3 Und man nannte den Ort Tabeera, weil das Feuer des HERRN unter ihnen gebrannt hatte. (5Mo 9,22) 4 Das hergelaufene Gesindel aber, das in ihrer Mitte war, wurde sehr lüstern, und auch die Kinder Israels fingen wieder an zu weinen, und sie sprachen: Wer wird uns Fleisch zu essen geben? 5 Wir denken an die Fische zurück, die wir in Ägypten umsonst aßen, und an die Gurken und Melonen, den Lauch, die Zwiebeln und den Knoblauch; (2Mo 16,3; 2Petr 2,12; 2Petr 2,20) 6 nun aber ist unsere Seele matt, unsere Augen sehen nichts als das Manna! (Joh 6,31; Joh 6,50) 10 Als nun Mose das Volk weinen hörte, in jeder Familie jeden am Eingang seines Zeltes, da entbrannte der Zorn des HERRN sehr, und es missfiel auch Mose. (4Mo 11,1; Hebr 3,10) 11 Und Mose sprach zu dem HERRN: Warum handelst du so übel an deinem Knecht? 12 Habe ich denn dieses ganze Volk empfangen oder geboren, dass du zu mir sagst: Trag es an deiner Brust, wie die Amme einen Säugling trägt, in das Land, das du ihren Vätern zugeschworen hast? (2Mo 6,8; 5Mo 1,31; 1Thess 2,7) 13 Woher soll ich Fleisch nehmen, um es diesem ganzen Volk zu geben? Denn sie jammern vor mir und sprechen: Gib uns Fleisch zu essen! Gott beruft 70 Älteste

16 Da sprach der HERR zu Mose: Versammle mir 70 Männer aus den Ältesten Israels, von denen du weißt, dass sie die Ältesten des Volkes und seine Vorsteher sind, und führe sie vor die Stiftshütte, dass sie dort bei dir stehen. (2Mo 24,1; 2Mo 24,9) 17 Und ich will herabkommen und dort mit dir reden; und ich werde von dem Geist nehmen, der auf dir ist, und auf sie legen, dass sie mit dir an der Last des Volkes tragen und du sie nicht allein tragen musst. 18 Und du sollst zum Volk sagen: Heiligt euch für morgen, und ihr werdet Fleisch essen; denn ihr habt vor den Ohren des HERRN geweint und gesagt: »Wer gibt uns Fleisch zu essen? 24 Da ging Mose hinaus und redete zu dem Volk die Worte des HERRN; und er versammelte 70 Männer aus den Ältesten des Volkes und stellte sie um die Stiftshütte her. 26 Und im Lager waren noch zwei Männer geblieben; der eine hieß Eldad, der andere Medad, und der Geist ruhte auch auf ihnen. Denn sie waren [als Älteste] verzeichnet und doch nicht hinausgegangen zur Stiftshütte; sondern sie weissagten im Lager. 27 Da lief ein Knabe hin und sagte es Mose und sprach: Eldad und Medad weissagen im Lager! 28 Da ergriff Josua, der Sohn Nuns, der Moses Diener war von seiner Jugend an, das Wort und sprach: Mose, mein Herr, wehre ihnen! 30 Hierauf begab sich Mose ins Lager zurück, er und die Ältesten Israels.

Die Wachteln und die Plage bei den »Lustgräbern«

31 Da fuhr ein Wind aus von dem HERRN und trieb Wachteln vom Meer her und streute sie über das Lager, eine Tagereise weit hier und eine Tagereise weit dort, um das Lager her, etwa zwei Ellen hoch über der Erdoberfläche. (2Mo 16,13; Ps 78,26; Ps 105,40) 32 Da machte sich das Volk auf an diesem ganzen Tag und die ganze Nacht und an dem ganzen folgenden Tag, und sie sammelten die Wachteln; und wer am wenigsten sammelte, der sammelte 10 Homer, und sie breiteten sie weithin aus um das Lager her. (Hes 45,11) 33 Als aber das Fleisch noch zwischen ihren Zähnen und noch nicht verzehrt war, da entbrannte der Zorn des HERRN über das Volk, und der HERR schlug sie mit einer sehr großen Plage. The People Complain

1 And the people complained in the hearing of the Lord about their misfortunes, and when the Lord heard it, his anger was kindled, and the fire of the Lord burned among them and consumed some outlying parts of the camp. (3Mo 10,2; 4Mo 16,35; 5Mo 9,22; 2Kön 1,12; Ps 78,21; Ps 106,18; Offb 13,13)

2 Then the people cried out to Moses, and Moses prayed to the Lord, and the fire died down. 18 And say to the people, ‘Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow, and you shall eat meat, for you have wept in the hearing of the Lord, saying, “Who will give us meat to eat? For it was better for us in Egypt.” Therefore the Lord will give you meat, and you shall eat. 24 So Moses went out and told the people the words of the Lord. And he gathered seventy men of the elders of the people and placed them around the tent. (4Mo 11,16) 25 Then the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke to him, and took some of the Spirit that was on him and put it on the seventy elders. And as soon as the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied. But they did not continue doing it. (4Mo 11,17) 26 Now two men remained in the camp, one named Eldad, and the other named Medad, and the Spirit rested on them. They were among those registered, but they had not gone out to the tent, and so they prophesied in the camp. 29 But Moses said to him, “Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the Lord’s people were prophets, that the Lord would put his Spirit on them!” (1Kor 14,5) 30 And Moses and the elders of Israel returned to the camp.

Quail and a Plague

31 Then a wind from the Lord sprang up, and it brought quail from the sea and let them fall beside the camp, about a day’s journey on this side and a day’s journey on the other side, around the camp, and about two cubits^[2] above the ground. (2Mo 16,13; Ps 78,26; Ps 105,40) 32 And the people rose all that day and all night and all the next day, and gathered the quail. Those who gathered least gathered ten homers.^[3] And they spread them out for themselves all around the camp. (2Mo 16,36; Hes 45,11) 33 While the meat was yet between their teeth, before it was consumed, the anger of the Lord was kindled against the people, and the Lord struck down the people with a very great plague. (4Mo 16,49; Ps 78,30) 34 Therefore the name of that place was called Kibroth-hattaavah,^[4] because there they buried the people who had the craving. (5Mo 9,22) 35 From Kibroth-hattaavah the people journeyed to Hazeroth, and they remained at Hazeroth. (4Mo 12,16; 4Mo 33,17)
