1„Projděte jeruzalémské ulice, dívejte se a pátrejte, prohledejte jeho tržiště. Najdete-li někoho, kdo dbá na právo a usiluje o věrnost, pak Jeruzalému prominu.2I když říkají: ‚Jakože Hospodin žije,‘ stejně přísahají křivě!“3Ty ale, Hospodine, přece jistě očima pátráš po věrnosti. Bil jsi je, ale necítili bolest, hubils je, ale nedali se poučit. Tváře zatvrdili víc než kámen, vrátit se odmítli.4Řekl jsem si: Jsou to jen chudáci; chovají se jako blázni, protože Hospodinovu cestu neznají, nevědí, co jejich Bůh nařídil.5Půjdu raději za mocnými a s nimi promluvím; ti přece Hospodinovu cestu znají, ti vědí, co jejich Bůh nařídil. Jenže ti také jeden jako druhý své jho rozlámali, postroje ze sebe strhali.[1]6Proto se na ně z lesa vrhne lev, vlk z pustiny je rozsápe, leopard bude číhat u jejich měst a roztrhá každého, kdo vyjde ven. Už bylo příliš jejich vzpour, jejich nevěry už bylo dost!7„Jak ti to mohu odpustit? Tví synové mě opustili a přísahají skrze nebohy.[2] Jen co jsem je nasytil, odešli cizoložit, houfem se valí do domu nevěstky.8Hřebci jedni vykrmení a vilní, po manželce bližního všichni řehtají.9Copak je mohu nechat bez trestu? praví Hospodin. Copak je nemám stihnout pomstou, když je ten národ takový?10Projděte jejich vinice a pustošte, ale nezničte je úplně. Odstraňte jejich výhonky, protože nejsou Hospodinovy.11Proradně mě totiž zradili – jak dům Izraele, tak dům Judy, praví Hospodin.“12Popírali Hospodina se slovy: „To není on! Na nás nepřijde žádná bída, nepocítíme meč ani hladomor.13Proroci jen tak do větru žvaní, nemají žádné poselství – ať se to stane jim samotným!“14Nuže, tak praví Hospodin, Bůh zástupů: „Protože říkají takové věci, hle, já ti dám do úst slova jako oheň, jenž spálí jako dříví tento lid.15Hle, dome Izraele, přivedu na vás národ zdaleka, praví Hospodin. Národ prastarý je to, národ odvěký, národ, jehož jazyk neznáš, a nerozumíš, co říkají.16Samí udatní hrdinové, jejich toulec zeje jako hrob.17Pohltí tvou úrodu i tvůj chléb, pohltí tvé syny i tvé dcery, pohltí tvé ovce i tvůj dobytek, pohltí tvou révu i tvé fíkoví. Mečem dobude tvá opevněná města, na která ses tak spoléhal.18Ale ani v těch dnech, praví Hospodin, s vámi neskoncuji.19Až se budou ptát: ‚Proč nám to všechno Hospodin, náš Bůh, udělal?‘ odpovíš jim: ‚Protože jste mě opustili a sloužili jste ve své zemi cizím bohům, proto budete v jiné zemi sloužit cizákům.‘20Oznamte to v domě Jákobově, v Judsku to rozhlaste:21Poslouchejte, vy nechápaví hlupáci, kteří mají oči, ale nevidí, mají uši, ale neslyší![3]22Neměli byste mě mít v úctě? praví Hospodin. Neměli byste se přede mnou chvět? Moři jsem pískem vytyčil hranice nepřekročitelným, věčným zákonem. Bouří se moře, ale nic nezmůže, vlny burácejí, ale nevylijí se.23Tento lid má však srdce odbojné a zpupné; odvrátili se a odešli.24Ani je nenapadlo říci: ‚Mějme Hospodina, svého Boha, v úctě! On dává podzimní i jarní deště v pravý čas, zachovává nám týdny určené pro sklizeň.‘25Vaše viny to ale pokazily, vaše hříchy vás těch darů zbavily!26V mém lidu se najdou zločinci, číhají schovaní jako ptáčníci, nastražili past, aby lidi lovili.27Jako je plno ptáků v kleci, tak jsou jejich domy plné lsti. Takhle dosáhli moci a bohatství,28vypasení jsou a otylí. Předhánějí se svými zločiny, o spravedlnost nestojí, práva sirotků neprosazují, nehájí chudé v jejich při.29Copak je mohu nechat bez trestu? praví Hospodin. Copak je nemám stihnout pomstou, když je ten národ takový?30Co se to v téhle zemi děje? Hrůza! Děs!31Proroci prorokují lživě, kněží vládnou na vlastní pěst a můj lid to takhle miluje! Co si však počnete nakonec?“
1Run to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, look and take note! Search her squares to see if you can find a man, one who does justice and seeks truth, that I may pardon her. (Gn 18,23; 2Pa 16,9; Jr 5,7)2Though they say, “As the Lord lives,” yet they swear falsely. (Jr 7,9; Tt 1,16)3O Lord, do not your eyes look for truth? You have struck them down, but they felt no anguish; you have consumed them, but they refused to take correction. They have made their faces harder than rock; they have refused to repent. (Jr 2,30; Ez 3,8)4Then I said, “These are only the poor; they have no sense; for they do not know the way of the Lord, the justice of their God. (Jr 8,7; Mi 3,1)5I will go to the great and will speak to them, for they know the way of the Lord, the justice of their God.” But they all alike had broken the yoke; they had burst the bonds. (Ž 2,3; Ž 107,14; Jr 2,20)6Therefore a lion from the forest shall strike them down; a wolf from the desert shall devastate them. A leopard is watching their cities; everyone who goes out of them shall be torn in pieces, because their transgressions are many, their apostasies are great. (Jr 2,19; Jr 4,7; Oz 13,7; Abk 1,8; Sf 3,3)7“How can I pardon you? Your children have forsaken me and have sworn by those who are no gods. When I fed them to the full, they committed adultery and trooped to the houses of whores. (Dt 32,15; Dt 32,21; Jz 23,7; 2Pa 13,9; Jr 5,1; Jr 9,2; Jr 23,10; Mi 5,1; Ga 4,8)8They were well-fed, lusty stallions, each neighing for his neighbor’s wife. (Jr 13,27; Jr 50,11; Ez 22,11)9Shall I not punish them for these things? declares the Lord; and shall I not avenge myself on a nation such as this? (Jr 5,29; Jr 9,9; Ř 2,2)10“Go up through her vine rows and destroy, but make not a full end; strip away her branches, for they are not the Lord’s. (Jr 4,27; Jr 39,8)11For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have been utterly treacherous to me, declares the Lord. (Jr 3,20)12They have spoken falsely of the Lord and have said, ‘He will do nothing; no disaster will come upon us, nor shall we see sword or famine. (Gn 3,4; Iz 28,15; Jr 14,13)13The prophets will become wind; the word is not in them. Thus shall it be done to them!’”
The Lord Proclaims Judgment
14Therefore thus says the Lord, the God of hosts: “Because you have spoken this word, behold, I am making my words in your mouth a fire, and this people wood, and the fire shall consume them. (Jr 1,9; Abd 1,18; Za 12,6; Zj 11,5)15Behold, I am bringing against you a nation from afar, O house of Israel, declares the Lord. It is an enduring nation; it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language you do not know, nor can you understand what they say. (Dt 28,49; Iz 33,19; Jr 1,15; Jr 34,21; Am 6,14)16Their quiver is like an open tomb; they are all mighty warriors. (Ž 5,9; Iz 5,28)17They shall eat up your harvest and your food; they shall eat up your sons and your daughters; they shall eat up your flocks and your herds; they shall eat up your vines and your fig trees; your fortified cities in which you trust they shall beat down with the sword.” (Lv 26,16; Dt 28,31; Dt 28,33; Dt 28,51; Oz 8,14)18“But even in those days, declares the Lord, I will not make a full end of you. (Jr 5,10)19And when your people say, ‘Why has the Lord our God done all these things to us?’ you shall say to them, ‘As you have forsaken me and served foreign gods in your land, so you shall serve foreigners in a land that is not yours.’” (Dt 4,27; Dt 28,47; Dt 28,68; Dt 29,24; 1Kr 9,8; Jr 13,22; Jr 16,10; Jr 22,8)20Declare this in the house of Jacob; proclaim it in Judah:21“Hear this, O foolish and senseless people, who have eyes, but see not, who have ears, but hear not. (Dt 32,6; Iz 6,9; Mt 13,14)22Do you not fear me? declares the Lord. Do you not tremble before me? I placed the sand as the boundary for the sea, a perpetual barrier that it cannot pass; though the waves toss, they cannot prevail; though they roar, they cannot pass over it. (Jb 26,10; Jb 38,10; Ž 46,3; Ž 104,9; Jr 10,7; Jr 51,55)23But this people has a stubborn and rebellious heart; they have turned aside and gone away. (Jr 6,28)24They do not say in their hearts, ‘Let us fear the Lord our God, who gives the rain in its season, the autumn rain and the spring rain, and keeps for us the weeks appointed for the harvest.’ (Gn 8,22; Dt 11,14; Jb 5,10; Ž 147,8; Jr 14,22; Mt 5,45)25Your iniquities have turned these away, and your sins have kept good from you. (Jr 3,3)26For wicked men are found among my people; they lurk like fowlers lying in wait.[1] They set a trap; they catch men. (Ž 10,9; Ž 124,7; Př 1,11)27Like a cage full of birds, their houses are full of deceit; therefore they have become great and rich;28they have grown fat and sleek. They know no bounds in deeds of evil; they judge not with justice the cause of the fatherless, to make it prosper, and they do not defend the rights of the needy. (Dt 32,15; Iz 1,23; Jr 7,6; Za 7,10)29Shall I not punish them for these things? declares the Lord, and shall I not avenge myself on a nation such as this?” (Jr 5,9)30An appalling and horrible thing has happened in the land: (Jr 23,14; Oz 6,10)31the prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule at their direction; my people love to have it so, but what will you do when the end comes? (Jr 6,13; Jr 14,14; Jr 14,18; Jr 20,6; Jr 23,21; Jr 23,25; Jr 27,10; Jr 27,15; Jr 29,9; Ez 13,6; Mi 2,11)
