1Und der HERR sprach zu Mose: Geh hin, zieh von hier hinauf, du und das Volk, das du aus dem Land Ägypten heraufgeführt hast, in das Land, das ich Abraham, Isaak und Jakob mit einem Eid versprochen habe, indem ich sagte: Deinem Samen will ich es geben! (2Mo 32,13)2— ich will aber einen Engel vor dir hersenden und die Kanaaniter, Amoriter, Hetiter, Pheresiter, Hewiter und Jebusiter vertreiben —, (2Mo 23,20; 2Mo 32,34)3in das Land, in dem Milch und Honig fließt. Das Zelt der Zusammenkunft außerhalb des Lagers
7Mose aber nahm das Zelt und schlug es sich außerhalb des Lagers auf, fern von dem Lager, und er nannte es »Zelt der Zusammenkunft«.[1] Und so geschah es, dass jeder, der den HERRN suchte, zum Zelt der Zusammenkunft hinausgehen musste, das außerhalb des Lagers war. (5Mo 4,29; Lk 11,9; Hebr 13,11)8Und es geschah, wenn Mose hinausging zu dem Zelt, dann stand das ganze Volk auf, und jedermann blieb stehen am Eingang seines Zeltes und sah Mose nach, bis er in das Zelt hineingegangen war.9Und es geschah, wenn Mose in das Zelt hineinging, so kam die Wolkensäule herab und stand am Eingang des Zeltes, und Er redete mit Mose. (4Mo 12,8; Ps 99,7)10Und wenn das ganze Volk die Wolkensäule am Eingang des Zeltes stehen sah, dann standen sie alle auf und verneigten sich, jeder am Eingang seines Zeltes. Mose schaut die Herrlichkeit des Herrn
12Und Mose sprach zu dem HERRN: Siehe, du sprichst zu mir: Führe das Volk hinauf; aber du lässt mich nicht wissen, wen du mit mir senden willst; und doch hast du gesagt: Ich kenne dich mit Namen, und du hast Gnade gefunden vor meinen Augen. Jeder, der den HERRN etwas fragen wollte, ging dorthin. (2Mo 29,42)8Immer wenn Mose zum Zelt der Begegnung hinausging, erhoben sich alle Israeliten und traten an den Eingang ihrer Zelte. Sie schauten hinter Mose her, bis er in das Zelt hineingegangen war. (4Mo 16,27)9Sobald Mose das Zelt betreten hatte, ließ sich die Wolkensäule nieder und lagerte vor dem Eingang, während der HERR mit Mose sprach. Mose sieht die Herrlichkeit des HERRN
12Mose sagte zum HERRN: »Du hast mir zwar den Auftrag gegeben, dieses Volk nach Kanaan zu führen, aber du hast mir nicht gesagt, wen du mit mir schicken willst. Du hast gesagt, dass du mich kennst und dass du mir freundlich gesinnt bist. (2Mo 3,10; 2Mo 32,34; Joh 10,14; 2Tim 2,19)13Wenn dem wirklich so ist, dann zeig mir doch, was du vorhast, damit ich dich besser verstehe und merke, dass du mir freundlich gesinnt bist. Denk doch daran, dass dieses Volk dein Volk ist.« (2Mo 34,9; Ps 25,4; Ps 27,11)14Der HERR antwortete ihm: »Ich selbst werde mit dir gehen, Mose. Ich will dir Ruhe verschaffen.« (2Mo 13,21; Jos 22,4; Jes 63,9)15Da entgegnete Mose: »Wenn du nicht selbst mit uns gehst, dann führe uns nicht von hier weg.16Denn woran soll man erkennen, dass du deinem Volk und mir wohlgesinnt bist? Ich schenke meine Gnade und mein Erbarmen, wem ich will.[3] (Röm 9,15)20Mein Gesicht kannst du jedoch nicht sehen, denn jeder Mensch, der mich sieht, muss sterben.« (Jes 6,5; Joh 1,18; 1Tim 6,16)21Dann fuhr der HERR fort: »Stell dich hier auf diesen Felsen neben mich.22Wenn ich dann in meiner Herrlichkeit vorüberziehe, werde ich dich in die Felsspalte stellen und meine Hand schützend über dich halten, bis ich vorübergegangen bin. (Ps 91,1; Jes 49,2; Jes 51,16)23Dann will ich meine Hand wegnehmen und du wirst mir hinterher sehen. Mein Gesicht aber kann niemand sehen.« (Joh 1,18)

The Tent of Meeting
7Now Moses used to take the tent and pitch it outside the camp, far off from the camp, and he called it the tent of meeting. And everyone who sought the Lord would go out to the tent of meeting, which was outside the camp. (2Mo 29,42; 5Mo 4,29; 2Sam 21,1; 1Chr 16,10; Ps 40,16)8Whenever Moses went out to the tent, all the people would rise up, and each would stand at his tent door, and watch Moses until he had gone into the tent. (4Mo 16,27)9When Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud would descend and stand at the entrance of the tent, and the Lord[1] would speak with Moses. (2Mo 13,21)10And when all the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance of the tent, all the people would rise up and worship, each at his tent door.11Thus the Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. Moses’ Intercession
12Moses said to the Lord, “See, you say to me, ‘Bring up this people,’ but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. Yet you have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found favor in my sight.’ (2Mo 32,34; 2Mo 33,17)13Now therefore, if I have found favor in your sight, please show me now your ways, that I may know you in order to find favor in your sight. If I went with you even for a moment, I might destroy you. Now take off your jewellery. Then I will decide what to do with you.” ’6So the people took off their jewellery at Mount Horeb.
The tent of meeting
7Moses used to take a tent and set it up far outside the camp. He called it the ‘tent of meeting.’ Anyone who wanted to ask the LORD a question would go to the tent of meeting outside the camp.8When Moses would go out to the tent, everyone would get up and stand at the entrances to their tents. They would watch Moses until he entered the tent.9Whenever Moses went into the tent, the pillar of cloud would come down. It would stay at the entrance while the LORD spoke with Moses.10The people would see the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance to the tent. Then all of them would stand and worship at the entrances to their tents.11The LORD would speak to Moses face to face as one would speak to a friend. Then Moses would return to the camp. But Joshua, his young helper, didn’t leave the tent. Joshua was the son of Nun.
Moses and the glory of the Lord
12Moses said to the LORD, ‘You have been telling me, “Lead these people.” But you haven’t let me know whom you will send with me. You have said, “I know your name. I know all about you. And I am pleased with you.”13If you are pleased with me, teach me more about yourself. Then I can know you. And I can continue to please you. Remember that this nation is your people.’14The LORD replied, ‘I will go with you. And I will give you rest.’15Then Moses said to him, ‘If you don’t go with us, don’t send us up from here.16How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and your people? You must go with us. How else will we be different from all the other people on the face of the earth?’17The LORD said to Moses, ‘I will do exactly what you have asked. I am pleased with you. And I know your name. I know all about you.’18Then Moses said, ‘Now show me your glory.’19The LORD said, ‘I will make all my goodness pass in front of you. And I will announce my name, the LORD, in front of you. I will have mercy on whom I have mercy.
