Der Tötungsplan des Hohen Rats

1 Und es geschah, als Jesus alle diese Reden beendet hatte, dass er zu seinen Jüngern sagte: 2 Ihr wisst, dass in zwei Tagen Passa ist; dann wird der Menschensohn ausgeliefert und gekreuzigt werden. (Mt 16,21) 3 Da versammelten sich die Hohen Priester und die Ältesten des Volkes im Palast des Hohen Priesters, der Kajafas hiess, 4 und sie beschlossen, Jesus mit List festzunehmen und zu töten. 5 Sie sagten aber: Nicht am Fest, damit kein Aufruhr entsteht im Volk. (Mt 14,5; Mt 21,26)

Die Salbung in Betanien

6 Als nun Jesus in Betanien im Hause Simons des Aussätzigen war, 7 kam eine Frau zu ihm mit einem Alabastergefäss voll kostbaren Öls und goss es über sein Haupt, als er bei Tisch sass. 8 Als die Jünger das sahen, wurden sie unwillig und sagten: Wozu diese Verschwendung? 9 Es hätte doch teuer verkauft werden können und wäre Armen zugute gekommen. 10 Als Jesus das merkte, sagte er zu ihnen: Was bringt ihr die Frau in Verlegenheit? Sie hat eine schöne Tat an mir vollbracht. 11 Arme habt ihr ja allezeit bei euch, mich aber habt ihr nicht allezeit. (5Mo 9,15; 5Mo 15,11) 12 Dass sie nämlich dieses Öl auf meinen Leib goss, das hat sie für mein Begräbnis getan. 13 Amen, ich sage euch: Wo immer in der ganzen Welt dieses Evangelium verkündigt wird, da wird auch erzählt werden, was sie getan hat, zu ihrem Gedächtnis. (Mt 28,19)

Der Plan des Judas

14 Da ging einer von den Zwölfen, der Judas Iskariot hiess, zu den Hohen Priestern 15 und sagte: Was wollt ihr mir geben, wenn ich ihn an euch ausliefere? Und sie vereinbarten mit ihm dreissig Silberstücke. (Sach 11,12; Mt 27,3) 16 Von da an suchte er eine günstige Gelegenheit, ihn auszuliefern.

Die Vorbereitung des letzten Mahls

17 Am ersten Tag der ungesäuerten Brote kamen die Jünger zu Jesus und sagten: Wo willst du, dass wir dir das Passamahl bereiten? (2Mo 12,15) 18 Er sprach: Geht in die Stadt zu dem und dem und sagt zu ihm: Der Meister lässt dir sagen: Meine Zeit ist nahe, bei dir will ich mit meinen Jüngern das Passa feiern. 19 Und die Jünger taten, wie Jesus ihnen befohlen hatte. Und sie bereiteten das Passamahl.

Die Ankündigung der Auslieferung

20 Am Abend sass er mit den Zwölfen bei Tisch. (Lk 22,14) 21 Und während sie assen, sprach er: Amen, ich sage euch: Einer von euch wird mich ausliefern. 22 Und sie wurden sehr traurig und begannen, einer nach dem andern, ihn zu fragen: Bin etwa ich es, Herr? 23 Er aber antwortete: Der die Hand mit mir in die Schüssel taucht, der wird mich ausliefern. 24 Der Menschensohn geht zwar dahin, wie über ihn geschrieben steht, doch wehe dem Menschen, durch den der Menschensohn ausgeliefert wird. Es wäre besser, er wäre nicht geboren, dieser Mensch! (Mt 18,7) 25 Da entgegnete Judas, der ihn ausliefern sollte: Bin etwa ich es, Rabbi? Da antwortet er ihm: Du sagst es!

Das letzte Mahl

26 Während sie aber assen, nahm Jesus Brot, sprach den Lobpreis, brach es und gab es den Jüngern und sprach: Nehmt, esst! Das ist mein Leib. (Mt 14,19; Mt 15,36; 1Kor 10,16; 1Kor 11,23)

27 Und er nahm einen Kelch und sprach das Dankgebet, gab ihnen den und sprach: Trinkt alle daraus! 28 Denn das ist mein Blut des Bundes, das für viele vergossen wird zur Vergebung der Sünden. (2Mo 24,8; 1Kor 10,16; 1Kor 11,25) 29 Ich sage euch aber: Ich werde von dieser Frucht des Weinstocks nicht mehr trinken von nun an bis zu dem Tag, da ich aufs Neue mit euch davon trinken werde im Reich meines Vaters.

Die Ankündigung der Verleugnung

30 Und als sie den Lobgesang gesungen hatten, gingen sie hinaus auf den Ölberg. (Lk 22,39; Joh 18,1) 31 Da sagt Jesus zu ihnen: Ihr alle werdet in dieser Nacht an mir zu Fall kommen, denn es steht geschrieben: Ich werde den Hirten schlagen, und die Schafe der Herde werden sich zerstreuen. (Sach 13,7; Joh 16,32) 32 Nach meiner Auferweckung aber werde ich euch nach Galiläa vorausgehen. (Mt 28,7) 33 Petrus antwortete ihm: Wenn alle an dir zu Fall kommen - ich werde niemals zu Fall kommen! (Mt 20,22) 34 Jesus sagt zu ihm: Amen, ich sage dir: In dieser Nacht, ehe der Hahn kräht, wirst du mich dreimal verleugnet haben. (Mt 26,69) 35 Da sagt Petrus zu ihm: Selbst wenn ich mit dir sterben müsste - ich werde dich nicht verleugnen. Ebenso redeten auch alle anderen Jünger. (Joh 11,16)

In Getsemani

36 Da kommt Jesus mit ihnen an einen Ort namens Getsemani und sagt zu den Jüngern: Bleibt hier sitzen, solange ich weg bin und dort bete. (Joh 18,1) 37 Und er nahm Petrus und die zwei Söhne des Zebedäus mit sich, und er wurde immer trauriger und mutloser. 38 Da sagt er zu ihnen: Meine Seele ist zu Tode betrübt, bleibt hier und wacht mit mir. (Ps 42,6; Ps 43,5; Joh 12,27) 39 Und er ging ein wenig weiter, fiel auf sein Angesicht und betete: Mein Vater, wenn es möglich ist, so gehe dieser Kelch an mir vorüber. Doch nicht wie ich will, sondern wie du willst. (Mt 20,22; Joh 6,10; Joh 18,11) 40 Und er kommt zu den Jüngern zurück und findet sie schlafend. Und er sagt zu Petrus: So vermochtet ihr denn nicht eine Stunde mit mir wach zu bleiben? 41 Wacht und betet, dass ihr nicht in Versuchung kommt! Der Geist ist willig, das Fleisch aber schwach. (Mt 6,13) 42 Wieder ging er weg, ein zweites Mal, und betete: Mein Vater, wenn dieser Kelch nicht an mir vorübergehen kann, ohne dass ich ihn trinke, so geschehe dein Wille. (Mt 6,10) 43 Und er kam wieder zurück und fand sie schlafend, denn die Augen waren ihnen schwer geworden. 44 Und er verliess sie, ging wieder weg und betete zum dritten Mal, wieder mit denselben Worten. 45 Dann kommt er zu den Jüngern zurück und sagt zu ihnen: Schlaft nur weiter und ruht euch aus! Seht, die Stunde ist gekommen, da der Menschensohn in die Hände von Sündern ausgeliefert wird. 46 Steht auf, lasst uns gehen! Seht, der mich ausliefert, ist da.

Die Gefangennahme

47 Und während er noch redete, da kam Judas, einer von den Zwölfen, und mit ihm eine grosse Schar mit Schwertern und Knüppeln im Auftrag der Hohen Priester und der Ältesten des Volkes. 48 Der ihn aber auslieferte, hatte mit ihnen ein Zeichen verabredet: Den ich küssen werde, der ist es. Den nehmt fest! 49 Und sogleich ging er auf Jesus zu und sagte: Sei gegrüsst, Rabbi, und küsste ihn. (Mt 27,29) 50 Jesus sagte zu ihm: Freund, dazu bist du gekommen! Da kamen sie auf ihn zu, ergriffen ihn und nahmen ihn fest. 51 Da hob einer von denen, die mit Jesus waren, seine Hand und zog sein Schwert, schlug nach dem Knecht des Hohen Priesters und hieb ihm das Ohr ab. 52 Da sagt Jesus zu ihm: Steck dein Schwert an seinen Ort! Denn alle, die zum Schwert greifen, werden durch das Schwert umkommen. (1Mo 9,6) 53 Oder meinst du, ich könnte meinen Vater nicht bitten und er würde mir nicht sogleich mehr als zwölf Legionen Engel zur Seite stellen? (Ps 91,11; Mt 4,11) 54 Doch wie würden dann die Schriften in Erfüllung gehen, nach denen es so geschehen muss? (Jes 53,7) 55 Zu jener Stunde sagte Jesus zu den Leuten: Wie gegen einen Räuber seid ihr ausgezogen, mit Schwertern und Knüppeln, mich gefangen zu nehmen? Tag für Tag sass ich im Tempel und lehrte, und ihr habt mich nicht festgenommen. (Mt 21,23; Lk 19,47; Joh 18,20) 56 Dies alles aber ist geschehen, damit die Schriften der Propheten in Erfüllung gehen. Da verliessen ihn die Jünger alle und flohen. (Mt 26,31)

Die Verhandlung vor dem Hohen Rat

57 Die aber, die Jesus festgenommen hatten, führten ihn vor den Hohen Priester Kajafas, wo sich die Schriftgelehrten und die Ältesten versammelt hatten. 58 Petrus aber folgte ihm von weitem bis zum Palast des Hohen Priesters; und er ging hinein und setzte sich zu den Gerichtsdienern, um zu sehen, wie es enden würde. 59 Die Hohen Priester aber und der ganze Hohe Rat suchten nach einer falschen Zeugenaussage gegen Jesus, um ihn töten zu können; (Ps 27,12) 60 doch sie fanden keine, obwohl viele falsche Zeugen auftraten. Zuletzt aber traten zwei auf 61 und sagten: Dieser hat behauptet: Ich kann den Tempel Gottes niederreissen und in drei Tagen wieder aufbauen. (Joh 2,19; Apg 6,14) 62 Und der Hohe Priester erhob sich und sagte zu ihm: Antwortest du nichts auf das, was diese gegen dich vorbringen? 63 Jesus aber schwieg. Und der Hohe Priester sagte zu ihm: Ich beschwöre dich bei dem lebendigen Gott, uns zu sagen, ob du der Messias bist, der Sohn Gottes. (Mt 16,16) 64 Da sagt Jesus zu ihm: Du sagst es. Doch ich sage euch: Von nun an werdet ihr den Menschensohn sitzen sehen zur Rechten der Macht und kommen auf den Wolken des Himmels. (Ps 110,1; Dan 7,13; Mt 22,44; Mt 27,11)

65 Da zerriss der Hohe Priester seine Kleider und sagte: Er hat gelästert. Was brauchen wir noch Zeugen? Jetzt habt ihr die Lästerung gehört! (Mt 9,3) 66 Was meint ihr? Sie antworteten: Er ist des Todes schuldig! (3Mo 24,16) 67 Da spuckten sie ihm ins Gesicht und schlugen ihn mit den Fäusten, andere aber ohrfeigten ihn (Jes 50,6; Mt 27,30) 68 und sagten: Weissage uns, Messias: Wer ist es, der dich geschlagen hat?

Die Verleugnung durch Petrus

69 Petrus aber sass draussen im Hof. Und eine Magd trat zu ihm und sagte: Auch du warst mit Jesus, dem Galiläer. (Mt 26,58) 70 Er aber leugnete es vor allen und sagte: Ich weiss nicht, wovon du sprichst! 71 Als er aber in die Torhalle hinausging, sah ihn eine andere, und sagte zu denen, die dort waren: Dieser war mit Jesus, dem Nazarener! 72 Und wieder leugnete er es und schwor: Ich kenne den Menschen nicht. 73 Nach einer Weile traten die Umstehenden auf Petrus zu und sagten: Natürlich, auch du bist einer von ihnen, deine Sprache verrät dich ja. 74 Da begann er zu fluchen und zu schwören: Ich kenne den Menschen nicht. Und dann krähte der Hahn. 75 Da erinnerte sich Petrus an das Wort Jesu, der zu ihm gesagt hatte: Ehe der Hahn kräht, wirst du mich dreimal verleugnen. Und er ging hinaus und weinte bitterlich. (Mt 26,34)

The plot against Jesus

1 When Jesus had finished saying all these things, he said to his disciples, 2 ‘As you know, the Passover is two days away – and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.’ 3 Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas, 4 and they schemed to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him. 5 ‘But not during the festival,’ they said, ‘or there may be a riot among the people.’

Jesus anointed at Bethany

6 While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of Simon the Leper, 7 a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table. 8 When the disciples saw this, they were indignant. ‘Why this waste?’ they asked. 9 ‘This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor.’ 10 Aware of this, Jesus said to them, ‘Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 11 The poor you will always have with you,^[1] but you will not always have me. (5Mo 15,11) 12 When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial. 13 Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.’

Judas agrees to betray Jesus

14 Then one of the Twelve – the one called Judas Iscariot – went to the chief priests 15 and asked, ‘What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?’ So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver. 16 From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.

The Last Supper

17 On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked, ‘Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?’ 18 He replied, ‘Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, “The Teacher says: my appointed time is near. I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.” ’ 19 So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover. 20 When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the Twelve. 21 And while they were eating, he said, ‘Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.’ 22 They were very sad and began to say to him one after the other, ‘Surely you don’t mean me, Lord?’ 23 Jesus replied, ‘The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me. 24 The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.’ 25 Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, ‘Surely you don’t mean me, Rabbi?’ Jesus answered, ‘You have said so.’ 26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, ‘Take and eat; this is my body.’ 27 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, ‘Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the^[2] covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.’ 30 When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

Jesus predicts Peter’s denial

31 Then Jesus told them, ‘This very night you will all fall away on account of me, for it is written: ‘ “I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.” (Sach 13,7) 32 But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.’ 33 Peter replied, ‘Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will.’ 34 ‘Truly I tell you,’ Jesus answered, ‘this very night, before the cock crows, you will disown me three times.’ 35 But Peter declared, ‘Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you.’ And all the other disciples said the same.

Gethsemane

36 Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, ‘Sit here while I go over there and pray.’ 37 He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then he said to them, ‘My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.’ 39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, ‘My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.’ 40 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. ‘Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?’ he asked Peter. 41 ‘Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.’ 42 He went away a second time and prayed, ‘My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.’ 43 When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. 44 So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing. 45 Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, ‘Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour has come, and the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!’

Jesus arrested

47 While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived. With him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and the elders of the people. 48 Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: ‘The one I kiss is the man; arrest him.’ 49 Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, ‘Greetings, Rabbi!’ and kissed him. 50 Jesus replied, ‘Do what you came for, friend.’^[3] Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him. 51 With that, one of Jesus’ companions reached for his sword, drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear. 52 ‘Put your sword back in its place,’ Jesus said to him, ‘for all who draw the sword will die by the sword. 53 Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? 54 But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?’ 55 In that hour Jesus said to the crowd, ‘Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple courts teaching, and you did not arrest me. 56 But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled.’ Then all the disciples deserted him and fled.

Jesus before the Sanhedrin

57 Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the teachers of the law and the elders had assembled. 58 But Peter followed him at a distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest. He entered and sat down with the guards to see the outcome. 59 The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death. 60 But they did not find any, though many false witnesses came forward. Finally two came forward 61 and declared, ‘This fellow said, “I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.” ’ 62 Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, ‘Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?’ 63 But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, ‘I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.’ 64 ‘You have said so,’ Jesus replied. ‘But I say to all of you: from now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.’^[4] (Ps 110,1; Dan 7,13) 65 Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, ‘He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy. 66 What do you think?’ ‘He is worthy of death,’ they answered. 67 Then they spat in his face and struck him with their fists. Others slapped him 68 and said, ‘Prophesy to us, Messiah. Who hit you?’

Peter disowns Jesus

69 Now Peter was sitting out in the courtyard, and a servant-girl came to him. ‘You also were with Jesus of Galilee,’ she said. 70 But he denied it before them all. ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about,’ he said. 71 Then he went out to the gateway, where another servant-girl saw him and said to the people there, ‘This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth.’ 72 He denied it again, with an oath: ‘I don’t know the man!’ 73 After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, ‘Surely you are one of them; your accent gives you away.’ 74 Then he began to call down curses, and he swore to them, ‘I don’t know the man!’ Immediately a cock crowed. 75 Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: ‘Before the cock crows, you will disown me three times.’ And he went outside and wept bitterly.
