Der Herr befiehlt die Ausrottung der Kanaaniter und ihres Götzendienstes
1Wenn der HERR, dein Gott, dich in das Land bringt, in das du kommen wirst, um es in Besitz zu nehmen, und wenn er vor dir her viele Völker vertilgt, die Hetiter, die Girgasiter, die Amoriter, die Kanaaniter, die Pheresiter, die Hewiter und die Jebusiter, sieben Völker, die größer und stärker sind als du; (1Mo 15,18; 5Mo 4,38; 5Mo 9,1; 5Mo 31,3; Ps 44,3)2und wenn sie der HERR, dein Gott, vor dir dahingibt, dass du sie schlägst, so sollst du unbedingt an ihnen den Bann vollstrecken; du sollst keinen Bund mit ihnen machen und ihnen keine Gnade erweisen. (2Mo 23,32; Jos 10,40)3Und du sollst dich mit ihnen nicht verschwägern; du sollst deine Töchter nicht ihren Söhnen [zur Frau] geben, noch ihre Töchter für deine Söhne nehmen; (2Mo 34,16; Ri 3,5; 1Kön 11,1; Esr 9,1)4denn sie würden deine Söhne von mir abwendig machen, dass sie anderen Göttern dienen; und dann wird der Zorn des HERRN über euch entbrennen und euch bald vertilgen. (5Mo 6,15; Ps 106,36)5Vielmehr sollt ihr so mit ihnen verfahren: Ihre Altäre sollt ihr niederreißen, ihre Gedenksteine zerbrechen, ihre Aschera-Standbilder zerschlagen und ihre Götzenbildnisse mit Feuer verbrennen. (2Mo 23,24; 2Kön 18,4)
Israel — das heilige Volk des Herrn
6Denn ein heiliges Volk bist du für den HERRN, deinen Gott; dich hat der HERR, dein Gott, aus allen Völkern erwählt, die auf Erden sind, damit du ein Volk des Eigentums für ihn seist. (2Mo 19,5; 3Mo 20,26; 5Mo 4,20; 5Mo 14,2; Ps 135,4; 1Petr 2,9)7Nicht deshalb, weil ihr zahlreicher wärt als alle Völker, hat der HERR sein Herz euch zugewandt und euch erwählt — denn ihr seid das geringste unter allen Völkern —, (5Mo 10,22; 5Mo 26,5; Joh 15,16; 1Kor 1,26; 2Thess 2,13; Jak 2,5)8sondern weil der HERR euch liebte und weil er den Eid halten wollte, den er euren Vätern geschworen hatte, darum hat der HERR euch mit starker Hand herausgeführt und dich erlöst aus dem Haus der Knechtschaft, aus der Hand des Pharao, des Königs von Ägypten. (2Mo 20,2; 5Mo 4,37; Ps 105,8; Lk 1,73; 1Joh 4,10)9So erkenne nun, dass der HERR, dein Gott, der wahre Gott ist, der treue Gott, der den Bund und die Gnade denen bewahrt, die ihn lieben und seine Gebote bewahren, auf tausend Generationen; (2Mo 20,6; 5Mo 4,35; Neh 9,33; Ps 36,6; 1Kor 1,9; 2Tim 2,13; Hebr 10,23)10er vergilt aber auch jedem, der ihn hasst, ins Angesicht und bringt ihn um; er zögert nicht, dem zu vergelten, der ihn hasst, sondern vergilt ihm ins Angesicht. (Ps 21,9; Jes 59,18; Nah 1,2)11So bewahre nun das Gebot und die Satzungen und Rechtsbestimmungen, die ich dir heute gebiete, damit du sie tust! (5Mo 4,1; 5Mo 4,5; 5Mo 5,1; 5Mo 5,29; 5Mo 5,33; Joh 14,15)
Ermutigung und Segensverheißung für die Einnahme des Landes
12Und es wird geschehen, wenn ihr auf diese Rechtsbestimmungen hört, sie bewahrt und tut, so wird der HERR, dein Gott, auch dir den Bund und die Gnade bewahren, die er deinen Vätern geschworen hat. (5Mo 28,1; Dan 9,4; Mi 7,20)13Und er wird dich lieben und dich segnen und mehren; er wird segnen die Frucht deines Leibes und die Frucht deines Landes, dein Korn, deinen Most und dein Öl, den Wurf deiner Kühe und die Zucht deiner Schafe, in dem Land, das er deinen Vätern geschworen hat, dir zu geben. (Ps 28,2; Ps 144,12; Joh 14,21)14Gesegnet wirst du sein vor allen Völkern. Es wird kein Unfruchtbarer und keine Unfruchtbare unter dir sein, auch nicht unter deinem Vieh. (2Mo 23,26; Jes 61,9)15Und der HERR wird jede Krankheit von dir abwenden, und er wird keine von den bösen Seuchen Ägyptens auf dich legen, die du kennst, sondern wird sie auf alle diejenigen bringen, die dich hassen. (2Mo 15,26)16Du sollst alle Völker verzehren, die der HERR, dein Gott, dir gibt. Dein Auge soll nicht mitleidig auf sie schauen, und du sollst ihren Göttern nicht dienen; denn das würde dir zum Fallstrick werden. (2Mo 23,33; 4Mo 24,8; 5Mo 7,2; 5Mo 13,9)17Wenn du aber in deinem Herzen sagst: Diese Völker sind zahlreicher als ich! Wie kann ich sie aus ihrem Besitz vertreiben?, (5Mo 1,28)18so fürchte dich nicht vor ihnen! Gedenke doch an das, was der HERR, dein Gott, dem Pharao und allen Ägyptern getan hat; (Ps 27,1)19an die gewaltigen Prüfungen, die deine Augen gesehen haben, an die Zeichen und Wunder und an die starke Hand und den ausgestreckten Arm, mit denen der HERR, dein Gott, dich herausgeführt hat. So wird der HERR, dein Gott, an allen Völkern handeln, vor denen du dich fürchtest! (5Mo 9,1; Neh 9,10; Ps 77,12)20Dazu wird der HERR, dein Gott, Hornissen unter sie senden, bis die Übriggebliebenen und diejenigen, die sich vor dir versteckt hielten, umgekommen sind. (2Mo 23,28; Jos 24,12)21Lass dir nicht grauen vor ihnen, denn der HERR, dein Gott, ist in deiner Mitte, ein großer und furchtgebietender Gott. (Jos 3,10; Neh 1,5; Neh 4,14; Neh 9,32; Ps 46,6; Ps 46,8; Röm 8,31)22Und der HERR, dein Gott, wird diese Völker nach und nach vor dir vertreiben; du kannst sie nicht rasch aufreiben, sonst würden sich die Tiere des Feldes zu deinem Schaden vermehren. (2Mo 23,29)23Der HERR, dein Gott, wird sie vor dir dahingeben und sie in große Verwirrung bringen, bis sie vertilgt sind. (Jos 10,10)24Und er wird ihre Könige in deine Hand geben, und du sollst ihre Namen unter dem Himmel ausrotten. Kein Mensch wird vor dir bestehen, bis du sie vertilgt hast. (Jos 1,5; Jos 10,25)25Die Bildnisse ihrer Götter sollst du mit Feuer verbrennen; und du sollst das Silber oder Gold nicht begehren, das daran ist, und es nicht an dich nehmen, damit du nicht dadurch verstrickt wirst; denn dies ist dem HERRN, deinem Gott, ein Gräuel. (5Mo 7,16; 5Mo 27,15; Jos 7,1; Jos 7,21; Ri 8,27; 1Chr 14,12; Jes 30,22)26Darum sollst du den Gräuel nicht in dein Haus bringen, dass du nicht dem gleichen Bann anheimfällst wie er; als Scheusal und als Gräuel sollst du es verabscheuen, denn es ist dem Bann verfallen! (Jos 6,18; Hes 14,7)

Du sollst keinen Bund mit ihnen schließen und keine Gnade gegen sie üben (5Mo 20,16)3und sollst dich mit ihnen nicht verschwägern; eure Töchter sollt ihr nicht geben ihren Söhnen und ihre Töchter sollt ihr nicht nehmen für eure Söhne. (2Mo 34,15)4Denn sie werden eure Söhne mir abtrünnig machen, dass sie andern Göttern dienen; so wird dann des HERRN Zorn entbrennen über euch und euch bald vertilgen.5Sondern so sollt ihr mit ihnen tun: Ihre Altäre sollt ihr einreißen, ihre Steinmale zerbrechen, ihre heiligen Pfähle abhauen und ihre Götzenbilder mit Feuer verbrennen. (5Mo 12,2)6Denn du bist ein heiliges Volk dem HERRN, deinem Gott. Dich hat der HERR, dein Gott, erwählt zum Volk des Eigentums aus allen Völkern, die auf Erden sind. (2Mo 19,5)7Nicht hat euch der HERR angenommen und euch erwählt, weil ihr größer wäret als alle Völker – denn du bist das kleinste unter allen Völkern –, (5Mo 10,15)8sondern weil er euch geliebt hat und damit er seinen Eid hielte, den er euren Vätern geschworen hat. Darum hat der HERR euch herausgeführt mit mächtiger Hand und hat dich erlöst von der Knechtschaft, aus der Hand des Pharao, des Königs von Ägypten. (Hos 11,1)9So sollst du nun wissen, dass der HERR, dein Gott, allein Gott ist, der treue Gott, der den Bund und die Barmherzigkeit bis ins tausendste Glied hält denen, die ihn lieben und seine Gebote halten, (2Mo 20,6)10und vergilt ins Angesicht denen, die ihn hassen, und bringt sie um und säumt nicht, zu vergelten ins Angesicht denen, die ihn hassen. (Nah 1,2)11So halte nun die Gebote und Gesetze und Rechte, die ich dir heute gebiete, dass du danach tust.
Verheißung des göttlichen Segens
12Und wenn ihr diese Rechte hört und sie haltet und danach tut, so wird der HERR, dein Gott, auch halten den Bund und die Barmherzigkeit, wie er deinen Vätern geschworen hat, (2Mo 23,22)13und wird dich lieben und segnen und mehren, und er wird segnen die Frucht deines Leibes und den Ertrag deines Ackers, dein Getreide, Wein und Öl, und das Jungvieh deiner Kühe und deiner Schafe in dem Lande, das er dir geben wird, wie er deinen Vätern geschworen hat. (Hos 2,7)14Gesegnet wirst du sein vor allen Völkern. Es wird niemand unter dir unfruchtbar sein, auch nicht eins deiner Tiere.15Der HERR wird von dir nehmen alle Krankheit und wird dir keine von all den bösen Seuchen der Ägypter auflegen, die du kennst, sondern wird sie allen deinen Hassern auflegen. (2Mo 9,1)16Du wirst alle Völker vertilgen, die der HERR, dein Gott, dir geben wird. Du sollst sie nicht schonen und ihren Göttern nicht dienen; denn das würde dir zum Fallstrick werden. (2Mo 23,33; 2Mo 34,12; Jos 23,13)17Wirst du aber in deinem Herzen sagen: Diese Völker sind größer als ich; wie kann ich sie vertreiben?, (4Mo 13,31; 4Mo 14,1)18so fürchte dich nicht vor ihnen. Denke daran, was der HERR, dein Gott, dem Pharao und allen Ägyptern getan hat19durch große Machtproben, die du mit eigenen Augen gesehen hast, und durch Zeichen und Wunder, durch mächtige Hand und ausgereckten Arm, womit dich der HERR, dein Gott, herausführte. So wird der HERR, dein Gott, allen Völkern tun, vor denen du dich fürchtest. (5Mo 4,34; 5Mo 29,2)20Dazu wird der HERR, dein Gott, Hornissen unter sie senden, bis umgebracht sein wird, was übrig ist und sich verbirgt vor dir.21Lass dir nicht grauen vor ihnen; denn der HERR, dein Gott, ist in deiner Mitte, der große und schreckliche Gott.22Er, der HERR, dein Gott, wird diese Völker ausrotten vor dir, einzeln nacheinander. Du kannst sie nicht auf einmal vertilgen, damit sich nicht die wilden Tiere wider dich vermehren.23Der HERR, dein Gott, wird sie vor dir dahingeben und wird eine große Verwirrung über sie bringen, bis sie vertilgt sind,24und wird ihre Könige in deine Hand geben, und du sollst ihren Namen auslöschen unter dem Himmel. Es wird dir niemand widerstehen, bis du sie vertilgt hast.25Die Bilder ihrer Götter sollst du mit Feuer verbrennen und sollst nicht begehren das Silber oder Gold, das daran ist, oder es zu dir nehmen, damit du dich nicht darin verfängst; denn das ist dem HERRN, deinem Gott, ein Gräuel.26Darum sollst du solchen Gräuel nicht in dein Haus bringen, dass du nicht dem Bann verfällst wie jener, sondern du sollst Ekel und Abscheu davor haben; denn er steht unter dem Bann. (Jos 7,11)
1Wenn der HERR, dein Gott, dich in das Land geführt hat, in das du jetzt hineinziehst, um es in Besitz zu nehmen, wenn er dir viele Völker aus dem Weg räumt - Hetiter, Girgaschiter und Amoriter, Kanaaniter und Perisiter, Hiwiter und Jebusiter, sieben Völker, die zahlreicher und mächtiger sind als du -, (2Mo 23,20; 2Mo 34,11; 5Mo 12,1; 5Mo 20,17; Jos 3,10; Jos 10,1; Jos 24,11; Ri 2,1; Apg 13,19)2wenn der HERR, dein Gott, sie dir ausliefert und du sie schlägst, dann sollst du an ihnen den Bann vollziehen. Du sollst keinen Vertrag mit ihnen schließen, sie nicht verschonen3und dich nicht mit ihnen verschwägern. Deine Tochter gib nicht seinem Sohn und nimm seine Tochter nicht für deinen Sohn! (Ri 3,5; Esr 9,1; Neh 13,25)4Wenn er dein Kind verleitet, mir nicht mehr nachzufolgen, und sie dann anderen Göttern dienen, wird der Zorn des HERRN gegen euch entbrennen und wird dich unverzüglich vernichten. (5Mo 13,3; 5Mo 28,14)5So sollt ihr gegen sie vorgehen: Ihr sollt ihre Altäre niederreißen, ihre Steinmale zerschlagen, ihre Kultpfähle umhauen und ihre Götterbilder im Feuer verbrennen. (2Mo 23,24; 2Mo 34,13; 5Mo 7,25; 5Mo 12,3; 5Mo 16,21; 2Kön 18,4; 2Kön 23,4)6Denn du bist ein Volk, das dem HERRN, deinem Gott, heilig ist. Dich hat der HERR, dein Gott, ausgewählt, damit du unter allen Völkern, die auf der Erde leben, das Volk wirst, das ihm persönlich gehört. (2Mo 19,3; 2Mo 22,30; 5Mo 4,37; 5Mo 10,15; 5Mo 14,2; 5Mo 26,18; 5Mo 28,9; Röm 9,4; Tit 2,14; 1Petr 2,9)7Nicht weil ihr zahlreicher als die anderen Völker wäret, hat euch der HERR ins Herz geschlossen und ausgewählt; ihr seid das kleinste unter allen Völkern.8Weil der HERR euch liebt und weil er auf den Schwur achtet, den er euren Vätern geleistet hat, deshalb hat der HERR euch mit starker Hand herausgeführt und dich aus dem Sklavenhaus freigekauft, aus der Hand des Pharao, des Königs von Ägypten. (1Mo 15,18; 5Mo 5,6; 5Mo 8,2; Hos 11,1)9Daran sollst du erkennen: Der HERR, dein Gott, ist der Gott; er ist der treue Gott; noch nach tausend Generationen bewahrt er den Bund und erweist denen seine Huld, die ihn lieben und seine Gebote bewahren. (5Mo 4,35; 5Mo 5,9; 5Mo 11,1; Dan 9,4; 1Kor 1,9)10Denen aber, die ihn hassen, vergilt er ins Angesicht und tilgt einen jeden aus; er zögert nicht, wenn er ihn hasst, sondern vergilt ihm ins Angesicht.11Deshalb sollst du das Gebot bewahren und die Gesetze und die Rechtsentscheide, auf die ich dich heute verpflichte, und du sollst sie halten.12Wenn ihr diese Rechtsentscheide hört, sie bewahrt und sie haltet, wird der HERR, dein Gott, dir dafür den Bund und die Huld bewahren, die er deinen Vätern geschworen hat. (5Mo 28,1; Joh 14,21; 1Joh 2,5)13Er wird dich lieben, dich segnen und dich zahlreich machen. Er wird die Frucht deines Leibes und die Frucht deines Ackers segnen, dein Korn, deinen Wein und dein Öl, den Wurf deiner Rinder und den Zuwachs an Lämmern und Zicklein, in dem Land, von dem du weißt: Er hat deinen Vätern geschworen, es dir zu geben.[1] (5Mo 28,4)14Du wirst mehr als die anderen Völker gesegnet sein. Weder Mann noch Frau noch Vieh, nichts wird bei dir unfruchtbar sein.15Alle Krankheiten wird der HERR von dir ablenken. Keine der schweren ägyptischen Seuchen, die du kennst, wird er dir auferlegen, sondern über alle deine Feinde wird er sie bringen. (2Mo 15,26; 5Mo 28,27; Mt 4,23)16Du wirst alle Völker verzehren, die der HERR, dein Gott, für dich bestimmt. Du sollst in dir kein Mitleid mit ihnen aufsteigen lassen. Und du sollst ihren Göttern nicht dienen; denn dann liefest du in eine Falle. (5Mo 19,13)17Wenn du überlegst: Diese Völker sind größer als ich - wie sollte ich sie ausrotten können?, (5Mo 1,28; 5Mo 4,38; 5Mo 9,1; 5Mo 18,12; 5Mo 20,1)18dann sollst du vor ihnen keine Furcht haben. Du sollst an das denken, was der HERR, dein Gott, mit dem Pharao und mit ganz Ägypten gemacht hat: (5Mo 29,1)19an die schweren Prüfungen, die du mit eigenen Augen gesehen hast, an die Zeichen und Wunder, an die starke Hand und den hoch erhobenen Arm, mit denen der HERR, dein Gott, dich herausgeführt hat. So wird es der HERR, dein Gott, mit allen Völkern machen, vor denen du Furcht hast. (5Mo 4,34)20Außerdem wird der HERR, dein Gott, Panik unter ihnen ausbrechen lassen, so lange, bis auch die ausgetilgt sind, die überleben konnten und sich vor dir versteckt haben. (Jos 24,12)21Du sollst nicht erschreckt zurückweichen, wenn sie angreifen; denn der HERR, dein Gott, ist als großer und Furcht erregender Gott in deiner Mitte.22Doch der HERR, dein Gott, wird diese Völker dir nur nach und nach aus dem Weg räumen. Du kannst sie nicht rasch ausmerzen, weil sonst die wilden Tiere überhandnehmen und dir schaden.23Doch wird der HERR, dein Gott, dir diese Völker ausliefern. Er wird sie in ausweglose Verwirrung stürzen, bis sie vernichtet sind.24Er wird ihre Könige in deine Hand geben. Du wirst ihren Namen unter dem Himmel austilgen. Keiner wird deinem Angriff standhalten können, bis du sie schließlich vernichtet hast.25Ihre Götterbilder sollt ihr im Feuer verbrennen. Du sollst nicht das Silber oder Gold haben wollen, mit dem sie überzogen sind. Du sollst es nicht an dich nehmen, damit du dabei nicht in eine Falle läufst. Denn es ist dem HERRN, deinem Gott, ein Gräuel. (5Mo 7,5; 5Mo 7,16; 5Mo 12,30; 5Mo 27,15; Jos 7,1)26Du sollst aber keinen Gräuel in dein Haus bringen, damit du nicht selbst wie er dem Bann verfällst. Du sollst Grauen und Abscheu vor ihm haben, denn er ist dem Bann verfallen.

He will not be slack with one who hates him. He will repay him to his face. (5Mo 10,13)12“And because you listen to these rules and keep and do them, the LORD your God will keep with you the covenant and the steadfast love that he swore to your fathers. 1When the Lord your God brings you into the land you are entering to possess and drives out before you many nations – the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites, seven nations larger and stronger than you –2and when the Lord your God has delivered them over to you and you have defeated them, then you must destroy them totally.[1] Make no treaty with them, and show them no mercy.3Do not intermarry with them. Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons,4for they will turn your children away from following me to serve other gods, and the Lord’s anger will burn against you and will quickly destroy you.5This is what you are to do to them: break down their altars, smash their sacred stones, cut down their Asherah poles[2] and burn their idols in the fire.6For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession.7The Lord did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples.8But it was because the Lord loved you and kept the oath he swore to your ancestors that he brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt.9Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.10But those who hate him he will repay to their face by destruction; he will not be slow to repay to their face those who hate him.11Therefore, take care to follow the commands, decrees and laws I give you today.12If you pay attention to these laws and are careful to follow them, then the Lord your God will keep his covenant of love with you, as he swore to your ancestors.13He will love you and bless you and increase your numbers. He will bless the fruit of your womb, the crops of your land – your corn, new wine and oil – the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks in the land that he swore to your ancestors to give you.14You will be blessed more than any other people; none of your men or women will be childless, nor any of your livestock without young.15The Lord will keep you free from every disease. He will not inflict on you the horrible diseases you knew in Egypt, but he will inflict them on all who hate you.16You must destroy all the peoples the Lord your God gives over to you. Do not look on them with pity and do not serve their gods, for that will be a snare to you.17You may say to yourselves, ‘These nations are stronger than we are. How can we drive them out?’18But do not be afraid of them; remember well what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt.19You saw with your own eyes the great trials, the signs and wonders, the mighty hand and outstretched arm, with which the Lord your God brought you out. The Lord your God will do the same to all the peoples you now fear.20Moreover, the Lord your God will send the hornet among them until even the survivors who hide from you have perished.21Do not be terrified by them, for the Lord your God, who is among you, is a great and awesome God.22The Lord your God will drive out those nations before you, little by little.
