1 Řekl pak David v srdci svém: Když tedyž sejdu od ruky Saulovy, nic mi lepšího není, než abych naprosto utekl do země Filistinské. I pustí o mně Saul, a nebude mne více hledati v žádných končinách Izraelských, a tak ujdu ruky jeho. 2 Tedy vstav David, odebral se sám i těch šest set mužů, kteříž byli s ním, k Achisovi synu Maoch, králi Gát. 3 I bydlil David s Achisem v Gát, on i muži jeho, jeden každý s čeledí svou, David i dvě ženy jeho, Achinoam Jezreelská, a Abigail Karmelská někdy žena Nábalova. 4 A když bylo oznámeno Saulovi, že utekl David do Gát, přestal ho hledati více. 5 Řekl pak David Achisovi: Prosím, jestliže jsem nalezl milost před očima tvýma, ať mi dají místo v některém městě krajiny této, abych tam bydlil; nebo proč má bydliti služebník tvůj s tebou v městě královském? 6 I dal mu Achis v ten den Sicelech, odkudž Sicelech bylo králů Judských až do dne tohoto. 7 Byl pak počet dnů, v nichž bydlil David v krajině Filistinské, den a čtyři měsíce. 8 I vycházel David s muži svými, vpády činíce na Gessurské a Gerzitské a Amalechitské, (nebo ti bydlili v zemi té od starodávna), kudy se chodí přes Sur až do země Egyptské. 9 A hubil David krajinu tu, nenechávaje živého muže ani ženy; bral také ovce i voly, i osly i velbloudy, i šaty, a navracoval se a přicházel k Achisovi. 10 A když se ptal Achis: Kam jste dnes vpadli? odpověděl David: K straně polední Judově, a k straně polední Jerachmeelově, a k straně polední Cinejského. 11 Neživil pak David ani muže ani ženy, aby koho přivoditi měl do Gát; nebo myslil: Aby na nás nežalovali, řkouce: Tak učinil David. A ten obyčej jeho byl po všecky dny, dokudž zůstával v krajině Filistinské. 12 I věřil Achis Davidovi, řka: Jižtě se velice zošklivil lidu svému Izraelskému, protož budeť mi za služebníka na věky.

— David v zemi Pelištejců - David se uchyluje ke králi Akíšovi do Gatu a stává se jeho vazalem.

1 David si řekl: „Kteréhokoli dne mohu být zahuben Saulovou rukou. Nezbývá mi nic lepšího než uniknout do pelištejské země. Saul mě nechá být, přestane mě po celém izraelském území hledat. Tak mu uniknu z rukou.“ 2 A David hned přešel spolu se svými šesti sty muži k Akíšovi, synu Maókovu, králi Gatu. 3 David se usadil u Akíše v Gatu, on i jeho muži, každý se svou rodinou, David se svými dvěma ženami, Achínoamou Jizreelskou a Abígajilou Karmelskou, ženou po Nábalovi. 4 Když Saulovi ohlásili, že David uprchl do Gatu, už ho dál nehledal. 5 David řekl Akíšovi: „Jestli jsem získal tvou přízeň, kéž je mi dáno místo v některém z venkovských měst a já se tam usadím. Proč by měl tvůj služebník sídlit s tebou v městě královském?“ 6 Akíš mu dal onoho dne Siklag. Proto náleží Siklag judským králům dodnes. 7 Údobí, po které David sídlil v pelištejské krajině, trvalo celkem jeden rok a čtyři měsíce. 8 David se svými muži vycházel a podnikal vpády proti Gešúrejcům, Girzejcům a Amálekovcům; ti všichni byli odedávna obyvateli té země od cesty do Šúru až po egyptskou zemi. 9 David pobíjel obyvatele země, nenechával naživu muže ani ženu, ale bral brav a skot, osly, velbloudy i šaty. S tím se vracel a přicházel k Akíšovi. 10 Když se Akíš ptal: „Kam jste dnes vpadli?“, David odpovídal: „Na jih Judy“ nebo „Na jih Jerachmeelců“ nebo „Na jih Kénijců“. 11 David nenechával naživu muže ani ženu a nevodil je do Gatu. Říkal: „Mohli by na nás vyzradit: Toto dělá David.“ Takto si počínal po celou dobu, co sídlil v pelištejské krajině. 12 Akíš Davidovi důvěřoval. Říkal: „Vzbudil velikou nelibost u svého lidu, Izraele; navždy zůstane mým služebníkem.“

1 David si ale pomyslel: „Teď mohu kdykoli Saulovou rukou zahynout. Nezbývá mi nic lepšího než utéct do filištínské země. Pak mě Saul nechá a přestane mě hledat po celém Izraeli. Takhle mu uniknu z rukou.“ 2 Proto David vyrazil na cestu a se šesti sty svými muži přešel ke gatskému králi Achišovi, synu Maochovu. 3 David i jeho muži se tedy usadili u Achiše v Gatu. Každý měl s sebou svoji rodinu, David pak obě své ženy, Achinoam Jizreelskou a Abigail, vdovu po Nábalovi Karmelském. 4 Když bylo Saulovi oznámeno, že David utekl do Gatu, přestal ho hledat. 5 David řekl Achišovi: „Mohl bys mi prokázat laskavost? Prosím, ať mi poskytnou místo v některém venkovském městečku, abych se tam usadil. Proč by měl tvůj služebník bydlet s tebou v královském městě?“ 6 Toho dne mu tedy Achiš dal Ciklag. Proto Ciklag patří až dodnes judským králům. 7 David strávil ve filištínském kraji celkem rok a čtyři měsíce. 8 David se svými muži podnikal nájezdy na Gešurejce, Girzejce i Amalekovce. (Ti totiž odpradávna bydleli v tom kraji, který se táhne až k Šuru směrem k egyptské k zemi.) 9 David útočil na celý ten kraj a nenechával naživu muže ani ženy, zabíral brav i skot, osly, velbloudy i oděvy. Potom se vracel k Achišovi. 10 Když se Achiš ptal: „Na koho jste dnes podnikli nájezd?“ David odpovídal: „Do judského Negevu,“ nebo „do Negevu Jerachmeelců,“ nebo „do kenijského Negevu.“ 11 David nenechával naživu muže ani ženy, aby je nemusel vodit do Gatu. Říkal si: „Aby na nás nevyzradili, co vlastně David dělá.“ Tak si David počínal celou dobu, kdy bydlel ve filištínském kraji. 12 Achiš ale Davidovi věřil; myslel si: „Ten se svému lidu Izraeli nadobro zprotivil. Zůstane mým služebníkem už napořád.“

1 David überlegte: Eines Tages werde ich doch noch durch Saul umgebracht. Es bleibt nichts anderes übrig, als mich im Land der Philister in Sicherheit zu bringen. Dann wird Saul mich in Ruhe lassen und aufhören, mich weiter im ganzen Gebiet Israels zu suchen, und ich bin seiner Hand entkommen. 2 David machte sich also auf den Weg und ging mit den sechshundert Männern, die bei ihm waren, zu Achisch hinüber, dem Sohn Maochs, dem König von Gat. (1S 21,11) 3 Und er blieb mit seinen Leuten bei Achisch in Gat; alle hatten ihre Familien bei sich, David seine beiden Frauen: Ahinoam, die Jesreeliterin, und Abigajil aus Karmel, die Frau Nabals. (1S 25,42; 1Kr 2,39) 4 Als man Saul meldete, dass David nach Gat geflohen war, suchte er nicht mehr weiter nach ihm. 5 David sagte zu Achisch: Wenn ich dein Wohlwollen gefunden habe, dann weise mir einen Wohnraum in einer der Städte des flachen Landes zu, wo ich mich niederlassen kann. Warum soll dein Knecht bei dir in der Königsstadt wohnen? 6 Da gab ihm Achisch noch am gleichen Tag Ziklag. Deshalb gehört Ziklag den Königen von Juda bis zum heutigen Tag. (Ex 17,16; Jz 13,2) 9 David verheerte das Land und ließ weder Männer noch Frauen am Leben; Schafe und Rinder, Esel, Kamele und Kleider aber nahm er mit. Wenn er dann zurückkehrte und zu Achisch kam 10 und Achisch ihn fragte: Wohin habt ihr heute euren Raubzug gemacht?, antwortete David: ins Südland von Juda, oder: ins Südland der Jerachmeeliter, oder: ins Südland der Keniter. 11 Weder Männer noch Frauen ließ er am Leben und er brachte niemand nach Gat; denn er sagte sich: Niemand soll etwas über uns berichten und sagen können: Das und das hat David gemacht. So hielt er es die ganze Zeit über, solange er sich im Land der Philister aufhielt. (Sd 1,16) 12 Achisch aber schenkte David Vertrauen, denn er sagte sich: Er hat sich bei seinem Volk, bei den Israeliten, so verhasst gemacht, dass er für immer mein Knecht bleiben wird. (Gn 34,30)

David Flees to the Philistines

1 Then David said in his heart, “Now I shall perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should escape to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will despair of seeking me any longer within the borders of Israel, and I shall escape out of his hand.” 2 So David arose and went over, he and the six hundred men who were with him, to Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath. 3 And David lived with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, and David with his two wives, Ahinoam of Jezreel, and Abigail of Carmel, Nabal’s widow.
