1Tehdy přišel jeden z těch sedmi andělů, kteří měli sedm číší, a promluvil ke mně: „Pojď, ukážu ti odsouzení veliké nevěstky, která sedí na mnohých vodách,2se kterou smilnili králové země a obyvatelé země se opili vínem jejího smilstva.“3A odnesl mě v Duchu na poušť. Tehdy jsem uviděl ženu sedící na rudé šelmě, jež byla plná jmen rouhání a měla sedm hlav a deset rohů.4Ta žena byla oblečena purpurem a šarlatem a pokryta zlatem, drahokamy a perlami. V ruce měla zlatý kalich plný ohavností a nečistoty svého smilstva5a na čele měla napsané tajemné jméno: VELIKÝ BABYLON, MATKA NEVĚSTEK A OHAVNOSTÍ ZEMĚ.6Takto jsem viděl tu ženu opilou krví svatých a krví Ježíšových mučedníků. Když jsem ji spatřil, strnul jsem v naprostém úžasu.7„Proč se tak divíš?“ řekl mi anděl. „Já ti povím tajemství té ženy i šelmy, která ji nese, jež má sedm hlav a deset rohů.8Šelma, kterou jsi viděl, byla a není a má vystoupit z propasti a jít do záhuby. A obyvatelé země, ti, jejichž jméno není od stvoření světa zapsáno v knize života, užasnou, až uvidí tu šelmu, která byla a není, ale znovu se objeví.9Zde je zapotřebí moudré mysli: Těch sedm hlav je sedm hor, na kterých ta žena sedí. Je to také sedm králů.10Pět jich padlo, jeden je a další ještě nepřišel; a až přijde, musí zůstat na krátký čas.11Šelma, která byla a není, ta je osmý král; je z těch sedmi a jde do záhuby.12Deset rohů, které jsi viděl, je deset králů, kteří se ještě neujali kralování, ale mají přijmout moc jako králové v jednu hodinu spolu se šelmou.13Ti mají jedno mínění a svou sílu a moc dají šelmě.14Ti budou bojovat s Beránkem, a Beránek nad nimi zvítězí – neboť je Pán pánů a Král králů – a s ním i jeho povolaní, vyvolení a věrní.“15Potom mi řekl: „Vody, které jsi viděl a kde ta nevěstka sedí, jsou lidé a zástupy, národy a jazyky.16Těch deset rohů, které jsi viděl na šelmě, začne tu nevěstku nenávidět a nechá ji zpustošit a obrat donaha; budou požírat její tělo a spálí ji ohněm.17Neboť Bůh vložil do jejich srdcí, aby vykonali jeho záměr, a tak budou jednoho mínění a předají své království šelmě, dokud se nenaplní Boží slova.18Žena, kterou jsi spatřil, je to veliké město, které kraluje nad králi země.“
1Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the judgment of the great prostitute who is seated on many waters, (Iz 1,21; Jr 2,20; Jr 51,13; Na 3,4; Zj 15,7; Zj 17,15; Zj 19,2; Zj 21,9)2with whom the kings of the earth have committed sexual immorality, and with the wine of whose sexual immorality the dwellers on earth have become drunk.” (Iz 23,17; Jr 51,7; Zj 3,10; Zj 14,8; Zj 18,3; Zj 18,9)3And he carried me away in the Spirit into a wilderness, and I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was full of blasphemous names, and it had seven heads and ten horns. (Zj 12,3; Zj 12,6; Zj 12,14; Zj 13,1; Zj 17,7; Zj 17,9; Zj 17,12; Zj 21,10)4The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and jewels and pearls, holding in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the impurities of her sexual immorality. (Jr 51,7; Da 11,38; Zj 18,6; Zj 18,16)5And on her forehead was written a name of mystery: “Babylon the great, mother of prostitutes and of earth’s abominations.” (2Te 2,7; Zj 14,8; Zj 17,7)6And I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints, the blood of the martyrs of Jesus.[1] When I saw her, I marveled greatly. (Zj 2,13; Zj 13,15; Zj 16,6)7But the angel said to me, “Why do you marvel? I will tell you the mystery of the woman, and of the beast with seven heads and ten horns that carries her. (Zj 17,5)8The beast that you saw was, and is not, and is about to rise from the bottomless pit[2] and go to destruction. And the dwellers on earth whose names have not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world will marvel to see the beast, because it was and is not and is to come. (Zj 1,4; Zj 3,5; Zj 3,10; Zj 9,1; Zj 11,7; Zj 13,3; Zj 13,10; Zj 17,11)9This calls for a mind with wisdom: the seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman is seated; (Zj 13,18)10they are also seven kings, five of whom have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come, and when he does come he must remain only a little while.11As for the beast that was and is not, it is an eighth but it belongs to the seven, and it goes to destruction. (Zj 11,17; Zj 17,8)12And the ten horns that you saw are ten kings who have not yet received royal power, but they are to receive authority as kings for one hour, together with the beast. (Da 7,24; Za 1,18; Zj 13,1; Zj 17,16; Zj 18,10; Zj 18,17; Zj 18,19)13These are of one mind, and they hand over their power and authority to the beast.14They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful.” (Dt 10,17; Ž 136,3; Da 2,47; Mt 28,18; L 18,7; Sk 10,36; Ř 1,6; 1Tm 6,15; Zj 1,5; Zj 2,10; Zj 3,21; Zj 16,14; Zj 19,16)15And the angel[3] said to me, “The waters that you saw, where the prostitute is seated, are peoples and multitudes and nations and languages. (Iz 8,7; Zj 17,1)16And the ten horns that you saw, they and the beast will hate the prostitute. They will make her desolate and naked, and devour her flesh and burn her up with fire, (Lv 21,9; Jr 50,41; Ez 16,37; Ez 16,39; Zj 17,12; Zj 18,8; Zj 18,17; Zj 18,19; Zj 19,18)17for God has put it into their hearts to carry out his purpose by being of one mind and handing over their royal power to the beast, until the words of God are fulfilled. (2K 8,16; 2Te 2,11)18And the woman that you saw is the great city that has dominion over the kings of the earth.” (Zj 16,19)
