Das Volk Israel betreibt Götzendienst. Pinehas eifert für Gott

1 Und Israel ließ sich in Sittim nieder; und das Volk fing an, Unzucht zu treiben mit den Töchtern der Moabiter, (4Mo 31,16; 4Mo 33,49; Jos 2,1; Mi 6,5; 1Kor 10,8)

2 und diese luden das Volk zu den Opfern ihrer Götter ein. Und das Volk aß [mit ihnen] und betete ihre Götter an. (2Mo 23,24; 2Mo 34,15; 1Kor 10,20) 3 Und Israel begab sich unter das Joch des Baal-Peor. Da entbrannte der Zorn des HERRN über Israel. (5Mo 4,3; Jos 22,17; Ps 106,28; Hos 9,10)

4 Und der HERR sprach zu Mose: Nimm alle Obersten des Volkes und hänge sie auf für den HERRN angesichts der Sonne, damit der brennende Zorn des HERRN von Israel abgewandt wird! (5Mo 13,6) 5 Und Mose sprach zu den Richtern Israels: Jedermann töte seine Leute, die sich unter das Joch des Baal-Peor begeben haben! (2Mo 2,14; 2Mo 32,27; 5Mo 4,3; 5Mo 19,18)

6 Und siehe, ein Mann aus den Kindern Israels kam und brachte eine Midianiterin zu seinen Brüdern, vor den Augen Moses und vor den Augen der ganzen Gemeinde der Kinder Israels, während sie weinten vor dem Eingang der Stiftshütte. (Esr 9,1; Joe 2,17) 7 Als Pinehas, der Sohn Eleasars, des Sohnes Aarons, des Priesters, dies sah, stand er aus der Mitte der Gemeinde auf und nahm einen Speer in seine Hand; (2Mo 6,25) 8 und er ging dem israelitischen Mann nach, hinein in das Innere des Zeltes, und durchbohrte sie beide durch den Unterleib, den israelitischen Mann und die Frau. Da wurde die Plage von den Kindern Israels abgewehrt. (Ps 69,10; Ps 106,29) 9 Die [Zahl derer] aber, die an dieser Plage starben, war 24 000. (Jos 22,17; 1Kor 10,8; Hebr 12,29) 10 Und der HERR redete zu Mose und sprach: 11 Pinehas, der Sohn Eleasars, des Sohnes Aarons, des Priesters, hat dadurch, dass er mit meinem Eifer unter ihnen eiferte, meinen Grimm von den Kindern Israels abgewandt, sodass ich die Kinder Israels nicht vertilgt habe in meinem Eifer. (2Mo 32,10; 5Mo 4,23; Jos 23,16) 12 Darum sprich zu ihm: Siehe, ich gewähre ihm meinen Bund des Friedens, (Mal 2,4) 13 und es soll ihm und seinem Samen nach ihm der Bund eines ewigen Priestertums zufallen dafür, dass er für seinen Gott geeifert hat und so Sühnung erwirkt hat für die Kinder Israels! 14 Der Name des getöteten israelitischen Mannes aber, der samt der Midianiterin erschlagen wurde, war Simri — ein Sohn Salus, ein Fürst des Vaterhauses der Simeoniter. (4Mo 1,22; 4Mo 25,4; 4Mo 26,14; 2Chr 19,7)

15 Der Name der getöteten midianitischen Frau aber war Kosbi — eine Tochter Zurs, der das Stammesoberhaupt eines Vaterhauses unter den Midianitern war. (4Mo 31,8; Jos 13,21) 16 Und der HERR redete zu Mose und sprach: 17 Bekämpft die Midianiter und schlagt sie! (5Mo 13,9) 18 Denn sie sind es, die euch bekämpft haben mit ihrer List, mit der sie euch überlistet haben in der Sache des Peor und in der Sache ihrer Schwester Kosbi, der midianitischen Fürstentochter, die erschlagen wurde an dem Tag der Plage, die wegen der Sache des Peor entstanden war. 1 And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab. 2 And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods. 3 And Israel joined himself unto Baalpeor: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel. 4 And the LORD said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the LORD against the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may be turned away from Israel. 5 And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto Baalpeor. 6 And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. 7 And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it , he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand; 8 And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel. 9 And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand. 10 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 11 Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy. 12 Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace: 13 And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel. 14 Now the name of the Israelite that was slain, even that was slain with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a chief house among the Simeonites. 15 And the name of the Midianitish woman that was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur; he was head over a people, and of a chief house in Midian. 16 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 17 Vex the Midianites, and smite them: 18 For they vex you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a prince of Midian, their sister, which was slain in the day of the plague for Peor' sake.
