1Slyšte slovo toto, kteréž já vynáším proti vám, totiž naříkání nad domem Izraelským.2Padneť, aniž více povstane panna Izraelská; opuštěna bude v zemi své, nebude žádného, kdo by jí pozdvihl.3Nebo takto praví Panovník Hospodin: V městě, z kteréhož vycházelo tisíc, zůstane sto, v tom pak, z kteréhož vycházelo sto, zůstane deset domu Izraelskému.4Nebo takto praví Hospodin domu Izraelskému: Hledejte mne a živi buďte.5A nehledejte Bethel, aniž choďte do Galgala, a do Bersabé se nesmýkejte; nebo Galgal jistotně se přestěhuje, a Bethel přijde na nic.6Hledejte Hospodina, (a živi buďte, aby nepronikl jako oheň domu Jozefova, a nesehltil, a nebylo by žádného, kdo by uhasil Bethelské,7Kteříž proměňují v pelynek soud, a spravedlnosti na zemi zanechávají),8Toho, kterýž učinil Kuřátka i Oriona, kterýž proměňuje stín smrti v jitro, a den v temnosti noční, kterýž přivolává vody mořské, a vylévá je na svrchek země, jehož jméno jest Hospodin,9Kterýž očerstvuje zemdleného proti silnému, tak že zemdlený do pevnosti vchází.10Nenávidí trescícího v bráně, a toho, kdož mluví věci pravé, v ohavnosti mají.11A protož, proto že loupíte chudého, a břímě obilé béřete od něho, domů z tesaného kamení nastavěli jste, ale nebudete bydliti v nich; vinic výborných naštěpovali jste, ale nebudete píti vína z nich.12Nebo já vím o mnohých nešlechetnostech vašich a velikých hříších vašich, že trápíte spravedlivého, berouce poctu, a nuzných při v bráně převracíte.13Protož rozumný v ten čas mlčeti musí, nebo čas ten zlý jest.14Hledejte dobrého a ne zlého, abyste živi byli, a budeť tak Hospodin Bůh zástupů s vámi, jakž pravíte.15Mějte v nenávisti zlé, a milujte dobré, a ustanovte v bráně soud; snad Hospodin Bůh zástupů milost učiní ostatkům Jozefovým.16Protož takto praví Panovník Hospodin, Bůh zástupů: Po všech ulicích bude kvílení, a na všecky strany zkřiknou: Ouvech, ouvech, a povolají oráče k pláči a kvílení s těmi, kteříž umějí naříkati.17Nýbrž i po všech vinicích bude kvílení, když projdu prostředkem tebe, dí Hospodin.18Běda těm, kteříž žádají dne Hospodinova. — Žalozpěv nad Izraelem - Prorok vidí neodvratnou zkázu lidu a naříká nad ním.
1 Slyšte toto slovo, které pronáším, žalozpěv nad vámi, dome izraelský: 2 „Padla izraelská panna, už nevstane, leží bez povšimnutí na vlastní zemi, nezvedne ji nikdo.“ 3 Neboť toto praví Panovník Hospodin: Městu, které vytáhne s tisícem, zůstane sto, a tomu, jež vytáhne se stem, zůstane pro dům izraelský deset.
— Výzva k hledání Boha - Dotazovat se Hospodina a hledat dobro znamená najít život.
4 Toto praví Hospodin domu izraelskému: Dotazujte se mne a budete žít! 5 Nedotazujte se Bét-elu, nevcházejte do Gilgálu, neputujte do Beer-šeby, neboť Gilgál bude přesídlen, Bét-el se ukáže jako ničemný klam. 6 Dotazujte se Hospodina a budete žít! Kéž nezachvátí dům Josefův jako oheň. Pozřel by jej a nikdo by neuhasil Bét-el, 7 ty, kdo převracejí právo v pelyněk a spravedlnost srážejí k zemi. 8 Ten, který učinil Plejády a Orióna, obrací šero smrti v jitro, ale i den zatmívá nocí, povolává mořské vody a vylévá je na tvář země. Jeho jméno je Hospodin. 9 On mocného uvrhne do záhuby a zhouba pronikne do pevnosti. 10 Oni však toho, kdo trestá v bráně, nenávidí, pravdomluvný se jim hnusí. 11 Protože hanebně vydíráte nuzáka a vymáháte na něm obilnou daň, mohli jste si vybudovat domy z kvádrů, bydlet v nich však nebudete; vysadili jste si skvělé vinice, avšak víno z nich pít nebudete. 12 Já znám vaše četné nevěrnosti, vaše nehorázné hříchy. Nevražíte na spravedlivého, berete úplatek, ubožáky v bráně odstrkujete. 13 Proto v oné době prozíravý zmlkne, bude to zlý čas. 14 Hledejte dobro a ne zlo a budete žít, a tak Hospodin, Bůh zástupů, bude s vámi, jak říkáte. 15 Mějte v nenávisti zlo a milujte dobro, uplatňujte v bráně právo! Snad se Hospodin, Bůh zástupů, smiluje nad pozůstatkem lidu Josefova.

16 Proto praví Hospodin, Bůh zástupů, Panovník, toto: Na všech náměstích bude nářek, na všech ulicích budou křičet: “Běda, běda!“ Zavolají k truchlení oráče, ty, kdo umějí bědovat, k naříkání. 17 Na všech vinicích bude nářek, neboť projdu tvým středem, praví Hospodin. 18 Běda těm, kdo touží po dni Hospodinově! K čemu vám bude den Hospodinův? Hospodin, Bůh zástupů, pak s vámi bude, jak říkáte.15Zlo nenáviďte a dobro milujte, u soudu v bráně právo podpořte – snad se Hospodin, Bůh zástupů, smiluje nad tím, co z Josefa zůstane.16Nuže, toto praví Panovník Hospodin, Bůh zástupů: Nářek bude znít na všech prostranstvích, „Ach, běda!“ bude slyšet na všech ulicích. Rolníky povolají k oplakávání a znalce žalozpěvů k truchlení.17Nářek bude znít na všech vinicích, až projdu mezi vámi, praví Hospodin.
Nenávidím vaše svátky
18Běda těm, kteří touží po Hospodinově dni! K čemu vám bude Hospodinův den? Přijde s tmou, a ne se světlem!19Jako by někdo utíkal před lvem a potkal by se s medvědem; jako by se doma opřel rukou o zeď a byl by uštknut hadem.20Hospodinův den nepřinese světlo, ale tmu, černotu bez jediného paprsku!21Nenávidím vaše svátky, jsou mi odporné, vaše shromáždění nemohu vydržet!22Když mi přinášíte zápalné a moučné oběti, mně se to nelíbí. Na pokojné oběti z vašich dobytčat se nechci ani podívat.23S rámusem svých písní mě nechte být, nechci poslouchat vaše hraní na loutny!24Ať se valí právo jako mocná řeka, spravedlnost jako proud, jenž nevysychá!25Přinášeli jste mi oběti a dary těch čtyřicet let na poušti, dome izraelský?26Nosili jste svého „krále“ Sakúta a hvězdu svého „boha“ Saturna – obrazy, jež jste si museli sami udělat?27Proto vás vystěhuji až za Damašek, praví Hospodin, Bůh zástupů – tak se jmenuje.
