1Také v Ikoniu šli do židovské synagogy a mluvili tak, že uvěřilo veliké množství Židů i Řeků.2Ti Židé, kteří neuvěřili, ale podnítili pohany a poštvali je proti bratrům.3Přesto tam strávili dlouhý čas a směle mluvili o Pánu, který potvrzoval poselství o své milosti a působil skrze jejich ruce znamení a zázraky.[1]4Obyvatelstvo města se rozdělilo: jedni byli s Židy a druzí s apoštoly.5Když se je však pohané i Židé se svými vůdci rozhodli napadnout a kamenovat,6dozvěděli se to a utekli do lykaonských měst Lystry a Derbe a jejich okolí.7I tam šířili evangelium.
Lystra a Derbe
8V Lystře sedával jeden muž. Nemohl na nohy, neboť byl od lůna své matky chromý a nikdy nechodil.9Také on naslouchal Pavlovým slovům. Když se mu Pavel podíval do očí a viděl jeho víru, že bude uzdraven,10řekl silným hlasem: „Postav se na nohy a stůj rovně!“ A on vyskočil a začal chodit.11Když lidé viděli, co Pavel udělal, začali lykaonsky volat: „Bohové sestoupili k nám v lidské podobě!“12Barnabášovi začali říkat Zeus a Pavlovi Hermes (protože mluvil hlavně on).13Kněz Diova chrámu, který stál před městem, přivedl k branám ověnčené býky a chtěl s lidmi začít obětovat.14Jakmile to apoštolové Barnabáš a Pavel uslyšeli, roztrhli svá roucha, vběhli do davu a křičeli:15„Co to děláte? Vždyť jsme jen lidé jako vy! Přišli jsme vám zvěstovat, abyste se obrátili od těchto marností k živému Bohu, který stvořil nebe, zemi i moře a všechno v nich.16V minulých dobách nechával všechny národy chodit po jejich cestách,17ale nikdy o sobě nepřestal svědčit svým dobrodiním: z nebe nám dává déšť i časy úrody a naše nitro sytí jídlem a radostí.“[2]18A těmi slovy taktak upokojili davy, aby jim neobětovaly.19Vtom ale dorazili Židé z Antiochie a Ikonia a strhli davy k tomu, aby Pavla ukamenovali. Když už ho měli za mrtvého, vyvlekli ho za město.20Když ho však obstoupili učedníci, vstal a vrátil se do města. Druhého dne pak s Barnabášem odešel do Derbe.
Zpáteční cesta
21I tomuto městu zvěstovali evangelium. Poté, co tu získali mnoho učedníků, vydali se na zpáteční cestu do Lystry, Ikonia a Antiochie.22Posilovali duše učedníků a vyzývali je, aby zůstávali ve víře a že do Božího království musíme vejít skrze mnohá soužení.23V každé církvi jim s modlitbou a postem vybrali starší a svěřili je Pánu, v něhož uvěřili.24Prošli Pisidii a přišli do Pamfylie.25Poté, co kázali slovo v Perge, odešli do Attalie26a odtud vypluli do Antiochie, odkud byli předtím svěřeni Boží milosti k dílu, které nyní vykonali.27Když tam dorazili, shromáždili církev a vyprávěli, co všechno Bůh skrze ně učinil a že otevřel dveře víry pohanům.28Zůstali tam s učedníky po delší čas.
1Now at Iconium they entered together into the Jewish synagogue and spoke in such a way that a great number of both Jews and Greeks believed. (Sk 13,5)2But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers.[1] (J 3,36; J 21,23; Sk 13,50; Sk 19,9; Ř 15,31)3So they remained for a long time, speaking boldly for the Lord, who bore witness to the word of his grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands. (Mk 16,20; Sk 4,29; Sk 15,8; Sk 20,32; Žd 2,4)4But the people of the city were divided; some sided with the Jews and some with the apostles. (Sk 17,4; Sk 19,9; Sk 23,7; Sk 28,24)5When an attempt was made by both Gentiles and Jews, with their rulers, to mistreat them and to stone them, (Sk 14,19; 2K 12,10; 1Te 2,2)6they learned of it and fled to Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and to the surrounding country, (Mt 10,23; 2Tm 3,11)7and there they continued to preach the gospel.
Paul and Barnabas at Lystra
8Now at Lystra there was a man sitting who could not use his feet. He was crippled from birth and had never walked. (Sk 3,2)9He listened to Paul speaking. And Paul, looking intently at him and seeing that he had faith to be made well,[2] (Mt 9,2)10said in a loud voice, “Stand upright on your feet.” And he sprang up and began walking. (Iz 35,6; Sk 3,8)11And when the crowds saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in Lycaonian, “The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men!” (Sk 8,10; Sk 28,6)12Barnabas they called Zeus, and Paul, Hermes, because he was the chief speaker. (Sk 19,35; Sk 28,11)13And the priest of Zeus, whose temple was at the entrance to the city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates and wanted to offer sacrifice with the crowds. (Da 2,46; Sk 14,12)14But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of it, they tore their garments and rushed out into the crowd, crying out, (Gn 37,29)15“Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men, of like nature with you, and we bring you good news, that you should turn from these vain things to a living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all that is in them. Paul Stoned at Lystra
19But Jews came from Antioch and Iconium, and having persuaded the crowds, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead. (Sk 7,58; Sk 13,45; Sk 13,50; Sk 14,5; 2K 11,25; 2Tm 3,11)20But when the disciples gathered about him, he rose up and entered the city, and on the next day he went on with Barnabas to Derbe.21When they had preached the gospel to that city and had made many disciples, they returned to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch, (Mt 28,19)22strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God. Paul and Barnabas Return to Antioch in Syria
24Then they passed through Pisidia and came to Pamphylia.25And when they had spoken the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia,26and from there they sailed to Antioch, where they had been commended to the grace of God for the work that they had fulfilled. (Sk 13,3; Sk 15,40)27And when they arrived and gathered the church together, they declared all that God had done with them, and how he had opened a door of faith to the Gentiles. (Oz 2,15; Sk 11,18; Sk 15,3; Sk 15,4; Sk 15,12; Sk 21,19; 1K 16,9; 2K 2,12; Ko 4,3; Zj 3,8)28And they remained no little time with the disciples.
