1 Vlídná odpověď odvrací zlobu, příkrá řeč ale budí hněv. 2 Jazyk moudrých zpříjemňuje poznání, tupci z úst chrlí samé nesmysly. 3 Hospodinovy oči vidí všude, vše zlé i dobré pozorně sledují. 4 Krotký jazyk je stromem života, je-li však pokřivený, ducha podlomí. 5 Hlupák pohrdá poučením otce, chytrý je ten, kdo dá na domluvy. 6 Dům spravedlivého je velkou pokladnicí, zisky darebáka nesou jen trápení. 7 Rty moudrých vědění rozsévají, srdce tupců však nikoli. 8 Oběť darebáků se Hospodinu hnusí, zalíbení má v modlitbě poctivých. 9 Cesta darebáka se Hospodinu hnusí, stoupence spravedlnosti miluje. 10 Tvrdý trest tomu, kdo opouští stezku; kdo nesnese domluvy, ten umírá. 11 Hospodin vidí do hrobu i říše záhuby – do srdce člověka tím spíš! 12 Drzoun nemiluje toho, kdo jej kárá, a proto za moudrými nechodí. 13 Radostné srdce dodává tváři krásu, ztrápené srdce ducha ubíjí. 14 Srdce rozumného touží po vědění, ústa tupců se krmí tupostí. 15 Každý den chudáka bývá těžký, dobrotivé srdce však stále hoduje. 16 Lepší je málo s úctou k Hospodinu než velké poklady s neklidem. 17 Lepší je talíř zeleniny s láskou než vykrmený býk a s ním nenávist. 18 Vznětlivý člověk vzbuzuje sváry, trpělivý dovede spory uklidnit. 19 Cesta lenocha trním zarůstá, stezka poctivých je ale dlážděná. 20 Moudrý syn dělá otci radost, tupec i vlastní matkou pohrdá. 21 Nerozumného těší každá hloupost, rozvážný člověk drží přímý směr. 22 Bez porady se plány hroutí, při množství rádců se však naplní. 23 Výstižná odpověď udělá člověku radost; jak dobré je slovo v pravý čas! 24 Rozumné vede vzhůru cesta života, aby unikli peklu v hlubinách. 25 Hospodin strhne dům pyšných, mezníky vdovy ale upevní. 26 Zlé úmysly se Hospodinu hnusí, za čistá považuje slova laskavá. 27 Kdo se chce obohatit, ten vlastní domov boří, kdo nenávidí úplatky, ten bude žít. 28 Srdce spravedlivého promýšlí odpovědi, ústa darebáků chrlí hanebnost. 29 Darebákům je Hospodin velmi vzdálen, modlitbu spravedlivých ale vyslyší. 30 Zářivý pohled rozveselí srdce, dobrá novina až do morku osvěží. 31 Kdo zdravým domluvám otvírá uši, ten bude bydlet mezi moudrými. 32 Kdo odmítá poučení, pohrdá vlastní duší, kdo na domluvy dá, ten rozum nabere. 33 Školou moudrosti je úcta k Hospodinu; slávu předchází pokora.
