3 For now they will say: “We have no king, for we do not fear the Lord; and a king—what could he do for us?” (1Sa 12:12; Ho 10:7; Ho 10:15) 

New International Version

3 Then they will say, ‘We have no king because we did not revere the Lord. But even if we had a king, what could he do for us?’ 

New International Reader’s Version

3 Then they’ll say, ‘We don’t have a king. That’s because we didn’t have any respect for the LORD. But suppose we did have a king. What could he do for us?’ 

King James Version

3 For now they shall say, We have no king, because we feared not the LORD; what then should a king do to us?
