Nehemia sorgt für die Absonderung von den Heiden und beseitigt Missstände

1 Zu jener Zeit wurde vor den Ohren des Volkes im Buch Moses gelesen und darin geschrieben gefunden, dass kein Ammoniter und Moabiter in die Gemeinde Gottes kommen sollte ewiglich, (5Mo 23,3; 5Mo 31,11; 2Kön 23,2; Neh 8,2; Neh 8,8; Ps 1,2; Jes 34,16; Lk 4,16; Apg 13,15; Apg 17,1; Kol 3,16)

2 weil sie den Kindern Israels nicht mit Brot und Wasser entgegengekommen waren, sondern den Bileam gegen sie anwarben, damit er sie verfluche; aber unser Gott verwandelte den Fluch in Segen. (4Mo 6,22; 4Mo 22,1; 5Mo 23,5) 3 Und es geschah, als sie nun das Gesetz hörten, da sonderten sie alles Mischvolk von Israel ab. 5 diesem eine große Kammer eingeräumt, wohin man zuvor die Speisopfer, den Weihrauch und die Geräte gelegt hatte, dazu die Zehnten vom Korn, Most und Öl, die Gebühr der Leviten, der Sänger und der Torhüter, dazu die Hebopfer der Priester. (2Chr 31,11; Neh 12,44) 6 Während aber dies geschah, war ich nicht in Jerusalem. Denn im zweiunddreißigsten Jahr Artasastas, des Königs von Babel, war ich zum König zurückgegangen; aber nach einiger Zeit erbat ich mir wieder Urlaub vom König. (Neh 5,14) 7 Und als ich nach Jerusalem kam, erfuhr ich von dem Bösen, das Eljaschib dem Tobija zuliebe getan hatte, indem er ihm eine Kammer in den Vorhöfen des Hauses Gottes eingeräumt hatte. 8 Und dies missfiel mir sehr; und ich warf alle Hausgeräte Tobijas vor die Kammer hinaus (Mt 21,12) 9 und befahl, die Kammern zu reinigen; dann brachte ich die Geräte des Hauses Gottes, das Speisopfer und den Weihrauch wieder dorthin. (2Chr 29,15) 10 Ich erfuhr auch, dass man den Leviten ihre Anteile nicht gegeben hatte, sodass die Leviten und Sänger, die sonst den Dienst verrichteten, geflohen waren, ein jeder zu seinem Acker. 11 Da stritt ich mit den Vorstehern und sprach: Warum ist das Haus Gottes im Stich gelassen worden? Und ich versammelte jene [wieder] und stellte sie an ihre Posten. (Neh 10,36; Neh 13,17; Neh 13,25; Spr 27,5; Spr 28,4)

13 Und ich setzte Schelemja, den Priester, und Zadok, den Schreiber, und Pedaja von den Leviten als Verwalter über die Vorräte ein, und ich gab ihnen Hanan zur Seite, den Sohn Sakkurs, des Sohnes Mattanjas; denn sie wurden für treu erachtet, und sie hatten die Aufgabe, die Verteilung an ihre Brüder zu besorgen. 15 Zu jener Zeit sah ich, dass etliche in Juda am Sabbat die Kelter traten und Garben einbrachten und Esel beluden, auch Wein, Trauben, Feigen und allerlei Lasten aufluden und dies am Sabbat nach Jerusalem brachten. Da verwarnte ich sie an dem Tag, da sie die Lebensmittel verkauften. (2Mo 31,12; Neh 10,30; Neh 13,21; Jes 58,13; Hes 3,17; Hes 20,13; Hes 33,3)

16 Es wohnten auch Tyrer in [der Stadt], die brachten Fische und allerlei Ware und verkauften sie am Sabbat den Kindern Judas und in Jerusalem. (2Mo 23,12; 5Mo 5,14) 17 Da stritt ich mit den Vornehmsten von Juda und sprach zu ihnen: Was ist das für eine schlimme Sache, die ihr tut, dass ihr den Sabbat entheiligt? (Neh 13,11; Mi 3,1; Mi 3,9) 18 Machten es nicht eure Väter so, und brachte unser Gott [nicht darum] all dies Unglück über uns und über diese Stadt? 19 Und es geschah, sobald es dunkel wurde in den Toren Jerusalems vor dem Sabbat, da befahl ich, die Tore zu schließen; und ich befahl, man solle sie nicht öffnen bis nach dem Sabbat; und ich stellte einige meiner Diener an den Toren auf, damit man am Sabbattag keine Last hereinbringe. 20 Nun blieben die Krämer und Verkäufer von allerlei Ware über Nacht draußen vor Jerusalem, ein- und zweimal. (Neh 13,16) 21 Da verwarnte ich sie und sprach: Warum bleibt ihr über Nacht vor der Mauer? Wenn ihr es noch einmal tut, werde ich Hand an euch legen! Von der Zeit an kamen sie am Sabbat nicht mehr. (Neh 13,15; Mt 21,12) 22 Und ich befahl den Leviten, sich zu reinigen und zu kommen und die Tore zu hüten, damit der Sabbattag geheiligt werde. — Mein Gott, gedenke mir auch dessen, und verschone mich nach deiner großen Gnade! 23 Auch sah ich zu jener Zeit Juden, die Frauen von Asdod, Ammon und Moab heimgeführt hatten. (Esr 9,1; Neh 10,30; Neh 13,1) 24 Darum redeten auch ihre Kinder halb asdoditisch und konnten nicht Jüdisch reden, sondern die Sprache dieses oder jenes Volkes. (1Sam 5,1) 25 Und ich stritt mit ihnen und fluchte ihnen und schlug etliche Männer von ihnen und raufte ihnen das Haar und beschwor sie bei Gott und sprach: Ihr sollt eure Töchter nicht ihren Söhnen zur Frau geben, noch welche von ihren Töchtern für eure Söhne oder für euch selbst zur Frau nehmen! (Neh 13,11; Neh 13,17) 26 Hat sich nicht Salomo, der König von Israel, damit versündigt? Ihm war doch unter den vielen Völkern kein König gleich, und er war von seinem Gott geliebt, und Gott setzte ihn zum König über ganz Israel; gleichwohl verführten ihn die fremden Frauen zur Sünde! 27 Und nun muss man von euch hören, dass ihr dieses ganz große Unrecht tut und euch so an unserem Gott versündigt, dass ihr fremde Frauen heimführt? (Esr 10,2) 28 Und einer von den Söhnen Jojadas, des Sohnes Eljaschibs, des Hohenpriesters, hatte sich mit Sanballat, dem Horoniter, verschwägert; den jagte ich von mir weg. 30 So reinigte ich sie von allem Fremden und setzte die Dienste der Priester und Leviten ein und wies jedem seine Arbeit an (1Chr 23,1; Neh 10,30; Neh 12,1) 31 und sorgte für die rechtzeitige Lieferung des Holzes und der Erstlinge. — Gedenke mir dessen, mein Gott, zum Guten! 1 On that day they read in the book of Moses in the audience of the people; and therein was found written, that the Ammonite and the Moabite should not come into the congregation of God for ever; 2 Because they met not the children of Israel with bread and with water, but hired Balaam against them, that he should curse them: howbeit our God turned the curse into a blessing. 3 Now it came to pass, when they had heard the law, that they separated from Israel all the mixed multitude. 4 And before this, Eliashib the priest, having the oversight of the chamber of the house of our God, was allied unto Tobiah: 5 And he had prepared for him a great chamber, where aforetime they laid the meat offerings, the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithes of the corn, the new wine, and the oil, which was commanded to be given to the Levites, and the singers, and the porters; and the offerings of the priests. 6 But in all this time was not I at Jerusalem: for in the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes king of Babylon came I unto the king, and after certain days obtained I leave of the king: 7 And I came to Jerusalem, and understood of the evil that Eliashib did for Tobiah, in preparing him a chamber in the courts of the house of God. 8 And it grieved me sore: therefore I cast forth all the household stuff of Tobiah out of the chamber. 9 Then I commanded, and they cleansed the chambers: and thither brought I again the vessels of the house of God, with the meat offering and the frankincense. 10 And I perceived that the portions of the Levites had not been given them : for the Levites and the singers, that did the work, were fled every one to his field. 11 Then contended I with the rulers, and said, Why is the house of God forsaken? And I gathered them together, and set them in their place. 12 Then brought all Judah the tithe of the corn and the new wine and the oil unto the treasuries. 13 And I made treasurers over the treasuries, Shelemiah the priest, and Zadok the scribe, and of the Levites, Pedaiah: and next to them was Hanan the son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah: for they were counted faithful, and their office was to distribute unto their brethren. 14 Remember me, O my God, concerning this, and wipe not out my good deeds that I have done for the house of my God, and for the offices thereof. 15 In those days saw I in Judah some treading wine presses on the sabbath, and bringing in sheaves, and lading asses; as also wine, grapes, and figs, and all manner of burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem on the sabbath day: and I testified against them in the day wherein they sold victuals. 16 There dwelt men of Tyre also therein, which brought fish, and all manner of ware, and sold on the sabbath unto the children of Judah, and in Jerusalem. 17 Then I contended with the nobles of Judah, and said unto them, What evil thing is this that ye do, and profane the sabbath day? 18 Did not your fathers thus, and did not our God bring all this evil upon us, and upon this city? yet ye bring more wrath upon Israel by profaning the sabbath. 19 And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut, and charged that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and some of my servants set I at the gates, that there should no burden be brought in on the sabbath day. 20 So the merchants and sellers of all kind of ware lodged without Jerusalem once or twice. 21 Then I testified against them, and said unto them, Why lodge ye about the wall? if ye do so again, I will lay hands on you. From that time forth came they no more on the sabbath. 22 And I commanded the Levites that they should cleanse themselves, and that they should come and keep the gates, to sanctify the sabbath day. Remember me, O my God, concerning this also, and spare me according to the greatness of thy mercy. 23 In those days also saw I Jews that had married wives of Ashdod, of Ammon, and of Moab: 24 And their children spake half in the speech of Ashdod, and could not speak in the Jews'language, but according to the language of each people. 25 And I contended with them, and cursed them, and smote certain of them, and plucked off their hair, and made them swear by God, saying , Ye shall not give your daughters unto their sons, nor take their daughters unto your sons, or for yourselves. 26 Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? yet among many nations was there no king like him, who was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel: nevertheless even him did outlandish women cause to sin. 27 Shall we then hearken unto you to do all this great evil, to transgress against our God in marrying strange wives? 28 And one of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib the high priest, was son in law to Sanballat the Horonite: therefore I chased him from me. 29 Remember them, O my God, because they have defiled the priesthood, and the covenant of the priesthood, and of the Levites. 30 Thus cleansed I them from all strangers, and appointed the wards of the priests and the Levites, every one in his business; 31 And for the wood offering, at times appointed, and for the firstfruits.
