1Je regardai et je vis dans l’étendue céleste qui s’étendait au-dessus de la tête des chérubins comme une pierre de saphir; au-dessus de cette pierre, on apercevait quelque chose qui paraissait ressembler à un trône[1]. (Ez 1:26)2Il dit à l’individu vêtu de lin: Passe entre les roues qui sont sous les chérubins et remplis tes mains des braises incandescentes qui se trouvent entre les chérubins, et répands-les sur la ville. Il s’exécuta sous mes yeux[2]. (2R 25:8; Ez 1:13)3Or, les chérubins se tenaient à droite du Temple au moment où l’individu se rendit vers eux, et la nuée remplit le parvis intérieur.4La gloire de l’Eternel s’était élevée de dessus le chérubin pour se diriger vers le seuil de la maison; alors le Temple fut rempli par la nuée, et le parvis resplendit de l’éclat de la gloire de l’Eternel.5Le bruissement des ailes des chérubins se fit entendre jusque dans le parvis extérieur. C’était comme la voix du Dieu tout-puissant quand il parle.6Quand il avait ordonné à l’individu vêtu de lin: « Prends du feu entre les roues et entre les chérubins », l’individu y était allé et il se tenait à côté d’une roue.7L’un des chérubins avança la main vers le feu qui était entre les chérubins. Il en retira des braises et les mit dans les mains de l’individu vêtu de lin. Celui-ci les prit et se retira.8Alors apparut, sous les ailes des chérubins, une forme de main humaine.9Je regardai et je vis quatre roues à côté des chérubins, une roue à côté de chacun d’eux. Elles avaient l’éclat de la chrysolithe.10Toutes les quatre étaient pareilles et paraissaient imbriquées au milieu l’une de l’autre.11Elles pouvaient donc se déplacer dans les quatre directions sans se tourner; en effet, elles allaient du côté vers lequel se tournait la tête, sans pivoter dans leur mouvement.12Tout le corps des chérubins, leurs dos et leurs mains, leurs ailes et les roues, étaient couverts d’yeux tout autour. Chacun des quatre avait sa roue.13J’entendis qu’on donnait à ces roues le nom de tourbillon.14Chacun des êtres vivants avait quatre faces. Les premières faces étaient des faces de chérubin, les deuxièmes des faces d’homme, les troisièmes des faces de lion et les quatrièmes des faces d’aigle.15Les chérubins s’élevèrent: c’étaient les êtres vivants que j’avais vus sur les bords du canal du Kebar[3]. (Ez 1:5)16Quand les chérubins se déplaçaient, les roues se déplaçaient à côté d’eux, et quand ils déployaient leurs ailes pour s’élever au-dessus de la terre, les roues ne se détournaient pas d’eux, mais restaient à leurs côtés.17Quand ils s’arrêtaient, elles s’arrêtaient, quand ils s’élevaient, elles s’élevaient avec eux, car l’Esprit qui animait les êtres vivants était aussi dans les roues.18La gloire de l’Eternel quitta le seuil du Temple et vint se placer sur les chérubins.19Ceux-ci déployèrent leurs ailes et s’élevèrent de terre sous mes yeux; ils sortirent, et les roues sortirent avec eux. Ils s’arrêtèrent à l’entrée de la porte orientale du temple de l’Eternel et la gloire du Dieu d’Israël reposait sur eux tout au-dessus[4]. (Ez 8:4)20C’étaient les êtres vivants que j’avais vus au-dessous du Dieu d’Israël près du canal du Kebar, et je reconnus que c’étaient des chérubins.21Chacun d’eux avait quatre faces et quatre ailes, sous lesquelles apparaissaient ce qui était comme des mains humaines.22Leurs faces avaient la même apparence que celles que j’avais vues près du canal du Kebar, elles avaient le même aspect; c’étaient bien eux. Chacun des êtres avançait droit devant lui.

1Und ich sah: Und siehe, auf dem festen Gewölbe, das über dem Haupt der Cherubim war, ⟨befand sich⟩ einem Saphirstein gleich etwas, das aussah wie ein Thron, der über ihnen sichtbar wurde.2Und er sprach zu dem mit Leinen bekleideten Mann, und er sagte: Geh hinein zu ⟨der Stelle⟩ zwischen dem Räderwerk, zu ⟨der Stelle⟩ unterhalb des Cherubs, und fülle deine Hände mit Feuerkohlen von ⟨der Stelle⟩ zwischen den Cherubim, und streue sie über die Stadt hin! Das Gesicht des Ersten war das Gesicht eines Cherubs, und das Gesicht des Zweiten war das Gesicht eines Menschen und des Dritten das Gesicht eines Löwen und des Vierten das Gesicht eines Adlers.15Und die Cherubim hoben sich empor. Das war das lebende Wesen, das ich am Fluss Kebar gesehen hatte.16Und wenn die Cherubim gingen, ⟨dann⟩ gingen die Räder neben ihnen; und wenn die Cherubim ihre Flügel erhoben, um sich von der Erde emporzuheben, so wandten sich auch sie, die Räder, nicht von ihrer Seite.17Wenn sie stehen blieben, blieben ⟨auch⟩ die Räder[2] stehen; und wenn sie sich emporhoben, hoben sich die Räder[3] mit ihnen empor. Denn der Geist des lebenden Wesens war in ihnen.18Und die Herrlichkeit des HERRN verließ die Schwelle des Hauses und stellte sich über die Cherubim. (Ps 18:11; Ps 99:1; Ez 8:6; Ez 28:14)19Und die Cherubim erhoben ihre Flügel und hoben sich vor meinen Augen von der Erde empor, als sie hinauszogen; und die Räder ⟨erhoben sich⟩ gleichzeitig mit ihnen. Und sie stellte sich[4] an den Eingang des östlichen Tores des Hauses des HERRN, und die Herrlichkeit des Gottes Israels war oben über ihnen. (Ez 11:1; Ez 43:1)20Das war das lebende Wesen, das ich unter dem Gott Israels am Fluss Kebar gesehen hatte; und ich erkannte, dass es Cherubim waren.21Jeder hatte vier Gesichter, und jeder hatte vier Flügel, und etwas wie Menschenhände war unter ihren Flügeln.22Und die Gestalt ihrer Gesichter war die jener Gesichter, die ich am Fluss Kebar gesehen hatte, ihr Aussehen und sie selbst. 1I looked up and saw something that appeared to be a throne made out of lapis lazuli. It was above the huge space that was spread out over the heads of the cherubim.2The LORD spoke to the man who was wearing linen clothes. He said, ‘Go in among the wheels beneath the cherubim. Fill your hands with burning coals from the fire that is among the cherubim. Scatter the coals over the city.’ As I watched, he went in.3The cherubim were standing on the south side of the temple when the man went in. A cloud filled the inner courtyard.4Then the glory of the LORD rose from above the cherubim. It moved to the doorway of the temple. The cloud filled the temple. And the courtyard was full of the brightness of the glory of the LORD.5The sound the wings of the cherubim made could be heard as far away as the outer courtyard. It was like the voice of the Mighty God when he speaks.6The LORD gave a command to the man who was dressed in linen clothes. He said, ‘Get some coals of fire from among the wheels. Take them from among the cherubim.’ So the man went in and stood beside a wheel.7Then one of the cherubim reached out his hand. He picked up some of the burning coals that were among the wheels. He handed them to the man who was wearing linen clothes. The man took them and left.8I saw what looked like human hands. They were under the wings of the cherubim.9I looked up and saw four wheels beside the cherubim. One wheel was beside each of them. The wheels gleamed like topaz.10All four of them looked alike. Each wheel appeared to be inside another wheel at right angles.11The wheels could go in any one of the four directions the cherubim faced. The wheels didn’t change their direction as the cherubim moved. The cherubim went in the direction their heads faced. They didn’t change their direction as they moved.12Their whole bodies were completely covered with eyes. That included their backs, hands and wings. Their four wheels were covered with eyes too.13I heard someone tell the wheels to start spinning around.14Each of the cherubim had four faces. One face was the face of a cherub. The second was the face of a human being. The third was the face of a lion. And the fourth was an eagle’s face.15The cherubim rose from the ground. They were the same living creatures I had seen by the River Kebar.16When the cherubim moved, the wheels beside them moved. The cherubim spread their wings to rise from the ground. As they did, the wheels didn’t leave their side.17When the cherubim stood still, the wheels also stood still. When the cherubim rose, the wheels rose along with them. That’s because the spirits of the living creatures were in the wheels.18Then the glory of the LORD moved away from the doorway of the temple. It stopped above the cherubim.19While I watched, they spread their wings. They rose from the ground. As they went, the wheels went along with them. They stopped at the entrance of the east gate of the LORD’s house. And the glory of the God of Israel was above them.20These were the same living creatures I had seen by the River Kebar. I had seen them beneath the God of Israel. I realised that they were cherubim.21Each one had four faces and four wings. Under their wings was what looked like human hands.22Their faces looked the same as the ones I had seen by the River Kebar. Each of the cherubim went straight ahead.
