Der Herr tröstet seine Jünger. Jesus Christus, der einzige Weg zum Vater
1Euer Herz erschrecke nicht! Glaubt an Gott und glaubt an mich! (Ps 42,12; Jes 43,1; Mk 11,22; Joh 16,33; Offb 2,10)2Im Haus meines Vaters sind viele Wohnungen; wenn nicht, so hätte ich es euch gesagt. Ich gehe hin, um euch eine Stätte zu bereiten. (2Kor 5,1; 2Kor 5,8)3Und wenn ich hingehe und euch eine Stätte bereite, so komme ich wieder und werde euch zu mir nehmen, damit auch ihr seid, wo ich bin. (Joh 14,18; Joh 17,24; 1Thess 4,17)4Wohin ich aber gehe, wisst ihr, und ihr kennt den Weg.5Thomas spricht zu ihm: Herr, wir wissen nicht, wohin du gehst, und wie können wir den Weg kennen? (Joh 11,16; Joh 20,24)6Jesus spricht zu ihm: Ich bin der Weg und die Wahrheit und das Leben; niemand kommt zum Vater als nur durch mich! Die Worte, die ich zu euch rede, rede ich nicht aus mir selbst; und der Vater, der in mir wohnt, der tut die Werke. Die Verheißung des Heiligen Geistes. Gehorsam und Liebe
15Liebt ihr mich, so haltet meine Gebote! (Ps 97,10)16Und ich will den Vater bitten, und er wird euch einen anderen Beistand[1] geben, dass er bei euch bleibt in Ewigkeit, (Mt 28,20; Joh 15,26; Hebr 7,25; 1Joh 2,1)17den Geist der Wahrheit, den die Welt nicht empfangen kann, denn sie beachtet ihn nicht und erkennt ihn nicht; ihr aber erkennt ihn, denn er bleibt bei euch und wird in euch sein. (Joh 16,13; Röm 8,9; 1Kor 2,14; 1Kor 3,16)18Ich lasse euch nicht als Waisen zurück; ich komme zu euch. (2Tim 4,17)19Noch eine kleine Weile, und die Welt sieht mich nicht mehr; ihr aber seht mich; weil ich lebe, sollt auch ihr leben! (Apg 10,40; 2Kor 3,18; 2Kor 4,11; Eph 2,5)20An jenem Tag werdet ihr erkennen, dass ich in meinem Vater bin und ihr in mir und ich in euch. (2Kor 13,5)21Wer meine Gebote festhält und sie befolgt, der ist es, der mich liebt; wer aber mich liebt, der wird von meinem Vater geliebt werden, und ich werde ihn lieben und mich ihm offenbaren. (Joh 14,23; 1Joh 5,3)22Da spricht Judas — nicht der Ischariot — zu ihm: Herr, wie kommt es, dass du dich uns offenbaren willst und nicht der Welt? (Lk 6,16; Apg 1,13; Jud 1,1)23Jesus antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Wenn jemand mich liebt, so wird er mein Wort befolgen, und mein Vater wird ihn lieben, und wir werden zu ihm kommen und Wohnung bei ihm machen. (2Mo 25,8; 3Mo 26,11; 1Joh 3,24; Offb 3,20)24Wer mich nicht liebt, der befolgt meine Worte nicht; und das Wort, das ihr hört, ist nicht mein, sondern des Vaters, der mich gesandt hat. (1Joh 2,4)25Dies habe ich zu euch gesprochen, während ich noch bei euch bin;26der Beistand aber, der Heilige Geist, den der Vater senden wird in meinem Namen, der wird euch alles lehren und euch an alles erinnern, was ich euch gesagt habe. (Joh 14,16; Apg 2,33; 1Kor 2,12; 1Joh 2,20)
Der Friede Jesu Christi
27Frieden hinterlasse ich euch; meinen Frieden gebe ich euch. Nicht wie die Welt gibt, gebe ich euch; euer Herz erschrecke nicht und verzage nicht! (Mt 5,45; Mk 4,40; Joh 16,33; Röm 5,1; Röm 8,37; Eph 2,14; 2Thess 3,16)28Ihr habt gehört, dass ich euch sagte: Ich gehe hin, und ich komme zu euch! Wenn ihr mich lieb hättet, so würdet ihr euch freuen, dass ich gesagt habe: Ich gehe zum Vater; denn mein Vater ist größer als ich. (Joh 14,3; Joh 14,12; Joh 14,18; 1Kor 15,28)29Und nun habe ich es euch gesagt, ehe es geschieht, damit ihr glaubt, wenn es geschieht. (Joh 13,19)30Ich werde nicht mehr viel mit euch reden; denn es kommt der Fürst dieser Welt, und in mir hat er nichts[2]. (Joh 12,31)31Damit aber die Welt erkennt, dass ich den Vater liebe und so handle, wie es mir der Vater geboten hat: Steht auf und lasst uns von hier fortgehen! (Mt 26,30; Joh 10,17)
1‘Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God[1]; believe also in me.2My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.4You know the way to the place where I am going.’
Jesus the way to the Father
5Thomas said to him, ‘Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?’6Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me.7If you really know me, you will know[2] my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.’8Philip said, ‘Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.’9Jesus answered: ‘Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, “Show us the Father”?10Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.11Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.12Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.13And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.14You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
Jesus promises the Holy Spirit
15‘If you love me, keep my commands.16And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you for ever –17the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be[3] in you.18I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.19Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.20On that day you will realise that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.21Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.’22Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, ‘But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?’23Jesus replied, ‘Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.24Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.25‘All this I have spoken while still with you.26But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.27Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.28‘You heard me say, “I am going away and I am coming back to you.” If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.29I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe.30I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me,31but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me. ‘Come now; let us leave.
