1Jezus zszedł ze wzgórza, a ogromne tłumy poszły za Nim.2Wtem podszedł do Niego jakiś trędowaty, pokłonił Mu się i poprosił: —Panie! Jeśli zechcesz, możesz mnie uzdrowić.3Jezus dotknął go i powiedział: —Chcę. Bądź uzdrowiony! I w jednej chwili trąd zniknął.4—Nie mów o tym nikomu!—dodał Jezus. —Idź i poproś, aby zbadał cię kapłan. A na dowód tego, że wyzdrowiałeś, zanieś ofiarę, jaką Mojżesz wyznaczył uleczonemu z trądu.
Wiara żołnierza
5Gdy Jezus przybył do Kafarnaum, podszedł do Niego rzymski dowódca oddziału z prośbą:6—Panie, mój sługa leży w domu, jest sparaliżowany i strasznie cierpi.7—Dobrze, pójdę go uzdrowić—rzekł Jezus.8—Panie—powiedział dowódca—nie jestem godny przyjmować Ciebie w moim domu. Wystarczy, że powiesz jedno słowo, a on wyzdrowieje.9Wiem to, bo sam podlegam władzy i mam pod sobą żołnierzy. Jeśli powiem któremuś: „Idź!”, on idzie, a jeśli powiem któremuś: „Przyjdź tu!”, przychodzi. I jak powiem słudze: „Wykonać!”, to wykonuje polecenie.10Słysząc taką odpowiedź, Jezus zdziwił się. Rzekł więc do tłumu: —Zapewniam was: Tak wielkiej wiary nie spotkałem u nikogo w Izraelu!11Przyjdzie czas, że wielu pogan z całego świata zasiądzie w królestwie niebieskim razem z Abrahamem, Izaakiem i Jakubem.12Natomiast ci, dla których to królestwo było przygotowane, zostaną wyrzuceni na zewnątrz—w ciemności, gdzie panuje rozpacz i lament.13Dowódcy zaś powiedział: —Idź do domu. Niech stanie się tak, jak uwierzyłeś. I właśnie o tej godzinie jego sługa odzyskał zdrowie.
Jezus uzdrawia
14Potem Jezus poszedł do domu Piotra. Gdy wszedł do środka, zauważył, że teściowa Piotra leży na łóżku i ma wysoką gorączkę.15Dotknął jej ręki i temperatura natychmiast spadła, a teściowa wstała i przygotowała im posiłek.16Wieczorem przyprowadzono do Jezusa wielu zniewolonych przez demony. Rozkazał demonom wyjść z ludzi i uzdrowił wszystkich chorych.17Tak spełniło się proroctwo Izajasza: „On wziął na Siebie nasze słabości i niósł nasze choroby”.
Cena naśladowania Jezusa
18Tłumy wokół Jezusa zaczęły rosnąć. Polecił więc uczniom przeprawić się na drugi brzeg jeziora.19Wówczas podszedł do Niego jeden z przywódców religijnych i powiedział: —Nauczycielu, pójdę z Tobą, dokądkolwiek się udasz!20—Lisy mają nory, a ptaki gniazda—odrzekł mu Jezus—lecz ja, Syn Człowieczy, nie mam własnego kąta, gdzie mógłbym odpocząć.21A któryś z uczniów powiedział: —Panie, pozwól mi tylko pójść i pochować zmarłego ojca!22—Chodź ze Mną!—odpowiedział Jezus. —Niech umarli grzebią umarłych.
Jezus ucisza burzę
23Następnie wsiadł z uczniami do łodzi i wypłynęli na jezioro.24W pewnej chwili zerwała się tak silna burza, że fale zalewały łódź. Jezus wtedy spał.25Zaczęli więc Go budzić: —Panie, ratuj nas, toniemy!26—Dlaczego się tak boicie, nieufni?!—rzekł Jezus. Wstał i rozkazał wiatrowi oraz wodzie zamilknąć. I zaległa głęboka cisza.27—Kim On jest—dziwili się wszyscy—że nawet wiatr i jezioro są Mu posłuszne?
Uzdrowienie dwóch zniewolonych przez demony
28Gdy przybyli na drugi brzeg jeziora, do krainy Gadareńczyków, wybiegło Jezusowi naprzeciw dwóch opętanych. Mieszkali w grobowcach i byli tak niebezpieczni, że nikt nie miał odwagi tamtędy chodzić.29—Czego od nas chcesz, Synu Boży?—zaczęli krzyczeć. —Czemu przyszedłeś przed czasem nas dręczyć?!30W oddali zaś pasło się wielkie stado świń.31—Jeśli już nas wypędzasz, poślij nas w te świnie—prosiły demony.32—Dobrze!—zezwolił im. —Idźcie! Opuściły więc ludzi i weszły w świnie, po czym całe stado rzuciło się pędem ze stromego zbocza wprost do jeziora i utonęło.33Pasterze stada uciekli wtedy do pobliskiego miasta i o wszystkim tam opowiedzieli—również o opętanych.34Wkrótce całe miasto wyszło Jezusowi na spotkanie. Gdy Go zobaczyli, zaczęli prosić, aby odszedł z ich okolic.

The Faith of a Centurion
5When he had entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to him, appealing to him, (Łk 7,1)6“Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly.”7And he said to him, “I will come and heal him.”8But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed. (Ps 107,20; Mt 8,16)9For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant,[3] ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”10When Jesus heard this, he marveled and said to those who followed him, “Truly, I tell you, with no one in Israel[4] have I found such faith. (Mt 9,2; Mk 6,6)11I tell you, many will come from east and west and recline at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, (Iz 59,19; Ml 1,11; Łk 13,29; Ef 3,6)12while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” (Mt 13,42; Mt 13,50; Mt 19,30; Mt 21,41; Mt 21,43; Mt 22,13; Mt 24,51; Mt 25,30; Łk 13,28)13And to the centurion Jesus said, “Go; let it be done for you as you have believed.” And the servant was healed at that very moment. (Mt 9,22; Mt 9,29; Jan 4,53)
Jesus Heals Many
14And when Jesus entered Peter’s house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever. (Mk 1,29; Łk 4,38; 1 Kor 9,5)15He touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she rose and began to serve him. (Mt 9,25)16That evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick. (Mt 4,24; Mt 8,8; Mt 8,28; Mt 8,33)17This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: “He took our illnesses and bore our diseases.” (Iz 53,4; Mt 1,22)
The Cost of Following Jesus
18Now when Jesus saw a crowd around him, he gave orders to go over to the other side. (Mt 14,22; Mk 4,35; Łk 8,22; Jan 6,15)19And a scribe came up and said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” (Łk 9,57)20And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”21Another of the disciples said to him, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.”22And Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead.” (Jan 5,25)
Jesus Calms a Storm
23And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. (Mk 4,36; Łk 8,22; Jan 6,16)24And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. (Jan 4,6)25And they went and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” (Mt 14,30)26And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. (Job 38,11; Ps 65,7; Ps 104,6; Mt 6,30; Mt 14,32; Łk 4,39; Jan 14,27)27And the men marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?” (Mk 1,27; Łk 5,9)
Jesus Heals Two Men with Demons
28And when he came to the other side, to the country of the Gadarenes,[5] two demon-possessed[6] men met him, coming out of the tombs, so fierce that no one could pass that way. (Mt 8,16; Mk 5,1; Łk 8,26; Ap 18,2)29And behold, they cried out, “What have you to do with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?” (Mt 4,3; Mt 4,6; Mt 14,33; Mk 1,23; Mk 1,26; Łk 4,34; Dz 8,7; Ap 12,12)30Now a herd of many pigs was feeding at some distance from them.31And the demons begged him, saying, “If you cast us out, send us away into the herd of pigs.”32And he said to them, “Go.” So they came out and went into the pigs, and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the waters.33The herdsmen fled, and going into the city they told everything, especially what had happened to the demon-possessed men. (Mt 8,16)34And behold, all the city came out to meet Jesus, and when they saw him, they begged him to leave their region. (1 Krl 17,18; Łk 5,8; Dz 16,39)
