English Standard Version

3 The sons of Judah: Er, Onan and Shelah; these three Bath-shua the Canaanite bore to him. Now Er, Judah’s firstborn, was evil in the sight of the Lord, and he put him to death. (Ge 38:2; Ge 38:7; Ge 46:12) 

New International Version

3 The sons of Judah: Er, Onan and Shelah. These three were born to him by a Canaanite woman, the daughter of Shua. (Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the Lord’s sight; so the Lord put him to death.) 

New International Reader’s Version

3 The sons of Judah were Er, Onan and Shelah. A woman from Canaan had these three sons by him. She was the daughter of Shua. Er was Judah’s eldest son. He was evil in the LORD’s sight. So the LORD put him to death. 

King James Version

3 The sons of Judah; Er, and Onan, and Shelah: which three were born unto him of the daughter of Shua the Canaanitess. And Er, the firstborn of Judah, was evil in the sight of the LORD; and he slew him.
