1Damals sprach Salomo: Der HERR hat gesagt, er wolle im Dunkeln wohnen. (1Kön 8,12; Ps 18,9; Ps 97,2; Hebr 12,18)2Ich aber habe dir ein Haus gebaut, als Wohnung für dich, und eine Stätte, dass du ewiglich dort bleiben mögest. (Ps 132,5; Ps 132,13; Offb 21,3)3Und der König wandte sein Angesicht und segnete die ganze Gemeinde Israels; denn die ganze Gemeinde Israels stand da. (2Sam 6,18; 1Kön 8,14; Lk 24,50)4Und er sprach: Gepriesen sei der HERR, der Gott Israels, der zu meinem Vater David durch seinen Mund geredet und es auch durch seine Hand erfüllt hat, indem er sagte: (Ps 30,5; Ps 33,9; Ps 118,28; Hes 22,14; Hes 36,36; Mt 24,35; Lk 1,68; Lk 1,69; Eph 1,3)5»Seit dem Tag, als ich mein Volk aus dem Land Ägypten führte, habe ich unter allen Stämmen Israels niemals eine Stadt erwählt, dass mir [dort] ein Haus gebaut würde, damit mein Name dort sei, und habe auch keinen Mann erwählt, dass er über mein Volk Israel Fürst sei. (2Mo 20,24; 1Sam 10,24; 1Sam 11,14; 2Sam 7,6)6Aber Jerusalem habe ich erwählt, dass mein Name dort sei; und David habe ich erwählt, dass er über mein Volk Israel sei.« (5Mo 12,5; 5Mo 12,11; 1Sam 16,12; 2Sam 5,1; 2Chr 12,13; Ps 48,2; Ps 78,68)7Nun lag es zwar meinem Vater David am Herzen, dem Namen des HERRN, des Gottes Israels, ein Haus zu bauen. (2Sam 7,2; 1Kön 5,3; 1Chr 17,1; 1Chr 22,7; 1Chr 28,2)8Aber der HERR sprach zu meinem Vater David: »Dass es dir am Herzen lag, meinem Namen ein Haus zu bauen — dass dies dir am Herzen lag, daran hast du wohlgetan; (1Kön 8,18; Ps 51,20; Mt 5,44; Hebr 13,16)9doch sollst nicht du das Haus bauen, sondern dein Sohn, der aus deinen Lenden hervorgehen wird, der soll meinem Namen das Haus bauen!« (2Sam 7,12)10Und der HERR hat sein Wort erfüllt, das er geredet hat; denn ich bin an die Stelle meines Vaters David getreten und sitze auf dem Thron Israels, wie der HERR geredet hat, und ich habe dem Namen des HERRN, des Gottes Israels, ein Haus gebaut, (1Chr 17,11; 1Chr 28,5; 2Chr 1,1; 2Chr 6,4)11und ich habe dort hinein die Lade gestellt, in welcher der Bund des HERRN ist, den er mit den Kindern Israels gemacht hat. (2Mo 40,20; 2Chr 2,2; 2Chr 5,7; 2Chr 5,10; Hebr 9,4)
Salomos Gebet bei der Tempeleinweihung
12Und er trat vor den Altar des HERRN angesichts der ganzen Gemeinde Israels und breitete seine Hände aus. (1Kön 8,22; 1Kön 8,38; 1Kön 8,54; 2Chr 6,13; Esr 9,5)13Denn Salomo hatte ein ehernes Podium machen und mitten in den Hof stellen lassen, 5 Ellen lang und 5 Ellen breit und 3 Ellen hoch; darauf trat er und fiel auf seine Knie nieder angesichts der ganzen Gemeinde Israels; und er breitete seine Hände zum Himmel aus (Esr 9,5; Neh 8,4; Ps 95,6; Eph 3,14)14und sprach: O HERR, du Gott Israels! Es gibt keinen Gott, der dir gleich wäre, weder im Himmel noch auf Erden, der du den Bund und die Gnade bewahrst deinen Knechten, die mit ihrem ganzen Herzen vor dir wandeln; (1Mo 5,24; 1Mo 17,1; 5Mo 4,39; 1Kön 8,23; Ps 86,8; Ps 86,10; Lk 1,6; 1Thess 2,12)15der du deinem Knecht David, meinem Vater, gehalten hast, was du ihm verheißen hattest; du hast es mit deinem Mund geredet, und mit deiner Hand hast du es erfüllt, wie es heute der Fall ist. (2Sam 7,12; 1Chr 22,9; 2Chr 6,4)16Und nun, o HERR, du Gott Israels, halte doch deinem Knecht David, meinem Vater, was du ihm versprochen hast, als du sagtest: »Es soll dir nicht fehlen an einem Mann vor meinem Angesicht, der auf dem Thron Israels sitzt, wenn nur deine Söhne ihren Weg bewahren, dass sie in meinem Gesetz wandeln, wie du vor mir gewandelt bist!« (1Kön 8,25; 2Chr 7,17)17Und nun, HERR, du Gott Israels, lass doch dein Wort wahr werden, das du zu deinem Knecht David geredet hast! (2Mo 24,10; 2Chr 6,4; 2Chr 6,14; Jes 41,17)18Aber wohnt Gott wirklich bei den Menschen auf der Erde? Siehe, die Himmel und aller Himmel Himmel können dich nicht fassen; wie sollte es denn dieses Haus tun, das ich gebaut habe! (2Mo 29,45; Joh 1,14; Offb 21,3; Offb 22,14)19Wende dich aber zu dem Gebet deines Knechtes und zu seinem Flehen, o HERR, mein Gott, dass du hörst auf das Rufen und das Gebet, welches dein Knecht vor dich bringt! (1Kön 8,28; Ps 20,2; Ps 130,2; Dan 9,17; Joh 17,20)20Lass deine Augen Tag und Nacht offen stehen über diesem Haus, über dem Ort, von dem du gesagt hast, dass du deinen Namen dahin setzen willst, dass du das Gebet erhörst, das dein Knecht zu dieser Stätte gerichtet betet. (2Chr 6,40; 2Chr 7,16; Ps 34,16; Ps 121,4; Ps 139,12)21So höre doch das Flehen deines Knechtes und deines Volkes Israel, das sie zu diesem Ort hin richten werden! Höre du es an dem Ort deiner Wohnung, im Himmel, und wenn du es hörst, so vergib! (1Kön 8,30; 1Kön 8,32; 1Kön 8,34; 2Chr 6,39; 2Chr 30,27; Ps 85,2; Jes 43,25; Mi 7,18; Mt 6,12)22Wenn jemand gegen seinen Nächsten sündigt und man erlegt ihm einen Eid auf, den er schwören soll, und er kommt und schwört vor deinem Altar in diesem Haus, (2Mo 22,11; 1Kön 8,31; Mt 5,33)23so höre du es vom Himmel her und greife ein und schaffe deinen Knechten Recht, indem du dem Schuldigen vergiltst und sein Tun auf sein Haupt zurückfallen lässt, den Gerechten aber rechtfertigst und ihm nach seiner Gerechtigkeit vergiltst. (Ps 10,15; Ps 62,13; Ob 1,15)24Und wenn dein Volk Israel vor dem Feind geschlagen wird, weil sie gegen dich gesündigt haben, und sie kehren wieder um und bekennen deinen Namen und beten und flehen zu dir in diesem Haus, (5Mo 28,45; 1Sam 12,9)25so höre du es vom Himmel her und vergib die Sünde deines Volkes Israel, und bringe sie wieder in das Land, das du ihnen und ihren Vätern gegeben hast! (1Mo 13,15; 2Mo 6,8; Jos 21,43; Ps 106,44; Jer 33,6)26Wenn der Himmel verschlossen ist und es nicht regnet, weil sie gegen dich gesündigt haben, und sie dann zu diesem Ort hin beten und deinen Namen bekennen und von ihrer Sünde umkehren, weil du sie gedemütigt hast, (5Mo 11,17; 1Kön 8,35; Spr 28,13; Joe 2,12)27so höre du es im Himmel und vergib die Sünde deiner Knechte und deines Volkes Israel, indem du sie den guten Weg lehrst, auf dem sie wandeln sollen; und lass es regnen auf dein Land, das du deinem Volk zum Erbe gegeben hast! (Ps 68,10; Jes 30,21; Jer 6,16; Joe 2,23; Sach 10,1; Jak 5,17)28Wenn eine Hungersnot im Land herrscht, wenn die Pest ausbricht, wenn Kornbrand, Vergilben [des Getreides], Heuschrecken und Fresser auftreten werden, wenn sein Feind es belagert in den Städten seines Landes, wenn irgendeine Plage, irgendeine Krankheit auftritt, (1Kön 8,37; Joe 1,4; Joe 2,25)29was immer dann irgendein Mensch bittet und fleht, [oder] dein ganzes Volk Israel, wenn jeder von ihnen seine Plage und seinen Schmerz erkennen wird und sie ihre Hände ausbreiten zu diesem Haus hin, (1Kön 8,38; Ps 32,5; Ps 34,19; Ps 130,1; Ps 141,2; Spr 14,10)30so höre du es vom Himmel her, deiner Wohnstätte, und vergib und gib jedem Einzelnen entsprechend allen seinen Wegen, wie du sein Herz erkennst — denn du allein erkennst das Herz der Menschenkinder —, (Ps 44,22; Ps 66,18; Joh 2,24; Offb 2,23)31damit sie dich fürchten, um in deinen Wegen zu wandeln alle Tage, solange sie leben in dem Land, das du unseren Vätern gegeben hast. (2Mo 20,20; Hi 28,28; Ps 128,1; Apg 9,31)32Aber auch wenn ein Fremdling, der nicht zu deinem Volk Israel gehört, aus einem fernen Land kommt, um deines großen Namens und deiner mächtigen Hand und deines ausgestreckten Arms willen, und er kommt und betet zu diesem Haus hin, (1Kön 8,41; Ps 86,9; Ps 138,4)33so höre du es vom Himmel her, deiner Wohnstätte, und tue alles, um was dieser Fremdling dich anruft, damit alle Völker auf Erden deinen Namen erkennen und dich fürchten, wie dein Volk Israel, und erfahren, dass dein Name ausgerufen ist über diesem Haus, das ich erbaut habe! (1Sam 17,46; Ps 22,28; Jes 11,10; Offb 11,15)34Wenn dein Volk in den Krieg zieht gegen seine Feinde, auf dem Weg, den du sie senden wirst, und sie zu dir beten, zu dieser Stadt gewandt, die du erwählt hast, und zu dem Haus, das ich deinem Namen erbaut habe, (5Mo 20,1; 1Kön 8,44; 2Chr 6,6; 2Chr 14,10; 2Chr 20,4; 2Chr 32,20; Dan 6,11)35so höre du vom Himmel her ihr Gebet und ihr Flehen und verschaffe ihnen Recht! (Ps 9,3; Jes 28,17; Jes 32,1; Jer 5,4; Jer 5,28; Dan 9,17)36Wenn sie gegen dich sündigen — denn es gibt keinen Menschen, der nicht sündigt — und du über sie zornig bist und sie vor dem Feind dahingibst, sodass ihre Bezwinger sie gefangen wegführen in ein fernes oder nahes Land, (Hi 15,14; Ps 130,3; Spr 20,9; Pred 7,20; Röm 3,19; Jak 3,2; 1Joh 1,8)37und sie nehmen es sich zu Herzen in dem Land, in das sie gefangen weggeführt wurden, und sie kehren um und flehen zu dir in dem Land ihrer Gefangenschaft und sprechen: Wir haben gesündigt und Unrecht getan und sind gottlos gewesen! (Esr 9,6; Neh 9,26; Ps 106,6; Dan 9,5; Lk 15,18)38— wenn sie so zu dir umkehren mit ihrem ganzen Herzen und mit ihrer ganzen Seele im Land ihrer Gefangenschaft, wohin man sie weggeführt hat, und sie beten, zu ihrem Land hin gewandt, das du ihren Vätern gegeben hast, und zu der Stadt hin, die du erwählt hast, und zu dem Haus hin, das ich deinem Namen gebaut habe, (5Mo 30,2; 2Chr 6,34; Dan 6,11; Dan 9,2; Joe 2,12)39so höre du vom Himmel her, deiner Wohnstätte, ihr Gebet und ihr Flehen, und verschaffe ihnen Recht, und vergib deinem Volk, was sie gegen dich gesündigt haben! (1Kön 8,50; Ps 85,1; Jer 50,33; Mi 7,18)40So lass doch nun, mein Gott, deine Augen offen sein und deine Ohren achten auf das Gebet an diesem Ort! (2Chr 6,20; Ps 65,2)41Und mache dich nun auf, HERR, o Gott, zu deiner Ruhe, du und die Lade deiner Macht! Lass deine Priester, HERR, o Gott, mit Heil bekleidet werden und deine Getreuen sich freuen über das Gute! (1Chr 28,2; 2Chr 5,7; Ps 65,5; Ps 103,5; Ps 132,8; Jes 65,18)42HERR, o Gott, weise nicht ab das Angesicht deines Gesalbten[1]! Gedenke an die Gnadenerweise, die du deinem Knecht David [verheißen hast]! (Ps 84,10; Ps 132,10; Jes 55,3; Apg 13,34)
1Then Solomon said, “The Lord has said that he would dwell in thick darkness. (2Mo 20,21; 1Kön 8,12; Hebr 12,18)2But I have built you an exalted house, a place for you to dwell in forever.” (Ps 135,21)3Then the king turned around and blessed all the assembly of Israel, while all the assembly of Israel stood.4And he said, “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who with his hand has fulfilled what he promised with his mouth to David my father, saying,5‘Since the day that I brought my people out of the land of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel in which to build a house, that my name might be there, and I chose no man as prince over my people Israel;6but I have chosen Jerusalem that my name may be there, and I have chosen David to be over my people Israel.’ (1Sam 16,11; 1Chr 28,4; 2Chr 12,13; Ps 78,68)7Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel. (2Sam 7,2; 1Chr 17,1; 1Chr 28,2)8But the Lord said to David my father, ‘Whereas it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well that it was in your heart. (2Chr 6,7)9Nevertheless, it is not you who shall build the house, but your son who shall be born to you shall build the house for my name.’10Now the Lord has fulfilled his promise that he made. For I have risen in the place of David my father and sit on the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised, and I have built the house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.11And there I have set the ark, in which is the covenant of the Lord that he made with the people of Israel.” (2Chr 5,10)
Solomon’s Prayer of Dedication
12Then Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the assembly of Israel and spread out his hands.13Solomon had made a bronze platform five cubits[1] long, five cubits wide, and three cubits high, and had set it in the court, and he stood on it. Then he knelt on his knees in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands toward heaven, (1Kön 8,54; 2Kön 11,14; 2Kön 23,3)14and said, “O Lord, God of Israel, there is no God like you, in heaven or on earth, keeping covenant and showing steadfast love to your servants who walk before you with all their heart, (2Mo 15,11; 5Mo 7,9)15who have kept with your servant David my father what you declared to him. You spoke with your mouth, and with your hand have fulfilled it this day. (1Chr 22,9)16Now therefore, O Lord, God of Israel, keep for your servant David my father what you have promised him, saying, ‘You shall not lack a man to sit before me on the throne of Israel, if only your sons pay close attention to their way, to walk in my law as you have walked before me.’ (1Kön 2,4; 2Chr 7,18; Ps 132,12)17Now therefore, O Lord, God of Israel, let your word be confirmed, which you have spoken to your servant David.18“But will God indeed dwell with man on the earth? Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain you, how much less this house that I have built! (2Chr 2,6)19Yet have regard to the prayer of your servant and to his plea, O Lord my God, listening to the cry and to the prayer that your servant prays before you,20that your eyes may be open day and night toward this house, the place where you have promised to set your name, that you may listen to the prayer that your servant offers toward this place. (2Chr 6,40)21And listen to the pleas of your servant and of your people Israel, when they pray toward this place. And listen from heaven your dwelling place, and when you hear, forgive. (Dan 9,19)22“If a man sins against his neighbor and is made to take an oath and comes and swears his oath before your altar in this house,23then hear from heaven and act and judge your servants, repaying the guilty by bringing his conduct on his own head, and vindicating the righteous by rewarding him according to his righteousness.24“If your people Israel are defeated before the enemy because they have sinned against you, and they turn again and acknowledge your name and pray and plead with you in this house,25then hear from heaven and forgive the sin of your people Israel and bring them again to the land that you gave to them and to their fathers. (2Chr 6,21)26“When heaven is shut up and there is no rain because they have sinned against you, if they pray toward this place and acknowledge your name and turn from their sin, when you afflict[2] them, (1Kön 17,1; 2Chr 7,13)27then hear in heaven and forgive the sin of your servants, your people Israel, when you teach them the good way[3] in which they should walk, and grant rain upon your land, which you have given to your people as an inheritance. (2Chr 6,21)28“If there is famine in the land, if there is pestilence or blight or mildew or locust or caterpillar, if their enemies besiege them in the land at their gates, whatever plague, whatever sickness there is, (2Chr 20,9)29whatever prayer, whatever plea is made by any man or by all your people Israel, each knowing his own affliction and his own sorrow and stretching out his hands toward this house,30then hear from heaven your dwelling place and forgive and render to each whose heart you know, according to all his ways, for you, you only, know the hearts of the children of mankind, (1Sam 16,7; 2Chr 6,21)31that they may fear you and walk in your ways all the days that they live in the land that you gave to our fathers.32“Likewise, when a foreigner, who is not of your people Israel, comes from a far country for the sake of your great name and your mighty hand and your outstretched arm, when he comes and prays toward this house,33hear from heaven your dwelling place and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to you, in order that all the peoples of the earth may know your name and fear you, as do your people Israel, and that they may know that this house that I have built is called by your name. (2Chr 7,14; Jak 2,7)34“If your people go out to battle against their enemies, by whatever way you shall send them, and they pray to you toward this city that you have chosen and the house that I have built for your name,35then hear from heaven their prayer and their plea, and maintain their cause.36“If they sin against you—for there is no one who does not sin—and you are angry with them and give them to an enemy, so that they are carried away captive to a land far or near, (Pred 7,20; Jak 3,2; 1Joh 1,8)37yet if they turn their heart in the land to which they have been carried captive, and repent and plead with you in the land of their captivity, saying, ‘We have sinned and have acted perversely and wickedly,’38if they repent with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity to which they were carried captive, and pray toward their land, which you gave to their fathers, the city that you have chosen and the house that I have built for your name,39then hear from heaven your dwelling place their prayer and their pleas, and maintain their cause and forgive your people who have sinned against you.40Now, O my God, let your eyes be open and your ears attentive to the prayer of this place. Let your priests, O Lord God, be clothed with salvation, and let your saints rejoice in your goodness.
