21 For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. (Mt 11:29; Ac 14:22; 1Pe 2:20; 1Pe 3:9)

21 To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. 

New International Reader’s Version

21 You were chosen to do good even if you suffer. That’s because Christ suffered for you. He left you an example that he expects you to follow.
