3 And Jacob sent[1] messengers before him to Esau his brother in the land of Seir, the country of Edom, (Ge 36:8; De 2:5; Jos 24:4) 

New International Version

3 Jacob sent messengers ahead of him to his brother Esau in the land of Seir, the country of Edom. 

New International Reader’s Version

3 Jacob sent messengers ahead of him to his brother Esau. Esau lived in the land of Seir. It was also called the country of Edom. 

King James Version

3 And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother unto the land of Seir, the country of Edom.
