Acts 23:5

English Standard Version

5 And Paul said, “I did not know, brothers, that he was the high priest, for it is written, ‘You shall not speak evil of a ruler of your people.’” (Ex 22:28; Ac 24:1) 

New International Version

5 Paul replied, ‘Brothers, I did not realise that he was the high priest; for it is written: “Do not speak evil about the ruler of your people.” ’ (Ex 22:28) 

New International Reader’s Version

5 Paul replied, ‘Brothers, I didn’t realise he was the high priest. It is written, “Do not speak evil about the ruler of your people.” ’ (Ex 22:28) 

King James Version

5 Then said Paul, I wist not, brethren, that he was the high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people.
