, a zanesli ji z Eben-Ezer do Azotu.2Vzali tedy Filistinští truhlu Boží, a vnesli ji do domu modly Dágon, a postavili ji vedlé Dágona.3A když Azotští na zejtří ráno vstali, aj, Dágon povalený ležel tváří svou na zemi před truhlou Hospodinovou. I vzali Dágona a postavili jej na místo jeho.4A když opět ráno nazejtří vstali, aj, Dágon, jakž upadl, ležel tváří svou na zemi před truhlou Hospodinovou; hlava pak Dágonova a obě dlaně rukou jeho odražené byly na prahu, jen ho špalek zůstal.5Protož kněží Dágonovi a všickni, kteříž vcházejí do domu Dágonova, nešlapají na prah Dágonův v Azotu až do tohoto dne.6Tedy ztížena jest ruka Hospodinova nad Azotskými, a pohubila je, (nebo ranila je neduhy na zadku), Azot i končiny jeho.7Vidouce pak muži Azotští, co se děje, řekli: Nechť nezůstává truhla Boha Izraelského u nás, nebo těžká jest ruka jeho proti nám, a proti Dágonovi bohu našemu.8I obeslali a shromáždili všecka knížata Filistinská k sobě, a řekli: Co učiníme s truhlou Boha Izraelského? Odpověděli: Nechť jest doprovozena do Gát truhla Boha Izraelského. I zprovodili tam truhlu Boha Izraelského.9Stalo se pak, když ji vyprovázeli, že ruka Hospodinova přikročila k městu trápením velikým velmi, a ranila muže města od malého až do velikého, a nametalo se jim v tajných místech plno vředů.10Z té příčiny poslali truhlu Boží do Akaron. A když přišla truhla Boží do Akaron, zkřikli Akaronští, řkouce: Zprovodili k nám truhlu Boha Izraelského, aby nás pomořili i náš lid.11Protož poslavše, shromáždili všecka knížata Filistinská, a řekli: Odešlete truhlu Boha Izraelského, ať se navrátí na místo své, a nezmoří nás i lidu našeho. Nebo bylo trápení smrtelné po všem tom městě, a velmi těžká byla ruka Boží tam.12Muži pak, kteříž nezemřeli, raněni byli neduhy na zadku, tak že křik města vstupoval až k nebi.
— Boží schrána mezi Pelištejci - Hospodinova schrána způsobuje pohromy v pelištejských městech, takže se Pelištejci rozhodují poslat ji zpět do Izraele.
1 Pelištejci vzali Boží schránu a zanesli ji z Eben-ezeru do Ašdódu.2 Pelištejci tedy Boží schránu vzali, přenesli ji do domu Dágonova a vystavili ji vedle Dágona.3 Když Ašdóďané nazítří časně vstali, hle, Dágon ležel tváří k zemi před Hospodinovou schránou. I vzali Dágona a dali ho zpět na jeho místo.4 Nazítří za časného jitra vstali, a hle, Dágon zase ležel tváří k zemi před Hospodinovou schránou; Dágonova hlava a obě jeho ruce ležely uraženy na prahu. Z Dágona zůstal jen trup.5 Proto až dodnes nešlapou v Ašdódu Dágonovi kněží a nikdo, kdo vstupuje do Dágonova domu, na Dágonův práh. 6 Hospodinova ruka těžce dolehla na Ašdóďany a způsobila mezi nimi spoušť. Ranila je nádory, Ašdód i jeho území.7 Když ašdódští muži viděli, jak se věci mají, rozhodli: „Schrána Boha Izraele nemůže u nás zůstat. Jeho ruka tvrdě dopadla na nás i na našeho boha Dágona.“8 Obeslali všechna pelištejská knížata, shromáždili je k sobě a tázali se: „Co uděláme se schránou Boha Izraele?“ Oni odvětili: „Nechť je schrána Boha Izraele dopravena do Gatu.“ I dopravili tam schránu Boha Izraele. 9 Avšak sotva ji tam dopravili, způsobila Hospodinova ruka ve městě nesmírnou hrůzu a ranila muže města, malé i velké; vyrazily se jim nádory.10 Proto odeslali Boží schránu do Ekrónu. Sotva však přišla Boží schrána do Ekrónu, dali se Ekróňané do úpěnlivého křiku: „Dopravili k nám schránu Boha Izraele, aby umořili nás i náš lid!“11 Obeslali všechna pelištejská knížata, shromáždili je a rozhodli: „Odešlete schránu Boha Izraele zpět na její místo, ať nás a náš lid neumoří.“ Celé město zachvátila smrtelná hrůza. Boží ruka tam dolehla velmi těžce.12 Muži, kteří nezemřeli, byli raněni nádory. Volání města o pomoc stoupalo k nebesům.

Zůstal z něj jenom trup.5(Proto Dágonovi kněží a vůbec všichni, kdo vstupují do Dágonova chrámu v Ašdodu, až dodnes nestoupají na Dágonův práh.)6Na Ašdoďany pak těžce dolehla ruka Hospodinova – přinesla pohromu a Ašdod i s okolím ranila nádory.7Když obyvatelé Ašdodu viděli, co se děje, říkali: „Truhla izraelského boha u nás nemůže zůstat. Jeho ruka drtí nás i našeho boha Dágona!“8Obeslali proto všechny filištínské vládce, shromáždili je k sobě a pravili: „Co máme dělat s truhlou izraelského boha?“ Usnesli se potom, že ji převezme město Gat, a tak tam Truhlu Boha Izraele přestěhovali.9Jakmile ji tam ale přestěhovali, ruka Hospodinova způsobila ve městě nesmírnou hrůzu a ranila tamní obyvatele od nejmenších po největší tak, že se jim vyrazily nádory.10A tak Boží truhlu odeslali do Ekronu. Když ale Boží truhla přicházela do Ekronu, dali se Ekroňané do křiku: „Stěhují sem truhlu izraelského boha! To nás chtějí s celým naším lidem zahubit?“11Obeslali proto a shromáždili všechny filištínské vládce. „Pošlete truhlu izraelského boha pryč,“ žádali. „Ať se vrátí, kam patří, jenom ať nehubí nás a náš lid!“ Po celém městě se totiž rozšířila smrtelná hrůza. Boží ruka na ně dolehla velmi těžce.12Ti, kdo nezemřeli, byli raněni nádory a křik toho města stoupal až k nebi.
