Der Engel des Herrn tadelt Israels Ungehorsam

1 Und der Engel des HERRN kam von Gilgal herauf nach Bochim und sprach: Ich habe euch aus Ägypten heraufgeführt und euch in das Land gebracht, das ich euren Vätern zugeschworen habe; und ich sagte: Ich will meinen Bund mit euch nicht aufheben ewiglich! 2 Ihr aber sollt mit den Einwohnern dieses Landes keinen Bund machen, sondern ihre Altäre niederreißen. Aber ihr habt meiner Stimme nicht gehorcht! Warum habt ihr das getan? (2Mo 34,12; 5Mo 7,2; Ri 2,20; Ps 106,34)

4 Als nun der Engel des HERRN diese Worte zu allen Kindern Israels redete, da erhob das Volk seine Stimme und weinte. (Esr 10,1; Spr 15,31; Spr 27,5; 2Kor 7,10)

5 Daher nannten sie den Ort Bochim; und sie brachten dort dem HERRN Opfer dar. (1Mo 35,8; Ri 6,24; 1Sam 7,9)

Ungehorsam und Niederlagen der neuen Generation. Die Richter

6 Als nämlich Josua das Volk entlassen hatte, zogen die Kinder Israels jeder in sein Erbteil, um das Land in Besitz zu nehmen. (Jos 22,6) 7 Und das Volk diente dem HERRN, solange Josua lebte und solange die Ältesten da waren, die Josua überlebten, welche alle die großen Werke des HERRN gesehen hatten, die er an Israel getan hatte. (Jos 24,16; Jos 24,31) 8 Als aber Josua, der Sohn Nuns, der Knecht des HERRN, im Alter von 110 Jahren gestorben war, (Jos 24,29) 9 da begruben sie ihn im Gebiet seines Erbteils, in Timnat-Heres, auf dem Bergland Ephraim, nördlich vom Berg Gaasch. (Jos 24,30) 10 Und als auch jene ganze Generation zu ihren Vätern versammelt war, kam eine andere Generation nach ihnen auf, die den HERRN nicht kannte, noch die Werke, die er an Israel getan hatte. 12 und sie verließen den HERRN, den Gott ihrer Väter, der sie aus dem Land Ägypten herausgeführt hatte, und folgten anderen Göttern nach, von den Göttern der Völker, die um sie her wohnten, und beteten sie an und erzürnten den HERRN; (5Mo 6,12; 5Mo 6,15; 5Mo 31,16) 13 denn sie verließen den HERRN und dienten dem Baal und den Astarten. 15 Überall, wohin sie zogen, war die Hand des HERRN gegen sie zum Unheil, wie der HERR es ihnen gesagt und wie der HERR es ihnen geschworen hatte; so wurden sie hart bedrängt. 17 Aber auch ihren Richtern gehorchten sie nicht, sondern sie hurten mit anderen Göttern und beteten sie an und wichen bald ab von dem Weg, auf dem ihre Väter im Gehorsam gegen die Gebote des HERRN gegangen waren; sie handelten nicht ebenso. 18 Wenn aber der HERR ihnen Richter erweckte, so war der HERR mit dem Richter und errettete sie aus der Hand ihrer Feinde, solange der Richter lebte; denn der HERR hatte Mitleid wegen ihrer Wehklage über ihre Bedränger und Unterdrücker. (2Mo 2,24; 5Mo 30,3; Jos 1,5; Ps 103,13; Hos 11,8)

19 Wenn aber der Richter starb, so handelten sie wiederum verderblich, mehr als ihre Väter, indem sie anderen Göttern nachfolgten, um ihnen zu dienen und sie anzubeten; sie ließen nicht ab von ihrem Treiben und ihrem halsstarrigen Wandel. (Ri 3,12; Ri 4,1; Ri 8,33; Jer 16,12; Apg 7,51)

20 Darum entbrannte der Zorn des HERRN über Israel, und er sprach: Weil dieses Volk meinen Bund übertreten hat, den ich ihren Vätern geboten habe, und sie meiner Stimme nicht folgen, (Jos 23,16; Ri 2,14; Ps 78,10) 21 so will auch ich in Zukunft niemand mehr von den Völkern, die Josua bei seinem Tod übrig gelassen hat, vor ihnen vertreiben, (Jos 23,13) 22 damit ich Israel durch sie prüfe, ob sie den Weg des HERRN bewahren und darin wandeln werden, wie ihre Väter ihn bewahrten, oder nicht! 23 So ließ der HERR diese Völker verbleiben und vertrieb sie nicht schnell aus ihrem Besitz, wie er sie auch nicht in die Hand Josuas gegeben hatte. (Ri 2,3)

Israel’s Disobedience

1 Now the angel of the Lord went up from Gilgal to Bochim. And he said, “I brought you up from Egypt and brought you into the land that I swore to give to your fathers. I said, ‘I will never break my covenant with you, (1Mo 17,7; 2Mo 6,4; 5Mo 31,16; Ri 2,5)

2 and you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall break down their altars.’ But you have not obeyed my voice. What is this you have done? (5Mo 7,2; 5Mo 12,3) 3 So now I say, I will not drive them out before you, but they shall become thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare to you.” (4Mo 33,55; Jos 23,13; Ri 2,21) 4 As soon as the angel of the Lord spoke these words to all the people of Israel, the people lifted up their voices and wept. 5 And they called the name of that place Bochim.^[1] And they sacrificed there to the Lord.

The Death of Joshua

6 When Joshua dismissed the people, the people of Israel went each to his inheritance to take possession of the land. 7 And the people served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great work that the Lord had done for Israel. (Jos 24,29) 8 And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died at the age of 110 years. 9 And they buried him within the boundaries of his inheritance in Timnath-heres, in the hill country of Ephraim, north of the mountain of Gaash. (Jos 19,50; Jos 24,33) 10 And all that generation also were gathered to their fathers. And there arose another generation after them who did not know the Lord or the work that he had done for Israel.

Israel’s Unfaithfulness

11 And the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and served the Baals. (Ri 3,7; Ri 4,1; Ri 6,1; Ri 10,6; Ri 13,1)

12 And they abandoned the Lord, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt. They went after other gods, from among the gods of the peoples who were around them, and bowed down to them. And they provoked the Lord to anger. 14 So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he gave them over to plunderers, who plundered them. 15 Whenever they marched out, the hand of the Lord was against them for harm, as the Lord had warned, and as the Lord had sworn to them. And they were in terrible distress. (3Mo 26,14; 5Mo 28,15)

The Lord Raises Up Judges

16 Then the Lord raised up judges, who saved them out of the hand of those who plundered them. (Ri 3,9; Ri 3,15; Ri 3,31; Ri 10,1; Ri 10,12; Ri 12,2; Ri 13,5; 1Sam 12,11; Neh 9,27; Apg 13,20)

17 Yet they did not listen to their judges, for they whored after other gods and bowed down to them. They soon turned aside from the way in which their fathers had walked, who had obeyed the commandments of the Lord, and they did not do so. (2Mo 34,15; 5Mo 9,12; Ri 8,33) 18 Whenever the Lord raised up judges for them, the Lord was with the judge, and he saved them from the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge. 19 But whenever the judge died, they turned back and were more corrupt than their fathers, going after other gods, serving them and bowing down to them. They did not drop any of their practices or their stubborn ways. (Ri 3,12; Ri 4,1; Ri 6,1; Ri 8,33)

20 So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he said, “Because this people have transgressed my covenant that I commanded their fathers and have not obeyed my voice, (5Mo 17,2; Jos 23,16; Ri 2,14) 21 I will no longer drive out before them any of the nations that Joshua left when he died, (Jos 23,13; Ri 2,3) 22 in order to test Israel by them, whether they will take care to walk in the way of the Lord as their fathers did, or not.” (2Mo 15,25; 5Mo 8,2; 5Mo 8,16; 5Mo 13,3; Ri 3,1; Ri 3,4)

23 So the Lord left those nations, not driving them out quickly, and he did not give them into the hand of Joshua.
